The words that audiophiles use to describe sound always confuses me lol. “The 1408’s sound much more chocolatey on the highs, but they’re still a little salty. But in the mids is where you get the real meat. We’re talking beef, venison. No chicken. Lows are fantastic, just as on the other 14 series. Very deep, dark, and hit you like a Mack truck.”
It's kind of funny how he describes it. But Joshua Valour is better at explaining things, but still so confusing. To be honest, professional audiophiles talk like they're just talking to other professional audiophiles. And all of those newcomers for this, they'll be confused what these TH-camrs audiophiles are saying HAHAHA.
That's why I like Zeos. Many consider him a rambly moron but somehere in his reviews there's always something useful for me to take away from them. Joshua Valour and DMS and others may objectively be better but I find Zeos' reviews more useful.
I prefer my Headphone mids to give me a little Chicken flavor... but like Chicken without the Skin because it's healthier! Now that's a tasty HP Sound Signature!!
The 900X seems too good to be true : 45 ohm, open design, removable cable, sick design... That 4K edit was smoooooooooooooth and I really liked your attention to lightning in the edit. Excellent job ! EDIT: I must add I truly appreciated the way you tried different approach to compare both headphones between them, with their higher versions and with the competitors. It brings so many answers.
It kinda sucks for normal music listening. Very flat, and the highs are unbearable at high volumes. Dunno why he recommended these to normal people, it's designed for pro work, not for music listening. Could work for gaming, but any headphones work for gaming tbh. Just get cheaper ones.
are the Dt 770’s good for gaming and music listening? Could you also hear footsteps clearly and bomb explosions. (80 ohm version) would i need an amp for it or no. Plugged into my laptop.
@@shoobror8291 The trick is to increase the bass with EQ Settings and use you're DAC's high gain. Just make sure the volume dial isn't cranked or you'll blow your ears out. :P
@@paradoxic1888 I'm actually getting rid of my 900 Pro X's and upgrading to the 1990's, simply because the 900's(and 700's) suffer from a veil-like filtered effect that's masking the clarity or audio. This isn't the case with the DT770(250) and 1990's. they sound crystal clear. Sure, the 900's may offer a bit more soundstage, and are a little more open, spacious, warmer and a tinge fuller since they are technically semi-open back Vs closed, but it all becomes irrelevant to me because of that slight clarity masking veil-effect. Maybe there's a way to improve this with EQ settings? Ultimately, i think it's a toss up between the 770(250) & 900's. With the 1990's, they're even more open than the 900's, but with that crystal clear sound, stronger vocals and then some vs the DT770's. I'll take 8k treble spike. Balance pads plus proper EQ settings should mitigate the effect at least
@@shoobror8291 yeah you probably didn't buy them and only read reviews, I got them and they are excellent for music listening, the best headphones I've ever head and they are also built like a tank with premium materials, for 250$ I think they are a steal, these should easily cost 500$+,
Excellent review man I'm glad a somewhat bigger channel like yours actually has some understanding of the audio hobby and goes into more depth than others who just say "sound is pretty good to me".
I've had the tygr 300r for almost a year now and can say that it's the jack of all trades of headphones. Easy to use, doesn't need any eq. I would recommend these because they perform well enough in everything and zero discomfort even after 10+ hours of having them on your head. 150€ for these is a steal.
Yeah they are, but which budget do you have? Bass is a bit lacking. That's why ill probably get the DT770 80 Ohm as well I think@@filbgyibcfyjechik3612
Watched this while wearing my 900 Pro X. Completely agree. I wasn't expecting them to be as versatile as they are. Just for fun, try them out with the iFi ZenDac with XBass activated if you haven't already. Blew me away!
I'm definitely about to lol. Isn't it weird how on some tracks they don't really thump, then you load up a different track and the 808s go crazy? Thought I was losing my mind doing the comparisons. Kept having to check what headphone I was actually wearing lmao
To sum it up for gamers/normal listeners that want a pair of Open Back Headphones (in my opinion, sorry if its bad English) 1. Dt 1990 pro is the best overall for gaming and normal tasks but the price difference is not 100 - 200 dollars worth more (They are quite better but not so much better) = if you dint mind spending a bit more these are the headphones for you. 2. Dt 900 Pro X is the best for the price and performance, sure its not as good as a 1900 pro but its not such a big jump its still super good and for quite a lot less, they are also easier to drive so you can use it on anything and a lot easier (For most people this is def the right choice) = Buy these if you want a good pair of headphones and don't want to spend to much but still invest in some really good headphones that are both good for Gaming and normal task. 3. Dt 990 Pro is a really good gaming headphone for a lot less, its almost as good as the 900 pro x but just not as good in everyday tasks. These are really good performance for the money = If you don't want to spend to much and will mostly/only use it for gaming these are the headphones for you - They are Open back so they leak sound but gives you a lot better view of your surroundings = Good for Fps, Open World, Racing Games. - They are all comfy but can be a bit thight when new but will get better over time I am not a professional but i payed a lot of attention to what he said and for a Normal Person that plays a lot of games and does daily stuff this is what i summed up. I think i will pick between the Dt 1900 Pro or 900 Pro X depending on how much cash i want to spend. (There will come sales at some point where these headphones will be cheaper if you want to wait) Hope this helped anyone out there
Thanks for covering these. It is looking more and more likely that I'll finally be upgrading my old 770 Pro 80. I'm still holding out for more opinions, but that 700 is really looking promising for a better closed back that won't make me shy away due to the price. Props for the TYGR mention too!
Just picked up the DT 900 pro x based on your video. First pair of Beyerdynamics and I am in love. Been going through my music library just listening and I am just super happy with the experience. Keep up the great work my friend.
@@mkapp8724 I honestly got rid of them after a couple months. Not because they didn't sound good, but with my glasses, I could never get them to be as comfortable as my other pair of shp 9500.
@@mkapp8724 this may be late, but they were fine. i actually ended up selling them because I was having issues with fit and my glasses (giving me a headache) They held up on a day to day basis though without issue
I ordered a set of the DT-900's for myself as a treat and boy, do these things go off! I have never heard such clarity before and honestly has changed everything for me. I paired these with a Fosi DAC Q4 and they sound amazing. Would love to get a Schiit stack to power these in the future. Thanks Brain for the awesome review.
would you say it is worth getting a dac/amp for the 900s? I know it isnt required based on the stats, but why spend $300 on something and not get the most out of them? btw i was looking at ifi zen dac v2 ifff its worth it.
@@christianoberreiter5011 I actually ended up pulling the trigger on the zen, I must admit that for music listening the bass boost on the zen DAC gave it the punch it was missing. As far as how loud the headphones are. It was just fine when plugged straight to my mobo. Personally i think it's worth it if you have the money, however I can only speak on this combo of 🎧 and amp/DAC.
Sure a bass boost function is another story the point i was trying to make is that amps and dacs in general should and do not alter the sound. Except for something like a bass boost function glad you like it i have dt 700pros myself
@@christianoberreiter5011 Can agree with you I just bought a $300 Schiit stack and the difference is so minimal over my $40 UMC22 Behringer it's hard to recommend. They can drive a lot higher, yes, and sound is a bit more interesting and playful/dynamic, yes... but when I A-B test them it's so close that I wish I saved the money and just bought a lower impedance headset like 300R and ran on my UMC22. This way I keep my direct mic monitoring and save several hundred dollars and don't have cables all over my desk.
Fantastic product review. Appreciate your "matter of fact", straight forward approach to the DT700 / 900 PRO X series. Wanted to upgrade from my Sennheiser's, both in closed and open back models. Hadn't experienced Beyerdynamic's before so I purchased "both" of these to assess which is best for my voice over production needs. WOW. Amazed with what I had been missing out on with this manufacturer. You were absolutely, 100% correct in your review and evaluations. The DT 700 PRO is extremely precise in it's closed back, highly detailed field and is wonderful for vocal recording and tracking. The DT 900 PRO is "exactly the same" in sound quality, but feels like you just entered an amphitheater concert staging area with it's detailed, open wide sound stage. Amazing. As a result, keeping "both" for different applications. These Beyerdynamic audio headphones are incredible in build and sound quality applications. More comfortable and better performing than the of my Sennheiser's. Thank you for your straight forward, honest evaluation. I certainly thought about purchasing the 1990's, but your honest evaluations let me know I am good with my purchase decision. Likewise, if anyone reviewing my comments has to make a purchase decision on either the DT700 or the DT900, get the DT900. You will never want to take them off your head. The open back sound stage is not too loose or "crazy open" to where you cannot get the job done with your recording needs. The DT700's are truly a audiophile recording and tracking work horse. Looking forward to more of your reviews. Thanks again. Subscribed + "All"
I got the 1900 and returned them. The highs were to sharp for me and EQ couldnt handle it in different situations. The soundstage was a real disappointment für me. It wasnt really wide and when listening to orchestral music i wasnt able to seperate a lot of instruments. Thats why i chose to return them and keep on listening on my AKG K712 Pros. Maybe i will be giving the 900 Pro X a chance but i dont think they will have a good wide soundstage
Your thoughts were helpful here, thank you! I am considering one of these for podcasting and gaming mostly, and I’ve never tried an open back style so I was considering the 900s.
@@ChristopherConnors i really wouldnt recommend these Headphones for Gaming, they dont have a wide soundstage. If you are playing shooters you will run into problems really identifying where the enemies exactly are. Go with something more open like the Audio Technica ATH-R7X, they have a good soundstage and a pleasing sound
I've tested multiple HD 5XX and HD6XX series of Sennheiser and i found had the DT 700 / 900 Pro really fills the gap between de HD 5XX and HD6XX series. I find the DT's compared to the HD6XX abit more closer in your face / head but lacks mid range compared to Sennheiser. Trebble is abit more harsh then the HD Series but not to much. The base has abit more punch. Soundstage of the 900 is better then my HD660S which says allot. Still my HD 660S has a higher fidelity. I think i gonna keep the DT 700 because its has its own signature compared to the HD 660S and because its closed back which i don't have yet. I also play instruments and the DT 700 is very nice as a monitor headphone and it will be my main daily driver. I had the HD 515 Sennheiser (which i still like very much, but the velour is totally gone)
@@machmutdoener I had the same experience with the 990 Pro's, The 900 Pro X is totally different, smoother highs / trebble. Still BT's are sharper / brighter then the Sennheiser HD 5XX / 6XX series. Soundstaging of the Sennheiser's are better but Sound imaging from the BT's X series are more clear and less muddy (compared with my Sennheiser HD660S)
Just picked up the 700 proX. Only been using them for a few days but they've massively improved my experience mixing and EQ'ing in Studio One. And going over all of my chosen reference tracks is eye opening. Also, reviewing my previously written music is now highlighting mistakes I made and didn't even realise. All part of the learning curve I guess. But these new 700 ProX are exactly what I was looking for, and for me, the isolation is a must. So these hit the brief perfectly. Loving them. Great review, I can confirm pretty much everything you described regarding the 700s. 👍
just got mine, previously i used 770, now that i tried the 700, it feels like the 700 lacks mid and high range, or it's just maybe i have to get used to 700 now that i was used to use 770. Rock and Country songs sound so good tho with 700. But my mixes sound better on 770. Just need to try produce and mix with the 700 and test on speaker i guess
I am SO hyped for these. I was planning on picking up a pair of 900 pros well in advance of this review, but it is always nice to see coverage on stuff I'm looking at. Once the funds allow, those babys are MINE.
A year later and for the same money I managed to snag a pair of HD600s a set that the Pro X is constantly found slightly worse than. Honestly there's nothing Beyhers does better than the 990 pro 250ohm for an all rounder and for specifics your just better off with other brands unless you have a thing for extra trebel on an otherwise unremarkable set.
@@GuitarSlayer136 HD600 sound the most interesting to me out of entire Senn lineup and I have really dug deep and done my research. I have DT 770 Pro 80 ohm and Edition XS. Tried 560S and K371 also plus several wireless gaming. Honestly, the DT 770 pro 80 ohm is great but does require amplification to sound its best. It's not night and day though. One of the mid-tier interfaces will drive these to near max capacity. I'm most curious about the 1990's.
I have the tygr 300r and can confirm they are a fantastic headphone. Imaging is pin point and seperation and clarity are great. Not my favourite music headphone but by far my best gaming headphone. Highly recommend them to anybody looking for a gaming headphone that also does a good job in music, but eq the low end up a bit and dont be afraid to feed them a little power when listening to music.
They have low end, since they're not "flat"/"neutral", but if you like your bass then that makes sense, since it's not an aggressive V sound signature.
always love how in depth you go for reviews, you hit everything an audiophile or producer would care about in headphones that alot of other reviews ive seen miss
Actually got a unit with the audio cut out issue on my 900 PRO X, stellar sound regardless. A replacement's already on its way but I found these to be much better than my Fidelios X2HR, hopefully the new unit will be ok with its cables as I really see myself daily driving these!

I just bought a pair of the 770 pro 80 ohms for $130 on Newegg. I can't wait for them to arrive. Mainly gonna be using them for ASMR content creation and video editing/mixing. Thanks so much for the awesome content!
Great review. I bought the 770 Pro 80 Ohms about 3 weeks ago thinking that Beyer would probably never update them and the 990 Pro. And then BOOM - they come up with the new 700 and 900 Pro X models. Ugh! I love my 770s. I love the sub-bass presence when it's in the music and the hint of it when it's not in the music. And I also happen to like that peaky treble as it adds space and clarity. Personally, I think that treble will only be a problem if you listen to music at ear-deafening volumes. But at lower to moderately loud volumes, it's no problem at all. Just my opinion, of course. Anyway, I love my 770 Pro 80 Ohms but now I'm wanting to upgrade to the 700s. But do I need to? And now, I'm thinking maybe the 900s might be good too. I use them only to listen to music. I guess I'll figure it out. Thanks for the review! 👍🏽
I was a big fan of AKG products, and had a pair of AKG K702's which I loved, but always found lacking in the bass department, but I decided to try out the 900 pro x, and I have to say I'm loving these headphones. Good bass, and mids. Even has sub-bass. The highs are more detailed on the k702's, but that might be fixed with a break in period and some adjustments. The sub-bass on the 702's is almost non-existent, and the bass was always lacking. I was shocked how good the 900x's sound out of the box. I'm keeping these. They're amazing.
@@mkapp8724 They're doing great. Despite the 45 Ohms a little extra power definitely helps. I have the Zen Dac V2 and I keep it on "power match" which helps round out the sound even though I have to keep the volume low, or I'll blow my ears out.
Im enjoying the tygr 300 with the SDAC+LCX for gaming. Good enough sound stage, still not as huge as the AKG Q701 (still my favorite) but Im gna go for the HD8XX for my end game.
It's very hard being a gamer and also of course like everyone else, listening to music, watching movies, whatever the case may be. Being one of these people who is tired of "gaming headphones" that are terrible quality. Then you enter the audiophile world and since the whole point of them is that they are professional, there is almost nothing about how they sound for gaming at all. Hard to get into for sure, shouldn't be this hard to choose a pair of headphones but it just is. Been looking at the DT 1770 Pro, DT 700 Pro X, a few others. 1770 Pro I've decided is just too aggressive, 700 Pro isn't as much but still without being able to try them out for myself it's impossible to know what is and isn't the right choice. I feel like there are many others in my situation that just go ahead and buy another "Gaming headphone" because they are overwhelmed by the audiophile world. I've been sitting on my same pair of headphones that are broken for some time now because I cannot find a viable replacement
Heads up, that while Beyerdynamic's website still states 24-48h shipping for the 700 Pro X in the US, they are currently on a 4-6 week backorder per my inquiry into support. It's been 2.5 weeks since I placed my order.
Bought the 900 pro x today a few hours before watching the video, waiting for them to arrive, planning to use them at work during breaks while my coworker sits 2m away from me, i am pretty confident that it wont bother coworkers as i tend to watch things on the lowest or second lowest possible volume setting.
Getting the 900s mainly for gaming and over the 990s for the fact that they’re easier to drive and have a detachable cable. I think the difference in price is worth it
Wait you spoke about the TYGR in relation to the older Beyer models, but you didn't compare them to the DT900... I was so happy to see that the comparison was going to be made between the 2 headphones I'm trying to decide between, and then it didn't happen for some reason lol. So far I think I'll be going with the TYGRs.
Sundaras need higher end source gear and are less suited for gaming. Competitive gaming on planars is disorienting, in my experience. Already have a nice amp/dac and don't plan on gaming? Sundaras imo
For me, I will choose the Sundara over the 900 Pro X. For a lot of reasons. But this is kind of difficult to drive, well you need another DAC/Amp for this to show the full potential of the Sundara. In most cases, the 900 Pro X will be your fit. Since it's just a 48-ohm headphone, you can plug it anywhere. You can plug it on an audio interface just working pretty fine. That said, just to make sure that you're audio interface's headphone amp's output impedance is low, like 3.00 below..This is important for a lot of long reasons.
@@Rasyad95 The way they render depth makes it difficult to rely on in competitive shooters. I was never quite sure how near or far noises were coming from. For "immersive" gaming they're fine. Maybe other people have had different experiences
@@bla_ank i see, thanks man. I guess HD800 is still the 'king' of soundstage. But imo they still lack the center imaging capabilities, so I'm looking for a cheaper, more gaming oriented headphone. I guess sundara is not it.
Hey there, After some time, did you think it was worth it to have a closed back good headphone next to the TYGRs? Sometimes, I think about it, but then don't pull the trigger on the DT770 80 Ohm's
Exactly the video that I need to finally decide my 770 250ohm just died and I was thinking about going for the another 770 or the 700x and tbh the 700x look really promising for the use I'm going to give them love how in depth you analyze all the headphones
I have a tygr 300r professionally modded to have a detachable cable and a mmx300. I use the tygr to hear music at work and the mmx300 to game. Use them with sound blaster g6 without filters.
Why does nobody talk about the Tygr 300r? This is the first video I have seen that even mentioned them and how great they are. Especially for the price.
Nice, cannot wait for the prices for AUS. I have been on the fence between price, models, work/gaming/entertainment, and looking into closed backs for isolation and in case office use. Really appreciate how you go into the finer details and look for covering all questions or thoughts we might have. This has made the decision on which Beyerdynamic headphones to get much simpler, ending countless predicaments. Love your content and looking forward to more Brian!
Totally just depends on what you like. High end on the 300R is smoother, wider soundstage, and its more comfortable. 900 Pro X is less comfortable, much more aggressive highs, but better detail.
@@aki-001 i bought the 900 proX since this, and unless you’re specifically looking for a 250 ohm headphone, go with the 900 proX! especially for gaming, the proX is a no brainer. 1990s are a little smoother, but the proX has a little more detail in the mids and i think a wider soundstage because the ear cups are less obstructed. the 1990 DOES sound a little better. like 7-10%, but you really need to be doing A/B comparisons and looking for that difference.
You can get a pair of Beyer's Amiron Homes for about $300 now. Same tesla driver as the 1990 and 1770. Open back, but the sub-bass actually extends really well. They chilled out the high end peak, but it's still kind of there. It's 250 ohm, so you need a decent setup to drive them, but you won't be disappointed. A Schitt stack is doing just fine for me. I love it for gaming and listening to music.
Bought the 900 Pro X. Waited over a month for back orders to ship out to Canada. Just received them and they are amazing. Definitely need an amp though, unfortunately.
So I've had the 900 pro x for more than a year now. Great sounding headphone but the pad at the top is literally designed to fail. After a month or two of use it starts to fall apart and is a MAJOR complaint from 900 pro x owners. The first pad fell apart after 3-4 months, I bought 2 replacements and the next one fell apart in less than a month. This is a massive design flaw and can't recommend the 900 pro x for that reason.

I thought about getting the TYGR for comparison, but...no, i dont need that, im so happy with 990 and open headphones are better than closed like 770.
The second you called out a specific frequency hot spot and that you EQ'd it out, I was like, SUB! Great to see a youtuber like you that actually knows detail, and provides real information that we need!!
So the Tygr 300 R is a better headphone for gaming than the 900 Pro X? Or what is your conclusion about these two? The 900 pro X is available for around 200€ if I buy them second hand from Beyerdynamic directly. The Tygr costs 144€ new.
Been using the 700 pro X's for about 5 days. They're cozy, isolate well, and don't have any sibilance. Imaging is moreso on a horizontal axis. Mids are a little quiet and the resolution isn't great. Bass is present but not overbearing, same goes for treble. I could easily use them all day for gaming or anything else when my family is being loud.

Also just knowing where I am at right now, closed back would better suit me from what I've heard
Just got a set of DT 900x’s and it’s a really interesting headphone. Completely free of the Beyer high frequency bump, the frequency response is *very* close to what I’d call neutral as someone who uses studio monitors daily with room tuning software. The low end reproduction on them is the best I’ve heard outside planar’s. I LOVE the low end on them, not goosed at all just really legible and rich sounding without being obtrusive. Highs are right where I like them: crisp and sparkly but not obnoxious, well balanced. The mids are where I’m not sure yet. There is something slightly “dampened” feeling about them, compared to the 6xx, it doesn’t jump out at you as detailed in that region. I will say, they haven’t had time to burn in yet so things could still open up there. Soundstage is excellent but not super wide, def more open than the 6xx but the 900x really feels like a semi open back, a middle ground. Which I support cuz of that delicious bass! Time will tell, they are super comfortable on my big head. Easy cans to wear, move around devices and listen without ear fatigue :)
Fyi the headband from the Tygr300r fits on the DT770. Its called the custom headband and is sold separately on beyers websites for 15€ (though I dont know if its available in the US). Swapping in the custom headband improved the comfort of the 770s a lot for me.
I have both the 990 and 900. The 900 sounds closer to a semi open back/closed headphone imo. The 990 feels much more open and wide. The 990 also sounds more detailed. But the 900 sounds more full. Music wise if you prefer fine detail and wider soundstage I think 990 is better. But if you can sacrifice a tiny bit of detail and openness for more full sound and slightly more bass, then 900 is better. Gaming wise 990 is more detailed in terms of precise soundstage. The 900 is decent, but in apex for example a lot of times I can tell that someone is in a 10m area based of the sound I hear. Rarely do I know the exact spot they really are. The 990 however most of the time I can tell exactly where they are. I've seen a few reviews making it sound like the 900 is better than the 990 on that aspect and I don't find it to be true at all. However a good dac/amp is required. I originally used the 990 on a soundblaster x4 and thought it was just okay. Then with the ifi zendac v2, it sounded much more detailed. The 900 sounded the same on the x4 and the zendac. Just good. Not special for gaming.
Great review! I'm quite curious about these. If I'll get one it will be the DT 900 Pro X, was thinking the DT 700 Pro X but not sure if I would like them as much. I've owned the DT 1990 Pro, DT 990 Pro, DT 880, DT 1770, T1 Gen 2, DT 150, and the Amiron Home in the past. Liked all of them but did felt a little meh about the DT 880. Have yet to own a DT 770 Pro and haven't heard the TYGR 300 R yet, but the TYGR's are on my listen/buy list. Currently only have the T1 Gen 3, which is love/hate for many but are my favorite Beyer.
Have you tried the 900 Pro X yet? If so, how do they stack up against the 1990 Pro's? I'm torn between the two. Is it really worth stepping up to the 1990's by dopping over $400 CAD?
@@NintenPizza Yeah, don't get the 1990s if ure not working in a pro studio where u need flat sound. Get the 700 if u want to have fun listening to music, or 900 if u do some audiowork on the side :)
@@shoobror8291 I was actually going to step it up and get the 1770 pro's instead, that, or the 1990 pro's for it's more spacial, open and wider sound stage. 1770's seem to excell in sub bass and sound more agressive though. I'd have to hear both to make a desicion i guess.
@@shoobror8291 I prefer the 900 pro x's over my DT770's(Closed back)....After I increased the bass with my EQ settings and used High gain, the 900's started to really shine. As expected, they sound more open and have a wider soundstage and the bass response isn't lacking at all. Vocals could be better though. Still going to try out the 1990s
Had a 770 pair for near a year hooked into a Schiit amp. They're so clear I can hear everything in an audio's production; great bass response is a big plus. Picked them up after seeing your review and wanting to try somethig other than Sennheiser. Highly recommend.
@@willsi how's the clarity? I'm torn between getting a 250 Ohm one or 80 Ohm. If I get the former I'll probably need to get a proper DAC/AMP on top of my current ones to get the best out of them
@@TF2ReplayMaker Honestly, the 80 Ohms are stellar. The highs and mids are super clear. I use a digital EQ and run in a Schiit amp. No complaints here.
@@willsi hmm... I don't have something as powerful as a schiit amp, I've just got portable DAC/AMPS mainly the Radsone ES100 Mk 1, and the Fiio K3S (2021 new edition) You think it's safe for me to go ahead with the purchase? Also, what did you EQ on your pair?
Dang I was torn between getting the TYGR 300 R's and the 900 Pro X, I was hoping for a direct comparison between these two! I'm assuming you enjoy the 900 Pro X more since it's versatile. Would the TYGRs be considered bad for mixing/producing? I'm trying to get a headphone for that as well as gaming.
I was also hoping to see that, and then he just didn't compare them for some reason... Going by Z Review's review of the TYGR, they're too coloured to be as useful for making music. They're both fantastic for gaming though, you couldn't go wrong there. Then other than that they have different characteristics for music listening.
I’ve got the 900s and I agree much better than the 990s. Was going to get the 700 or 770, I like to be able to crank the bass too, do you think the 700 would be best for producing higher bass? (Costs don’t matter)
Awesome review! I own the 770, 990, hd560s and now the 900 pro x. I agree completely with every point you made! I love the 900 pro x for gaming, amazing imaging and the perfect amount of soundstage. Thanks for always dishing out the heat reviews!
Just returned my 560s to buy these and try them out myself. Would love to know as well. I play all FPS's like warzone(shitty audio) apex, valorant, Fottnite.
Significant unit variation on the the DT 900. Somehow ended up with two of them. One is balanced, full bodied, and has bass that extends very well. The other one, is sterile, thin, and shrill.
Great video, the TYGR is def a hidden gem. It's my daily driver even if it's not as detailed or technical as my Sundara. With a small amount of EQ, the TYGR is really great for Music as well.
I recommend to try and EQ these a little, there are some Harman EQ Targets around. People should try them out with these as they add in the bass boost some might be missing from these without any EQ applied. It also tames some treble&cymbals being harsh, just adjust to preference if the stock EQ isn't to taste in all aspects.
I managed to score the DT990 250ohm here in Australia on a sale for about $100USD and the supplier got new stock which have a had a price increase. Happy I got mine when I did on sale 🥰🥰👍🥳. Very happy with the audio quality and highs are more then tolerable for me 👍. Great review Review Brian 🥰.
ive had a pair of 990 pro limited edition 80ohm's for over a year now. by far my favorite headphones ive ever used for gaming on the pc. paired with my schitt stack they sound awesome!
Love your content.. I am planning to buy the Dt 900 pro x, primarily for competitive gaming(warzone, Valorant) , I am aware it only requires 40 ohms, in that case do I still need a DAC amp for better sound quality ?
I got Beyerdynamic MMX 300 with a studio level mic and great headphone overall. worth the money! planning to try the DT 770 but I think it's gonna have the same sound
Loved the vid! 🔥 Which one would be less likely to make tinnitus worse - DT 900 Pro X or TYGR 300 R? What do head-fiers who suffer from tinnitus demand in headphones from a technical standpoint (low/high treble, neutral vs warmer, strong highs, etc..)?
The modern version of DT770 (80 Ohm) has a rather active and tinted middle (there is no smell of any U-sound there anymore). A sort W-shape, where the left stick (bass) is lower than the other two.
Oh yeah, just finally added the Sennheiser HD6XX to my cart and was wondering about another pair....would like to know where these fit in in comparison?
Hd6xx have zero sound stage in comparison and need a good amp to drive them they also roll off bass and terrible these are much better in my opinion however if you listen to lots of vocal focused music and like a chill sound hd6xx is a better pick it has incredible timbre quality.
As always great review man! You recommend the dt900pro x or turtle beach stealth pro for gaming( for footsteps, fps games)? Can’t decide myself.😅 Thank you!
How do the 900s compare to something like a sundara? I got those last year and my one complaint about them is they are a little on the heavy side for me. I’ve also been looking for something that’s good for music and immersive single player gaming and I’m sensitive to highs, so the 1990 pro scares me off. Great video as always!
Great video. Will check out that nebula , things are getting to centralized over here.. the open backs are temping.. but i think u just need to be in the right environment..
Hmm. Very interesting. Still on the 770 80/250 Ohm train for $160ish but we'll see. At that price point they are very competive. The $300 price point is a whole new ball game in terms of competition.
I'd say stay on that train tbh. You're 100% correct about the price point comparisons. I could make an hour long video just talking about all the open backs at $300.
For someone who mainly use for gaming/youtube and a little bit of music, what would you recommend between 900 and Tygr 300R? For your information my previous headphones are Massdrop 990 premium.
Joshua Valour and DMS and others may objectively be better but I find Zeos' reviews more useful.
lmao
I prefer my Headphone mids to give me a little Chicken flavor... but like Chicken without the Skin because it's healthier! Now that's a tasty HP Sound Signature!!
That's because it's largely subjective so they create their own vocab to make their personal impressions sound more objective / scientific.

I'm actually getting rid of my 900 Pro X's and upgrading to the 1990's, simply because the 900's(and 700's) suffer from a veil-like filtered effect that's masking the clarity or audio.

To sum it up for gamers/normal listeners that want a pair of Open Back Headphones (in my opinion, sorry if its bad English)
1. Dt 1990 pro is the best overall for gaming and normal tasks
but the price difference is not 100 - 200 dollars worth more (They are quite better but not so much better) = if you dint mind spending a bit more these are the headphones for you.
These are really good performance for the money = If you don't want to spend to much and will mostly/only use it for gaming these are the headphones for you
- They are Open back so they leak sound but gives you a lot better view of your surroundings = Good for Fps, Open World, Racing Games.
- They are all comfy but can be a bit thight when new but will get better over time
I am not a professional but i payed a lot of attention to what he said and for a Normal Person that plays a lot of games and does daily stuff this is what i summed up.
I think i will pick between the Dt 1900 Pro or 900 Pro X depending on how much cash i want to spend. (There will come sales at some point where these headphones will be cheaper if you want to wait)
Hope this helped anyone out there
Thanks for covering these. It is looking more and more likely that I'll finally be upgrading my old 770 Pro 80. I'm still holding out for more opinions, but that 700 is really looking promising for a better closed back that won't make me shy away due to the price. Props for the TYGR mention too!

Its not worth it. Amps and dacs dont make a difference if your source can bring them to appropriate volume..
@@christianoberreiter5011 I actually ended up pulling the trigger on the zen, I must admit that for music listening the bass boost on the zen DAC gave it the punch it was missing. Personally i think it's worth it if you have the money, however I can only speak on this combo of 🎧 and amp/DAC.

Fantastic product review. Appreciate your "matter of fact", straight forward approach to the DT700 / 900 PRO X series. Wanted to upgrade from my Sennheiser's, both in closed and open
back models.
The open
back sound stage is not too loose or "crazy open" to where you cannot get the job done with your recording needs.

@@machmutdoener I had the same experience with the 990 Pro's, The 900 Pro X is totally different, smoother highs / trebble. Still BT's are sharper / brighter then the Sennheiser HD 5XX / 6XX series.
What was your choice btw 700 and 900 ? and what do you think about if please Mickey ? :)
How are they holding up? Im really considering buying them
@@mkapp8724 They're doing great.
Really appreciate your breakdown for the 700 vs. 900 - I'm not looking for sound isolation and was about to buy the 700 aha. Thanks a bunch :)
900 Pro X or Sundara? With them being so close in price, that’d be the battle for me coming up on Black Friday. What would you choose?
Sundaras need higher end source gear and are less suited for gaming. Competitive gaming on planars is disorienting, in my experience. Already have a nice amp/dac and don't plan on gaming? Sundaras imo
@@bla_ank can you share a bit more on the disorienting part? Thinking of one but I came across your comment
Great breakdown...and reinforcing my confidence in previous purchases.
Have my bases covered with the TYGR and 177X.

After some time, did you think it was worth it to have a closed back good headphone next to the TYGRs?
Sometimes, I think about it, but then don't pull the trigger on the DT770 80 Ohm's
Exactly the video that I need to finally decide my 770 250ohm just died and I was thinking about going for the another 770 or the 700x and tbh the 700x look really promising for the use I'm going to give them love how in depth you analyze all the headphones
I have a tygr 300r professionally modded to have a detachable cable and a mmx300. I use the tygr to hear music at work and the mmx300 to game. Use them with sound blaster g6 without filters.
That's a big brain move.
@@badseedtech I've seen a video on TH-cam on how to do It, It's pretty easy, I'm sure you could do it with your amazing switch soldering skills. :D
Why does nobody talk about the Tygr 300r? This is the first video I have seen that even mentioned them and how great they are. Especially for the price.
So, not worth getting the 900 pro X if you have the tygr?
Nice, cannot wait for the prices for AUS. I have been on the fence between price, models, work/gaming/entertainment, and looking into closed backs for isolation and in case office use.
Really appreciate how you go into the finer details and look for covering all questions or thoughts we might have.
This has made the decision on which Beyerdynamic headphones to get much simpler, ending countless predicaments.
Love your content and looking forward to more Brian!
Would you recommend the 900 Pro X over the TYGR 300R for general light studio work, gaming, music listening, etc.?
Totally just depends on what you like. High end on the 300R is smoother, wider soundstage, and its more comfortable. 900 Pro X is less comfortable, much more aggressive highs, but better detail.
@@badseedtech Thanks for the response! Cheers brother.
@@badseedtech have you tried bending the 900 X yet? I got a big ass head so I'm worried about it being too uncomfortable.
writing before finishing the video...my dt1990 are my lifeblood. i've never been able to find something i like better. lets see how this goes!
did you buy the 900 pro-X? is the difference that big to justify extra $$$ for 1990?
@@aki-001 i bought the 900 proX since this, and unless you’re specifically looking for a 250 ohm headphone, go with the 900 proX! especially for gaming, the proX is a no brainer. 1990s are a little smoother, but the proX has a little more detail in the mids and i think a wider soundstage because the ear cups are less obstructed. the 1990 DOES sound a little better. like 7-10%, but you really need to be doing A/B comparisons and looking for that difference.
Good Vid. I own both the 900 pro x and 1990 pro and I prefer the 900 pro x. It's cheaper, more neutral and more versatile.
Do you still feel this way a year later? I want 1990's ... real bad. Thinking about sending back Edition XS to get them.
I was hoping to hear that they had improved their pads by now, since I just got one of these...
The headband pad you mean?
Thanks for the reviews! I've tested multiple HD 5XX and HD6XX series of Sennheiser and i found that the DT 700 / 900 Pro really fills the gap between de HD 5XX and HD6XX series. I find the DT's compared to the HD6XX abit more closer in your face / head but lacks mid range compared to Sennheiser. Trebble is abit more harsh then the HD Series, but not to much. The base has abit more punch. Soundimaging of the 900 is better then my HD 660S which says allot. Still my HD 660S has a higher fidelity picking up details and crisp sounds.
I really start to feel that you are a frank and honest guy. Our goal is to get the most out of the money we spend. We have the same taste on spending money.
I have 770&700 and for some reason I feel like 770 much warmer and have more sub-bass than 700.
770 - 3 years, 700 - 1 week
My son has DT770 PRO 80 Ohm and since 0ne week, i have the DT990PRO Black with 80 Ohm for my PC. I listen music und make gaming and...im still drolling.
So would you recommend the 700 Pro X for someone like me that is tired of "gaming headphones" that are terrible quality and break within 2 years of use and have terrible audio quality.
Just looking for a pair of new headphones to game with, impossible to find
@@NorthernLaw_ sure if you're in a loud environment. If not get the senn 560s for 50 bucks less. Both are comfortable as hell for long sessions with great audio
@@Jakems28 Money isn't an issue for me, just trying to get whatever I need that will enable me to not have to buy a new pair every year or so, because this is getting ridiculous. I'm not in a "loud" environment, but I think without the ability to try it out, I'd rather get a closed back headphone. Also just knowing where I am at right now, closed back would better suit me from what I've heard
The 700 pro x's are built very well. I wouldn't worry.
@@Jakems28 Going to look more into them and a Dac/Amp to get for them as well. What do you use for a Dac/Amp?
How are the details now after burning in compared to the hd6xx ?
Sooo glad I sent DT990 pros back and got HD560s instead.soo much better and comfortable.Great video as usual
Fyi the headband from the Tygr300r fits on the DT770. Its called the custom headband and is sold separately on beyers websites for 15€ (though I dont know if its available in the US). Swapping in the custom headband improved the comfort of the 770s a lot for me.
Yeah its great. I had one on the Special Edition 880 I had as well. Not sure why they all don't just come stock like that.
This review is perfect! Literally answered everything I needed to know in order to make a decision on this purchase.
Thanks👍
I have the Tygr 300r but the cable broke so I am looking for new headphones. If you have any recommendations for an upgrade let me know.
@@Mr.Dodo- do a plug cable mod on them
Great review!
Damn, I love the T1 gen 3 as well! Absolutely an amazing pair, but I do understand why some people don't really like them.
Flat sound is boring, and only needed for pro work. 700 pro's are way more fun than any of them, for normal use. Get the 700 if u want to have fun listening to music, or 900 if u do some audiowork on the side :)
@@shoobror8291
I was actually going to step it up and get the 1770 pro's instead, that, or the 1990 pro's for it's more spacial, open and wider sound stage. 1770's seem to excell in sub bass and sound more agressive though. I'd have to hear both to make a desicion i guess.
@@shoobror8291
I prefer the 900 pro x's over my DT770's(Closed back)....After I increased the bass with my EQ settings and used High gain, the 900's started to really shine.
Did you get the 80 ohm or 250 Ohm variant?
@@TF2ReplayMaker 80 Ohm.
I don't have something as powerful as a schiit amp, I've just got portable DAC/AMPS mainly the Radsone ES100 Mk 1, and the Fiio K3S (2021 new edition)
You think it's safe for me to go ahead with the purchase? Also, what did you EQ on your pair?
I'm not sure why, but that smile with the intro just made my day. You earned a sub for that.
Closed back have more Bass for sure
Which one should i get if i usually listen to neoclassical, postrock, lofi and also some light AAA and FPS gaming?
So overall which are better? DT 900 Pro X or Tygr 300r for overall use? I don’t play shooters, just casual games and listen to music.
Tygr. 900x isn’t good music headphones.

@@zahitemremetin606 yes and I've have watched already but it's always good to know about others people opinion. Sorry about my English..
The sharp top end of the 990 is caused by the pads. I switched to perforated leather. All pad swaps kill the treble spikes.

It also tames some treble&cymbals being harsh, just adjust to preference if the stock EQ isn't to taste in all aspects.
tygr 300 vs dt900 pro x ? which should I get ,does the 900 justify the 150$ premium

Great review… description of the 700 pro x matches my experience.
I love the DT1990 Pro's, been using them stock for over a year and sold my HD 58x and Sundaras.
How's the Sundara for gaming compared to the beyers? Some said the imaging is kinda iffy for gaming, is that true?
Great vid. One question Tygr or dt 900 pro x for gaming, cutting and music?
Hey Brian you should get a unit of the Yamaha YHE-700a really under the radar and I think it'll pique a lot of people's interests for music listening.
Thank you for s great review! I like the soft earpads and the detachable cable on the 700/900 Pro X, but I'm concerned about the clamping force.

Dude, I've been researching headphones and ended up on your channel. I love the reviews and the vibe...already subscribed!
This is literally the best possible answer to this question. You sir, know your stuff.
Good to know that the 770's are better for gaming. I bought these last year and now I saw these new ones and fortunately don't have to upgrade

I can concur, bought one after this review. Cable hitting my should is annoying but getting use to it.
How do the 900s compare to something like a sundara? I got those last year and my one complaint about them is they are a little on the heavy side for me. I’ve also been looking for something that’s good for music and immersive single player gaming and I’m sensitive to highs, so the 1990 pro scares me off. Great video as always!

Hmm. Very interesting. Still on the 770 80/250 Ohm train for $160ish but we'll see. At that price point they are very competive. The $300 price point is a whole new ball game in terms of competition.
For me the 770 250ohm at the price is still a no brainer but the new one is definitely solid
I'd say stay on that train tbh. You're 100% correct about the price point comparisons. I could make an hour long video just talking about all the open backs at $300.
