  • Come build a Split Level with me! The Suburban classic Split Level home is found across the US and, while new constructions are rare, since it was built in the 50s and 60s there are still plenty around. Hallmarks of this architectural style include short flights of stairs connecting levels, an above ground basement, and a decidedly dated façade. This will place perfectly in any American-suburb-like world. If you find this video awesome, please leave a like and let me know what style you would like to see covered!

    I wanted to say THANK YOU so much for the tutorial and for the tip you gave me. I wanted you to know, I have finally done it! I completed my Split Level house just last night. Took me awhile..but I did it.

    1:40 great nod to the Brady Bunch house. A classic split level mid century modern delight.

    you can change foundation (as well as roof trims) on different sections of the house by holding down shift. not sure about this one in particular bc of all the quirks, but I think it would've worked in that hallway. just found your channel, great stuff! I've been a sims builder for like 15 years, but it's still fun to watch all the different styles being built. I prefer realism in building and staying true to a particular style, so it's very cool you decided to cover all bases.

      Ah, you're so right on the foundation! That must have completely left my brain while I was recording this 🤦🏻‍♀️ Glad you're enjoying the videos!

      Welcome, and thanks for the lovely compliment! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos and I definitely look forward to making hundreds more 🥰 and if a million people like them, I wouldn't complain 😜

      I so agree. Most of the channels go so fast you can't follow or are so slow it's torture, all these videos are in the sweet spot with perfect length and pace.

    I am OBSESSED with this channel now. hahahaha It would really fun if you picked an iconic house from a popular TV show and explain its building style etc.. and did a copy-kat build like the Brady Bunch house or the Mama's Family house.

    • @sahm_and_bean
      @sahm_and_bean  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds lovely, but I'd need some help picking exactly what would be best because I am extraordinarily illiterate when it comes to anything pop culture. I have heard of the Brady Bunch at least 🙈

      The Brady Bunch house I think would probably resonate with a lot of older players (I'm 40) and the younger people who are bringing back the 70's vibe. The best part is it's actually a REAL house not just a set so if you do a google search for it, you'll get the Hollywood address to look at the street view and obviously there's tons of photos and video available of what the inside looks like. I believe it's also a split level and has a lot of the same features of this build. I think it would be a really cool concept though for a build collection: "famous TV houses."
      I went to the Gallery and did a search for "Brady Bunch" just to see what comes up and there's one lot by "brenlee" that only has about 2300 downloads and it looks kinda like it on the outside but you can read the description. It's from 2019 and the person said the inside doesn't match and they couldn't do bunk beds (was before the kids pack came out?). I checked out a few of the others and they're lame. If you made a historical video (could you include clips of the TV show as reference points?? I don't know how that works with copyright.) you'd literally be the only one in the gallery with something legit. You said you went to film school so maybe this idea might be something that could really get you a lot of traction for your channel. Just a thought! I know it would be a lot of work to get all the clips together and everything.

      Well when you put it like that, it totally sounds like something right up my alley. I enjoy deducing floorplans from redfin listings, and I definitely agree it could get some traction if I do it right 💙💙 I'll definitely make a note of this and see if I can find enough references 🤔 "Can I Build a House From a TV Show I've Never Seen? A Sims 4 Challenge" lol

    Not only was able to follow along and make a functional (but heinous in appearance, ha ha) split level, the video was worth it just to learn the greater than/less than trick on reversing directions on things. I'm a left/right reversing maniac now! 🙂

      It's possible the level differences are not severe enough or too severe. Try raising or lowering one side and see if it connects then?

      @@sahm_and_bean btw I tried the changing the fountain height as @dzizs03 suggested. (because the gap in the ceiling was bugging me. I did have to change the wall height for the doorway to fit in the kitchen/office area (which changed the wall height for the first floor, but it worked.

    Curious if you could try split level Muskoka cottage? The sort that have boat houses 2 storey windows?

    • @sahm_and_bean
      @sahm_and_bean  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for watching! Unfortunately we can't make a true two story window, but if you remove part of the second story floor you can create a similar look by placing one window right at the top of the first floor and one right at the bottom of the second. If you try to have one window overlap the two levels it'll just clip :(

    I’m sitting on the patio of a house just like this, lol. It’s just my luck that the two most important houses to me, both have major features that can’t really be replicated in sims. One being my parents’ 1973 split level, the other being a 1868 Victorian mansion with a wing that has a lower wall height than the rest of it. (15’ down to 9’).

      Now that we have platforms I can at least build a couple of my childhood homes properly, but we're talking of a difference of a couple of steps. Not 6 ft. That's pretty big 😅

    Hi there, I know it's been a while since you posted this, but i need help-- around 11:40, you place a half wall in the front against the foundation with no issue, but when i attempt the same thing the trim for the half wall gets raised a block up so that there is a gap between the wall and the trim. Any idea how to remedy it?

    • @sahm_and_bean
      @sahm_and_bean  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you draw it into place or move it? I can't think of what I'd do to fix it aside from draw it away from the foundation then move it into place. Could just be a lovely new bug 😀

      @@sahm_and_bean There is so many different types of split levels home designs! My mother's house is a back to front split which is a walk in to the living room. Half stairs going up to kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms. Half stairs going down to garage and lower level with a media room/half bath. Then another half stairs from the lower section leading to the basement. The kitchen over looks the living room.
      I've tried making my mom's house several times haha, but I think I can finally doing it after watching your tutorial! Thanks!

    How in the world do you get the camera to face head-on or Level like that while you're building. I know about Hotkey G, but it doesn't work while building.
