I like the order they woke up. As Barry and Jamie with kids would probably go fairly early.
Maybe the amount of time they get is how early they are for work? So if they're half an hour early, they get half an hour. If they waltz in at 8.59, they get a minute

You should make one where the 2 chefs get a different theme than the Normals (but they don’t know), I’m ready for the confusion levels to be at maximum
or maybe one chef is told one theme, the other is told another, snd the normals are told nothing

The ingredients are all wild/natural ingredients and game meats and they are only allowed to use tools they could use on a camping trip, like a alcohol burner stove.
Order being from most recent to least recent camping trip.
*They really go camping and play Pass it on!!!
I'd love to see a longer episode of Pass it On at some point. Something like...100 or 150 minutes instead of 50, but the theme is something really big or complex, like...Three Course Meal. Or Holiday Feast. Then each person goes 2-3 different times for ten minutes at a time, so they can see how theirs (and others!) ideas have been destroyed in real time. Ideally in a truly random order: Put all 5 boys names in a hat 2-3 times each, then draw for the next person! I thought that was really fun the once and mixing it up by making it longer could be really chaotic. One person could be at the beginning or the end, or one person might go three times in a row!
That sounds fun, but I'd like to like to see it in a longer video, or a two parter. Something special, rather than just another episode.
I totally see it as a holiday feast, which makes perfect sense to do a longer episode then. I would hate to wait until November or December for that, but you do what you have to do. (Hopefully early November so they can do other holiday themed things closer to the actual time frame)

I feel so sorry for him, he gets so insecure and believes he'll do badly that he actually make himself fail. So this was really painful to watch in that aspect.

TBH, I thought Jamie was a little deflated today... not a good day for him. I felt he needs a good hug. I don’t think that he is getting worse in the kitchen... but... do feel his confidence needs a boost!

He was very good in the breakfast one and the other still blamed him, he was okay in most of the rest. The others always blaming him has destroyed him.
I like that at 5:51 in the video, the timer behind Jamie says 5:51 too. A very pointless thing to notice but satisfying.

As an idea for the order, they should go in reverse order of all time brownie points in chef and normals battle. That way they should *theoretically* get progressively better as the challenge goes on haha

Well I mean the issue is Jamie is a decent if not great cook from an average perspective but he is not not creative when it comes to food and thus he either makes something that just doesn't match everyone else's ideas or starts with something that forces a path from everyone else

I get the feeling he likes this Jamie persona he's created andnow he's playing up to it, shouting fuck fuck fuck instead of getting on and doing something. He's turned into the kind of Jamie he wants to be, because he'll never be the kind of team member the others would like him to be.

Jamie is my absolute favourite sorted member. He’s the funniest and wittiest by a mile, and so adorable. I love all of them, but Jamie has a special place in my heart.

@@dpchiko17 To be fair, Barry made a pretty solid start. James kinda sunk the boat when he started pissing about with a grapefuit (and flushed the brief when he chucked out all the peel) instead of getting on with the crumble, which would have made perfect sense with Barry's semi-trifle. That way they'd have had something even Jamie couldn't fuck up.
Jaimie kinda was always the weakest of them (in this format) he just had less spectacular failures than Barry, at least until recently.
Pass it on idea: Introduce a saboteur; one of you must sabotage the recipe (i.e. salt instead of sugar). If the saboteur is caught at the end, they have to eat the ENTIRE dish they deliberately tried to ruin. If they’re not caught, they get 5 brownie points!

I miss the old leveling up section of your series. You should find a way to do that in a pass it on. The first person makes a really simple dish and then each person has to level it up more, but at the end it should be one cohesive dish.
A pass it on idea:
They have to redo a failed pass it on, but no one knows which recipe.

Talking about drinks, what about a mixologist pass-it-on? Bartender... must make 1 cocktail or more, and some kind of pub food/pub snack to go with it? (It'd be a chance for the guys to make the potato skins they make during chef battles, alongside some really weird drinks.)

For once Jamie's mistake was totally understandable. Thinking the crumble mix was pastry is an easy thing to do.

But with an obvious crumble base in the oven? He was over thinking it!
The nut mix was right next to it. All he had to do was add them together and he'd have realised that it was a crumble.
I just wanted to hug him. He seemed so genuinely distressed about being shouted at and I get that.

We have been lobbying for them to reverse the order after 5 minutes of them deciding for a while, but we gained huge traction on the last video and it appears it worked! Well done everyone involved and thanks Sorted!

My friends and I tried doing this challenge, in 2 teams as a competition. I was the plater.. I accidentally drained my teams soup and put the meat and veg from the soup on top of pasta 😅😅😅 Jamie I feel your pain!!

Nah. I think it's a waste of time trying to make use of pits and peels. The anti-foodwaste movement is more about preventing perfectly normal food from getting tossed. So finding a use for mushy bananas and left-overs is more important than creatively using pits.
Couldn't agree more. Also, there was no need to try and use the full bag of sugar in 1 crumble. Putting the remainder back in the cupboard is not 'waste'.
I do use the peels of fruit. I candy them and cook cupcakes. For vegetables, I use them instead of the edible parts when making soup stock. I compost them after steeping, I don't eat the vegetable peels, just steep them. I also use the water from boiling veggies to cook my rice. I mean that's what a soup stock is. Boiled veggie water. I get as much value as I can before tossing it.
I don't cook with my used coffee grounds. I spread them on my garden. I don't try to use the pits of fruit, I just compost that bit. I'm a poor university student. Eating healthy for as cheaply as possible is a main goal. It does mean that my cooking takes longer. I mean, I spend 40 minutes making the water I cook my rice in. My food does taste amazing though, and I spend less than $5 a day on food.
Agreed. They don't seem to know the difference between ugly, spent, inedible, and waste. Apparently, there is some way to eek out flavor from cherry pits, but that seems more like a hack for when you've already used all the flesh. The pits are still going in the bin. Just make it a compost bin and have dietary peace.
Pips and stalks and stones aren't food waste because they're not food. No one eats those.
100% true. They really didn't talk about foodwaste here. Their more recent video, the grocery bag challenge, tackled the topic of food waste far better.

I am in the middle of an existential crisis/mental breakdown writing my dissertation, the jolly music when Jamie comes on (and you inevitably know he will mess up), is what is keeping me going.
I would like to see a twist next time that when someone finishes their turn cooking, they dont put the headphones back on and can hear what the current cook is doing and record thair reactions.

What would you do with grapefruit rinds besides compost them? It's still biodegradable. It's not plastic. Zero waste food is about reappropriation. So what would you do with grapefruit rinds?
@@icedtea649 Cut peel from grapefruits into ⅜” strips leaving ¼” white pith attached. Place in a small saucepan; add cold water to cover. Bring to a boil, then drain; repeat twice.
Bring peel, 1 cup sugar, and ½ cup water to a boil in same saucepan; reduce heat and simmer until peel is translucent, 15-20 minutes. Drain; transfer peel to a wire rack and let dry, 2-4 hours. Toss in more sugar. from bonappetit.com

To be fair, Barry didn't set him up well for that because candied citrus peel isn't very good if the zest has already been taken off. So even if he had gone on to candy the peel, the boys might have rated it as a "fail" at the end because of the taste.
yeah he admitted it was an error, I guess the time limit made him forget about the challenge and after his time was over he remembered it
Do a relay race on pretentious ingredients. Each person must choose two pretentious ingredients that must make it into the finale dish. They have to choose the ingredients without looking to make it even more interesting

@@ozymandias3456 I like the idea of 2 pretentious ingredients each, but I don't think they should blindly choose them. And once it's been chosen, it gets taken off the table (so 10 different pretentious ingredients all make it into the meal/dish).
OMG. I have laughed for five minutes at Spaff's dad joke and can't quit. That was definitely one of the best I've heard in my binge of watching all of you guys' videos.
Having watched all of these (twice, in four days. Don't judge me), this might be my favourite one. Just for the reaction when the order is revealed. :D Barry's rage is hilarious and I think Jamie is laughing so hard because he appreciates the viewers playing a practical joke on the five of them.
Theme for next time: Use what has been left for you: You are not allowed to use the ingredients you picked ourself, just the one coming laters are allowed to use them. Mike goes first and last, first he picks 5 ingredients and then leaves and comes back to cook as the last person (he has good ideas sometimes). Chefs are allowed to pick 1 ingredient normals 5 to add for the next cook at the end of their turn, let them think about the order themself. Salt and Pepper do not count towards the ingredients. Chefs are not allowed to come after each other.
It is a more complicated suggestion but probably a fun one.
Can Jamie Please go last or first or something?, he's a good cook, but the middle is never the right place for him.

Ben’s little tips and tricks at the end about the cherry pits and coffee grounds were really interesting. You should make a whole video of ideas like that.
I come back from holiday, nearly recovered from sun-stroke, and I am greeted with this: a zero-waste video in which the first thing anybody does is cut the good bits out of a bunch of lovely-looking strawberries.
We visited the Tiptreee factory last year and went on a tractor-tour around the facility (it's huge ;-) and one of the things they wanted to make most clear is that you should always eat *all* of a strawberry, including the green bit (not the stalk necessarily although you can), because that part of the fruit contains much of the goodness…so we've done that since and actually they even taste better for it!

It's OK Jamie! Knowing when to hold back is also a good thing. I like his either careful approach unknown items /leaving them be or making something he is more familiar with as an addition.

I thought he did well regarding what he had to work with.
Agreed, I was legit impressed with him running in there and suddenly stepping it up with some really cool waste-reducing ideas. Kinda felt like Dad coming home after the kids made a huge mess and helping them clean it up before Mom sees it.
I reckon he's hardest on himself because he's most skilled. And perhaps partly, he's the most skilled because he's hard on himself but he's also the oldest I think - at least he's a fair bit older than James, and the others aren't meant to be chefs.

After watching reruns of Pass It On, I feel they should do a 2nd take on Food Waste.
I have a compost bin in my backyard. When ever I cook all of my scraps go into the compost. obviously I don't put oil dairy or meat in it, but it really helps with my food waste.
The council's compost here in Wales. It's reassuring to know that it's going to become compost and not just landfill
I was looking for this comment. In my opinion there is a difference between waste and compost. 👍🏻
Industrial composting should really be implemented everywhere! Then you can compost everything, dirty paper towels, meat gristle and bones, dairy, etc. We have it in Seattle, and between the awesome composting and recycling programs, we almost never fill up a trash bin!

Ben has a lot of fringe knowledge on food. You can tell he's passionate about conservation. He once said a rind of some kind was good for keeping slugs out of your garden.
