  • Why is it that we never look for first hand accounts that tell us about those that were the closest to the Prophet Joseph Smith. There's a lot of speculation around the translation of the book of mormon... Did Joseph Smith use a Hat and a Stone? Who said that's how the Book of Mormon Was translated? What did Lucy Mack Smith say, Or even the eldest son, Joseph Smith the 3rd. We take for granted the recorded history that we have access to, so lets find out once and for all. How did Joseph Translate the Book of Mormon???
Our team has researched extensively and uncovered compelling evidence that supports this claim. But don't just take our word for it, visit our website at bookofmormonev... for even more proof!
Join us as we uncover how Joseph Smith knew, as he described through his divine role as prophet and translator of the Book of Mormon. The only time I had anything near a faith crisis, was from studying about Moors College at Dartmouth, but I looked at the fruits and remembered what Elder Bednar told me concerning the calling and preparation of prophets. Then Joseph’s character came with more clarity than ever before and I knew that Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and Jesus all likely underwent a process of preparation that people in their ages would also question. Minds, and hearts were prepared, then refined and used the whole way through the process. President Nelson said we must become the principal of revelation, and too many these days rely wholly upon social acceptance rather than truth. Thank you for your research and dedication in this!

you're kidding, right? He told people an angel with a flaming sword commanded him to sleep with adolescents and married women? He was a con artist and treasure digger. He made a racist book. There's a quote saying he's more important than Jesus. Other quotes are that people lived on the moon.
Please go back to Dartmouth sometime, what an amazing school, and I will bet there's not a historian, archeologist, geologist, or Egyptologist who takes the BoM for anything but make believe.

@@lukegraven7839 nope. Show me where it says that. Where does it say he was commanded to “sleep” with these people? The Book of Mormon doesn’t speak of race, rather it uses the same symbolism of covenants as the Bible’s and ancient texts, but this is a modern ignorant take with a modern lens which stems out of Darwinism which is definitively rooted in racist ideology. There is no quote of anyone ever saying he did more than Jesus Christ, but there is a quote saying he did more than any man except for Jesus Christ. He was a very fertile man yet never had any children and there has never been any evidence of him having children with anyone other than his wife Emma. He was sealed to other women, who had no man who could care for their needs. Most of those who criticized Joseph were themselves guilty of everything they accused Joseph of. I have studied the criticisms against the church and Joseph my whole life and I still hear it everyday, the fact is you are wrong even in your accusations which just shows your ignorance in general. But you have more faith in Joseph Smith than any Latter-Day Saint, and far more has continued to surface which support the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith, no person today with any amount of highly educated teams could produce something as efficient as the Book of Mormon. If he was a con man, he was the most genius con man who never benefited from it, who died for it and has had more good come from this church than any other organization to date and no man has disproven anything, as those “proofs” against him have not held up over time. I dare you to do better.

I’ve enjoyed watching this series on “Joseph Knew”. I’ve got a second printing of L. E. Hills book that has that Meso map in it that Jonathan was talking about, the book had belonged to my ancestors. I’m really glad that Jonathan exposed the false teachings that are in that book. And also that Joseph Smith III never believed the stone in the hat theory, he believed that the Book of Mormon was translated by the Gift and power of the Holy Ghost by using the Urim and Thummin, and also the book of Mormon didn’t take place in Meso America. At the restoration bookstore here in Independence, we have a book that you can buy called the letters of Oliver Cowdery. In the forward for that book, Joseph Smith, Jr says that Oliver Cowdery was well qualified to write these letters. Why is that? Because Joseph Smith Jr assisted him in writing them. Joseph Smith III had the letters reprinted and put them in book form so all the RLDS saints would know exactly where the Book of Mormon land was and who were the descendants of Lehi on this land, the Native American Indians or western tribes that they were referring to in the 1830’s.

Jonathan and Rod, Have either of you written to or asked to meet with the First Presidency or Q12 regarding these issues? What are we going to get as a result of the newly commissioned "history" on the Prophet JS? Are we going to get another"Saints"? The current narrative of Church History that we have, dimnished JS as a prophet for many, including myself. Since listening to you both, my testimony of JS has not only been restored but strengthened. The MesoAmerica and STITH theories are responsible for the loss of many testimonies

I've enjoyed learning from Rod and Jonathan and Wayne and so many others over the years about Church History and Book of Mormon Geography. So much of this feels right and true to me. It provides clarity and insight. I've also noticed that in the Christian world channels like Is Genesis History? contain a lot of truth and help me better understand how the bible fits into the history of the world. Recently I ran across a playlist from the Answers in Genesis TH-cam channel called Lost History of North America. It is an attempt by Dr Nathaneal Jeansen to connect traditional Native American histories to Y-chromosome DNA patterns in order to visualize the migration events that shaped pre-Columbian America. It reminds me of how Rod started into the heartland model researching mitochondrial DNA. I think a lot of what he presents dovetails nicely with the Hopewell/Nephite story, and it would be fascinating to connect the earlier Hopewell culture to his work and Native American histories to get a fuller picture of activities on the promised land at least from the time of the Nephites to the present.

Because of the quality of the books (smyth sewn binding, gold embossing & gilding, full-color processing, etc), they take longer than normal to print, but the next printing, which has neen updated with several additional pages and insights, is scheduled to arrive mid April. Jonathan Neville wasn’t entirely accurate about L.E. Hills’ book and theory. Hills’ first map was created in 1917, but it was eventually rejected not by Joseph Smith III, who died in 1914, but by his son Dr. Frederick M. Smith, who had become the third President of the RLDS Church (Joseph Smith the Prophet is considered the first president of the RLDS Church). Dr. Smith had a PhD in Psychology, thus his title. He was a grandson of Joseph Smith, the Prophet. His second cousin, President Joseph Fielding Smith, a grandson of Hyrum Smith, also rejected the Two Cumorah geograohy theory restricted to Central America.

That is a complex question which would take longer than space and time would permit here, but here are some short, incomplete answers to your question without the needed additional explanations.
What constitutes a 'Sea?' Hebrew doesn't differentiate between oceans, lakes or even large rivers in some cases. The word for the Mediterranean Sea, the Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee in Hebrew is the same word as to the body of water, yet one is a salt water ocean, another a salt lake, and yet another is a fresh water lake. The Nile river has also been called a sea, for example.
There were at least 10 lakes formed or drained in the Heartland of America during the 1811-1812 sequence of earthquakes along the New Madrid fault system. They resulted in many areas subsiding by over 10 feet which caused water to rush into the depressions and forming massive lakes in a few hours, such as Reelfoot lake. Every observation made by the prophet Nephi at the time of Christ's death - 28 in all (see 3 Nephi 8-9) - were observed and experienced by those in the New Madrid region of America's Heartland during this sequence of over 2,000 earthquakes. Rod has a comprehensive 2 hour presentation on it in his 6 DVD series.
The city of Moroni could have been in any one of those depressions and thus 'sunk into a sea' as it were.
The Sea West in our model is Lake Michigan and Rod and others have addressed how the Great Lakes surface levels were higher anciently causing the upper Great Lakes to drain into the Ottawa River basin and out the St Laurence seaway into the Atlantic Ocean near Montreal, Canada today. From there we show that he could have voyaged almost anywhere, across to Europe and later through the Artic ocean to the Pacific, or they could have followed the routes of the 49ers who sailed around South America and then west to Polynesia. It's a deep dive to go through all of that, but that's the basics.

@@sreed6220 oh, I agree that Joseph made it clear it was a literal translation, but the specifics on the method are vague. U & T are stones and many of the witnesses to the process say he put the stone/stones in his hat and Translated. Add D&C 7 to the mix and it is obvious that he didn't need to look at the plates to "translate" them. Now even 99 year old Russle M Nelson is looking into hats on video explaining that is the way it was done.

@@franklinanderson9687 Why are you relying on witnesses? There were no witnesses to the translation except for Oliver Cowdery. The Angel Moroni told Joseph Smith not to show the plates and the Urim and Thummim to anyone, unless commanded or he would be destroyed. That's basic Church History in the Pearl of Great Price. Oliver Cowdery was allowed the attempt to translate as noted in D&C 8 & 9 but failed because he didn't work it out in his mind before asking the Lord if it be correct. Thus the famous account on how to receive personal revelation. The headings to those sections states the translation was a revelatory process, not reading from a rock which would be a dictation. Pres. Nelson - in the video - stated that "there were some suggestions on how it was done," not that it was how it was done. Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery were accused of using a rock in a hat while they were living, and rejected it. Thus the footnote in JSH Ch 1 by Oliver Cowdery.
