This video addresses this issue and most likely will work for you too.

2023 and your video is still helping people--this was exactly the issue with mine. It must have had some schmutz in it because after I poked it with a knife, it started working again just with the battery door.

This solution did not work for me. I did some research and found out that there are 3 such switches which can stop the camera to turn on. 1 for the battery( as shown in this video), 2 in the mem card slot and 3 in the lens. I tried putting the sd card and tried putting a little pressure on the cover and it worked!! I hope this helps...😇

I saw a blog by Canon techs who advised to replace the time/date battery, remove the regular battery, memory card and lens. My 50D takes a size Li 2016 battery. I replaced the button battery, installed the card, battery and lens’s and it turned on. I did note my Canon batts 2 out of 3 were bad even though I had charged them up. To my dismay, my lens AF/MF was not working. I think the gears are broken.

You right about the micro switch in the sd card slot, in my case was the sd card I was using SanDisk Ultra Plus 80MB/s SD XC V10 1 Class 10 64GB something about the card measurements were not activating the micro switch in the card slot, I must mention that in the same card I had installed Magic Lantern but never had a problem until recently, i doubt it has something to do with Magic Lantern software, then I use a different card one with less capacity PNY 16GB SD HC 50MB/s I1 Class 10, turn off the camera remove the battery, insert the battery back, insert the less powerful card, turn on the camera on and yes the camera will turn on just fine problem solved. If I use the same SanDisk card again the camera will go back to the same old problem of refusing to turn on, so definitely something about that SanDisk card.

I had the same problem with my Canon 70D. I recently tried using mine and tried everything I could think of and even contacted Canon and they wanted $500. just lo look at my camera.
