Something I'm curious whether it can be done using the platforms is stairs into a pool, so like the platforms would be inside the large pool, so it's like the sim could walk into the pool vs jumping in or climbing down a pool ladder. so many real pools have steps into the pool I'm wondering if this would now be possible in Sims 4 Edit: Well damn, didn't know my random thought would be so popular, lol
Wait! This means we can do halfway undeground basement! All over Denmark we have these basements that are only halfway underground. You can have windows, which means natural light and we have a very high water level, which makes normal basements a struggle. I'm looking forward to be able to make a proper danish townhouse.
My parents house is on a hill in Canada. The basement has access outside on one side and the upstairs is ground level on the other side. It would be nice to be able to do that in the game as real houses aren’t always on flat lots and have different t entry level heights.
We have those here in Canada too! Pretty much all the houses in my municipality have above ground type basements. Plus with this update I can finally accurately recreate my childhood house!
that 1 story house when you using the different heights of platforms is beautiful, it seems so dynamic with the different levels 👍🏼 will there be a speed build for that house?
I'm so glad you did this video! As much as I was looking forward to platforms I could already see myself barely using them because I was afraid I had no idea how to, so the only way I ever would would be a sunken in living room space and that's it.
Platforms are insane. So much potential. I'd love to have the option to have half walls etc start at the top of a platform and then be raised to whatever height needed. Just for the sake of more options but I'm aware that would be a coding nightmare and have some serious issues if you have ahead wall start at floor height intersecting with a half wall starting above it at platform height.😅
Yeah, I tend to use half walls more than the fences as there aren't very many I like to use for interiors (or not for the vibe of the house I'd be working on, or they don't match the wood tone of the stairs or have a matching version for the stairs railings). But then I'd also like a half wall without the massive ugly trims they insist on using. We have a half wall at the top of our stairs in real life and there's no trim on it and I'd hate it if there was as it would just be something sharp and pointy to walk into. LOL
platform stair for modern house front door is so sick, i seen some real architectural use wide stair platform entrance is so cool with outdoor lamp on every platform stair.

about the heights, I've seen that it depends on the sim. The excuse has always been about the program "engine" would not allow. The reality is that programmers need to be told to do it, for it to be done. As in the case of platforms. Thanks, James, for the Vid and its so nice to see your work in this expansion.
EA's "it can't be done, the engine doesn't allow it" is just shorthand code for "to do that would require substantial reworking which would require substantial payments of money to a substantial team of workers, and we don't actually want to do any of that so far into a game that we're unlikely to make a profit from the new additions to the base game". Because all they care about is profit. They care a lot less about how they get that profit, provided it requires little spending on their part (hence why they adore their loot boxes in things like FIFA - minimum work needed so very low cost to implement, VERY large profit).

This is a childhood dream come true! Since I was 8yo playing on The Sims 2, I wanted to build my own family home in the Sims. Only problem is that we have SO MANY split levels in my house that it was basically impossible; even the foundation hack didn't do it since we have split levels in the upper floors as well
I'm an original simmer that's been playing since the first Sims was released... Due to life, I had to stop playing for a while, and now that I've been able to play again, there's been quite a few changes that I'm having to learn, and things I'm having to relearn - like the platform tool. I've been trying to play around with the different builds using platforms but failing miserably. There's so many different tutorials and how-to 's , but none have really described it the way you have. Thank you for your massive help. I'm off to build a nicely built crappy apartment building and force my previous creepy and slumlord landlords to live in the hell they tried to keep me and my family in. Then I can increase their rent or evict them. Screw the lease, apparently. That's what my previous one tried to do.
This is so wild to watch in 2023 because I started playing TS4 when platforms were already a well-established feature. But yeah, obviously this was groundbreaking (pun intented hehe) when it came out, and continues being an amazing feature to this day.
I'm excited for the idea of the new options for stairs and those sections of stairs that can hold couches and such like what you see in Victorian homes.

Once the pack drops, a new build video using all the packs would be great, especially with this new tool. I'm sure we all get great ideas from your videos. Thanks for the tutorial.
Omg thank you so much, I was already anxious about building with platforms coz I'm just so stupid and this video helped a lot
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG
Yes, I would like to see a tutor on using them as stairs outside and inside, also if you do a basement level or down level for platforms, Thanks.
Thank you! I’ve been beating my head off the wall it felt trying to get this right! Might go back and change a few of my builds now haha thank you!
James this was so helpful! Thank you, so excited for this update :)
you have inspired me!!! i watch tons of anime and there was one house where they had a sunken living room instead of a raised one and the entrance was above while having a stair case to another level in the home!! I need a new PC ASAP!
The Sims 4 build mode is my favorite of all versions. But, I was still patiently waiting for this build option to make a return. Patience awarded :)
I've always wanted to make my house in the sims but it was always too hard and I'd just give up. I live in a tri-level house and this will make it actually possible to make. I'm so excited!
I cannot - and I cannot stress this enough - wait to see your builds after the update.
Thanks for the overview! This gave me so many ideas for my world!!
Thank you so much for this video James. Really excited for this update.
We've been begging for this feature for decades, I am so happy right now I absolutely can't wait for the update!!
I remember one of James’ first videos I watched was “how to split level in the sims 4” :’)
This is a childhood dream come true! Since I was 8yo playing on The Sims 2, I wanted to build my own family home in the Sims. Only problem is that we have SO MANY split levels in my house that it was basically impossible; even the foundation hack didn't do it since we have split levels in the upper floors as well
this is a true game changer. Now we just need windows that could be placed on foundations so we could have true basement windows!
Thank you for teaching us! I’m not very good at building but can’t wait to see the wonders you and other magicians will do with this 😍🙏🏽
I'm an original simmer that's been playing since the first Sims was released...
Buying our first home this year, and it's a split level. So glad I'll be able to make it in the sims!
Can't wait to play with the platforms. Thanks for the tutorial!
After this it would be awesome to be able to change the ceiling colors like we did in TS3. One step at a time but we're getting there!
Thank you JamesTurnerformallyknownasthesimsuply. Very well explained tutorial!
I cant wait to get creative with this tool ♥
placing a platform on top of a flat roofed building makes it look so much better, this saved my build thanks james!
oh shoot i just got to 9:08…
This is so wild to watch in 2023 because I started playing TS4 when platforms were already a well-established feature. But yeah, obviously this was groundbreaking (pun intented hehe) when it came out, and continues being an amazing feature to this day.
I'm excited for the idea of the new options for stairs and those sections of stairs that can hold couches and such like what you see in Victorian homes.
