Legendary Engineer and producer Sylvia Massy is back at the Microphone Museum for Episode 4 of Studio Go Boom! This time out Massy and shows us several totally tubular shotgun microphones spanning nearly a century of recording. Then the Mad Professor of Sonics gets literal and creates shotgun mic with- you guessed it- an actual shotgun and a small shotgun shell shaped mic pointed directly at Starcrawler’s Henri Cash as he jams on his guitar through an EarthQuaker Devices Park Fuzz and the EQD/Death By Audio collaboration Time Shadows pedals.
(Don’t try this at home kids. Seriously. PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS!)

A+ puns. Love seeing the old school shotgun mics too! The tuned interference tube is a clever idea. I wonder if they ran into phase issues with so many tubes of differing length though.

This was a nice piece on letting people know about old mics you see on old films.. Gene Hackman one.. forgot name, and Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. But still were we listening to just shotgun mic from distance and not mic on ZT amp? Both? Maybe someone should be making "Impulse Responses" files for some of this stuff! 😝

What was the point in setting up two mics (the shotgun + the more widely recognized cab mic) should you not be showing us comparison?
On the whole a pretty nothing piece needlessly drawn out with 'acting' histrionics..
Not trying to be unkind.. but you need to make things of genuine interest surely.
Have enjoyed other content before (your Variac starved amps for example... But there we could hear the results.. and it's the 'results what count lady.. 😉')

I didnt know about the lav mic down a pipe trick and i dont own a shotgun mic either so it was a good video for me. I will be trying this out tomorrow.
