The only religion I know of that believes that are Jehovah Witnesses. As far as I know, all other biblical and Christian religions don’t see allegiance and worship as synonymous. Christ himself paid taxes to Rome, it is not contradictory to ally yourself with a body as long as it does not go against gospel principles.
I’m not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but I am on the square and I would like to say “thank you”. This is one of the most respectful videos that covers Freemasonry I’ve found on TH-cam. Absolutely wonderful to watch.
@koltoncrane3099 0 seconds ago I was on Reddit and commented on the free mason page. I was banned a day later for asking an honest question. I’ve listened to videos about free masonry and some of their ideas. The free masons have leaked a few books back in the 1800s at least for lower levels. It’s like the idea of free masons promoting the betterment of mankind is great! But then I remember listening to how president fdr was a free mason and banned gold ownership. The free mason fdr also put tons of occult symbols or maybe talismans on the fiat dollar. Some will say oh they’re just images, but some videos ties some images to occult or older society’s in the past. It’s like fdr if he wanted to help people he could have banned the federal reserve. The federal reserve act states the federal reserve is privately owned and pays a 6% dividend. If fdr banned a private central bank he would have limited new credit expansions which leads to bigger busts. But he promoted banks and stopped workers from saving the fruit of their labor in precious metals. Using sound money makes it harder for the government and banks to commit theft or steal purchasing power or inflation by expanding the money supply. Fractional reserve banking happened in the 1800s but they were more cautious or seemed to be cause there was no bailouts. In 2008 banks literally owned the federal reserve which they knew would bail them out. Privatize gains and socialize losses. And taxes then goes to pay government debt that the private central bank owns and then collects dividends from. I was banned from Reddit Freemasons for asking why a free mason president acted like he didn’t care about mankind. Some say well he fought communism or had to print money to stop communism from coming to the U.S. That’s all a lie. It was money printing in the 1920s that caused the boom which led to the bust. It always happens. Read US monetary history by Murray Rothbard.
If you know free masons do they think fdr acted as a free mason when he totally changed the entire monetary system in the U.S. effectively ending gold contracts etc and how people saved the fruits of their labor? Or was fdr acting purely out of political and economical stress and pressures and trying to stave off communism? It blows my mind. The dollar went from 20 to 35 an ounce being devalued. But zero consideration it seemed went into the idea of credit expansion from fractional reserve banking then leading to contractions which maybe viewed as recessions in the business cycle. Christians by being silent seem to promote or condone theft as long as it’s institutional theft done by money printing. Eccles a famous Utahn helped promote Keynesian economics or something in the Great Depression. I will say it’s shocking I found Muslims actually are still against usury or some websites said Muslims should avoid interest or donate all interest to the church or charity.
This was so helpful to me, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving a Mission at Church Headquarters. I was born in England and had a father who was a 33rd Degree Mason. My father knew nothing of the church. I was converted in California 35 years ago. As it was considered a secret organization. he never spoke about it. All I remember is that his Lodge of Instruction meetings were Monday nights. I remember seeing his regalia and his white robe with the red cross on it , his red velvet cap and his sword, I thing that was Knights of Malta. It was not until he died suddenly at 45 years of age and his funeral was attended by over 350 men and women I had never seen before that I realized what it actually must have meant to him. I would so love a tour of this building and to learn more whilst I am here in Salt Lake City. Thank you again for this amazing presentation.

As someone who is always curious about different belief systems and traditions, this video was incredibly enlightening for me. It was fascinating to see the parallels between Freemasonry and Latter-day Saint Temple ordinances and how they both emphasize principles of morality and spirituality. Learning about the rich history and symbolism within the Salt Lake Masonic Temple was truly eye-opening. I appreciate the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of these interconnected traditions and how they contribute to the spiritual growth and enlightenment of their members. Thank you for sharing this insightful exploration, it has provided me with a new perspective and appreciation for the diversity of spiritual practices in the world.
My Dad was a Mason and always wore the ring.. HE WAS a Methodist and we were LDS.. He was the most compassionate man I ever knew in my life.. He joined the LDS church in 1996.. One story my Mom always told was back in the day when my oldest brother was a baby .. They were driving on vacation and broke down on side of the road .. my dad got out and walked about a 1/2 mile or so and after about an hour came back with help My mom questioned him and he told her he had used a hand gesture that stopped another Mason brother and he came to his side.. I’ll never forget that story ..
My friend had a similar story. He and his dad broke down in Alabama in the 1960s They were black. His dad stepped beside the car and did a sign and multiple cars stopped to help that were white and the car was fixed at no cost and they were safe and were able to continue their drive to Florida.

Nice video. I am an LDS Freemason in Utah, and I have been in that building many times, but it still amazes and delights me to see or hear about some detail that had escaped me in the past. I too feel like Masonry has enhanced my church worship, and edified me as a person trying to be more like Jesus Christ. I'm grateful for many of the wonderful non-LDS Masons in our state, some of whom have become some of my best friends. It's truly a wonderful organization with amazing history (both connected to the early LDS Church and in Europe), and impressive and sacred rituals and secrets which are calculated to bring out the best in a man in THIS life--without making any theological statements about salvation or exaltation in the NEXT life, the way my religion and LDS temple worship does.

Thank you so much! This film was so helpful to me and my testimony as a latter-day Saint woman. I have often wondered and worried about the temple ceremony being the same as the Mason ceremony. This was a very interesting video to watch! I was a latter-day saint from 2019-late 2022 And my biggest catalyst for leaving was actually the temple endowment and Joseph Smith being a mason. Although I still have some of the same thoughts, if not all of them that I did then, this was a very helpful video to understand the differences between the faith and the fraternity
One thing that might be helpful to remember is that just because we don't have all the answers, doesn't mean we should throw away the things we have received answers to. If you have a bowl of various fruits that you like and don't like, are you going to throw away the whole bowl? No, you're probably going to keep the fruit that you do like and enjoy those. Same concept. God wants you back. We want you back. You are part of us and I don't have to know you to say that to you and to know it is true. Please think it over. :)
Their is an enormous need for people to seek discernment. The Latter Day Saint church is the restored Church of Jesus Christ but all members should seek a spirit of discernment through the Holy Ghost.
One thing to think about, also, is that the Book of Mormon is filled with symbolism that is also represented in the Endowment. He could have learned much about the Endowment's contents before he was even involved in Masonry to begin with.
As an LDS, and a Freemason, i enjoyed seeing the various rooms of the Grand Lodge of Utah. I reside in another state. I appreciate the format of the video, and it was great to have a former LDS bishop who is also a Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason serve as tour guide. Well done.

@Roman-e7b , Interesting comment. King Solomon's Kingdom fell through his son Rehoboam, rather than God actually punishing Solomon himself and King James Kingdom also fell through his son, King Charles l when Oliver Cromwell took off his head. In The Bible, it states that whosoever will change the words will suffer the plagues within The Book. However, in the fronts piece of some King James Bibles it warns that 'Popish persons' went about changing passages. One example I found is that in The King James Bible it just says Ishmael was a wild man but later translations are saying he's a 'wild donkey ' of a man. So where does 'donkey' come from?

Master Masons can become Shriners. Shriner's Hospitals are one of the finest charitable organizations on earth. I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Last year while visiting Philadelphia, I came across a Masonic temple while walking to our temple and scheduled a tour for one of my days there. I was curious bc I’d heard Joseph Smith had had connections with Masonry and there were similarities in some of our temple symbols, and I’ve learned that it’s best to learn about things from the source. While the Philadelphia lodge and salt lake ones are different in a lot of ways, there are a lot of similarities-like the Philly one also has Egyptian, Moorish, and Gothic rooms. I hadn’t known until the tour that many Founding Fathers were Masons. I had a lot of questions about the symbolism we saw, and our guide was often unable to answer them-not because he wasn’t allowed, but because he didn’t know, as he was not a Mason himself. Actually, I was disappointed that he treated the institution with mockery. Despite his flippancy, however, the tour was illuminative and has enriched my temple attendance since then, since I have a new understanding of some of the symbols we share.
I've been to that Temple. It's absolutely beautiful...literally steps from Philadelphia City Hall. Next time you are on the East Coast, make a visit to the Temple in NYC...another absolutely beautiful building.
Well done. I'd would love to be able to visit that Masonic Lodge. We have nothing like that in Louisiana. My lodge basically split in two. One part is our meeting room or temple, and the other is for non-masonic gatherings. Like eating. That room has a very large kitchen and we cook many of our meals there. Unlike many lodges, we eat first and then conduct our meeting. I don't know if it's a thing, but many of our Motorcycle lodges don't have a building at all, and use other lodges facilities for their meetings. We just hosted one this last Saturday. And we've assisted in raising some of their Fellow Craft's masons to Master because they don't have enough members to do it on their own.
The auditorium has also been used for public music events. Many of us have been in there to attend the Christmas concerts of the music group The Lower Lights for several years. It's a beautiful space.

I had a photography studio in the Masonic temple in Los Angeles across the street from the convention center. My room was the Eastern star room. I restored this room with the star on the ceiling, took me a month to paint it and replace all of the colored lights in each of the star points. Polished all of the brass. This was the Siloam chapter 406. I still have the Bible that was presented to the order dated April 11, 1923. It now sits on a table in my living room. That makes this bible over 100 years old ! Sadly I do not have any photos.
The entrance to Solomon’s Temple was majestically flanked by two significant pillars, Jachin and Boaz, symbolizing strength and establishment. Jachin, situated on the right, signifies “He will establish,” while Boaz, positioned on the left, signifies “In Him is strength.” These pillars are not merely structural elements but profound symbols in Masonic tradition, representing foundational principles that inculcate stability and support within the Masonic teachings and allegories. Inculcate means to instill or teach an idea, attitude, or habit by persistent instruction. It involves repeatedly and consistently embedding a particular value, belief, or knowledge into someone's mind or behavior.

@@anthonyiocca5683 If any Freemason attempts to use the craft for financial gain, they can expect to be removed from Freemasonry. Joseph Smith could not do such things in a Masonic Lodge, so he created a religion that gave him other people's money, their wives & daughters.
joseph was poor, joseph was well known as an honest boy then man. whatever he was associated with he shed it all when he was assigned to be a prophet and witness to Jesus Christ and restore the church Jesus established when he was here. the restoring is to allow again people to be baptized to become His disciples as well as to prepare for His return. history of early church members tells it took awhile for members to slowly disconnect from worldly ways and associations. those who didn’t want to, didn’t. it’s that simple. everyone will have the opportunity to accept or decline this doctrine. it’s okay to say there are former members and those that don’t believe, like yourself. no one is forced. if members behave that way they are still learning how to share like i did how it works. hopefully that helped in some way :)
As a former member of the LDS church, dont be fooled that you need to be a member of either of these groups. You have your own connection to a higher power within you. It's never outside of yourself.
No one ever implied in this video that membership in either was any type of moral or spiritual requirement. Sorry if you felt like you were forced in your personal life.
Keep in mind that the Masonic order is a fraternity, not a religious institution. As with all good institutions, it can contribute positively to people's lives without being a religion. Nor is its existence meant to replace any of the world's religions, for it is through our religious denominations that our spiritual salvation is achieved.
I love the videos that you guys put out exploring different aspects of the history of the church. I am not Mormon and yet I can see how there is definitely a borrowing of things from Mason rituals and designs. The upside down star in the Mason temple sure looks like the ones that are on the temple in Nauvoo. Is this video a small way for the church to admit that it has masonic symbols and actually uses several things from masonry in the temple ceremonies? I am not trying to start any arguments, I just want to legitimately know the truth. Keep up the great work and thank you for showing us outsiders and members what's going on behind the scenes.
It cannot be overlooked that millenia before there were Masons, and millenia before there were Aztecs, there were Temples. On consulting the scholars, one will find that it was the Masons who borrowed from the Temples, not the other way around. One of the oldest books in the world is the Temple Scroll, which bears out the antiquity of the Temples, and multiple dispensations of the Gospel. It was a practice, over time, to claim to have knowledge that one did not necessarily have, in order to gain influence and power. As a result, we see the ruins of true Temples alongside the ruins of copycat temples The Masons were/are among the latter. Joseph Smith had access to the Oracles of God. Through him the Temple was restored in it's purity, as it was in the beginning.
Just remember that no individual member with a youtube channel short of the President of the Church, First Presidency and/or quorum of the 12 can speak on it's behalf when it comes to offical standings. With that said, it is well known, as explained in this video that Joseph Smith Jr. was indeed a mason and used truth(anywhere he could get it) and was inspired from the Holy Spirit to use masonic symbolism in some aspects. I can't speak from a masonic side of things. Growing up and finding out about these things I was also curious and asked about them. Who's to say that good men aren't inspired whether or not they are part of a specifc church. The Holy Ghost testifies of the truth of all things, whether that be spiritual or secular. Maybe knowledge and truth had been passed down from the early saints, to the templar, to the masons...that's my personal theory.
Joseph didn't need to "borrow" anything from the Masons. That's the lazy conclusion. Joseph restored what the Masons are but a limited, piecemeal, apostate version of.
I edited this video and toured the masonic temple several times now. Each time I thought of how different we are. As the video says, 10% of the LDS endowment is similar to Masonry. The rest is from the Bible. Both organizations use the bible. Considering LDS temples also have baptisms, initiatories, sealings, that probably brings the percentage down to like 1% of LDS temple ceremonies are similar to Masonic rituals. So you can see how every time I went to the SLC temple, I was reminded how different it is. What is similar between Masons and Latter-day Saints seems even less, when you add in other similar rituals from churchs like Catholics or even secular University graduations (with their caps and gowns). So Joseph Smith was translating the Book of Abraham, and he saw temple practices in it. Then he became a Mason and he saw temple practices in it. He was probably familiar with Catholics. And he probably knew the Book of Mormon enough to see it's temple practices. Certainly he knew the Bible enough to know about Solomons temple. All that came together to Joseph Smith, at the right time, to allow him to be open to the Lord in restoring the temple. In a way, I guess you could say the Lord inspired Masonry to come along Joseph's path. Joseph saw good in Masonry and adapted a small portion of it into our inspired version of the temple. Sure, some things are very similar, but in a way, Joseph saw the value of the teaching method, and used it. It's kind of the same how when LDS leaders came accross film and video, they adapted film into our temple ordinances because they help teach the principles. Rituals are very powerful, and it makes sense that Masonry, a practice founded on biblical rituals, would ring true to Joseph Smith.
My children are looking forward to joining this organization when they are old enough! Probably after they serve their missions, we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and have had many freemasons in our family.
Basically yes, but some lodges have started allowing women. There’s two types of these lodges “feminine” lodges that are women only, and “mixed” lodges which is exactly what it says it is. Where it gets interesting is some grand lodges don’t allow masons from “masculine” lodges to attend the feminine or mixed closed meetings.
The Book of Mormon denounces secret combinations as "most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God." They are also considered to be one of the signs that a people is ripe for the Lord's vengeance, and according to the Book of Mormon, in the last days, they will be prevalent on the earth.
About 17 yrs ago I actually snuck into the SLC masonic temple....wow wee is all I can say about THAT place....then once my friend and I left, due to him getting all freaked out and having a melt down,we took off but was actually followed around SaltLakeCity for the whole rest of the day and night and some of the next day also.....
"Thou shalt have no other Gods before me. How does that fit in here at the masonic temple?" Freemasonry is not a religion. The discussion of religion in the Lodge and among Freemasons is forbidden.
Are you a Christian or an Israelite (you can be both, but be careful with your answer). If you're a true Christian then the most important commandment Joshua gave to his followers was "Love God (YHWH) with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul" and second "love your fellow man as you love yourself (without prejudice)". Then if you are a member of one of the 12 tribes of Israel then the entire law of Moshe applies to you, otherwise only the 7 commandments of Noha apply. The first being "Do not worship idols" and yes the imagery of Joshua and the cross ARE Idols.
The Book of Mormon denounces secret combinations as "most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God." They are also considered to be one of the signs that a people is ripe for the Lord's vengeance, and according to the Book of Mormon, in the last days, they will be prevalent on the earth.
@@zon3665 Context matters. The Book of Mormon denounced those secret combinations which were calculated to allow evil men to murder and rob. Masonry does not resemble such combinations in any sense whatsoever. Indeed, if one denounces any organization based solely on the fact that it has secrets which are only divulged to the initiated, one must also denounce both the modern LDS Church AND the ancient Christian Church established by Jesus and the Apostles (and which are well-documented to have included secret initiatory Mystery rites).

I was on Reddit and commented on the free mason page.

And there’s another scripture that states: “faith without works is dead”(GODS WORK) And that’s referring to acting according to your belief, living the gospel. Faith= belief+action
Most Religions teach that all you have to do is believe, and you are saved. Which is ridiculous and only step one of the full truth. If you truly believe, You will LIVE IT. Striving to become like Jesus daily by actively repenting of your sins, following the commandments, and preach his gospel.
Love is also requires action. For example Jesus asked Peter 3 times.. “do you love me?” “Then feed my sheep” ACTION. And the FIRST AND GREATEST COMMANDMENT is to love thy God with all thy heart, mind and soul.

Master Masons can become Shriners. Shriner's Hospitals are one of the finest charitable organizations on earth. Our oldest son was born with multiple birth defects and had many surgeries at Shriner's Hospitals in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Utah. My wife and I appreciated the world-class health care, but even more importantly, we loved how the Shriner's system made our son feel important and empowered. Our experience has been that Masons and Shriners are exemplary human beings.

@ funny, I just returned from Boston not long ago. I’ll have to do NY another time haha

Im a black belt in Taekwondo (World taekwondo federation) and i can tell you the tradition, symbolism, and lore from that style has more overlap into lds teaching and culture than youd think. You start as a white belt, 10 gup (no experience), move down to 1 gup (red belt) and become a black belt. Then, almost like being baptized, you realize how much you dont know and tbat its also your responsibility to teach others. You then become 1 dan, and you progress to 9th degree black belt (the whole process taking decades). Technically, a 10th dan is a 9th degree grand master whi has died in that rank and now is on the other side of tbings.
