OMG, so glad I found this video, I literally tried everything to get my Dyson to work again, I finally gave up and was about to purchase a new head when I stumbled on this video, I decided to give it a try, so like the above comment I had to head out to Home Depot to purchase a T8 screwdriver (never heard of a T8 screwdriver until this video) came home took it apart just like you showed and wallah there it was a huge ball of hair wrapped around the spindle, after excitedly removing it and put it back together I squeezed the trigger and what a joy to see my brush spin again, my wife laughed at me too see my glee over a vacuum cleaner, lol, THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO, I learned something new today, what a joy, Thanks again, take care.

You are my hero. I ordered the screw driver and pulled out a huge ball of dog hair. I had phoned the Dyson helpline several times and they assured me that I would not be able to get at the hair and that I needed a new head at nearly £60. Thank you so much.

THIS is why TH-cam exists! Thank you for this gem. It saved us hundreds of dollars. A little difficult to find the proper screwdriver, but that was it. Sure enough it was the hidden hair that melted and stopped the roller working.

Hi there, I just want to say THANK YOU!! You've just saved us £60 for a replacement head from Dyson. When I explained the problem to them, their only comment was to say that we needed to replace the head (after only 2 years). I couldn't bring myself to buy the replacement as it seemed ridiculous that it could have 'broken' after such a short space of time - and guess what? After watching your video, I did exactly what you said, and you were totally right - the only problem was a bunch of hairs! I feel so empowered now and will definitely try to fix anything first before I replace items in the future! xxx

Thank you so, so much. I was literally looking online for a replacement motor head when I stumbled upon your video. I spent an hour taking the whole head apart trying to fathom why the motor wouldn't turn. I didn't realise the black spiral bit came off. Lo and behold when I took it off there was a HUGE chunk of burnt hair. Pulled it out and I now have a nicely working Dyson again. I can't thank you enough, you literally saved me £59 for a replacement head. The Dyson help page said I needed a new part. Such a quick and easy fix, literally took me 3 minutes. Bless you.

Was I pleased or was I pleased when I checked on TH-cam and found your video! I had cleaned every part of the head of my Dyson V6, all to no avail I might add and could not understand why the brush had stopped spinning! Being a lady in her early 40’s and forever having to pay out money when electrical items go wrong I really didn’t want to have to take the vacuum cleaner to a Dyson service centre knowing only too well the huge bill I was likely to receive from them. I followed your super informative video and found a ball of hair exactly where you explained the problem would likely be. The way you explained each part of the repair was excellent, well done I now have my V6 up and running smoothly again 😀 I knew the screwdrivers and pliers would come in handy one day!! 😂

Kudos. Got it in one. This video sorted out our problem with the V6 brush bar. Dismantling it as in the video the plug of hair was exactly in the same place. The heat generated was so much that the hair behind the capstan was blackened. Note to others, root out all the hair inside - the blackened looked like some kind of rubber seal until I poked at it as it didn't look quite right.
After cleaning it out thoroughly I gave the area s bit of silicone spray lubricant and assembled. It works like new again. Such a simple repair. Thank you so much.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was thrilled to find this video which didn’t just put down the “brush bar non-rotation” to blockages or hair in brush bar area.
I’d just washed the filter before trying this ( it’s still drying) so I had to test it out, after your fix without the filter! Yay, it worked -and you sir are a legend. I used a jewellers screwdriver, as it was all I could find that would fit. I’ll have to purchase the correct torx s/driver now!

Great video. I used pliers to remove the rotating part because I was worried about there being a belt behind it. However the belt is still hidden so if you’re struggling to remove it, you’re fairly safe jamming a flathead screwdriver in and prizing it out. So much hair jammed down there, thin pliers are actually very useful for pulling the hair out too. Thanks for posting this.

Just fixed by DYSON V6 by following this demo, just cost me the price of a T8 screwdriver, thrilled. The only tip I could add is because I couldn't get the spindle off, I wrapped it in a thin piece of rubber and jiggled it and pulled it off gently with a pair of pliers. Thanks for solving my issue, hair behind spindle, works a treat now !

Mate I owe you a beer! Totally worked for me! There was hair all in the bearings that I managed to cut with some small scissors and then hover out. No wonder it wasn't working!

Easy when you know how! So big big thank you for your video. Used a bent flat head screwdriver (can't recall how it got bent so badly but it has become such a useful thing to have!) to gently ease the spinning part out and it came out easily. An old pair of tweezers got all the hair out. A small 'washer' came out so careful not to throw that away with the offending hair! Again... Thank you!

Thank you. This was the fix I needed. I have long hair, so I have a feeling I will need to do this often. Thanks for taking the time to share this.

I too am very thankful I found this video. This is EXACTLY what was wrong with my V6! I had to buy a T8 screwdriver, but certainly glad I don't have to replace my Dyson! Thanks for the great instructions! :-)

Yeheyy! I fixed mine too! It took me 2months trying to figure it out how to fix the issue. Thank you so much for showing us the right direction. I almost throw my dyson.
