    My kitties are free roaming and i just keep dry food on a plate. I give them wet food in mornings. I leave water bowls everywhere lol. My cats even play in the pool with my pack of dogs. 😅

    I disagree with #2, I've never had a cat overindulge if it always has access to food,. Just like #1 its rooted in natural traits to graze, eating more frequently in small amounts, and are good at self regulating unless you intervene by controlling their feeding times and access to food, then you are actually training them to gobble it down and become food obsessed from having it withheld.

    My Kitties and Corgis are ALL free fed and no one is fat and I had a male Siamese that lived over 21. His sister was over 15, she was not really his blood sister. I rescued her when she was maybe 2 months old, some boys were throwing her against a tree. When she was front wards she would use her claws and "stick" , back wards and she would fall, and they would laugh. When I saw it I told them how horrible they were and I took her.
    I now have a pair of twin female Snowshoe Siamese that I am convinced the first ones sent to me, because I missed them so much.

    I have used the none processed cat food, but, I stop giving buying fish as it seemed upsetting the digestion. All the bowls are washed in hot water, rinsed and placed in dishwasher everyday. No standing food. Fresh bowl and food and water each meal.

    My cat's all-time favourite is a nice crunchy baby rat, of which he finds a lot. Full of protein, iron and calcium, with roughage and crunchy bones full of calcium. He's nearly 14 30 March) and the vet says he has astonishingly good teeth for age, no doubt thanks to the crunching.

    I do most right ♡ yay. Always water away from food. I have set times, no free feeding. Im going to play before feeding now. I give all sorts of food flavors. I didnt know about dry food being bad until recently. I feel bad for our old man. We have 5 more now though so glad I learned & hes always been a great water drinker ♡

    It's fine to feed them special milk that is made especially when it doesn't have any lactose my oldest is lactose intolerant and it was fine and cheese if it's the same with no lactose but as for food I have been ordering from katkins and they have been so good on that it's well worth the money and the extras you can get like the Damon and chicken freeze dried chunks and food topping but the most important thing is it's grain free and it gently cooked unlike the store foods the rubbish that is filled with is dreadful only the best for my boys and I nearly forgot the litter I get the traffic lights cat litter and it's amazing it helps you know if there is any concerns you need to speak to your vet about I couldn't be without my cleaver boys they are doing so well on their food and the company is so supportive as well ❤❤

    I have had 6 cats over the past thirty years. I have always had their water bowls beside their food bowls. It didn't stop them from drinking. I must say incorporating a cat fountain which i never knew existed two years ago, has been a great way to encourage my two boys to stay hydrated. I'm not sure how they'd react if i moved the cat fountain to another location. Cats are creatures of habit and routine. 😸

    • @dunxy
      @dunxy หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe that shelter is sponsored or has the food provided free or very cheap? Fancy feast for one is junk, its full of filler and bad ingredients. As far as their dry food goes i do not know because ive not looked at the ingredients for ages but i have little faith in the chances of it being quality, i only feed a tiny % of my cats diet as dry food anyway, and then its only Royal Canin, its expensive but they get so little (just for dental hygiene) the daily cost is minimal. For processed wet food i feed only Dine (Sheba in other countries) because it does have good ingredients and in our case here in Australia is made locally, i also feed cooked and raw meat of various types.@@Itbillie

      I had 2 Scottish fold cats I free fed Purina dried foods all their lives both lived to 17. They where indoor cats the only health problems they had was due to their breed, no kidney problems at all. They were never vaccinated after their first ones as kittens not wormed for years, I think not putting chemicals in them helped with their longevity. Plus being indoor cats.

    One other point this video doesn't address is carrageenan. It's in both human and cat food as a thickener. It's a combination of various red seaweeds. Apparently, it's associated with digestive troubles (intestinal inflammation) and possibly cancer. You might want to avoid that if listed in the ingredients (both for yourself AND your pet!).
    I also I didn't see in this video - cats prefer MOVING water for the same reason as wanting water AWAY from their food source.
    Another thing to look out for are food recalls. Pet food tends to have more recalls than human food (and have you noticed how many recalls there have been on human food lately?!). Very few companies have little or no recalls on them. If the company doesn't care about accidentally killing me (or my fur baby), then I don't care about that company! Definitely should look at recall history before choosing a food for your cat or dog, too.

      It depends on the weight they already are, there age and how active they are. But you can Google this. There are calculators out there so you can work it out. For example 1 of my cats is 17 yrs old, 6.3kg and overweight. So I'm advised to give him 128g a day.
      Or you can work it out yourself. 2-4% of their ideal body weight.

      The kitten milk you buy in stores has the lactose removed so, no it's not bad, but it's not helpful either. Cats don't need milk once weened from their mothers' milk. Water is much better for them.

      @@julieharrison4439 I agree water is best If they will drink it, some cats may not like to drink water and if they will drink pet milk its probably a good idea if your not feeding a high % of wet food. I feed mostly wet and have a fountain (with fancy filtration)for my adult that she seems to use (honestly never seen her but i have to fill it up all the time!) and stops her drinking out of the sink because she simply hates drinking water from bowl regardless of type, size or freshness! I do give pet milk to my small kitten currently but that is only short term, until hes socialized and able to access the fountain.
