I can see immediately why it failed, its not street legal. If it had been, it would have been a runaway success like the later fat wheeled semi off road Piaggio Typhoon was in Europe in the late 90's. Off road only bikes is already a niche, so this is a Honda niche of a niche. So no shit it didn't sell. This was a failure of understanding the real demographics of who would buy this. A teenager who might occasionally taste dirt with it.
I actually had one. It was awesome. It accelerated super fast, no mix gas. It was just really fun to ride. I’d fit a friend on it, drive it absolutely everywhere. Tons of good memories. Never knew anyone that had one.
@TH-camsuckskiddicks same with the cub, never changed the oil, probably after a couple years. It just took a lot of abuse. Didn’t jump it 4-5 ft in air though, ha.

My nephew races motocross. There are a couple of regulars out at his track who use EZ-Cubs as their pit bikes and everybody (even the kids who race) out there seems to love seeing these things still running about.
Same here. I had one used as pit bike, taking pictures, run errands, ect... lot of young kids got to ride their first bike on it in field behind the track. Still have it.

Honda still makes a small "motocross" semi-automatic bike. Here in the Philippines, it's called XRM. Kind of a hybrid between an XR and a Cub. They've been in production since 2005.
My Dad bought a "Cub" brand new back in early 90's and used it as a pit and pushback bike for his drag bike, we still have it and it's been sitting for over 10 years. I think this winter I need to get it going again and get it as clean and rebuilt as possible...
I remember seeing one for the first time at a Honda dealership back in the early 90's. It was quite futuristic looking and really cool. The rounded and fully covered look was extended to a lot of the equipment too such as the mowers and rototillers. The Honda stuff just looked lightyears beyond everything I had seen as a teenager. I later in life began to appreciate how well built Honda stuff is. Thanks for the nostalgia.
At 40 and riding every motorcycle i could throw my life, how did i not see one of these ever. And i love honda. Ride red was all i know as a kid. Wow thank you. Now i have to find 1 if its possible. Lol
In the UK, Scooter clubs, especially in the 50s, 60s & 70s frequently used Lambrettas and Vespas in off road competitions. Trials & Motocross especially. It was very popular amongst Scooterists.
If they put lights on it I feel like it might have sold better, that's at least one of the reasons the older CT series worked so well. You could cruise around the roads and then hit up the trails. You could go just about anywhere legally, especially if you lived outside a city. I remember that was one of the problems I faced with my '77 XL75, the previous owner had taken the lights off it, so I couldn't go on main roads without the police giving me problems. But my friends with their CT70 and ST90 could just cruise wherever as long as they didn't drive like maniacs.
Oh I never recognized that it’s missing the lights and it’s not street legal… I’m 100 pro your opinion, if this thing is street legal, I did a world tour lol

I grew up 2 lots down from our local Honda shop, and Dave the owner used to let me [as a little kid] come over, hang out, check out all of the new lineups - And put around on the Cub[s] I remember them like it was yesterday.. Then again.. I also remember them boxing up all of their 3-wheelers and sending them off to their doom.. Damn.. I wish I could put that one out of my memory for good..

I'm sorry I missed out on having one of these.
I had one, it was a HSC CUB and it was a beast! It stript my rear sprocket to a wave in less than 3 month, it took 4 liters of fuel in only 30minutes of having fun. But it was near impossible to lock as it had solid wheels. Mine was the blue white red version and I am sad I do not have it anymore😫 it was very heavy on the front but still had to be careful not to open the throttle to fast as it has more than once caused some damage to “ objects” in my way😎

Now that you went and took its clothes off and I realize it’s a small bike frame, not a scooter, I want one bad! Very bad! What a beautiful little bike. What did they sell for new? Thanks for sharing this, Mike
It is very upsetting to know that so many people watch your videos but don't actually subscribe. I went looking for Royal Enfield videos about 6 to 8 months ago and came across your video about how Royal Enfield became the best-selling motorcycle and I was hooked. You make me care about motorcycles that I had no intention of caring about just like this one. Off road or adventure scooters from Honda still exist today in the ADV 150/160, 350 and 750 model range. They are great delivery and light touring machines even at the 160cc range.
As the owner of a Honda Pacific Coast PC800 I feel very inclined to try and find one of theese scooters... They would look good together in my garage! -But at 8500$ I can control my impulses! LOL
Honda has always had unique bikes & ATV's as far as I can remember. They had that Cub and a dirt bike with ATV tires called the Fat Cat. They had the Odyssey which became the Pilot. And even now they have a cool scooter called the Ruckus. If this Cub were street legal, it would have been a cool little thing to put around on.
Japan in the 1970/80/90s was on fire. Peak Japan. They did incredible big and small toys like these. It's sad to see that they are starting to lose ground to the Chinese. Best wishes.

Hope to see you at the All British Field Meet this weekend.
This is the coolest bike ever and it's not even close.
My friend had one of these, I thought I imagined it, never seen or heard of one since. It was really punchy to ride and very futuristic
So Fun , Thank You . Looks like a lot of fun
Great video. Our Short course off road truck race team had one for the pits, and I used my Zuma so I never rode it.
Now that you went and took its clothes off and I realize it’s a small bike frame, not a scooter, I want one bad! Very bad! What a beautiful little bike.
What did they sell for new?
Thanks for sharing this,
Mike
It is very upsetting to know that so many people watch your videos but don't actually subscribe. I went looking for Royal Enfield videos about 6 to 8 months ago and came across your video about how Royal Enfield became the best-selling motorcycle and I was hooked. I love your passion for the classics and though I feel it to be a bit too romantic, I still love the way that you lay out the videos and present the information. You make me care about motorcycles that I had no intention of caring about just like this one. I have been subscribed with the bell rung for some time now and always wait to see your videos and what comes out. Always look forward to see the great content you have coming out.
That thing is sooooo cool. I want a time machine just to go back and get one fresh off the line.
Off road or adventure scooters from Honda still exist today in the ADV 150/160, 350 and 750 model range. They are great delivery and light touring machines even at the 160cc range.
Woao! It's so....retro futuristic, like from an anime. It belongs to ME!
The cub was such a futuristic looking bike
Been subscribed! Let's get him to 100k yall know he has great content.
As the owner of a Honda Pacific Coast PC800 I feel very inclined to try and find one of theese scooters... They would look good together in my garage! -But at 8500$ I can control my impulses! LOL
That bike looks like it belongs to someone on their way to pilot a Gundam...on a space colony. 😂😂😂
They were great rides 👍🏼
