If you rely on a state pension then they do have some reasons to control state expenses. As for America i do agree it may come to that too monies paid out in state pensions are a big cost to the gov't. An as you said we pay here we want the money spent here, there can be a good argument for that too. As a Canadian we spent more time outside the country it affects our medical in country. We also have as you call it a state pension but i would not think you can live on it outside Canada. An as you have said you better read the full document and not cherry pick the parts you like too. Just chasing the normal people who live abroad on a small income but this changes immediately for diplomatic people or people who work long time in the embassies abroad: they even get a luxurios salary with all kind of benefits. The politicians wil always take care they will have enough now and when they retire!!!!

Generally, pensions are a significant expense for most developed countries, and we should not be surprised to see them try to chip away at them through one means or another.

These terrible UK pensioners whilst illegal migrants fleeing France and getting free hotels, food , heating, a money allowance and free to walk in the community. Money for illegal migrants but pensions that you paid in must be clawed back.

This is why I'm giving up my retirement visa and spending less than 180 days in Thailand. The so called little amendment that started in January 2024 has possible major impacts. I know it does for me. Everyone should have a look at what their home country says about living abroad.

The current UK gov has been shown to see the elderly as an easy TAX pot that won't complain or have a limited impact on their re-election. They think the majority of pensioners are millionaires and cash-rich. They are trying to make changes that all pensioners can have their bank accounts looked at without notification for the purpose of assessing benefit fraud. Not if suspected of fraud but as a preemptive. Those are disgusting gov ideas.

Uk government will take whatever they can from indigenous peoples and give it to our replacement!! And if you complain about it they will label you bigot etc and chuck you in jail!

Ben the reason that Australia is exempt is they are also claiming an Australian pension, so they get the British one that is at whatever the determined rate is, and then the Australian one is paid to them, less the value of British pensions ( income tested, simplified the explanation) but that is why it doesn't go up

This is only the tip of the iceberg with the DWP's - Department of Work and Pensions - crackdown on benefit /pension claimants. In the UK the State Pension is classed as a 'Benefit' not an entitlement. The UK pension is the lowest in the G7 countries and probably the G20, or is that 19 now Russia is out? If a UK pensioner goes into hospital for an extended period their pension will be stopped, likewise, if they went to prison it would be stopped. The COLA is based on the inflation in the UK and not in the country a pensioner lives in and legally claims their pension. As a British pensioner all I can say is it SUCKS!

If a Australian currently living abroad, reaches pension age , 67, to receive that pension , the must return to Australia and reside there for 2 years , then can return overseas with that pension

it's a double edge sword. Cats and dogs are chipped in Australia to extract fees, which I don't agree with and manage stray and feral animals and make pet owners responsible for their pets. As a person that hasn't got pets I find it annoying that dogs can roam the streets and crap everywhere. Feral cats are a huge problem, killing wildlife at an extraordinary rate. Stray chipped animals can be reunited with their owners and the owners are made responsible for the whereabouts of their pets. Stray unchipped animals are rehomed or euthanised.

For retirees who do, or can, make $80,000 per year in unearned (not from work) income, I fail to see how a nonimmigrant O or OA visa is a better deal than the LTR visa. Yes, the LTR costs 50,000 ThB, but that's a lot less than the 800,000 ThB that has to be kept in a Thai bank account year after year. The 750,000 ThB difference is much better kept invested back in one's own country.

Maybe chipping pets would finally create liability for accidents involving animals. Right now nobody takes responsibility if for example a dog causes a traffic accident or bites a pedestrian.

There are plenty foreign agents from the US, UK,Israel, Russia, China.......

A much more effective change would be to make changes to the arrival slots for international flights. I arrived before 6am, found most of the immigration stations unmanned, and still had no line and walked right up to an immigration officer. They need to spread the load out so that the peaks are much smaller.

So, am I understanding this? Now possibly 2 digital systems & a physical interaction with boarder immigration. How long will it take to input information into the digital systems? Plus, additional time with immigration. Sounds like my time is becoming inefficient, so civil servants can have it easier. They'll probably ask the questions as they always do, except Farangs are now working for the Thailand government without pay. Next, they'll want us to get work permits😅.
