      Tonally they're pretty much THE best closed back headphones out there. They have the most ideal Harman curve of all closed back headphones if you like this type of sound. The build quality is the only concern, they're not durable.

    Mostly reflects my thoughts, although I'm finding the comfort lacking due to the extra weight and clamp force over the older 770/990/880. Its no less comfortable than the 1990 though but not really something I'm happy wearing all day

      @@InaktiverUser No, I think the DT 700 Pro X is better than the DT 770, but not 100€ better. Both still have horrible timbre and bad tonal balance and are not worth it for music enjoyment.

      I also didnt like the fit & comfort. The pads of the new ProX are NOT deeper and thicker, they are even a bit smaller mostly due to the rectangular shape. Additionally the Foamdiscs of the new Pro X models stick out more in the center part, taking away some Depth (770 and 990 have a flat surface). The headband was also a bit hard.
      IMO the old models are super comfy and look huge besides the compact new ProX...

    Just picked up a set of the 900x’s and they’re really an interesting headphone to me. I’m a producer/songwriter/musician and they sound “neutral” to me. I use studio monitors with room calibration software and going back and forth is really comfortable. My first impression: these have my favorite lowend of any headphone I’ve tried outside of planars. It just feels like bass in a well controlled room to me. Never boomy, extremely detailed and nimble but unobtrusive. I like the tuning of the highs a lot, it avoids the ear fatiguing bump of other Beyer’s. The mids are where I’m not sure yet. They do actually sound slightly “dampened” compared to my Senn 6xx. Detail retrieval isn’t as good in that range, BUT, I still need to burn them in. Could open up more. I like the soundstage for mixing a lot. It’s not crazy wide or anything but everything is clearly delineated in the stereo field. Long story short: these are really comfortable for me as someone who relies on monitors primarily. They feel like a solid “Jack of all trades” middle ground for the work I do :)

    • @bc_beats
      @bc_beats 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m very close to pulling the trigger on these as well. Sounds like your low end translates well from these headphones to the car, phone speaker, etc?

    • @mrnelsonius5631
      @mrnelsonius5631 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bc_beats it does. I’d say the low end and the transient response is my favorite aspect of these cans. The low end isn’t boosted, so it’s not a bass head kind of frequency response. But what’s there feels tight and well represented going to sub. The weakness is midrange detail IMO; the Sennheiser 6xx feels more resolving in that range for example. I prefer the lows on the Beyers though a lot. The other aspect to be aware of is that the 900x isn’t super wide sounding. Image/soundstage is good but airs closer to the intimate side for open backs. But nice, balanced, punchy representation of the music. Definitely my fav Beyers I’ve tried.

      The DT900 Pro x's are pretty awful imo. They barely sound that much more open than my DT770's. But that's not the real issue here. Unfortunately, the 900 Pro X's sound like there's a veil masking the clarity and vocals, everything sounds muffled and filtered. Where as the DT770's sound pretty crystal clear, more natural, and you can really pick out the fine details. Night and day difference really, although the DT770's have a little less warmth to them, but surprisingly sound open and spacious for a closed back. the DT770's truly are one of the best bang for your buck headphones that well surpasses it's sticker price imo.
      Short answer. pony up the cash for a pair of DCA E3's. :P

    I tried many headphones today which include the dt 990, dt 900, dt 1990 and hd 650 (with proper dac/amp in musicstore). Out of the box the dt 900 sound best in my opinion. The dt1990 were a touch better in soundstage and bringing things subtly, but were incredibly harsh, for me it wasnt just around the 8khz but the entire high frequency range. To me, for my kind of music (lets say tech house, techno, trap instrumentals, dubstep and hardstyle), dt 1990 were not more detailed than 900. So it was most definitely not worth 200 euro's more, especially if you need to eq it or buy custom filters/pads. Also dt900 easier to drive was convience for me not buying headphone amp but running it straight out of audio interface. Ended up buying dt 900 for mixing and mastering, I think they sound crazy good for the experiences i've had. In the end if possible, I would recommend trying out a lot headphones if possible to make the best purchasing decision for you. Also please dont kill me for having an opinion

    • @Alex-bl8uh
      @Alex-bl8uh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I found the difference in detail to be huge. Soundstage was also better on the 1990. Yes the beyer peak is there and you should eq that. Also I highly recommend using the balanced pads instead of the analytical ones. So in my opinion the 1990 are better. With that said. The 900 pro x sound very good for its price and i really liked the frequency response out of the box. You just plugged it in and they were fine and enjoyable. Gaming also great with these.
      In contrast to the review though I really cant recommend the 700 pro x. They dont have the advantages of the 900 pro x (frequency response, soundstage) and are just always lacking that detail.

      Right now, my daily drivers are these and the Shure SRH 1540s. Perfect compliments for me. The Shures are wide with excellent midrange detail, but also very relaxed. Not fast and a little looser in the low-end. The 900x are tighter in the lows, nimble with a more “solid” presentation, just not quite as detailed. Frequency response wise they are both “neutral” enough and well balanced for the work I do. I think the 900x are more fun and the Shures are more analytical.

      I'm in a similar boat deciding between the HD 560s and DT 900 Pro X as I want to try open back, from the research I've done it sounds like the 560s are fully open back with more detail while the 900 Pro X is semi open back with more bass which I see benefits to both depending what I'm listening to. I'd probably be getting a Fiio K3s to run them out of which feels like a little bit of a waste to just use with 120 ohm headphones hence part of the reason I'm looking at DT 900 Pro X plus the build quality looks much nicer though I'd probably have to order them from Australia as nowhere in New Zealand sells them unlike the 560s... I'm quite split right now.

      I have the DT 700 PRO X and I'm using it for listening to music and playing PC games. My amplification stack is the Schiit stack (Modi 3+ and IEMagni). I play RPG, MMO, and FPS games and the DT 700 PRO X doesn't disappoint me, even one bit. This is subjective, because each person's hearing capability is different, but to my ears, the DT 700 PRO X sounds excellent. Despite it's closed back, but the soundstage and directional audio clues are quite phenomenon. In BF1, I'm still able to detect footsteps, screams, explosions, and gunshots comfortably. When it comes to Guild Wars 2, the slight-boosted bass adds some epicness to the sound, makes the game more fun to play, without overwhelming details and conversations. Of course, there's no Beyerdynamic's harsh trebles here, just smooth and engaging sound. Kinda reminds me of the Sennheiser HD 6XX, but with boosted bass. Hope this info help.

    • @QuangFarrellNguyen
      @QuangFarrellNguyen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey @@e234darkrock, I also have the HD 560S in my possession. Comparing to the DT 700 PRO X, the HD 560S sounds airier and more open. The HD 560S also has more details, but, to my ears, not by much. I'm talking about 10% (max) and mostly subtle details, not the important ones.
      This happens to me when I use the HD 560S for gaming, when I crank up the volume in order to hear footsteps, gunshots, and other audio effects better, not only they sound pretty harsh, but everything is no longer directional and distinctive. It's like I'm in a pit at a rock concert. I don't have that issue with the DT 700 PRO X, I think it's because of the closed back, so whatever is on the left-hand side, will stay on the left-hand side, the same for the right side.
      I hope these descriptions help, and again, these are my opinions and what I hear through my ears. Your mileage will vary.
      I'm also thinking of buying the foam discs of the 1990 PRO and try them on the DT 700 PRO X to see if they'll help with adding more details and airiness into the overall sound signature and balance out the lows just a tiny bit more.

      @@e234darkrock It really depends on your preference, natural hearing capability, and the surrounding environment.
      My 900 PRO X is currently backordered, and it's gonna take about 3 weeks from now for NA Beyerdynamic to ship it to me, so I can't say anything about it yet. I'll definitely let you know how it sounds, compared to the 700 PRO X. My preliminary prediction is that it will have the imaging of the HD 560S, slightly more sub basses, slightly more trebles, while the midranges is somewhat similar.
      If you're playing games in a semi-noisy or downright noisy environment, the 700 PRO X will be your best bet. If possible, you can order both the 700 and the 900 and have a good listening session with them. More specifically, 4 to 5 hours.

That is compared to HD600 and Sundara, but I also have higher end headphones and IEMs like IER-Z1R, ThieAudio Monarch, Denon D9200 and Focal Utopia, so I have heard enough to know what detail is. No, these Beyers don't match a Utopia in detail, but for their price, they are not lacking it at all IMO. And like I said, how do you measure detail anyway? How can we prove something is more or less detailed? Both DT900 and 700 are great in terms of distortion, impulse response and decay across the board - check the measurements at DIY Audio Heaven. Isn't that the best objective evidence we have so far of detail? I am impressed with the separation of both and both sound subjectively more detailed to me than the K371, which I also own.
