I agree Mike's idea was a great one but I think Mike's crepe tower was way too ambitious for the time frame. It takes a LOT of time to make enough crepes to build a tall enough tower. Rolling them with fillings using Jamie's crumbs and nuts was the right choice in my opinion.
Especially since it did lead to Barry's sliced roll brilliant plating. :)
That plating was actually brilliant. Barry really performed spectacularly today.
I would totally expect to see that at a fancy restaurant.

God, I felt such kinship for Jamie when he said that. Ever since I was a kid I hated carrots, and was told that I should like them because they were sweet. Yeah, sure, but they're carrots.

@@redfoxdelta4051, I don't hate them but they are way low on my list of preference when it comes to veg. Really dislike them cooked unless part of an entire dish, e.g. soup, casserole, carrot cake aka don't give me that glazed carrots crap, lol.
Chef's palate vs normal palate. No average person would consider carrot sweet when cakes exist.
“Barry coming in as the MVP of a Pass it On” was definitely not on my 2020 bingo card.

Whenever I hear Ebber's intro music, I picture him entering the kitchen trailed by an assortment of birds and small woodland creatures like a Disney princess.
Now I'm picturing him in his boy scout-esque look for when they cooked in the forest 💚 so pure
I have genuinely never paid attention to or noticed the intros have music, so I had to rewind and listen for this OMG thank you that image. XD

And it WORKED.
It was the only thing he could do. Adding another element at that point would have made the dish even stranger.
He absolutely saved that dish, everyone else wasn't very cohesive imo but Baz brought it together
I love that Barry decided the dish needed some crunch and pretentiously crumbled whole digestives over it whilst completely ignoring the bowl of biscuit crumbs right next to the plate LMAO

I have come to the conclusion that Ben generally has the best mindset for this sort of challenge. For example with the cherries, he quickly realized his error in picking a stone fruit that would need to be pitted, taking too much time, and it wasn't even the main ingredient, so he quickly changed course to refocus on chocolate as he should have. He is definitely the MVP of the team. And bravo to Barry on his stupendous plating/arrangement.
Ben's time management in every single one borders on sorcery
He's also the one guy that if he's not first or last, will completely change the direction any dish was going.
@@lets.get.intoit. It's crazy how efficient he is. And he somehow always has time to teach us something as he is cooking.
Ben also also has the best mind for working out what to cook or what that should end up with. James always goes a bit too cheffy on these, whereas Ben can make something normal into a cheffy thing or pitch a cheffy thing but toned down to normal level, which I suppose he's good at because that's what this channel has always been for him
its great to watch but ts not just ben its the sign of a good chef. a good chef should be able to produce an amazing dish while explaining in detail what and why hes doing it, its how the majority of chefs are taught. james is stubborn and will do his best to make an idea work, not a bad thing but ts why you see such a disparity between the chefs.

I think when Barry’s not panicking and knows the direction of the dish, he’s a capable cook
Barry and James have great plating and think of novelty and innovation,
Jamie's a good initiator, but not so great at following up with others,
Ben's a dish-saver, but if he goes first, he might close off too many avenues and choose something without the wow factor (risotto, bread pudding, lmao)
Mike's a really good team player and doesn't flap as much as Barry or Jamie.
So with that all in mind, a good order would be
Jamie, James, Mike, Ben, Barry 🤔
Barry: "I'm just going to plate this dish as PRETENTIOUS as possible"
James & Ebbers: "It looks BEAUTIFUL 🥺🥺🥺"

In everyone's defense, it did actually look super good. I've been ranting to myself over the past few days of binging this channel about the overvaluing of artsy plating but this genuinely looked amazing.
i've been saying from the beginning of this series, put barry last that's where he excels
"there's a note in the fridge" - proceeds to ignore the note and doesn't even acknowledge a ruined pan that's in there

It’s definitely rivalling J’s look of anguish when he realised that nothing on the plate served had anything to do with him...
I love how Jamie hides things in the fridge, cause he doesn't expect others to look there, cause he never does!!
James bringing in Carrots has the same energy as Jamie making burgers in the first pass it on!!
And when anyone actually WANTS the others to check the fridge... they don't.
I think the best possible order is:
Mike - Great with ideas, can set a decent foundation for the dish
Jamie - Definitely can't go first but needs to be dealt with asap
James - Can pick up from Mike, but will do some weird cheffy stuff
Ebbers - Will mix the normal and cheffy food into a decent dish
Baz - Brilliant at plating, not so much everything else
These reasons are in fact why the best possible order for the audience is: Baz, Ebbers, Mike, Jamie, James. Baz can be overly ambitious, Ebbers can try and move it along, Mike panics, Jamie snacks, and James has no time to fix it.
I actually want to see the 'perfect' order for once. Just to set the standart and learn what they can do at their best and... go down from there.
I cant be the only one who says "Wheres the dish?" with James whenever the intro plays, like its some sort of karaoke

"let's make a crepe cake in 50 minutes" says the guy who makes about a tenth of the batter you need and tries to cook it one crepe at a time.
Which is somewhat forgivable as unless you know crepes both backward and forwards then near everyone would underestimate how much batter you need.
@@AsheramK True - but he also poured massive amounts of the batter into the crepe pan (I think I saw at least 3 ladlefuls). By the time he strained the lumps, he had used half of the batter for one awful, sticky, thick pancake.

@@SortedFood I just wanna say I sat through two 8-hour charity livestreams of Disney Christmas parades two months ago, I have sat through multiple hours of speedrun marathons, and I have sat through all six hours of Tim Roger's Tokimeki Memorial review. I would GLADLY sit through 50 minutes of a Pass It On.
They do this live!!! In last August 26, and also next December 16. We will see pass it on uncut there :)

Ben ruined the original plan though? He knew the plan was crepe cake, which would have worked and been delicious, and Ben decided to scrap it completely and not leave any real plan going forward

I’m pretty sure the opposite was the time they made paella, which they weren’t supposed to stir but Ben put it in a non-stick pan which meant they were never going to get a crispy bottom

Worst is James, but not for the reasons he thinks, just because he forgot where he was in line. Spot 4 needs to be solidifying the dish, not going off into wild new directions. The carrots didn't work, but he did make improvements.
Next is ... Jamie? Aside from his crumbs which ended up on top out of luck, his crepes got tossed (even if he deserves his points for good flipping)
Mike, for good intents but too simple, and no chocolate
Ebbers, because Ebbers rules, and he REMEMBERED THE CHOCOLATE (and flavors and textures and realizing cherries were a bad idea, there is no dish unless he rolls those crepes - he's in second because he should've melted the chocolate himself).
And (much as I hate to admit it) Barry, because that wasn't a dish until he made it a dish.

1. Barry - Presentation was spectacular. Took a turd and turned it into gold.
2. Ben - Took a poorly executed idea and gave it a better direction.
3. Mike - Great idea from the beginning and did a solid job of getting things started.
4. Jamie - I'm convinced he did the best he could with what he had, but it just wasn't in his repertoire to execute properly.
5. James - I really don't know what to say. There was clear direction and elements that needed finishing, but instead he chose the throw in a bunch of ingredients that didn't belong and left a mess for Barry to plate.

I love to see how you all bring your own ideas to the plate, then have the next cook blatantly disregard those ideas. However - you come up with new exciting and weird creations. That's the beauty of cooking! ;) Thanks.

Ben absolutely carried this episode. The dish had no inspiration until Ben came in with his confident and determination and did every possible right thing he could do. The difference between the normals and Ben was astonishing, and he only gave himself a 7/10?
