There's something incredible about the fact the game can handle 100 apartments better than 100 mini goats or chickens, or just a labirynth shaped fence.
I am sure what it can handle is also dependent on the system running the game. Also 100 sims aren’t always active, they can disappear into units, where 100 mini sheep active at the same time are concurrently being simulated.
Maybe I should restart the 100 Baby Challenge, and instead of moving the grown-up kids away, I'll let them have an apartment and we all live in a 100 apartment building haha
I wonder if you could use this pack to redo the prison challenge. You could make each cell into an 'apartment' and then have all the activities in a shared space
I got an idea as soon as you explained that the whole world is empty and every single sim is living in your lot…..giant fallout bunker 👀 It would be really funny to build an underground, completely closed shelter to house a bunch of sims. Have a hydroponic garden, big community kitchen, arts and activities…they can just never leave because there is a nuclear winter outside. Or at least that’s what they have been told…. 😈
I love that idea! There's several challenges on the forums with that theme, so this would be a neat way to do it, and with the ability to set rooms that aren't connected as the same unit, you could make the main shelter doors part of your unit as the landlord so no one can get out, and with each unit being a whole household you could make quarters for whole families and fit the iconic NPCs with room left for some of your own families... with all the expansion worlds, you'd get to play overseer and determine who gets quarters in the shelter and who gets deleted, and allocate enough beds, toddler beds, and cribs to each family - don't want to waste space putting a household in too many rooms, also need everyone to have enough beds and facilities for little ones, and households under 8 people need a crib and toddler bed in case, and families from the Cats and Dogs world will need items for pets... sounds tedious to most Sims players but just like the management games I played as a kid. Add to that rules common to these challenges about getting everything you need internally because you can't just order stuff, and public spaces a large apt building wouldn't have but you need in a fallout shelter... would still need a solution to kids and teens' school needs, but there are indepth "homeschool" mods as well as somewhere out there a work from home option for high school and elementary school based on the system from City Living, so those could be used, along with a public classroom space containing child items and computer desks for completing the requirements... would probably set the rent on each unit to just enough to cover the taxes so the system produces a net zero for the "landlord"/overseer, really great idea for turning Sims into apocalypse vibes resource management, more so than any earlier version could. Hmm, maybe I should start building the lot for that in my game...
The 'no pets rule' really makes me want to see a complex with six househoulds but all of them only has one human and the rest are all cats and dogs that they're trying to hide. Can you imagine all the meowing and barking?
looks like real life hahah! I've hidden my dog from my landlords in the first 8 years I lived in appartments hahah! She sadly passed away, but I would still be smuggling my dog if she was still here. And honestly, in the 6 differents appartments i've lived in during the years i've never seen one that didn't have tenants with "illegal" pets 😅
i love how everyone is going bonkers with the apartments but im also crying tbh bc me and my 200 neighbors live in a building that looks EXACTLY like these and pay like 1.2-1.7k rent with someone super rich living at the top floor in one apartment the size of 9 of our apartments per floor truly dystopic 💀💀
They said on the livestream that the limit was 99 per save and then later said 100. I think it's 99 for the lot and 100 for the save. The reason you cannot put all 100 on the same lot is that the unit number is hard coded for 2 digits visually. It would require the UI to grow in order to display correctly. We have to go back to the University lot and Dream Home Decorator and turn them into the apartments they were supposed to be be! We can buy those lots in our new let’s play, bring them back to the Bigwallet family!!!!
the sims team did say there would be a 99 unit limit per save so sadly 100 appartments isn't possible. In any case, this monstruosity of a low-rise appartement complex with the all the base game townies & some more is funny to watch. Impressive optimisation work from the sims team
I think they need to keep tweaking this. They complain about conditions but there's literally nothing wrong, it's not gameplay, it's just a random event that you clear up by doing the interaction. There isn't a "this unit is bad because we needed this many beds" or "we need this item with a certain upgrade" or "I can't stand living with pests!" or anything of substance where you actually have to put effort into resolving the issue.
11:47, I found why you couldn't do the 100th! You went 88, 89, 9, 90, 91! Just saw it and thought I would mention it since I could see it was bothering you! :)
This would be great as container apartments all stacked on top of each other. It could be like a container shipping yard, but each container is a different apartment
2:48 tbh i expected them to add this curtain-like thing as a new door bc the pack is so southeast asian and we sometimes use beads and curtains as doors
Can you imagine trying to play in this building if you had MCC and increased the number of Sims on the lot to 99… The lag… Oh, my God! James, you’re very funny, and this building is very silly. 😂😂❤❤
Have you considered recreating the Begich Tower Condominiums in Whittier Alaska? It is informally known as the town that is almost fully contained in that building.
Hi James, thank you for your work. This video reminded me that one city on Alaska where all citizens live in one building (maybe you can do another video recreating it :)) " the residence for nearly the entire population of the city as well as containing many of its public facilities. This has earned Whittier the nickname of a "town under one roof"" It calls Begich Towers if you are interested :)
I'd love to see y'all play sims live on a lot this chaotic but with your assigned unit rooms being all over the place. Bathroom on the top floor, kitchen in the middle but kitchen sink outside etc etc
It's good to know you can select sims to move in. I'm inspired to make Hotel Transylvania in the game now and move all the occults in. I'm sure nothing will go wrong at all!
Ok James, I have a challenge for you. How about creating the most disgusting, run-down apartments you can? I'm talking about the kind that would make the tenants absolutely miserable
Should do 4 levels above ground, 4 basement levels, each with units, and on each basement level you have a center courtyard that is open to the above-ground (also open through all upper 4 floors) for a garden. I think that'd be cool and unique. Yet to see anyone do it.
This is so exciting! I built an apartment complex before, but I obviously was never able to move in tenants. But with this expansion pack I can finally finish my build! 😍
I would love to hear more about what belongs to the tenants and how much you can decorate. Does just the box belong to the landlord? Can a tenant repaint and refurnish? If you move your sim into a rental can they bring their own furniture?
@@janecampbell4662 On the last one, it's doubtful. So far Sims 4 doesn't have a way to own two homes unless you use mods and while apartments aren't a home per se it's still somewhere that they're living. I think modders will be able to make it happen (SimRealist was already doing it with RE) but I don't think that'll be a base game feature.
As an aside, modders can do it because they have the time to dedicate to things like that and they aren't messing with the source code like the devs are. It does make a difference.
