I've read "Freddy Krüger" nightmares about that 21mm nut in the corner of the wishbone, not to mention breaking that joint loose! And you did it with a little joint fork tool, wow! 👏👏👏 so you must be one of the luckiest E46 owners who ever did this job!

Yea, it wasn’t too bad. I think being a west coast car probably helped a lot!

Thank you for great video! We just did the drivers side control arm on a 2001 330ci. I wish I would have watched your video first because at 17:56 and onwards, you talked about how you first lined up the bushing bolts with the tube dowels and had the knuckle balljoint out while doing that. When we attempted at first, we did with the knuckle ball joint connected. After a little while fiddling with it, we realized the best way to do it was how you mentioned. We were able to align the bushing bolts to the dowels flush, but unfortunately even with new bolts, the top bolt crossed-threaded for some reason. We managed to re-thread the bolt hole using the bolt and tighten really well. The only downside now is if we ever have to do any control arm or/and bush replacement for the drivers side, we may have to always use that same top bolt because of the crossed-threading. A new bolt is likely to just crossed thread again. Thanks again for the great video!

Thank you for the comments. They can be a bit tricky! I’m glad you were able to solve the cross thread issue!

Thank you from Australia for the informative and detailed video, much appreciated.
I'll be changing my E46 control arms this weekend, I also just replaced the front struts today and hoping that the control arms will be a simpler job.
I also found out today how far a coil spring shoots out from a failed spring compressor, about 15 metres , I think my life flashed before my eyes.

Another great video! I installed new front control arms and bushings on mine earlier this year and it made a huge difference in handling and feel. The FCABs (front control arm bushings) are a known issue and usually toast after 45-60K miles on E46s. I definitely needed to do the arms and bushings at 123K miles. Previous owner had changed the bushings around 60K miles back in 2011.

Thank you. The control arm for the passenger side finally got delivered so will be glad to get it changed out too.

What brand control arm did you purchase. A link would be nice. Thanks for the filming and editing effort. I'm sure the process slowed you down

Awesome to see videos on the older e46's with the m52tu engine like this as most out there are on the m54 cars. Do you still have the e46?

Thanks for the comment. Regrettably I sold the E46 so I could get a different project car. I’m currently working on restoring an 86 300ZX Turbo. But I genuinely wish I had the space and money to have kept the BMW. It was well sorted and a pleasure to drive.
      Cheers
