And I think the biggest flex in the new Landgraab Mansion is that they have a _green lawn_ in the _desert_
While i don’t love the goth house kitchen either, you could make the argument that it’s small and tucked away like that because it’s obviously an old house owned by a rich family, in which case the kitchen was used by servants, not the goth family themselves.
that was immediately my first thought, but then the dining room being small as well didn't make any sense as they would likely have guests over! probably a big, long table would be more appropriate.
That kitchen is actually very reminiscent of gothic revival Victorian houses. I've been in many early-mid 1800s house that have that exact type of layout-- a small kitchen with a little bit of shelf space, stove and fridge, but leads directly out to the back of the house. The dining room being as small as it is was definitely surprising on this build, though.
The Goth House update, REALLY leans into the sims 2 Goth House! The kitchen and dining were kinda small in that one too, but I really like it. Not sure how I feel about the removed skill items, no bar in bff house, no easel in pancakes, no computers in Spencer Kim Lewis… that feels odd.
yeah it seems they went more for aesthetics than functionality for some reason, but some things could also be because of item restrictions perhaps? but really not sure, best explanation is... it's an ea build lol
@ yeah, I figured it’s either item count/performance restrictions, budget, just plain forgot, or some combination. But it still kind of felt odd. The lack of a bed for Don Lothario in the Caliente house is what really threw me though, when they did the refresh it was just CAS, they didn’t touch their relationships at all, so even though the bio says he should have romance with all of them, he has zero romance with any of them, so if you play in the household with the new house, they can’t all sleep at once unless you add a bed or have him romance someone. The only way this makes sense if’s if they plan to patch their relationships in the birthday patch, or move him out into his own household with the release of the kit based on him.

If they don't have a telescope on the balcony of the Caliente house to reference Bella looking through it on Don Lothario's balcony, I'll be very disappointed. Edit: Not very disappointed because they DID remember to reference Bella looking through the telescope at Don's house, they just didn't put it on a balcony to reference it more accurately
When For Rent came out I turned it into a trailer park with 3 other rentable trailer that his parents own 😅 I like my version better but its so nice they didnt forget him entirely
I definitely get Kim Kardashian vibes from the new Landgraab mansion. Especially with the "sliding" windows in the back and the plain white couch in the middle
The old Pancake house has very "used to be a duplex" in some of awkwardness, or even 3 units (two upstairs one downstairs). It seems better now, I suppose, but I like the implication of history there. This kind of house is common where i am, they were built as multiunit and then renovated in the 70s.
My grandparents use to live in a victorian house that always reminds me of the Goths (we called it the Castle of Doom 😂) but my point is that their kitchen was absolutely tiny compared to the rest of the house, so I feel the tiny kitchen is actually relatable to real world builds.
Something about the new builds gives me sims 3 vibes in a really good way. In sims 3 I feel like the pre built townie lots had a lot of character and also showcased different tools the game had. These builds made me realize I don't use some of the cool build tools we have enough like platforms to make more dynamic spaces!! And I think they highlighted the characters really well with things like Johnny Zests whole interior, and Bobs man cave!
When James does a calmer, more detailed look at the sims game then the actual sims team! This does not surprise me at all! Thank you for the hard work and not being a Mr 7 minutes!
These are really cool, but I kinda would've preferred an update to the starter homes and empty homes in the base game. The ones that are more likely to be seen by players. I spend so much time in that cheap willow creek house, but I've never even seen the inside of the Landgraabs and I've been playing since the Sims 4 came out. But they did a seriously great job with the update all round.
1 - cypress terrace would be SO FUN to do a million rennovations of!! so many different styles and stuff you can change the house to, it'd be a fun shell-ish challenge to reno the house without changing walls or adding too much to the budget? 1a - OR the goth house, see if we can't make a better floor plan for level 2?? 1b - OR OR just let people choose one or more of the houses that was madeover to reno with the stipulation you can't change any exterior walls and the budget can only increase by §5k. even if no simfluencers do this officially i'm doing it. 2 - there's something about the original ophelia villa kitchen that feels sims 3-ish to me idk why but i just noticed it 3 - petition to make his name zest johnny again. i miss that guy. 4 - the roomies house reminds me of one of my favorite houses from sunset valley. i miss her. 5 - i like that the original goth house will still sorta be in the game through the storybook nursery kit, since the dollhouse is based off it
I feel like the single couch is intentional in the Landgrab mansion, same as the outdoor dining table with only four chairs and only as many beds as needed for the household. I guess it's supposed to show that they are big in business (hence the huge office space), but not privately social.
i feel like the big stairs were to take up space to make sense of why the houses were so big. the floating ceiling lights are because the light doesn't filter between floors properly (in my experience). plus if you have a two floor room the top half doesn't count as the same room for auto lights and such so you need the little ones but usually they are hidden better
They did the Goth's kitchen dirty, but I think the Landgraab's is "fine" that way. I can't see Nancy or Geoffrey cooking, so they have a very sleek modern looking kitchen, that impresses visitors, but they order take out or have a chef delivery service, and putting the fridge here makes it not visible so it makes sense. Malcolm's fridge is obviously full of snack and sodas. Same with the single couch, it's a waiting room for the business wing, not a living room, so they don't need several.
The reason a lot of Willow Creek houses looked like that with the balcony is bcs it was based on homes in New Orleans, Louisana. I do like the remodels though bcs the surburban look suits the pancakes a lot. Ps. Love the fact that it looks more obvious that they sleep in different bedrooms too 😂
I've been playing the Spencer-Kim-Lewis household in my build save recently and I get annoyed every time I have to be in there, it makes me so mad 😭 so glad they did a refresh.
I am so happy i didnt have any customers at the time i watched your video. I was laughing so hard. When i saw Kayla announce her collab kit, i was crying.
can't quite decide whether I hate the menu re-design or not. it seems much less busy with nonsense, which is good, but the actual important bits (resume, load, new game) don't really stick out visually. very happy for Zest Johnny's new crib. he deserves more love. I feel like I'm doing my part, but there needs to be some sort of bigger movement...
Okay, I kind of love the new pancakes house. I really want to play there now. And it would be so fun to go in and renovate these homes using all the packs and kits. Such great shells to add some finishing touches to.
I feel like I’m one of the few people that likes when the indoor lighting looks more natural and isn’t just the bright white saucer light. I use those for building but then delete them and set the lighting perfectly per room
I disliked the new meain menu at first but after a few seconds of looking at it... I honestly love it? The last played Sims family being the focal point really works and makes me want to play. Sure it's annoying that they moved all the menu options to the opposite side of the screen, but maybe because I play a ton of CK3 which has a very similar set up, I'm not too bothered.
I missed the caracterist architecture in the Pancake's house because I liked the vibe of willow creek being inspired in New Orleans. Obviously they had a sims take in other lots like the Goth and Spencer. Totally agree with the lack of healthy in the goth's house inside.
My first thought on the new main menu design was, that it gave me crusader kings 3 menu vibes. 😂 The characters in the middle posing, while having some sort of menu on the left. 😂
These builds are much better. There’s still some odd choices but they look so much nicer. The landgrabs remind me of something that would be on selling sunset. 🌅
I wish they’d included a dining table for the Kim-Spencer-Lewis house. That feels like a mistake. They only have barstools, and not even enough for the number of sims in the house!
Mistakes? There’s at least 3! 1. In the BFF house, the wall lights in the living room are not the same height. 2. In the Pancakes house, one of the outside wall of the basement stair is painted from a wallpaper they didn’t have in the house. 3. In the Spencer Kim Lewis, one of the wall in the green house near the door isn’t painted!
I would have liked to see an extra room upstairs in the landgrabs house, designed like they did the other rooms, but maybe used as something else, like an indoor gym or something seemingly random, or maybe just empty, just to kind of show that someone else used to live there, but doesn't now
Thank you so much for waking up early to film this for us! When I heard about an update I was looking for your video right away, you’re my favorite sims TH-camr! Sending you love of love ❤️
I think they missed a bedroom for the calientes!!! there was actually 4 bedrooms in the original build, one on the ground floor. it made sense since there are 4 SIMS in the household. One of the sisters is probably sleeping on the sofa.
I feel like the refreshed houses took a lot of cues from creator builds and I love, that they did that. Many of the open, bright spaces reminded me of things that Deli likes to do in her builds, for example, and the outside of the Pancake house - a Blue Suburban?! - gave me Simsie-vibes. I also enjoy that the new houses showcase a lot of the things that are now standard in base game, like painted ceilings, glass ceilings, etc. I notice that there are no curved walls however, so not even the Sims-team could make those work properly. Kind of disappointed, that they didn't have a 3rd bedroom at the Landgraav mansion. Johnny grabs his family's cash and runs and Nancy- what? Demolishes an entire wing of the house to erase all trace of his presence there? Makes no sense.
It looks like we might also get a new Aspiration. I can not make it, but it looks either like a wine bottle in the sand, or an upside-down U-shaped magnet. It is in gold so I know it is an aspiration!
When I saw that glimpse of red light in the Pancakes' basement, I forgot this would still have to be base game and 100% thought they'd built Bob and Eliza a sort of PG-rated WooHoo room and that the Lovestruck costume trunk would be down there.

I don't know if you can actually put it onto a balcony. Since it's covered with a roof, it's technically not outside?
@darrylwhitefeather207 you're right it wouldn't function
James literally went “welp im up now better at least make it worthwhile” 😂
Johnny Zest really needed the new house, and I'm relieved they actually gave him a computer now.
When For Rent came out I turned it into a trailer park with 3 other rentable trailer that his parents own 😅 I like my version better but its so nice they didnt forget him entirely
maybe he can get married now seeing as tho he gets a double bed instead of the single bed
20:26 Wow! I never knew his name was backwards back on launch day. Cool fun fact!
welcome back to a new sims 54 video!
35:28 - That poor lady keeps losing The Random Pause Game.
I thought it was just me 😂 James just ignored it and no one else has mentioned it but I was crying laughing
That was fast! Didnt exspect the video to come before tomorrow😅 Happy to see the video is longer than 7 minutes🎉🎉🎉🎉🙂54🙂
Lol, 54
Loved Johnny’s trailer, the other houses are great upgrades too. Sad about the Goth’s kitchen though 😢
The landgrab house is probably my favorite makeover, when you go to camera mode it's so nice and realistic... I'm amaze 😭💕
I must say katrinas house is the only one where I like the old exteriour more then the new one. All other houses (minus some details) are great!
me too! plus the interior of the new one doesnt really match the exterior which is more mediterranean looking :-(
Nooo the beige/grey home epidemic reached the new sims homes 😩😭
Something about the new builds gives me sims 3 vibes in a really good way. In sims 3 I feel like the pre built townie lots had a lot of character and also showcased different tools the game had.
These builds made me realize I don't use some of the cool build tools we have enough like platforms to make more dynamic spaces!! And I think they highlighted the characters really well with things like Johnny Zests whole interior, and Bobs man cave!
When James does a calmer, more detailed look at the sims game then the actual sims team! This does not surprise me at all!
Thank you for the hard work and not being a Mr 7 minutes!
32:13 lmao thr designer went off on the symmetry and then remembered the fridge 🤣
Looks like Bob got a Mancave... 😅
wow James that was so fast!
They took away Don Lothario's bedroom, guess he has to share the bed with all the 3 ladies in the Caliente house
there is one room missing in the Calientes house so i guess the finally kick out Don Lothario
I think for the bigger lots and their sparsely furnished kitchens and living rooms, it might have to do with object amount restrictions.
The way he goes, I wanna find the mistakes, but then doesn't see that the roof piece in the front is to low 😭😭 8:05
The way that this video is more in depth and longer than the official live 👀
Exactly 😂
1 - cypress terrace would be SO FUN to do a million rennovations of!! so many different styles and stuff you can change the house to, it'd be a fun shell-ish challenge to reno the house without changing walls or adding too much to the budget?
1a - OR the goth house, see if we can't make a better floor plan for level 2??
1b - OR OR just let people choose one or more of the houses that was madeover to reno with the stipulation you can't change any exterior walls and the budget can only increase by §5k. even if no simfluencers do this officially i'm doing it.
2 - there's something about the original ophelia villa kitchen that feels sims 3-ish to me idk why but i just noticed it
3 - petition to make his name zest johnny again. i miss that guy.
4 - the roomies house reminds me of one of my favorite houses from sunset valley. i miss her.
5 - i like that the original goth house will still sorta be in the game through the storybook nursery kit, since the dollhouse is based off it
I love it when you guys react together. Because all your perspectives and opinions together is so funny
James was silent when he saw the Goth kitchen lol
One sofa in the whole massive living room for the landgrabs is strange
And the angle of one's neck as not only is it over the fireplace but on a platform too..! One would need a neck brace!
the house refreshes are actually so good! it’s making me want to play with townies for the first time in a long time
I feel like the single couch is intentional in the Landgrab mansion, same as the outdoor dining table with only four chairs and only as many beds as needed for the household.
So happy that Johnny's mobile home is so much better now.
Thanks for the comparison tour of the base game houses. I look forward to seeing your renovations on these houses, James.
The fact that I looked at the main menu when you switched to it and screamed Fortnite, only for you to mention it seconds later hahahaha
I can't unsee it now 😭
SAME. I agree with others that seeing the most recent household large and centered is nice, but the colors and fonts are really screaming fortnite
You are so so fast, I left your stream, I did some sport and now your video is uploaded!!
16:33 UNPAINTED WALL in the corner of the greenhouse behind the small palm looking potted plant by the hose
if you look at 11:36 you can see that they messed up painting the walls in the bathroom. oh sims team.
I paused just to say this😅
I feel like I’m one of the few people that likes when the indoor lighting looks more natural and isn’t just the bright white saucer light.
9:31 why is none commenting on the different color arches on this room?
need a tier ranking of the house remodels vid
My first thought on the new main menu design was, that it gave me crusader kings 3 menu vibes. 😂
The characters in the middle posing, while having some sort of menu on the left.
I would have liked to see an extra room upstairs in the landgrabs house, designed like they did the other rooms, but maybe used as something else, like an indoor gym or something seemingly random, or maybe just empty, just to kind of show that someone else used to live there, but doesn't now
the new goth kitchen fills me with rage
I LOVE the BFFs, so I'm super glad they refreshed their house! I think I miss Summer's old bedroom a little, though...
OMG- I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new update, - and the *roasting* of it lmao
It would be REALLY FUNNY if that's actually what happened. I might have to write that into a storyline.
It looks like we might also get a new Aspiration. I can not make it, but it looks either like a wine bottle in the sand, or an upside-down U-shaped magnet. It is in gold so I know it is an aspiration!
I opened up my game and freaked out at the refresh and imediatley came here to see what happened
Thank you so much for putting this video together, it was nice to see the build refreshes side by side!
When I saw that glimpse of red light in the Pancakes' basement, I forgot this would still have to be base game and 100% thought they'd built Bob and Eliza a sort of PG-rated WooHoo room and that the Lovestruck costume trunk would be down there.
I like the new menu. My family with twin infants looked so cute when I loaded the game. And the new houses are fantastic!
