If they all adopted a 90 day visa waiver or a 90 day visa stamp on entry for a nomial fee per country in south east Asia would be really more beneficial throughout the region IMO.

Thanks Ben. From a gut feel and what a friend who spent most of his life in Asia as well a U.S. intelligence and immigration security alluded to, Having a 90 day limit for visitors to all ASEAN countries (similar to the Schengen Zone in Europe so many despise) in addition to increased travel requirements, restrictions and surveillance will be an expected be part of such an ASEAN visa scheme.
My friend who's deeply involved in analysis and strategy for agencies and governments in regards to international travel, global security and now climate governance, strongly indicated at the beginning of the pandemic, that dramatically curtailing and restricting global travel is essential to save the planet, and I and my American Passport will be seen as a Pariah, and my ability to travel will nothing like I have come to know.
Will my friend's predicted future become reality, now that countries and industries devastated by the last few years be able to resist global climate governance, or will our Jet Set era come to a close? If the global climate regime has it's way however, the borders and limits of our world may be only 15 mins away,

presently doing the max visa length them moving to neighbour makes sense until can return to number one choice. that is my idea but previously getting a five year malaysia as second home was a great option. The lengths allowed to stay is the key I understand no work. For example three months each country maybe.

You might not want Thailand to govern your Laos or Vietnam visas .

So where it is going to be necessary to go to do a "visa run"?

Well, the problem I see with government is the right hand doesn't always know what the left hand is doing now! throw in a dozen hands and what you got is a free for all.
