My cat was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease seven years ago. I immediately stopped giving her kibble and started feeding her low carb high protein diet. I sought out the best canned foods and also boiled chicken breast for her. She recently passed at the age of 16 but it wasn't from ckd. Changing her diet led her to live a long healthy life.
Thanks for. Sharing advice. I always wondered abt chicken breast but out Kitty whose 10 now is so picky if she doesnt want to eat she wont even if its chicken breast 🙄😁 but wet food she likes. Ur Kitty lived for 16 and 16 years is a long life ❤
This Dr saved my cat's life. She was dying of CKD . One day, I noticed she had a huge lump in her urethra. I put a cup of ACV into warm water. It was a Rubbermaid bin. I put her in up to her chin and began to massage the area. She was in the water for 40 minutes. I noticed the area where I was massaging the lump it was getting smaller. I felt a sandy, grainy substance in my hand ,she began purring. I stopped all dry food, and she ate grain free performatrin wet food. She lived 8 yrs longer. She was 21. Thanks to this man.
@Jesusdied4allofus Buy the large cans of Performatrin grain free wet food. It's cheaper to buy xl cans. You can freeze in ice cube trays ,thaw overnight in fridge for next day. Or buy chicken liver , beef liver , butcher, or grocers. If you're on a budget, I put 5 XL carrots in a glass cake pan with peppers, celery, with 1 -3 cups water with veggies, and blend it with all well cooked chicken liver, chicken breasts, chicken thighs beef is fine too. [ rice long grain],is OK for healthy cats, no because its hard on their kidneys, and [ salt substitute = potassium chloride. Puree it and freeze . You'll save a lot of money. For kidneys, leave out rice . Pumpkin puree is good for cats, even when sick. No potatoes, no sweet potatoes. Put veggies into blenders with cooked meat and[ vegetable liquid always keep that] .Pepsid AC, DMSO , Collidial silver. are things I've also used.
Thank you for this!!! I've been gaslight by 2 vets over the past 6 months. One of my males has a urinary blockage. He wouldn't touch the Royal Canin urinary food they sent me home with. I found N&D and eventually got both my cats on raw. Never looking back, they are so much healthier than they were when they were kittens. One of my cats unfortunately now has resorbative lesions on his teeth, this is also due to being in kibble. For the past 4 months they have been on raw eating 3-4 times a day, I also leave freeze dried raw out for them if they want to snack. They don't even use their water fountain anymore. The vets have told me I will kill my cats feeding them raw as I am going to give them salmonella. When I asked them why a cat needs soy, corn and grains they all told me "because the company studies this". I am glad more and more people are taking about this. Thank you

I have never fed my cat dry cat food. I've always fed him Fancy Feast cans. He's never had any health problems nor is he overweight. In May he'll be 20 yrs old. It's expensive but I'm saving in veterinary bills.
You can always do meat chucks, fish or chicken. Freeze for 7 days. It actually may be cheaper as a 40-50% meal replacer (cans and kibble still provide important nutrients and stuff like taurine).
Frozen Tilapia sold in grocery stores. We bake then strip the meat and add peas and carrots. I also give a handful of good quality kibble just in case there's a micro nutrient we're missing. We have 2 cats, 5 and 8 years old. Very healthy and clean teeth.

My cat had horrible urinary problems on dry kibble, my vet suggested exploratory surgery and prescription kibble 🙄 switching to wet food fixed the urinary problems for good!!
I am Mortified by what you said about dry cat food and what I'm doing to my cat!!! Thank you for all the info you've given! I'll be changing up my cats diet Immediately! :)
Three months ago, I have cat had jaundice, he was hospitalised for 1 week but his condition didn’t even improve. So, I asked the vet to bring him home and take good care of him by myself. I bought the prescribed medicine from the vet and administered it by myself. He cannot eat by himself. He was too weak. Then, I started boiling chicken breast, carrots, chayote, potatos and pumpkin. I ground it in the grinder and force fed him. Luckily, he started to show progress on his health and after two weeks of my constant trying to make him survive and patience. He survived and he’s weight went back to it’s normal and he can eat by himself. When I brought him to the vet, the vet was amazed how much he made progress from 1.45kg to 3.50kg in just span of 1 month of his recovery. The vet applauded my patience and dedication. Now, he’s living his best life and survived. 😊
That's incredible! Your dedication and care made such a difference for your cat. It's heartwarming to hear how much progress he made under your watchful eye. Well done on his recovery-he's lucky to have you!❤️
I adopted a cat off someone who didn't want it, they didn't understand it, thought it was too much of a trouble maker. I quickly noticed certain things, having lived with cats all my life. I noticed he seemed to scavenge for food around the garbage, even if he had 'food' in his dish. I noticed he would sometimes appear to have stomach aches, and would often cough up hairballs. Eventually, he lost his appetite completely and started refusing to come inside. He kept going off into the woods and wanting to be left alone. Fortunately I figured out what was going on, and it took about a year of back and forth vet visits and enama, before I found the right vet. An X-ray of his stomach showed that his intestines were packed, one end of the cat to the other, entirely, with rock hard dry feces... I had to take him to a specific clinic where they did day and night treatment. Fluids and enamas to break down and remove it from inside him. The next thing going forward, was preventing this from happening again. So far, a year later, he's doing well. But I had so little to go on. This was mostly through my own good judgement and paying close attention to the cat. I got a brush for him, to remove as much shedding as possible. He enjoys the feel of being brushed and hairballs haven't been an issue since. So I recommend one of these brushes to whoever, and of course, no dry food. That was the main thing. No more dry food. His diet now is canned wet food, but I also had to figure out how to mix miralax in with his food, every day. It's been a challenge but his energy is different and he's a much happier cat, very well behaved. I try to give him this powdered stool softener with food a couple times a day. If anyone wants to know how exactly I mix his food, I don't mind sharing that. But this comment was longer than I meant it to be. It's a tough situation to be in especially when you're just on your own with it.
When you say raw what all do you feed your cat? I do mine a lot of wet food but it’s expensive. I tried out some fresh sardines in water and he ate that up!
@@samanthapayne6170 I cant comment for Heather but i buy raw pet mince (theres 3 types, Chicken, Chicken&Kangaroo and Kangaroo, obviously outside of Australia youre not going to find kangaroo, but i imagine alternatives exist) and its cheaper per serve than the (quality...) processed wet food i also feed at under $1 per serve.
What raw foods did you start with. I have 3 and one of the ladies has had a really sensitive stomach and vomits on occasion. I would really like to try her on raw

Since seeing your videos I switched off of dry food to home cooked chicken turkey and beef liver. I also add in the instinct raw freeze dried as a treat. I use your ground turkey recipe as well. What a change from Friskies and purina pro plan. No more vomiting, far more energy and beautiful poops! Thanks for all the info sir!
Don't forget Purina and many other companies are having issues with animals dying from eating their foods. And what you just described as the symptoms is exactly what has been reported happening to pets all over the USA.
I don't know if my cat is lazy or if he doesn't like chewing wet cat food. He crunches his kibble and seems to drink enough. He will only lap at wet food and leave any shreds or chunks of meat. Any ideas about what moist food I can use to replace kibble??
I’ve been considering getting my first cat ever, and I’m SO GLAD I’ve been watching your videos so I won’t kill them with poor food choices and bad veterinary information!
My 7 year old cat has had eye problems for around 6 months. I was told she had small cysts on the inside of her eyelids and have been given antibiotics and then steroisd eye drops. Another vet said they were small warts and she should undergo a procedure to test the warts and remove them but this didn't happen as another vet who we saw a lot with our dog and who I do trust said it wasn't necessary. We have been told now to put the steroid drops in every 2 to 3 days. Surely we shouldn't keep using steroid on her eyes for so long. I am very worried as her eyes are still bothering her.Thank you
I mean kibble is fine. Most of my indoor cats live into their 20s. Just play with them more. Read the ingredients and where the food is made to avoid melamine contamination. The best kibble is has meat as the first ingredient and good stuff like eggs within the top 5. Then when they get older and start losing their teeth you can switch to wet palette. I feed the younger ones with frozen fish, steamed veggies, goat milk, chicken bits or meat chucks (frozen for 7 days) as treats so just to add to quality health points as they develop. Honestly you can buy 3lbs of tilapia for cheap and it's better than temptation treats that has a bunch of corn meal in it.

And yet I had a cat 15 years which ate mostly kibble. Shiny black fur. Wasn't fat. My cat now is probably better not eating kibble since it seems to make her fat. Yet even the decent wet food has added sugar content.
I am so grateful my cats’ veterinarian is as honest as you. Thank you for informing cat parents about this! My cat was in catheter twice because of urinary problems. He’s not eating dry cat food anymore for a year now and he became a happy cat. He’s not stressed about going to his litter box frequently. His coat is better and he gained weight!
My cat eats boiled chicken and love's the baked salmon. I also give her Sheba to. Lots of water always. she has a history of UTI, but I switched to the upper diet, no problems now.
I'm in the UK, we have Sheba here too and have fed it to my cat who will be 10 yo in March. She's always been small and slim. She likes Sheba. Which specific Sheba do you buy.? It's just that she's so fussy. I have to keep buying different wet brands in rotation as she'll eat one for a couple of days then stop eating it. I do feed her kibble too I just leave a small bowl out each day because she's so fussy with the wet food, but I will stop the kibble now. She always has fresh water available. I recently bought some chicken breast and cooked it with a bit of water in aluminium foil in the oven, never thought to just boil it. I suppose the foil would not be a good idea, chemicals might go into the food. Will try again and boil it, she does like cooked chicken breast. I have been buying cooked chicken breast pieces in the little trays from the Supermarket, but they have additives and salt in I suppose. I'll try her with the Sheba again as she hasn't had it for a while. She likes having "something new" she won't stick to one food.
Thank you for your honesty!! Our tabby lived with the pain of diabetes 20 years ago because I didn't know then the dangers of kibble. A vet's assistant in Fallbrook, CA told me and I then transitioned him to raw. It eliminated the need for insulin shots, but it was already too late and he walked around gingerly. We could tell he was in pain. Argh! Our current feline gets antibiotic-free raw meat and is thriving. He does love to steal some grated organic carrot bits off our pup's bowl every afternoon though. 😊
Somehow , those of us that have spent YEARS studying PROPER human nutrition , just KNEW what you said in this video was TRUE !!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this information and helping us feed our cats a truly nutritious and safe diet for their metabolism and dietary needs - THANK YOU !!!!

Ten months ago I had three chronically ill (2 cats, 1 dog) and one old cat failing, on very expensive specific dry kibble, one for each illness. Plus vet checks, medication, and diapers for urinary leakage. Now, ALL chronic illnesses are gone. No vet visits because they are healthy. No medications. Raw foods, WHOLE raw foods. 👍🏼
@@lindazuba I buy beef, chicken, salmon, chicken hearts and gizzards, freeze it into daily packages. Sardines are the only canned fish, never tuna. I add psyllium for roughage. I use eggs, separated for the whites to the two younger cats and the dog, and the yolk goes to the old lady cat I'm trying to fatten up. I use my pressure cooker to make bone broth, chicken, beef or pork bones, and when I have enough bones fish. I either cut it into small pieces or put it in the magic bullet. They are fed 3 times a day and about as much as.... I'm no good at measurement, so about the size of a mouse 🤣. Monthly costs are about $100 per pet, about the same as the specialty kibble, but no other costs 👍🏼. It took about ten days to make the switch from kibble to raw. I've tried store bought raw for convenience, however, two of my cats react to it. The only inconvenience is preparing three times a day, which means I have to be here.... It's worth it to have healthy critters. If I'm missing anything, let me know. 😁
I’m having a really hard time just comprehending what to make for not only my cat, who is overweight and very picky at texted and taste, there are my daughters two cats, and now a neighbor’s neglected cat that has adopted us! Buying packets of food, and or canned food is very expensive, I do buy it though, because of my slight brain damage I have a tough time even knowing how to start or what to get!
I live in Thailand. 20 years ago there were very good veterinarians here with the most necessary practice facilities. There was no dry food on the shelves. Now the practices look like private hospitals. Separate areas for selling dry food and flavored snacks for cats and dogs. Messages often come to the phone advertising the latest vaccines. I find that terrible and am now very sensitive to visits to the vet. The pharmaceutical and food industries have also taken over this area. Cats and dogs are carnivores. If you see the word flavor on the packaging - stay away
Really glad to know others are on to the whole pet food- pet insurance - big pharma scam. Veterinarians were GREAT 20 years ago. Now, as with human drs, good veterinarians are hard to find.
Thailand has one of the highest rates of rabies, I'm glad that they're pushing vaccination more aggressively. You need to stop being skeptical of what the authorities are doing just because some guy on TH-cam is selling you a conspiracy theory.
Decades ago when I was a kid, cats of my neighbours would routinely live beyond 20 years and at that time I don’t think they had dried food and it was rare that they would need to see a vet. As you hinted in your message, vaccination is also another highly questionable practice, not only in animals but humans too! I had very little experience in caring for cats until we took one in from a family who had already spent a huge sum of money at the vets to no avail. She was very sick at the time and would probably have died within days and could barely walk. All I did was change her food to a better quality of tinned food and feed her a boiled egg each day. Within a couple of days she showed improvement and within a week or two she was quite normal although it took a while longer for her to regain her full strength. 18 months on and she has not taken a single pill or injection, not seen a vet and seems very healthy. I did switch to kibble for breakfast and rotate between 2 or 3 different kinds. Tinned food in the evening. After watching this video I will definitely experiment and try to replace kibble with either more tinned food or perhaps something like chicken breast. I guess the key is to make gradual changes and as she is healthy there is no immediate need to do anything radical. One thing for sure - she really does seem to enjoy eating the kibble so perhaps it could still be used as an occasional snack or treat. I’ve heard from other cat owners who fed their cats on kibble without any issue but I wonder how high their standards are and what they consider to be a normal lifespan for a cat. Another thing my cat had was runny eyes and I was told by a neighbour that this is normal. But since my cat recovered, she no longer has runny eyes either so it obviously isn’t normal. Only occasionally does she have slightly runny eyes and this is usually during colder weather.
I was blessed to adopt a 2 yr old Norwegian Forest Cat from a shelter and vet said he was dehydrated, under weight and probably IBD. I started feeding him wet canned Blue Wilderness then changed to Hills SD IBD wet canned cat food and still his poo was terribly smelly until I add cooked ground turkey, beef, pork chops, chicken to his menu as well as cooked eggs and canned pumpkin purée. His poos are never stinky anymore and he is energetic and he loves his real meat. I give him omega 3s every other day and occasionally Blue wilderness duck/chicken treats. He joins me in the kitchen on cooking days. I prepare enough for 5/6 days stored in the refrigerator. I put out enough that he can eat when he feels like it. His weight is ideal too. His coat is healthy and beautiful too. When the wet canned HIll’s SD IBD is gone I may not be buying anymore. I only use it because it does contain higher levels of taurine. At $75 for 24 5.5 oz canned it actually does have some nutritional benefits. I bought the last December 19th and I still have 7 cans left that I add one can to the meat after I cook the meat of the week and egg. It lasts 5/6 days so the cost of the Hills SD IBD is being absorbed. The Blue Wilderness has carreagean in it so NO more of that for my little buddy. I make his meat into a pate by using my little grinder and add water to it. No urinary or poo issues. NEVER a smelly poo anymore. I have no information what my cat ate the first two years of his life. He was thankfully picked up as a stray by the cat police and was in bad shape physically. Shelter had him on dry kibble. He doesn’t even look like the same cat as he did then, but he was as sociable charming then as he is now. Please adopt from shelters!! There you can discover treasures!❤

Thank you. I have 3 cats that are indoor. I have over 50 outside that are strays. I feed them every day. I feed them boiled chicken with its water. They love it.
Boiled chicken is not enough you are missing a TON of ingrediants cats need. Zinc, copper, calcium, taurine....etc You are doing more harm than good. Take the time to do your research PLEASE.
I love that you cleared this up. I feed my cats 5 small meals a day about 1.25 - 1.5 oz or so each feeding, they are very active cats. A Mix of Raw and Wet, no gums, fillers or excessive supplements, and of course probiotic. They are so healthy and lean. Cats become obese eating such large meals at one feeding. This was so informative.

I went through this when I transitioned my two cats on to raw eight years ago. It's hard, but the first piece of advice I would offer you is be prepared to dish out some Tough love. And the first thing I would do is not win them off biscuits. Send them cold turkey. Yes there will be some up he will, and they will resist you the whole way. You have to stay firm, and you has to remember that you are in charge and you call the shots, not them. contrary to popular opinion, cats won't starve themselves. Eventually, they will come around when they are hungry enough. this tough love approach is how I transitioned my cats to raw. They have never looked back. My youngest one in particular bought me the whole way. But I stayed firm and resolute. Also, when you send them cold turkey from the biscuits, be sure that you remove every last biscuit from the house. They are good at hunting them out and smelling them out, you have to remove all of them. The manufacturers lace them with synthetic chemicals that interact with the pleasure receptors in a cat brain, so they do form addictions to them. This is why this cold turkey, remove every last biscuit from the house is the best way to go. Remember, they are drug addicts and so they will withdraw. But like I said, mine eventually came round. And they do because they won't starve themselves. Anyway… Good luck. Hope it all goes well.
I wish I had known this 3 years ago, before 3 of my cats died from kidney failure. It’s something I didn’t learn until it was too late. I greatly appreciate all the information you post here on TH-cam.it’s been a great help! Thank you so much!
After emergency surgery for my middle aged cat for a urinary stone blockage, I had him on the dry food for urinary health recommended by the vet. After two years with similar symptoms and no clear answer from the vet I officially transitioned him to wet food only, low carb. I hope he has a healthy long life ahead of him.
If you can afford it, a cat water fountain bowl is also really helpful as it encourages them to drink more water. They seem to prefer drinking water that flows and this might further reduce UTI's
Oh boy , opened my eyes for sure ! My cat is 20yrs old. Has mild hyperthyroidism, a heart murmur that's just started. I'll cut out the H.S.D dry stuff and get him on more wet and raw. Thank you

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. My son's 12 yr old cat was just diagnosed with thyroid disease and we haven't seen any improvement with the meds the vet has recommended.
Definitely if you can transition the cat to a raw food diet. Also, I would definitely recommend if you can, finding an integrative vet like Dr Jones, that can help you to mitigate the thyroid issues with diet, so supplements etc. Because what Dr Jones said about food also goes for pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceutical companies are the major sponsors of both human and veterinary medical curricular.

Hi Dr. I have learned so much from your channel. I have a very large farm cat I rescued and he is hungry all the time. He also gets uti’s often. I removed the Kibble about 30 days ago and he only gets boiled chicken I cook, salmon I cook and quality canned food on your recommendation list. Toby is already looking better. He’s still hungry a lot but not like he used to be. Thanks so much for all of your holistic wisdom and advice.
If you can afford it, consider looking into a cat water fountain bowl. Cats prefer to drink from water that's flowing, and the more water he drinks, the less chance of UTI's hopefully. He is lucky to have you
I’m a cat sitter in the UK and tell all my customers this, especially diabetic cats. But their vet advised them to use the vet recommended dry food and they won’t change.

Me too, I share all this information with people I know unwilling to change and they feed the low quality cat food. Yet I have many beautiful kitties and at one meal a few still get dry food. My soul kitties only get canned, raw or cooked
Dr Jones, I care for many kitty colonies outside (like thousands of other people who care for outdoor kittys). It's not possible to cut out dry food, simply because of the sheer number of kittys we care for. I try to buy the best of what's available where we are & to provide wet/fresh food a couple of times a week. Moreover, it's quite rural where we are & the kittys surely hunt. I leave the dry food in dispensers, almost as back up - just in case I'm not able to get to a colony for a day or two, or if some of the colony come after feeding time. Finally, I always make fresh water available.
Don't worry about it. This is YT where a single 'expert' get a podium. Dry food might not be good for some cats, but for others it's fine. Also depends what the regulations are for pet food where anyone is. If the regulation is weak on human food, it's probably worse for pets. Some kibble is better than others, As I said in a comment further up I had a cat for 15 years which ate mostly kibble and now and again a bit of chicken or fish. No issues. My beloved cat who died a year ago aged 16 ate mostly wet food. Not much difference it age! Wet consumer cat food, even the good ones, have added sugar unless it's specifically mentioned that it doesn't. It's not great for teeth.
@@baronmeduseAlso, some cats tolerate certain kinds of food more than others. Mine can only really do pate for wet food. She either won’t touch, will only lick the broth, or will vomit shredded, etc. She can’t have too much chicken at a time either because she will vomit it.
I feel what you're talking about. My cat food bill is $300 a month for Friskies wet and dry. I couldn't imagine paying for Wellness or Instinct wet for every meal. My monthly bill would be $900 a month if I did that.
This. I tried to cook food for my cat following vet advices. She didn't touch it. As for wet food, we fed her some every evening but she only ever lick the sauce, and it there wasn't any sauce, she wouldn't touch it at all. The only thing she would actually eat was kibbles.
Hmmm, yes and no. I spent over $600 on my cat for kidney stones. So I figure I am going to spend it one way or the other if I have pets. I just another cat start getting sickly so I started wet food and once daily D.E. and he is good as new now. We went back to his regular dry diet with water added.
someone told me to think it this way "pay for their meds" or "pay for their health" the money you saved from feeding your pet kibbles/cheap wet foods will eventually go to their treatment, medications plus heartbreaks
I agree with all of this, but I rescued a cat that was free-fed kibble her whole life and refuses ANY kind of wet food! She starves herself rather than eat it. And it’s not that she’s picky. I don’t think she recognizes it as food! I’ve tried everything. Help!
Thanks for this information. I have a healthy cat that just turned 13. I've been giving him dry cat food at the recommendation of the vet since I adopted him at the age of 9. I'm switching him to wet cat food, and hope to enjoy his company for many years to come!
I am so glad I discovered this truth back in 2016. I can't believe it is nearly 8 years since I started feeding my two cats raw meat. they are mother and daughter, and at the time, they were six and four years old respectively. At the time, my mother cat had dental work done, and the vet who did her dental work was a dental specialist, and she said that it would be the first of many dental but there was something I could do about it. She told me about raw feeding, and referred me to a local raw food supplier near where I live in New Zealand. and so, I transitioned them both onto a fully raw diet. My advice to anyone doing this is that you must go completely cold turkey from the biscuits. One thing I found in my research is often there are synthetic chemical put into these biscuits that trigger The pleasure receptors in the brain, thus forming an addiction to the biscuits. Not to mention how when they eat these biscuits, their sugar levels spike and then drop again and they keep needing to eat the biscuits and snack on them to try and get that sugar spike. Fast forward to 2024. My mother cat has not had any dental work since until now because her teeth have always been healthy. They have always been fed chicken necks as well as the raw meat, awful, and muscle meat as well. and so, my daughter cat has turned 12 nearly 2 weeks ago and still has a full head full of teeth. My mother cat recently had some dental work done, and before the operation we did bloodwork on her. Her bloods came back perfectly normal. Kicking 14, she has no kidney, liver, heart disease, thyroid issues or diabetes. Her blood cell count and iron levels were also normal. The dental work she had to have done was not due to rotten teeth. I can't remember the name of the disease, but she has a disease that is genetic and that cats develop with age, that result in the roots of the teeth starting to be reabsorbed into the jaw bone. We initially took her to the vet because she was starting to refuse her bones, when she normally would eat her bones enthusiastically. And so we looked and found some gingivitis near a canine, and when we took her to the vet, they found that there was the beginning of an abscess around that canine because the canine was loose, because the root had been reabsorbed into the bone. The upshot of it was that she had four teeth taken out, and the vet wants to check every six months to see how her teeth are doing. but all four teeth that were taken out showed no signs of damage or decay except that they were missing their roots. They found the other three teeth when they did a dental x-ray. now, the daughter Kate, who just turned 12 a couple of weeks ago, it's also going to have to go on regular dental checkups as this condition is genetic. My point is, that when you feed cat what God designed them to eat, then it's not surprising that they are going to age gracefully, and they are going to show these sort of age related dental disease… Because they actually keep their teeth in their mouth because they don't rot. anyway… 5 1/2 years ago, I moved in with my partner. He had a cat that is a similar age to my daughter cat, but was fed biscuits until she pretty much hit double figures. Unfortunately, it was too late to reverse the damage that feeding these biscuits had done to her. Looking at her, she is so different to my mother cat. They are both a similar age, but the contrast is incredible! Both my mother and daughter cats are definitely an advertisement for raw feeding, and I caught it early enough where The damage done from biscuit feeding could be reversed. And it can be if you catch it early enough. by the way, I am feeding my mother cat canned food while she is recovering from her operation. Because it is soft and therefore she can eat it safely while she is convalescing. I will be putting her back on raw feeding once she is properly healed, but it's only for a season I believe. and I have also been supplementing said canned food with bone broth. Bone broth is excellent for giving to cats or dogs who are sick or convalescing from major surgery or injury. And to Off the raw feeding advertisement, are youngest cat is a cherry on the cake. We adopted him from the vet after we had fostered him and his two sisters as kittens. We adopted him when he was 12 weeks old. I hated feeding them the biscuits while we were there. Parents, but I grated my teeth and did it. However, as soon as we had taken our youngest cat sisters back to the vet and signed the paperwork that he was a cat, I was straight on the phone and learning how to raw feed the kittens. He has been raw fed since he was 12 weeks old, and he is the absolute epitome of feline health. Honestly, I cannot stress how important it is for both cats and dogs for them to eat what God designed them to eat. Neither Kit nor dogs were designed to eat biscuits. And I have found set for both species, having raw meat in their diet is the best for optimal health. Since we switched Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Korora feeding when we got her at age 4, and we dealt with all her rotten teeth from living on a biscuit diet in her old house, she hasn't looked back.
OMG thank you for this. Finally someone is talking about it. My cat was diagnosed with early stage ckd and diabetes. His diet had consisted mainly of dry cat food. I went to several vets and all of them suggested expensive and invasive procedures because that is the 'standard procedure'. Not one of them suggested dietary changes. At the vet hospital I met this guy by chance. He had been feeding his 4 cats a completely home cooked high-protein diet and was trying to spread awareness about the dangers of packaged pet food but the vets wouldn't take him seriously. I immediately changed my cat's diet to boiled chicken, wet food only and a herbal tonic. His urinary changes normalized considerably and his 'diabetes 'disappeared.
Since my cat died after suffering from cancer I feed my cats home cooked food. I use fresh quality meat and 🥦 veggies for them. How come I never thought of that.
@@ChristineDivinagraciaVS Thanks. I cook homemade cat food with same ingredients as yours. But instead of steaming,I make small pot of soup to get some broth for kitties to have lots of moisture. If I see lam heart or kidney at the supermarket I add one too. At the end, put the whole thing in the blender and divide into small portions and freeze.
I learned this decades ago and questioned my vet why don't cats die in the wild eating bones and fur, and he said the same thing about the moisture and that the fur makes the bones pass thru their system. I stopped dry food and went to canned and homemade - my indoor cats have lived to be in their mid twenties and no isssues like dry food cats had previously that died much sooner with chronic illnesses. Keep up the good work doctor!
Loved Murray! Always eating or giving out a beating. God bless😻💜 Will the webinar be sent out as a recording if we can't make it live? I've signed up. Ty Doc🙏😻
I have always said this! I do feed my cats dry and wet! But always a high end cat food! And I’m sure there are many out there who have asked the same questions, why is there so many cats and dogs getting all theses cancers renal failure , and other diseases these days ?? And I put it down to dry food! Also vaccinating too much!
I don’t vaxx my inside cats but panleocopa ( spelling) cat disease is running rampant here n I’ve seen sick cats on my porch n around my house,, I won’t vaxx again but I got scared after all my local rescue friends are seeing a big out break of it even inside cats,, we don’t wear shoes inside either as u can bring it in ur home on the bottom of your shoes
@BubbleBurster-nv1vl Quackery. Some vaccinations are essential, just not too many. In Europe the vet doesn't try to persuade you to get vaccinations all the time. In fact the veterinary college body overseeing them doesn't even recommend it. Also the comparison with humans is idiotic. You can't 'strengthen yourself' against polio or measles with any diet.
Wow, learning learning. I'm looking at 70 yo and I'd NEVER seen the health issues in pets like today. I had been feeding my senior dog homemade this last year which did make him more comfortable. He's passed and it's on to my cat. She's just a few years old, still good health but I'm giving away all dry kibble in the house. I have 2 turkeys in the freezer from the holidia sales. That's what I'll use. We thank you for the heads up.
Try as I might I can't get my older rescue cat off dry food! She was only fed Meow Mix until age 9 when I took over her care. She'd rather starve than eat a wet food! SO frustrating!
Thank you Dr Jones for your honesty, passion & ethics. So rare these days. My cat got hyperthyroidism from me feeding her from being a kitten, vet recommended dry kibble seafood flavour. Where did I buy it from every month? My vet because I am a great pet owner/carer. She died 2 yrs later from this disease. I confronted the vet with the fact I had fed her seafood flavour dry kibble from them and this looked like it caused the hyperthyroidism and the vet said "we always recommend a balanced diet." I said no-I bought the food from you every month for years and you never said one thing. I always visited with my guy friend in the apartment across from me and his cat in the hallway. One day I asked him why all of a sudden, his cat's fur was shiny and he was moving with energy. He had switched from dry food to wet canned BC made cat food. (Bought at a pet store) The cat was so much healthier, happier and energetic at 11 years old. Buy local made food-wet! Our pets in the 70's never had cancer. In the past decade my family has had 1 cat die from cancer in the gums, my other cat die from a cancer tumour under his tongue, and my tuxedo cat die from hyperthyroidism-all were pets fed life long vet food purchased at vet's office. Science Diet, Hills etc.
God bless you sir I have always cared for my cats health and believed something was wrong mostly with just dry catfood. You are helping cat lovers everywhere!
I see at the end of your video that you did recommend for people to make homemade food, with fresh meats. So you're not saying just to use canned food as I had thought. I have tried to make some homemade food here and there, but it's extremely hard to get cats to give it a chance that have been eating commercially made food for a lot of years. When you rescue animals that are sick it's usually because they've been eating the junk that you're warning against, but even though it's killing them it's hard to get them to convert. I need to look and see if you have a video with suggestions about how to do that.
I had that problem with two of my cats. At the time, the mother was six and the daughter for. The daughter is special needs, so it's like having an a cat with an intellectual disability. The first thing I did was I got rid of their biscuits. And when I say got rid of, I mean got rid of. I made sure that there was not one biscuit in my house. I purged the house of cat biscuits completely. If they have been on commercial petfood, get them onto a good quality canned. Usually they will eat that, especially if you don't offer them anything else. Cats won't starve themselves, and that's what I did to my two. And then, once they are eating the canned reliably, then start gradually adding a tiny little amount of the raw food. once they are reliably eating the canned with a tiny wee amount of the raw food, gradually increase the raw food, making sure they are eating the mixture reliably with each increase. Eventually, you get to a point where there is more raw and less canned, it's a gradual process. Eventually, the canned can be cut out completely. The hardest part of this transition is cutting out the biscuits. That can be the most turbulent, and that is when you have to be prepared to dish out some tough love. But eventually, you do get there. I got there with my special needs girl, and now, she won't eat anything except raw canned. I do have the mother, who will be 14 on Saturday, on a soft jelly beet canned food because she is recovering from surgery, but it is only for a season. At least though, the canned is moist. So even during your transition, at least once they are eating canned they are getting proper moisture content. It's just when you are cutting out the biscuits in that initial phase that you have to be tough. In the end, it was hard initially when I cut out the biscuits and it was a turbulent time with them. But, eventually, we got there, and it pays off in the end. Now, raw feeding is second nature and I don't have to worry about whether they will eat raw food or not. The tough love pays off in so many ways. Just think that, they do add substances into the biscuits that trigger the pleasure centres in a cat brain, thus causing an addiction to the biscuits. So the best way to approach it is to treat the cat as though they are a drug addict, and they have to withdraw from the biscuits. Personally, I found the cold turkey approach to be the best approach. anyway, good luck.
Thank you. I started feeding my diabetic boy FirstMate can food because I saw you were feeding it in one of your videos and thought it would be good as you were feeding it. I just realized it is very high in carbs, potato or rice! Yikes. About 23% DM carbs. Now, it’s back to searching for a lower carb can food. I’m trying Rawz next.
Great video thank you so much! Can you please make a video to show how you make food for your cat? I'm unsure about adding omegas etc... how and how much?
The breeder my cat came from told me about the importance of diet and introduced me to the idea of frozen/thawed whole pray items like quail chicks. The breeder mentioned how a small amount of grains is a normal part of cat diet because it is their prey’s diet. Also how the fur, feather, tendons, organs, and bones provide important nutrients that can get missed if you are just feeding muscle meats. The reptile (snake and other carnivores) community actually has a great selection of options that are a great source of foods.
Wow, this hits home. We have a super-senior cat, & used to feed her a combination of kibbles & wet food. This was fine in her younger days, but as she got older she got fat & started throwing up a lot… on a daily basis for a while. Then, she became very skinny. We began to notice that she would throw up more often after she ate the kibbles, so we began limiting them. Recently, she had a nasty episode of constipation & we thought she wasn’t going to make it. We switched her over to wet food almost exclusively & she pulled through. Now, that’s almost all we feed her, and she’s a LOT healthier than she was. She’s still skinny, but she has a lot more energy & doesn’t throw up nearly as often as she did. (Sometimes she has to get rid of hairballs.) Great video… and it’s one we can testify to. 🙂
My cat is turning 20 all the way up to the age of 18 he was eating a good high end food but a couple years ago he got picky and will only eat a C grade dry food but he does have a pet fountain and drinks lots of water and seems to be doing great
Great. This explains why my cat is overweight and is not losing weight. We've tried everything. Buying very expensive kibble food for her and managing how much she eats and she's still not losing weight. Any wet food that anyone can recommend? Extremely grateful to whoever responds
Thank you so much, Dr. Jones. I love your channel. I've learned so much. I always have a problem with my vet when it comes to nutrition for my cats. I have 3 cats. My 12-year-old had crystals about 2 years ago. He has been on the S/0 urinary diet. He only likes wet food, so I took him off of dry because he never likes it, and it's a waste of my money. I also have a Maine Coon and I learned by watching videos that they should be on a high protein diet. He is 21lbs. I give my other 2 cats raw food and a grain free kibble. My vet never wants to discuss other foods, only the one they sell at the clinic.
Mars owns most of the pet food brands and companies and they have recently started acquiring vast numbers of veterinary clinics around the world.....create the problem, provide the solution.....the vets are brainwashed or are in cahoots
wow this was set out so well and easy to understand...Ive been feeding my cats raw and supplementing w/kibble but now more than ever...I know I need to get away from kibble
Thank you so much for all the wonderful information you give us. I was wondering if it is necessary to remineralize the filtered water we give our cats and dogs?? There has been a lot said about remineralizing our own filtered water and it seems that we would need to do the same for our pets.
Absolutely! We make our food from Tilapia, carrots and peas. We also give a handful of good kibble as a treat. Nutritional training is currently performed by cat food manufacturers. Cost is under $10/wk for 2 adult cats.
Thank you for putting this video out. My previous kitty died at age 16 because the vet who diagnosed her with diabetes put her on some Iams diabetes DRY food. Only when she kept getting worse did I find the diabetic kitty forums and learned I could have reversed it had I put on a raw food diet sooner and tested her blood sugar levels multiple times a day. I then should have been giving her insulin according to what her results were at that time. Did the vet tell me any of this - NO WAY - just took her level at the vet office and then instructed me to give her insulin based on that one figure twice a day. Be VERY careful who you trust if your kitty has diabetes. Most vets do not have your interest at heart - your wallet maybe.
I'm grateful for all the information you share. My little guy Valor is 6 about months old, and a vet told us to feed him 3 times a day (wet/dry/wet). After seeing this, im going to transition away from Kibble. What types of raw meats are safe to feed him , and what frequency do you recommend?
~I feed kibble sometimes, but mixed with tuna & sea kelp~Its still kibble, but better, and the sea kelp helps offset the mercury harm from the tuna~My cat that only likes kibble, will eat it this way~
I've just gotten a kitten . Will you be doing this cat health webinar again? Where / how can i get it? Thank you for your awesome videos on natural pet health.
Hi Doctor. Thank you for this video. I have been paying for expensive, no carb dry cat food which I give my cat first thing in the morning to keep him from meowing. I feed him wet food the rest of the day. What wet food would you suggest? Right now he gets Fancy Feast.
Fancy Feast is garbage. You want to buy wet food that first 3-5 ingredients listed are a real protein like beef, chicken, turkey, etc etc. Stay away from wet food that has meat by product listed. The Dr. has a video of a homemade food that my cats love. Ingredients are simple. If buying canned wet food Wellness pate is good, although they have raised their price & is expensive. Nulo pate is good too with the ingredients I had mentioned previously, and reasonably priced. Expect to pay more, but is worth it. I used to feed my cats the typical garbage. These days because of the good quality food I feed them, their coats have become so soft.
I feed Wellness and Tiki Cat but it is a financial struggle as we are low income with 2 rescue cats. BUT.. I have saved a ton on Vet visits as there have been no health problems in the last 7 years and both are elderly.
Fancy Feast is high in calcium and phosphorus. Weruva Truluxe Steak Frites or Paw Lickin Chicken are lower in calcium and phosphorus than many Hill's varieties. The chicken comes in 10 oz cans that are about $3.90 each.
Such a necessary video! I educated myself about the perils of dry kibble years ago and have been trying to pass this info on to other cat parents. Some don't want to hear it, but others take this new-to-them info to heart. Also, I routinely mix water into my cat's wet food, as she's not a big water drinker.
We lost our lil Bear couple of weeks ago through UTI...emergency vets weren't available the day we took him in...He was a beautiful cat and we had to stay with him till he passed...I was a mess, one of the worst day of my life😢😢
@@gailmuir799 I feel your pain very much so. My well-loved feral boy was put to eternal sleep last week and I'm absolutely in a mess. I loved him dearly. He was fed with excellent food....freshly cooked chicken one day, freshly cooked fish another day, tuna in water another day and tinned food (expensive brand) for the rest of the week. Occasionally I would leave Purina biscuits but he never touched them so I threw them out to the birds who enjoyed them. I am alone now and debating whether to offer a home to another cat, preferably a feral or unwanted cat. So, so, sad I am. Diamond is the best kibble I found for dogs & cats. I adopted a stray that was almost bald, tried everything but Diamond grew her hair back immediately. My moms feral cats were infested with skin bumps & sores & it healed them as well. IF you can't afford to cook or they won't eat cooked food, try Diamond. They've only had 1 Recall over 10yrs ago. It's sad human & pet food is tainted w poison & crappy ingredients that are usually chemicals.
@yolandamorales7526 Diamond is bad food and to many recalls. Feed can most affordable if you must fancy feast lower price. But I now feed Wellness high protein low carbohydrates. I do give some tuna and salmon, beef, chicken I make no grease.

Thank you
Very telling answer 🤔

I have never fed my cat dry cat food. I've always fed him Fancy Feast cans. He's never had any health problems nor is he overweight. In May he'll be 20 yrs old. It's expensive but I'm saving in veterinary bills.
You can always do meat chucks, fish or chicken. Freeze for 7 days. It actually may be cheaper as a 40-50% meal replacer (cans and kibble still provide important nutrients and stuff like taurine).
@@WhiteWolfos I tried that but he won't eat it. In fact he's very picky on what fancy feast he will eat. I swear he can read the cans label..😊

So true
I wish I could give this honest man 100 stars up!
My 6 cats have completely changed for the better on a raw diet. They are so vibrant and soft and no more smelly poo

Best of luck! Canned with spring water only! 👍👍🐾🐾
Learned so much. Good luck with your new cat. So amazing they are
Frozen Tilapia sold in grocery stores. We bake then strip the meat and add peas and carrots. I also give a handful of good quality kibble just in case there's a micro nutrient we're missing. We have 2 cats, 5 and 8 years old. Very healthy and clean teeth.
yep, I stopped feeding the dry about 1 year ago. My cats fur softened, and my younger one went into diabetes remission. Dry food = bad.
Yes, it's amazing how nice their coat gets and how quick like weeks to transformation. 😊
And yet I had a cat 15 years which ate mostly kibble. Shiny black fur. Wasn't fat. My cat now is probably better not eating kibble since it seems to make her fat. Yet even the decent wet food has added sugar content.
Yeah everyone is amazed at how nice my cats coats are as well! I don't think its anything genetic, just good food!
Best decision 🙌
Interesting, my cat doesn't like boiled chicken, she only likes raw chicken.
I drink Fiji water and share it with my cat. she loves it so much.
You are not feeding a balanced diet. Do the research.
Thank you Dr. I'm a lonely senior and my little buddy is my life. I'm always looking at whatever it will take for him to be with me forever. At 16 I know that like me he is an old man and needs to be looked after.
You're a good papa to your kitty and I'm sure he loves you very much!

Thanks!
The worst thing Ive ever heard a vet say is they're omnivores who need equal corn and soy to protein. I walked straight out instead of lose my temper.
WTF? I would have punched myself in the face to wake me up from dreaming. I can't imagine even a pet food company selling those lies.
That is not a vet, but an "environmental activist" 😬
@@harvesterofeyes8813 Cats do eat grass for nutrition anymore than dogs eating rocks do. Cats vomit up the grass after eating it. It doesn't make them omnivores.
Vegan cat owners scare the hell out of me.
@@saniainezNah, environmental activists who know what they're talking about are more about keeping your cats indoors and not letting them roam unsupervised, regardless of what you feed them.
Glad to hear that! ❤️
Great job!!
Would you mind mentioning a few things they like to eat? I'm just learning about this. Thanks.
It's sad isn't it?! You can say the same for human care facilities too. Since when have pills "cured" anything?
Really glad to know others are on to the whole pet food- pet insurance - big pharma scam.
Veterinarians were GREAT 20 years ago.
Now, as with human drs, good veterinarians are hard to find.
Thailand has one of the highest rates of rabies, I'm glad that they're pushing vaccination more aggressively. You need to stop being skeptical of what the authorities are doing just because some guy on TH-cam is selling you a conspiracy theory.
The girl that works at the vet told me she doesn’t vaccinate her cats because they are indoors. Makes sense!

Even cooked protein or good can food would be better than dry.

I removed the Kibble about 30 days ago and he only gets boiled chicken I cook, salmon I cook and quality canned food on your recommendation list. Toby is already looking better. I’m a cat sitter in the UK and tell all my customers this, especially diabetic cats. But their vet advised them to use the vet recommended dry food and they won’t change.
Mars owns most of the pet food brands and companies and they have recently started acquiring vast numbers of veterinary clinics around the world.....create the problem, provide the solution.....the vets are brainwashed or are in cahoots

@@michelleb5453 I feed my cat Katkin, just that and nothing else and small portions several times a day.
IMO I think cat owners feed dry food bc their too lazy to open up a can 😢
Dr Jones, I care for many kitty colonies outside (like thousands of other people who care for outdoor kittys).
@@wintersprite That's true. Quite a few cats refuse the shredded or wet kibble pieces in sauce.
This. I tried to cook food for my cat following vet advices. She didn't touch it. As for wet food, we fed her some every evening but she only ever lick the sauce, and it there wasn't any sauce, she wouldn't touch it at all. The only thing she would actually eat was kibbles.

I am going home tonight and picking up the kibble bowl for good.
Thank you for sharing your experience.

Have you tried mixing wet with the dry food?
Does anyone have a nutritious recipe for an extremely picky feline who also will ONLY eat kibble?
Wonderful knowledge, thanks doc🐾
Information I learned too late. Thank you for the info you provide to pet owners.

Love your cat's name. 😊
Actually his name is jackfrost. FirstMate is the cat food. 🙂.
Great video thank you so much! Can you please make a video to show how you make food for your cat? I'm unsure about adding omegas etc... how and how much?
Thank you for this. Is there a brand of cat food that you would recommend?
I heard that you were supposed to feed less kibble but now I think it's time to get rid of it!! Thank you❤
My cat is turning 20 all the way up to the age of 18 he was eating a good high end food but a couple years ago he got picky and will only eat a C grade dry food but he does have a pet fountain and drinks lots of water and seems to be doing great

Great. This explains why my cat is overweight and is not losing weight. We've tried everything. Buying very expensive kibble food for her and managing how much she eats and she's still not losing weight. Any wet food that anyone can recommend? Extremely grateful to whoever responds
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Dr. Jones 💕
Changing my ways, George will be a happier cat after today, thanks and meow!
wow this was set out so well and easy to understand...Ive been feeding my cats raw and supplementing w/kibble but now more than ever...I know I need to get away from kibble
yes!
This is very educational. Thank you very much! Done subscribing 🙏🏼👍
What about feeding kibble along with wet food?
Thank you Doc! Good info. I’m hoping my cat can adapt to raw protein. She is fussy about food.
I'm so sorry to hear about Murray. He had so much character and personality.
I'm grateful for all the information you share. My little guy Valor is 6 about months old, and a vet told us to feed him 3 times a day (wet/dry/wet). After seeing this, im going to transition away from Kibble. What types of raw meats are safe to feed him , and what frequency do you recommend?
Thank you for telling the truth that other doctors refuse to tell or even admit.
Thank You. It is important to me as well for my Cat.❤
There seems to be a glitch in the video between 4:18 and 4:32.
Thank you for your feedback!
It is fixed now! :)

What about canned tuna and Salmon? Without the juice they pack it in..
I feed all kinds of meat, but wondered about the canned Fish.
Once in a while, yes. Regularly, no. Too much mercury.
And too much salt if it’s off the regular shelf at the store
Easy on the fish as it is high in phosphorus which can lead to ckd

Diamond is the best kibble I found for dogs & cats. I adopted a stray that was almost bald, tried everything but Diamond grew her hair back immediately. My moms feral cats were infested with skin bumps & sores & it healed them as well. IF you can't afford to cook or they won't eat cooked food, try Diamond. They've only had 1 Recall over 10yrs ago. It's sad human & pet food is tainted w poison & crappy ingredients that are usually chemicals.
Diamond cat and dog food awful junk
@yolandamorales7526 Diamond is bad food and to many recalls. Feed can most affordable if you must fancy feast lower price. But I now feed Wellness high protein low carbohydrates. I do give some tuna and salmon, beef, chicken I make no grease.
Just listen to the Doc he knows best.
