CANON 70D WILL NOT POWER ON
THIS IS PART 2, I WAS ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM ON MY OWN.
    I FIXED MY OWN ISSUE.
WHAT WOULD HAVE COST ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS BY SENDING IT TO CANON, I WAS ABLE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AND MANY OTHERS MAY HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY MAY HAVE SPENT MONEY UNNECESSARY. I ONLY SPENT $6 AND SOME CHANGE... SO LETS CALL IT $7 TO FIX THIS ISSUE.
I DID NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE CAMERA APART BUT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DO SO, I SAW SOMETHING THAT I SUSPECTED WAS THE ISSUE. I PLAYED AROUND WITH THIS SWITCH OR SOME TYPE OF CENSOR OR LATCH.
SOMETHING LIKE THIS WAS SO SIMPLE TO RESOLVE BUT COULD HAVE COSTED ME ALLOT OF MONEY. THE PART IS TOO DELICATE. NOW THAT IM AWARE OF THIS, I CAN BE MORE CAREFUL, BECAUSE I WAS ALREADY VERY CAREFUL WITH ALL OF MY CANON PRODUCTS.... BUT THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER EXPECTED THIS TO BE THE PROBLEM, I SAW THIS HOLE EARLIER BUT DIDNT KNOW WHAT IT WAS FOR... SO AS I WAS ABOUT TO TAKE OFF THE BATTERY COVER, I NOTICED THAT IT HAD SOME TYPE OF CONNECTOR THAT WOULD GO INTO THE HOLE (SQUARE) SO I SIMPLY PUT A PEN IN THE HOLE AND THERE WAS A SWITCH OR SOMETHING, I PUT THE SWITCH IN THE CENTER. I PUT THE BATTERY IN THE CAMERA AND THEN IT CAME ON.
ONE OF THE VIEWERS CALLED IT A MICRO SWITCH

I was desperately searching for a solution of the same problem that happened today.
You, Mr. Robinson, saved my day... infact, much more - time and money.
I owe you :) Thank you so much!

You are a life saver!!! I had EXACTLY the same problem with my Canon 7d Mk2. It just died on me - no power - nothing! I phoned the nearest Canon repair centre and they said it would cost me a minimum of £180 (UK pounds) for them to look at it and fix it. I have just watched your video, found a small screwdriver that allowed me to move that latch and suddenly the camera works!
You have just saved me $236 (using today's exchange rate)
    :) :) :) :)

OK, this is driving me nuts! Your suggestion worked, and I wrote the comment above. Then I turned the camera on again and I was back to square one, with nothing happening! I tried doing the same thing only now it's not working. I've not been able to get the camera on again :(

Thanks a million, I have a Canon EOS 30D and the same problem existed. The camer had not been dropped or damaged in any way. After view your video I found the same problem with that small tab on the battery door. It took me lees than two minuets to repair. I did nothing with the Storage card. Absolutely amazing.

EOS 70D err 20 - (my error sounded like a shutter problem) - Works now! Thanks to your video Christian! I did a combination of both your "battery slot tip" and tried Romil's comments (3 such switches...). I don't know how, or what happened, but it works now - Thanks for posting!
    Romil Pahwa

This solution did not work for me. I did some research and found out that there are 3 such switches which can stop the camera to turn on. 1 for the battery( as shown in this video), 2 in the mem card slot and 3 in the lens. I tried putting the sd card and tried putting a little pressure on the cover and it worked!! I hope this helps...😇

Wow!!!! This video was INCREDIBLE!!! My camera fell from a tripod and wouldn't work anymore, so I checkout your video and the problem wasn't exactly like yours, but the answer was in the same spot!
During the fall the little piece of of the battery door broke off (the piece that holds down the little piece)
So I just stuck a piece of toot pick in there, closed the battery door and VOILA!!!!

i am trying my luck to push my entrance in the world of photography and bought an eos70d that didn't turn on, after opening the back and removing the Mobo, i noticed that this part was missing while the teardown videos i saw always had it, and i mean, completely miss it... now i tested the 2 poles at the bottom of the battery to check if current would pass through them and the result was negative, now i wonder if this little guy acts as some sort of connector for both poles, or if the problem is elsewhere

Thought I would add an update. I have been problems with the built in flash popping up. Like it would not. Tried the "fix" on the hot shoe posted in another video but it did not work for me. I've been using my Speedlight Flash on the camera, and it works fine with that. After doing the fix posted in this video, it solved the 70D problem of not turning on AND my pop up flash is now working. So that little switch that gets joggled, may help those having that problem as well :)

My 40D has been showing the topside LCD display OK, but the large back LCD display stays dark, and when I press the shutter button the topside display flashes "busy" and the shutter never fires. Autofocus still works on the lenses, and the flash comes up and flashes if it's in the right mode, but the shutter never flips and no picture is actually taken. I've tried 2 batteries, 3 cards, 3 lenses, and all sorts of other fixes that have worked for some people. Your video about the switch gave me hope because the opening for my switch was very dusty, but thorough cleaning and checking the position of the switch arm didn't fix my problem. Glad yours is working though!

I had a similar issue with an 80D. The camera would not power on unless I applied pressure to the grip by the SD slot. There is a sensor switch right when you open the sd slot. I used an ex-actor blade and pried lightly so that is was centered in the slot. Sure enough now when I close the Slot the camera switches back on and stays on. Stupid design. Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting your video, i just managed to fix the same issue I think if the Canon is banged in anyway that spring clip pops up and causes the camera to not switch on. So just in case guys avoid bumps and drops to your canons.

This confuses me a bit. How often does it get these kinds of error? I never experienced any error with my 5D classic and I'm worrying that I will have to spend a lot of money to fix these errors once I buy the 70D. Any advice? Thanks in advance guys!!

      Christian,
Has this happened to you again since this fix?
I'm out of my warranty and this has happened again! Any word on Canon offering a solution?
Wondering if a battery grip would solve the problem?

Hi i don't understand the system to fix the problem... Only Remove the screws?

  • @DonnyLB
    @DonnyLB 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I think this is the problem with mine. It turns on when I use a small screwdriver to press it down but the door won't press it down enough. What did you do to actually get it to work when you close the door?

+Sergei Khan the camera that I have will don't work without the battery cover. I can't speak of the camera that you have. but your issue is not related to this video. you need to first get the correct cover first then go from there.

I've tried removing everything, holding the shutter to discharge the board and even your tip and I still can't get my 70D to turn on. I was getting error code 80 and my camera was freezing. Now it won't turn on. Have you found any other solutions? Is there a watch battery somewhere than can be replaced like in some older cameras?

Man, if this works. I'm your new best friend. LOL. I just called a camera repair and it would cost $200 + . I was told it probably is the mother board. But haven't taken it in yet. I noticed that the button you are talking about was not in the center. A bobby pin will work as well to move it to the center. Regardless of the out come I THANK YOU!
