An idea for a badge battle could be the “teaching badge” where they have to walk a completely new “normal” through the cooking of a dish.

I know!!! I loved that, no wonder i always find cocoa hard to mix with liquid, there are always little pockets of cocoa lumps!
@@asiyah7714 I've found the best way is to sift it first so there are no big lumps and mix it to a paste with a little liquid first. Then you can add more, gradually, whisking as you go and it will incorporate nicely. Even better if the liquid has some fat in it (such as cream or whole milk) as the cocoa is fat soluble.

I was just waiting for someone to step in because I was horrified!! Parchment... something... but cling film!? It still doesn't seem right.
As a chemistry major I enjoyed the fun fact about cocoa powder the most. Pretty sure I missed some important ganache info while spending a good few seconds being fascinated by a spoon being dipped into a glass of water. Oh this explains so much about making hot chocolate!
That is why I always put a little of the liquid into the powder first, stir it until pasty and then slowly add the rest of the liquid. Like that you can get a smooth drink even with cold milk
@@ConniJo I do the same! It just makes for such an easier time incorporating the chocolate.
@@ConniJo I actually like having some little unincorporated bits of hot chocolate mix floating on top...they're like extra bursts of flavor. LOL
@@ConniJo I do thus myself as well. It makes it soooo much easier to stir, and you can use the same method for other powder based drink mixes.
@@ConniJo adds a whole set of new reasons to make hot chocolate bombs Ben's way - with the powder already pre-mixed to a paste - with liqueur, of course! (Or just miss out the tempering chocolate bit and just mix your hot chocolate powder with liqueur directly in the cup...?)

I just came from the shops. There were absolutely no cute guys dressed as Woody. I feel cheated.
Funnily enough, it's not that unusual. I work in a supermarket and we regularly get people that are dressed up. The two most frequent ones are Batman and a Guerilla - they come in every few weeks 😂

Can we have the following:
- All 3 normals working together at once vs 1 chef.
- The solo chef gets an extra 15 minutes.
- 4 course meal
- One mandatory dish decided by the judging chef that both teams have to create, but all 3 individuals have to have helped create.
3 normals having to cook together? I can just imagine the chaos that will ensue 😅
I'm actually surprised seeing Mike not lifting up the dough before pressing it into the pan. I just- I thought he's done it hundreds of times before 🤦🏻♀️

Not sure how to classify, but a menu or a memorization badge can be entertaining. Give them a dish recipe that they've never made before, a night to practice with, and see how well they can replicate it in a challenge without the recipe.

Idea for a battle: revisit a challenge but switch between the contesters recipes. As in, if the battle is between Mike and Barry then Mike would have to make whatever Barry made during the last battle and vice versa (with their own changes and twists of course)

I do not own baking beans and I like to bake pie and I've always just used rice. But I usually get a soggy bottom on my crust and I haven't been able to figure out why. Now I know IT TAKES LONGER THAT WAY???? Thank you Mike, for troubleshooting my baking!

I'm glad the badges aren't dependent upon the win. Mike does best when they're not trying to one up each other. He remained focused on the task at hand, and it showed in the end result. Kudos to Michael for the win! 🌟🍫🏅
I have a small problem in witch they came with several improvements and problems with Mike’s but none with Barry but mike won so Barry had no chance unless mike failed
imposter ('impasta') recipe relay where all the guys are given a meal on a card such as spag bol, but one of them is instead given a similar recipe such as lasagne to cause confusion

As someone who will literally make a batch of yorkshire puddings to eat with insane amounts of gravy, learning that water in the batter makes for a crispier and lighter pudding is something I'm very happy about. Also that cocoa powder is hydrophobic is a new one for me
I would love to see the normals get different recipes that they have to adapt to someone with an allergy(or multiple). Since I'm studying to become a baker this is something that has come to a new light for me and a real chef knows how to adapt the cooking for allergies.
Seeing a grown Mango to the shop as a cowboy makes me giggle. c:

Idea: Costumed Budget Meals Battle? Make the Normals or the Chefs have to pick a random costume (or one chosen by Patrons) and they have to shop, cook, and present a dish for uhhhh...I'll let them decide the price?
Edit: Oh...and they have to wear the costume for the entire battle. Shopping AND Cooking.

A pie crust par bake tip from babish is to use sugar to weigh down the crust then when it's done you have toasted sugar. Use to give a slightly more complex flavor to desserts

I was not expecting to experience abject terror from a sorted vid, but seeing mike BAKE PLASTIC WRAP really transported me to somewhere like the Upside Down. (Even if it's heat proof, I have to imagine there's some potential chemical leaching/weird flavor/moisture issues.)

I would love to see some kind of "tool" badge, where the normal's have to identify weird chef tools from Ben's collection and explain how they are used. Super bonus points if he has a fish knife and somebody mentions that that is how you identify an OLD silver set vs a more modern one. Fish knives didn't exist before the Late Victorian period.
