    In this video, I review the new Beyerdynamic DT 700 PRO X and Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X headphones. And I compare them to the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250 ohm headphones and the open back 990s as well. In this video I’ll tell you if I think you should upgrade from the DT 770 or DT 990 headphones to the Beyerdynamic DT 700 PRO X and Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X headphones. I talk about sound quality, build quality and what you can expect from mixing and tracking with these headphones.

    Love your reviews Sanjay, I’m a hobbyist music producer and I always end up mixing with low bass while using the 990 pros, it may be really worth switching/upgrading to the 700 pro X just to get accurate on the bass mixes. I have to rely on headphones because I live in an apartment and can’t have my monitors too loud.

    thanks for the review!
    i was hoping for more elaborate review on sound quality! the rest is easy to see (detachable everything)
    can you clarify 1) even though the 700s are closed, and technically open back 900s can have better separation for purpose of MIXING, you still think that the 700s can be used for mixing?
    this is confusing only bec even Beyerdynamic on their catalog states 3 out of 5 for 700s for mixing, and i think 4 or 5 for 900s
    2) the 700 pro x reviews say they have too much bass = more than 770s (enjoyable sub bass for audiophiles but not necessarily for producers/ mixers). Did you feel that wayl?
    3) did the 900s sound Too bright (some reviews say) so overall my ques. which is more neutral 700 vs 900? (seems like 700 have hyped bass, more neutral highs compared to 900 , vs 900 has "normal" unhyped bass, boosted highs (sometimes sharp and excessive) , but also a wider / bigger soundstage due to being open
    i do appreciate that you mentioned that 700s are more useful bec. they allow you to cut out outside noise (most pros still promote open backs for mixing)

      I have 32 and 250 ohm Beyers.
      The 250's are probably clearer (2 diff models), but I think the differences are more in how they modified the old DT driver for 32 ohm vs a totally new driver.
      I don't buy that higher impedence makes a better speaker, and I believe 80-250 ohms was a utilitarian design choice by BD. Consider super high end, money-no-object studio monitors - if it mattered they'd be making these with greater impedence than 4-8 ohm.

    • @hrodebertcoad9848
      @hrodebertcoad9848 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JN-qj9gf Monitors have a bit more... "natural impedance" let's say, in that they have to deal with a lot more air pressure when they operate compared to the much smaller diaphragms in headphones. I believe it's usually about damping, as you'd notice some cheaper low impedance headphones sound muddy even if the general construction of the drivers is sound. Usually this is the results of sounds not dying off fast enough. I guess speakers would also have the benefit that the noise is also typically way quieter than sound from the main signal that's driving it. There are plenty of other factors of course, sound is a complex and complicated thing to engineer for.

    • @YOGIKRASPRO
      @YOGIKRASPRO ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In a nutshell you can’t compare directly impedance of two completely different headphones. Dt 700 pro x has new designed transducer which acts differently than old one used in dt 770 pro. Because those are built in different way they sound different. Unless your signal source has high impedance (greater than 5 ohms) you will be fine with 700 (couse their impedance is a bit lowwer than 50 ohms). Low impedance in those headphone also make them more versatile. You should also have in mind that lots of headphones made for audiophiles has low impedance. In summary both headphones have unique sound and both are extremely clear and using them is joyful experience. I hope this makes sense for you. Regards

    Good review. You stated that the 770's 250 ohm version have better separation/imaging than the 80 ohm version. So, have the 700's, with 48 ohm resistance, have the same or better separation/imaging than the 770's 250 ohm? What has been sacrificed in the 700 to accommodate the flexibility of plugging in pretty much anywhere without a hp amp?

    • @nicktan4530
      @nicktan4530 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello let me explain to you. I have the Dt 770 250 ohms the old version. The truth, is yes 250 ohms is clearly the superior ones in seperation/imaging although your mileage may vary depending on your ears and source. 80 ohms have more oomph to the bass response. I have no idea about the 48 ohm resistance, no it does not have the same separation/imaging. For watever reason, the impedance have different tuning and have no idea why, over signature remains the same. The sacrifice of the lower impedance are less performance of separation/imaging, tighter bass response and detail as well as clarity. Not as less distortion but to the human ear, its beyond our hearing in terms of distortion and noise.

    Great review, Sanjay C does this kind of review so well! I like the 48 Ohm rating of the ProX, plus the removable cable and other parts, so I've gone with the 700 ProX. The problem with 250 Ohm headphones is they don't work with most instruments like keyboards and grooveboxes, or listening devices such as phones, tablets ect. as you'll need a headphone amp to drive it. This is not practical for mobile music making. The 770s do come in a 80 Ohm version but are not much cheaper than the ProX in Australia. The 770s are about the same price as the Sonys here as well, which is weird!

    I bought the 770 Pro 80 Ohms a few weeks ago as of this comment thinking they, and the 990 Pro would be around without an upgrade for quite some time. And not even a week with them, Beyerdynmics comes out with the 700 and 900 Pro X's. Ugh!
    As tempting as it is to want to upgrade, I really do enjoy the tuning of the 770s and they make my music so much more dynamic and spacious. As far as that treble peak everyone seems to have issues with, I find it offers a level of detail that I really like. I think maybe the complaints about it come from those who listen to their music way too loud which can really drive that 8k peak pretty hard. However, at lower to moderate volumes, it's very tolerable and welcome in my book.
    And out of all the headphones I've owned in the 40+ years I've been an audiophile/music lover, the 770's are the only ones that have an audible and present sub-bass. If it's in the music, they present it so distinctly. Even if the sub-bass is not in the music, I can hear some trailing ends to it if it's out there waiting to be presented. In fact, despite its well-presented, detailed and punchy bass, these are not basshead cans! I don't know how Beyerdynamics does it but that's a quality I will never give up!
    But dang, those 700 Pro X's! --sigh--

      The 1770 would be closer to what you're used to since it uses the same driver as the 1990. I think you would be disappointed with the 770, i haven't heard this new version 700 x but based off my listening with the old version it just doesn't compare to the 1990. Highly suggest for you to go to a shop and give them both a listen and decide from there. 1770's are really aggressive though, a completely different experience to the 1990

    • @mister_xenomorph
      @mister_xenomorph 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EggiTheShadow Considering the 1770 Pro's are twice the price of the 700 X's, I'd probably look into the latter first unless I could afford the former at the time 😅 I also use SoundID Reference when mixing, so by then I'd figure a profile for the 700 X's would've been produced.
