@@keithleeuwen877 I like the first two albums a lot,but...all the others come up short, in my opinion, except for the song "Drive" but that was kind of a change-of-pace song
What a great time for Rock n Roll! So glad I grew up in the 80's but so bummed when they broke up my junior year in highschool!!! Still love blasting The Cars every summer, windows down, speeding down the highway!
Such a great band and so many awesome and amazing memories to their music God I really miss the good old days and all my friends that I used to party and hang out with but just like the cars their time has passed as well and today all I see are the memories in the rearview may they all in peace 🍻🙏😔
Door To Door(1987) remains a severely underrated album, an artistic peak IMO…I don’t know why the fans are always so quick to dismiss it…Thankfully, Ric lived a full life even though he passed too soon….
Very well done on this, great account of Ric's life and music, still love "Emotion in Motion! and have the vinyl single, and just ordered "This side of Paradise" album thanks to this video. RIP Ric and Benjamin.
Ric and The Cars were the evolution of R&R from the late 70's into the 80's. Who can forget not only their sound but the great music videos on MTV! One of the most beautiful Car's songs and of any playlist, "Drive." Ric and Benjamin 🙏✝♥
I worked at Synchro Sound up until it's closing in the mid 90s. We worked on a cars album in the early 90s, but it was never released. It was actually industrial and very different from new wave. Greg Hawks, who was such a really nice person, told me that the reason they had broken up was because Greg had done most of the song writing on HBC, but Rick took all the song writing credits. k
I was never a big fan, I was into hard rock, punk and metal, but for what they did they were one of the best, and they have grown on me over the years, I love the song Drive, this is a really good video but the timeline is all over the place.
@@RedheadLondon I'm not sure, didn't see anything about that when researching for the vid. I just did a google search and didn't find anything that would verify that either. But in some photos they do look related though lol 😁
Ric was no doubt a genius. He was incredibly talented. I know he is depicted as an ass and very egotistical. However, I have read that his father was very strict and controlling, probably causing Ric to be insecure and he played the role of superiority. RIP Richard.
Alpine Valley, Wisconsin. Something like 1984 😀I have had some real-life adventures in the music world, that would make many people faint dead away, to hear about 😀
40 years 🎂 since Heartbeat City was released. Roy Baker gave The Cars 🚗 a start producing the debut album to the 4th album. Mutt Lange produced the 5th and most popular album. Drive 🚗 is the signature song 🎵. RIP Ric Ocasek and Ben Orr.
@@veltonmeade1057Un the induction of The Cars into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the late Ric Ocasek thanked 😊 Mutt Lange. He did a lot, including delay working on Hysteria for Def Leppard until 1987. From 1960s to the 1980s, producers mad a huge difference for sales. The late Sir George Martin, late Phil Spector, late Tom Dowd, late Phil Ramone were some of the big names. Max Martin, Dan Huff are 2 of the big names from 20002 to today.
So bad to know that Ric's last wife abandoned him long before his death, that might be the cause of his passing away. Shame on you Periskova, you should have been next to your husband all the way.
I grew up outside of Boston in the late '60's and '70's. WBCN played alot of local bands. Saw the Cars with Wang Chung as the opener. The Cars were so loud I thought my ears would bleed.
You must have seen them on an off night,I saw them on the same tour and aside from no audience participation (which was normal for them),they put on a decent performance.
The narrator keeps going on about how future releases did not live up to the same commercial success barely releases. Too often narrators focus on that. Most bands, all bands actually have a period of commercial success and then they don’t but often they continue to put out good music. So this, comparing to old is unfair and kind of erroneous point since all bands go through that grant it up a little bit in this case because the cars broke up but most bands really should be concerned after commercial can they still not go on as a legacy band. Take Pearl Jam for example they were smart enough to break up, and now they still are huge The cars could have the same

The Cars debut album from 1978 is pure Masterpiece! It's practically a greatest hits album. RIP Ric & Benjamin.
So is Candy O

Where was this in upstate NY?
My first concert was The Cars in 1982 when I was 14. Great band. Moving in Stereo was always my favorite.
Pretty sure it was = is for everybody our age. Please have a good evening.
One of my favorites of that era. Such great songs, each with their own unique and interesting blend of instruments and sounds. RIP

They were great at Live Aid in '85
My ex girlfriend stole my copy Just What I Needed! I still miss that album!

As I have always said, "producers" are 50% of the success of a band, and they do not get enough respect.

I much prefer Ric in solo and I met his friend Alan Vega on october 1983
Another award he should've received is for those ginormous ears, it was said he could hear a pin drop from 40 kilometers.
My cousin Faye Marie dated him for a short time
The Cars weren't new wave. They were rock 'n roll.
😆 - I guess Pink Floyd was a country western band then huh?
Ric Ocasek became ill .............she ditched him.
Say no more!
I saw the Cars in 1984- they abbreviated all of their songs. It was a huge letdown. 👎🏻
Did they just do a medley? I never like it when they do that.
You must have seen them on an off night,I saw them on the same tour and aside from no audience participation (which was normal for them),they put on a decent performance.

Correct, the keys are understated yet dominant in all those bands.
Ray Manzarek,,,The Doors
He left nothing for his kids or model wife
I thought he was very cold and heartless to his ex-wife and two of his children.
Ric would be 80 this year! 😮
Paulina wore him down
What a way to go though! 😊
He was a narcissist.
You wouldn’t know a narcissist from a pharmacist. 🤡
I wonder why he removed 2 of his sons from his will.
