Scooters are an efficient form of transportation that shine the best in city environments. But what if you need more power and take your scooter on a highway? Here are the most powerful options for you. Which one do you like the most?
BTW folks, as probably a lot of you know, the engines for the BMWs are manufactured by Kymco. I am not saying that it's bad. Kymco is an excellent and experienced company, and have been manufacturing motorcycle engines for various companies since the 60s. Just thought I'd throw that in there as trivia.
@Christiaan Overgaard Yes, you are correct. The BMW engines were designed in Germany, but some are built in different countries. The ones that I was referring to being built by Kymco are usually the "smaller" engines like the 650cc or so. This information I got from a BMW representative at a motorcycle exhibition. Thanks.
I owned a SYM 300i maxi scooter (actually around 269cc) and I loved it. Liquid cooling meant it was quiet as a mouse, CVT meant it pulled away with great torque and it could easily cruise all day on Australian freeways. I’ve always loved single-cylinder bikes, too. The problem was for me, it was just a little too big for the reason I bought it. I wanted to scoot around to the shops, work, gym and then pop it back in the garage alongside the car. It was just a bit of a unit. Broke my heart to sell it, though. 🥲
The appeal of a scooter is; they are lightweight and ideal for a short daily commute or as a delivery vehicle for food. At engine capacities below 250cc they make a lot of sense because the initial cost is low and government charges (at least in Australia) are reasonable. At engine sizes over 250 the government charges change that situation so they are not such a good option. Some of the scooters shown here are probably not what you would call large displacement engines. For example the Piaggio MP3 400 has a bigger cousin the Gilera 500 which has the same 3 wheel set up but a more industrial look. The Suzuki Burgman 650 and the BMW 600/650 are getting up into the big engines. The Aprilla 850 is definitely in that class. Consider that tourers go up to 1600 and cruisers up to 2300 although to be fair that is a single machine most are in the 1100 - 1700 range. A scooter of that size would be something to behold. How to manage the weight that such a machine would require and still keep the scooter feel and look would be a designers/engineers challenge. I own a Suzuki 650 Burgman AN Executive which is at home in the city traffic and can lane split (if that is legal in your area) with ease but is also at home and comfortable on the highways or backroads for a good day's touring. It is both comfortable and powerful enough to keep up with the big sports bikes. tourers and cruiser so that you want to spend a whole day on the seat. The CVT coupled to a 650 engine and ABS braking mean it can cope whatever a day's touring has to offer. There is plenty of built in storage in the dash as well as under the seat. An electrically adjustable windscreen keeps the wind off at high speed but allows for airflow at low speed in the city. A good bike overall.
NSW Rego is currently $132 for all bikes. Where you could get stung is the Green slip (insurance) as this depends on bike, rider history, location etc. I had a Aprilia with the 278cc Quasar engine and and thinking about upgrading to the C650 Sport. My main concern is ability to lane split as the Aprilia is quite small so really useful for getting past traffic. The Bimmer looks to but longer and wider so may hold me back a bit.
@sploofmonkey I've had big bikes an prefer scooters because of ease of use. The auto gears makes life much easier and as long as you've got 250cc or more you have enough power to stay out of trouble.
A few years ago we did a scooter tour in Tuscany for 5 days. Based in Florence, with Edelweiss tours. SO fun. We had a Piaggio MP3 wheeler 400 cc, our friend had the 500 and one guy had the Suzuki Burgman 650 and another Gilera 850. NOT your typical 49 cc scooters. Haha. Also, the tour guide had the Piaggio Beverly 300....it was really fast!! I LOVED the PIaggio 400....I guess not available in US now. But the 500 is for $9199 it seems a real bargain and I am thinking of selling my Kawasaki 1600 cc Vulcan and getting a Piaggio. I hear Yamaha has a TriCity 300 cc 3 wheeler also. Glad to see more 3 wheelers coming to market, as I am almost 60 and not getting younger. Yamaha has the cool Niken 3 wheeler, 900 cc, but $17,000 for the GT model. So many decisions!
Currently riding a Yamaha Smax. 155cc and it's dangerous between 0 and 45mpg. It is freeway legal and I do take in on the freeway quite often. I can maintain 65-70mph with ease, but for passing power; its non-existent. I average about 85mpg and I weigh 255lbs. Its the first off the line at any light on any sides street, but lacks in power on the freeway; it can keep up, but that's about it. If you commute in the city or urban, this IS the bike you want. For freeway riding, go for something stronger. Zero to 40 is fast as you want to go. I've never had a car pass me off the line. Been riding this bike in San Diego and Los Angeles. Its PERFECT for these environments. So easy to park and navigate through stopped traffic. Get there faster and stay Upright!
the Yamaha TMAX SX Sport Edition is the motorcycle like scooter in this bunch!!! love the Piaggio MP3 trike!!! for long distance touring with a pillion the SUZUKI Burgman 650 is the one for the job!!!
Back in 2013 I decided to buy a maxi scooter after decades of riding motorcycles. I bought a BMW 650 GT. Unless money is not an issue, check the maintenance schedule for what ever brand you are thinking of. For the $12K plus accessories, I could have bought one hell of a nice Japanese bike that required a 5th of the maintenance cost.
One scooter that surprised me was the 3 wheeler... I would do anything to buy 1... I have a problem holding up a bike so, this is where the 3 wheeler comes in handy... thank you for sharing your scooter video...
Hi Miguel! I'm glad you found the right product for yourself with the help of my video. You should also look into a Qooder (4 tilting wheels), it is an interesting scooter as well
Thank you for this channel! Thanks for this video also I am a scooter rider in I went to my dealership and saying I had a couple of these so I will be practicing me one this summer
Love x-adv and went to try one, very little space for taller rider, handlebars hitting knees, horrible seat etc, very disapointing in terms of seating position. High pricing but not overpriced if compared to Tmax. Tried Xmax 400 after that and what a pleasant suprise, best looking scooters ever, lot of space very comfortable for any size rider, cant explain that xadv looks bigger yet xmax feels like S class Merc in comparison. Would like to try Integra now but cant find any, not even used, my understanding from watching reviews is that these are very comfortable and very stable in twisties. I personally think they are very ugly but havent seen one in person yet so could be wrong, I hope I am. I kept drooling over xmax400 but want the honda dct and real suspension/engine set up. X-adv would have been perfect if I could modify foot rests, suggestions/advice greatly appreciated.
Thank you for helping me decide.. I'm 186cm or 6'1m, Had versys and it was perfect for me but I dont really need a bike coz my driving is 88% city, so I sold it and looking for some scooters..I dont like sitting position on integra too low for me same as burgman and honda sw..I tried to sit on 300xmax and 400.. 400cc is littlebigger but there isnt much space than 300, which is much beter mpg ,and its more responsive for city driving.. But I also looking at honda nc750x dtc
Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews I’d like to see a larger CC engine than what’s currently available in the U.S. A 750 to 800 CC would be very tempting. I bought a used 2008 Suzuki Burgman 650 from my brother about a month ago.

Thanks! My husband and I love overland touring as a passion and pick a new place annually.. My husband has a 80 series Land Cruiser with aftermarket that exceed the surprising $10,000 price tag for a 1997 vehicle lol.. No surprise considering Toyota's low depreciation due to their bulletproof reliability
I have a 650cc motor bike, and a 50cc scooter. I do love both, but wish the scooter had more power. I do think I will upgrade my scooter, as they are quicker to get ready for a ride, and are just so much fun. That Honda ADV would be my choice.
@@automotiveterritory yes. 2 and 3 wheel. Open and enclosed. I think about a ski for the front tires that go around the rubber wheel for snow driving with a rubber spiked rear wheel. Maybe cover it with a piece of treated vinyl? We need to establish electeical towers that generate positve+ energy so the batteries will not be needed anymore!
Wow I don’t know how I found your channel but I’m glad I did. I’ve been looking at scooters and thinking about buying one for a few years while waiting for the few models that I already knew about to develop further, but I didn’t know that there were so many more scooters on the market. I had always looked at BMW as being the best in this class but after watching this presentation It looks like a re-evaluation is in order because the competition is fierce. It’s also worth noting that the price tags are eye bulging as well. After living and traveling abroad (mostly Asia) for the better part of 2 decades I find scooters to very much common place in the rest of the world but not so much here in the US. Despite the hp ratings and things of that nature I find it unfair to try and compare scooters to motorcycles, they’re apples & oranges. Scooters are way more utilitarian then motorcycles could ever be and they readily lend themselves to practical everyday use. I own 3 different motorcycles but I just gotta a scooter, the trouble is which one.
Hi there, Sumporfuk! I'm truly happy to be of help. I have left the links to the manufacturers' websites in the description to the video, so that you could read up on them in more detail! Hope you find a perfect model for yourself! Scooters are indeed fun and carefree motorbikes that are often overlooked by many riders, their loss!
Aprillia, Piaggio, Honda, Suzuki,BMW, these are my creme of the crop picks... My suggestion, Maxi Scoots... 500 or above, they'll ride all day everyday, I have a Aprillia 500ie light, im 55, with physical mobility issues and a few health issues, mine will run slightly over 100 mph, is sturdy on the highway or city an has plenty of power to more than keep up, as long as you stay in the 2 far right lanes on the highway your fine, at 437 ilbs, it's just 2 much to be all the way out in the fast lane, but if you stay even with your throttle hand and stay under 70 mph, I average 72 miles per gallon consistently, i've put just over 21,000 miles in the 1 1/2 i've owned it an have logged over 33,00 miles in the 3 1/2 years as a rider on 3 other Scoots, sitting around playing good patient wasn't working for me so against Doctors advice, I decided that I needed something to just put my mind off of health issues and Dr Appts., and had no idea all that wind therapy 2 wheeled life would give to me... anyone who has an issue with Scooter riders is just ignorant, as you said the rest of the world knows how great these machines can be, my insurance with a perfect driving record is 99.00 a year and almost zero maintenance other than oil changes and seasonal antifreeze flush for the hot summer months, whatever you choose, just go Touring Maxi Scoots, not that smaller Bikes aren't fun, but you'll end up going big anyway eventually, lol!!! so save some coins an get it from jump... D~!
Hello. Thanks for the video and info. I am a newbie scooter rider and just enjoy my genuine buddy 150 around the neighborhood and around the town. The t max looks like the one I would get.
You, and, for that matter, the manufacturers ignore the most important feature that makes a scooter comparable to a motorcycle, and that is rim size. Scooters need a minimum rim size of 16 inches in order to be comparable to a motorcycle in ride and appearance. Taiwanese SYM and Kymco understand this, but Japanese makers just don't get it. Instead, the Japanese offer us (Americans) bulky jet skis on little wheels. Japanese scooters look dated after 5 years.
I'm a bit frustrated. What is the best super scooter for a shorter woman? They seem to fit the men. I don't want a foofoo bike and I don't want a motorcycle. My car is a stick, just wanted an easier ride then more clutch. Any suggestions?
I would personally go for a Yamaha Tricity 300. Not a super scooter but just the right amount of power and a super convenient Tilting three wheel design.
The best part of being a Canadian citizen is that I can definitely import me a Yamaha Tmax 500 out of Japan and you Americans can't because it's not 25 years old yet well sorry Yanks you have a very long way to go now to buy one out of Japan because I'm going to be definitely getting one out of Japan at some point in time my life long before I die so I just actually really love being Canadian
I would definitely consider a scooter over a motorcycle, as long as performance, comfort and price are addressed. I've owned 2 motorcycles and would love to get something else to commute to work and ride for fun. These are definitely some lesser expensive options.
I own a Honda Forza 300cc and it's a terrific wee scooter. However I'd like to see an updated, luxurious Honda SilverWing that would compete with the Burgman Executive. I'd be very interested in it.
Im riding a 2013 yamaha majesty 400,great scoot except that unnecessary need for 3 air-filters,and the not-so healthy fuel consumption. Thinking of changing bike in the near future but not sure to stay automatic or gear,haizzzzz....🤔🤔
In the market for a Piaggio MP3 since I only got a car license. The the idea is to commute and do some cruising on b-roards. Will have a test drive in the spring of 2020.
When it comes to motorbikes and scooters, it's very difficult to make a choice. They all are performant And are solid. Just minor differences on thier price tags
@@thagedorn I know they should have upgraded with the rest of them maybe they would still make them. but I just found one it had 926 miles on it and I bought it. all I did was put a battery on it and it started right up. now I have 3000 miles on it and love it.
@@MadsWorld34 Oh, I wasn't saying it's a bad bike, not at all, very good bike. Good find on a low miles one like that. I think it was mostly handling and ergonomics issue that led to it's discontinue. Just that it wasn't beating burgmans etc. in sales.
I just sold my 2006 Kymco 250 cuz I wanted a larger scooter...I just purchased a kymco 300...I wish I saw your video here before I purc...I'm kind of bummed that my kymco displacement is only 275. I like that 550 by kymco or I might have looked at the Suzuki 400.
Master Panda Bear Channel going from a 250 to a 275 wasn't what I wanted...I wish I new the 300 was only a 275...misleading. A 400 or 500 would have been nice. I also don't like the stiff upright seating of my 300. But I'm financing the Scooter and will keep it for the next 10 years.
Personally own a HONDA NSS (FORZA) 300. Before choosing my own super scooter, I also tried on road: Kymco AK550, Suzuki Burgman 400, SYM Maxsym 400, and SYM Cruisym 300. Also hopped on a few, but too heavy for myself: Yamaha T-max, HONDA X-ADV, Suzuki Burgman 650, BMW C650-GT. Gotta say, considering short-distance transportation convenience in the city while looking for long-distance soothing riding trips, such scooters are really the best choices. Thanks for making this clip though, as it's pretty enjoyable seeing a couple of scenes of Taiwan when introducing AK 550.
You forgot the Honda Silver Wing 600- 582cc'x capable of 100mpj + although its happy on the Highway at 70 75mph. With a Givi Trunk I've carried 5 bags of groceries and From June 01 2020 - July I've used less than $6.00 in fuel
@@automotiveterritory The range is around 100 miles at 70 mph and 185 miles at 55 mph. So around 130 miles of highway range and 200 miles of city range

You forget, Johnny, full fairings with storage are part of the price of a mega/maxi scooter. In the old days, depending on accessories, a Vetter fairing could cost 600-2000 dollars. Yamaha's company fairings, like the one for my red/gold XS750 was 500 Canadian in 1978 dollars.

I'm a female...no experience with scooters or motorcycles. But I'm in need of a new vehicle and I'm considering a scooter instead of a large car payment. I get confused on the fine line between scooter thats for city streets and scooters that are fine for freeways and when you need a motorcycle license. Can anyone elaborate.
The larger models are usually refered to as "maxi" Scooters, those can ride on par with motorcycles and feel more than comfortable of freeways. Smaller scooters, though, are usually restricted to city streets. Those have below 250cc displacement

That's a good request for a video. I will see what I can do.
Kymco ak 550. What do you think ???
It's a nice one, are you planning on getting it for yourself?
I have a 650cc motor bike, and a 50cc scooter.
I do love both, but wish the scooter had more power. I do think I will upgrade my scooter, as they are quicker to get ready for a ride, and are just so much fun.
That Honda ADV would be my choice.
Yep, That is a solid adventure bike with "scooter"convenience. What are your current models btw
nice video!
Thanks! Which of these is your favorite?
I need too know if the Honda integra is legal in the USA
Electric vehicles are the ONLY ones feasible for the future. Thank You for the video! ♥️
With this in mind, do you think there should be more electric scooters?
Sounds great. How much did you get it for?

What is the best scooter for tall and big riders? Thanks BB
What scooter is taller than kymco ak 550?
What size scooter do you recommend for 2 ppl without lot of drop off

Burgman,!
@@taurbaby what do they run, trying to stay under ,$3k
You, and, for that matter, the manufacturers ignore the most important feature that makes a scooter comparable to a motorcycle, and that is rim size. Scooters need a minimum rim size of 16 inches in order to be comparable to a motorcycle in ride and appearance. Taiwanese SYM and Kymco understand this, but Japanese makers just don't get it. Instead, the Japanese offer us (Americans) bulky jet skis on little wheels. Japanese scooters look dated after 5 years.
When is the first 1000 cc scooter coming?
That's a very interesting idea. Do you think that there is demand for a scooter like that?
@@automotiveterritory
Same demand as for enduro-bikes with 150 hp, or cruisers with 2400 cc. Someone got to do it :)
It's an idea for a limited edition series. I doubt that some manufacturer would risk to mass produce something like that.
Good video!
They look like cool motercycles.
That's true.
I think the best one is the Honda Off road scooter❗👍🏻👍🏻😎
Thanks for sharing your opinion! Make sure to check out some of my other motorcycle/scooter videos
Hope you enjoy every moment riding one!
I'm 1 hr away from Canada guess ill have to jump the border lol
I would definitely consider a scooter over a motorcycle, as long as performance, comfort and price are addressed. I've owned 2 motorcycles and would love to get something else to commute to work and ride for fun. These are definitely some lesser expensive options.
These are some of the most powerful options that are currently available. There are some less expensive models for sure.
I used my Burgman 650 as a daily commuter and a touring bike for 2 years. It is an amazing ride and recommend trying one out.
@@SurmaSampo ....Thanks for the recommendation.
I Heard that BMW c650gt has engine overheating issue is that true !??
I own a Honda Forza 300cc and it's a terrific wee scooter. However I'd like to see an updated, luxurious Honda SilverWing that would compete with the Burgman Executive. I'd be very interested in it.
Going to be awesome for sure.
the Xadv looks amazing
It does, it would be awesome to see similar models like that one, don't you think?

In the market for a Piaggio MP3 since I only got a car license. The the idea is to commute and do some cruising on b-roards. Will have a test drive in the spring of 2020.
Wish you the best of luck with your test drive. Hope it's everything you imagine it to be.
The tires very small looks like toys, pls make like big bike super scooter 😊
Can you please share a model for reference? How big should it be?
Im curious to know, how many miles on the gallon can these things get ?
Also how many gallons of gas can they hold ?
650 Suzuki Burgan Executive I get 62 miles/ us gallon
When it comes to motorbikes and scooters, it's very difficult to make a choice. They all are performant And are solid. Just minor differences on thier price tags
That's why it's important to do some test riding before making up your mind.
Burgman 650 is the best choice, I have it myself, no issue so far,
A real motorcycle is always the top choice if you're willing to go that route...
Can you tell us which one has the largest travel distance on one tank of gas on highway miles? preferably on a 400cc and higher.
I love the x-adv
It's a very nice option for those who need more power from their scooter.
what about the Honda Silver wing 600 ?
Great option as well, thanks for the suggestion
they stopped making the silverwing in 2013 i don't know why they was great bikes.

Hey Sam! Hope the 300 manages to satisfy your needs for speed:) if not, you can go up to 550 some day. Best of luck!
How's kymco?
Good👍👍👍👍 R's

What motorcycle model would you suggest as an alternative to a maxi scooter?
You forget, Johnny, full fairings with storage are part of the price of a mega/maxi scooter. In the old days, depending on accessories, a Vetter fairing could cost 600-2000 dollars. Yamaha's company fairings, like the one for my red/gold XS750 was 500 Canadian in 1978 dollars.

The larger models are usually refered to as "maxi" Scooters, those can ride on par with motorcycles and feel more than comfortable of freeways. Smaller scooters, though, are usually restricted to city streets. Those have below 250cc displacement
