  • Ever wondered why your cat sports a saggy belly, seemingly regardless of their diet or exercise routine? That intriguing feature is known as the primordial pouch, a common trait among our feline friends. It's easy to mistake this distinctive saggy stomach for a sign of your cat being overweight or even obese, but there's more to this mysterious feature than meets the eye. This TH-cam video titled "Primordial Pouch - Why Your Cat Has a Fat Pouch" dives deep into the anatomy and purpose of the primordial pouch in cats, offering insights into why this cat pouch under the belly is a natural and healthy characteristic, rather than a weight issue. Whether your cat's primordial sac swings as they trot or it's just a subtle bulge, you'll discover the evolutionary advantages this feature provides to your pet.
    Many cat owners find themselves asking, "Is my cat overweight, or is that just their primordial pouch?" This video aims to clear up the confusion by detailing what the primordial pouch is, and why it's a crucial part of your cat's physiology. From providing protection during fights to aiding in flexibility and movement, the primordial pouch plays a significant role in your cat's well-being. Beyond just a cat pouch swinging or a sign of a saggy belly, the primordial pouch serves important functions that trace back to their ancestors. Join us as we explore the fascinating world of your cat's anatomy, debunking myths about obesity and providing peace of mind to pet owners concerned about their furry companion's health.

      @TheLunaFaerie17 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      Same. Both of mine are brother and sister, so I had the boy spayed first and just a month later he developed this pouch. Now almost a year later, we had his sister spayed as she was in distress from being in season too often. And now, a month later she has this pouch, too. She was very slender before, so we've now switched them both onto indoor sterilised food, and we hope that they will begin to slim down.

    How to weigh a cat at home? Simple: Holding your cat, step on your scale, remember number. Then weigh only yourself, and subtract your number from the first weight.
    That's how nurses weigh children too big for the infant scale and those children not able to stand unassisted.

    • @eileenstasczak6606
      @eileenstasczak6606 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      If your kitty squirms, wrap Kitty in a soft blanket before weighing. I use a soft flannel or fleece pillowcase. Also, it works like a charm when I trim their nails.❤️🐈‍⬛❤️🐈

      a suitcase scale works well for measuring cats in a travel cage and can be zeroed on an empty cage to make directly reading the weight easy

    I always wondered about this. My friends' cat has this pouch and I thought it was due to staying indoors and a kibble diet. So when I got my kitten I fed her a raw diet and allowed her to roam outside. Sure enough at the age of 10 she developed this pouch too. Now I know it is normal.

    When I adopted Ryan,when I lived in Nebraska, he was kitten. I called them wattles; they swung laft and right. Ryan is 11 years old now. A secrete eater to 24 pounds, last year. With a little exersize he has backed off to 21. My little Jacksonville City rescue cat, Andrew, weighs 7.9 pounds and begs for food; no wattles. I call him a deer, leaping about the living space. Since 1991, Ryan is my ninth rescue and Andrew is number 10. I have loved them all dearly.

    You left out the ability of cats to relax when falling from deadly heights. Cats get injured when falling from three to six stories, but when they fall from over ten stories they have time to increase their air resistance buy extending their limbs. Since they normally land on their relaxed bellies I would imagine that the pouch not only minimizes injury by providing a softer landing, but also allows them to hyper-stretch into a wing to slow their descent.

    to my best of knowledge/observance, it seems to me this only happens to cats that get fixed...if they are not fixed, it does not seem to appear, so having said that, I believe it to be a messed-up hormone issue that causes their bellies to hang... from what we do to them/fixing them, regarding their reproductive system/hormones, as it just cannot be good to remove any body parts and then expect it to be A-ok afterwards...and yeah I get it about not having a bunch of kittens running around...I am just saying, it has its consequences when the fixing procedure is done

    My 3 years old cat had a flab. I took him to the vet, they did bunch of tests on him because was fluid built up! They thought he had Leptospirosis, than other viruses, but turned out he has high blood pressure! Since they put him on medication, he has no more fluid and he feels better! The vet was shocked because he is so young 😢

      It's so good to hear that your kitty is feeling better after finding the right treatment! 😌 It's always concerning when our furry friends have health scares, but you did an awesome job by taking him to the vet and ensuring he got the care he needed. Sending love to your sweet kitty for continued good health! 💖🐾

    Our three are have a pouch that flops from side to side but they are indoor only. Thought they weren't getting enough exercise since they are indoor only!!

    I have 2 Egyptian Maus. The Primordial Pouch is quite obvious on these cats. I call the pouches "cat flaps".

    Pouch it’s just extra skins so when the cat jumped, he can stretch his legs out so he can go further and it doesn’t fall on his stomach

    Any chance it might also hold mammary glands? Also, another question: If I were to encounter a large cat, like a bobcat or some other sort of wildcat, would it be ill-advised to give them a, "blup!",greeting and then break eye contact, in hopes of reducing the tension of the situation?

    Our sweet girl had a big pouch. My son in law told me he thought our cat is the fattest cat he’s ever seen! Ugh!!! I told him it’s her pouch!

    My family had always thought our cat's belly flap was because she had a litter at a really young age.

    I heard the primal pouch allowed the cat to extend his hind legs and run faster so not only have. I had an Egyptian now who has a candy sack pouch. I also had a minx who had quite hind legs and a huge candy sack.
