Your TH-cam postings are such a great relief from this crazy world. I'm 60 and have played guitar my whole life. The way you play guitar is so inspiring and uplifting... When you and your wife started playing songs off trick of the tail it made me cry. I haven't heard that music for so long. Such great renditions of difficult songs.. thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule.. to post these, so awesome.. you're playing your attitude is such a breath of fresh air keep it up..
I think the word is "eclectic" in your musical tastes. For me your gift is the ability to describe what you are playing without disturbing or diminishing the emotional content of what you are playing. You are completely connected to the music; left and right brain working in harmony. Thanks.
I had two friends tell me about your channel within a few days of one another. Bro, from ur stance on weed, to playing, to life, you're a covid relief support as far as I'm concerned. Please keep doing this even when the madness is over. Your soliloquy style of lessons is a breath of fresh air and something I look forward to. Kudos brother, you are touching lives even as we are sequestered away.
Elliott Smith, what a wild sad story. XO hit me like a train, keep going back to it, beautiful recording. Greetings from Australia Tom, hope this never ends.
Beautiful. You find so many gems. Lennon for me was the coolest beatle. Loved his stuff more than the other solo projects. Thanks Tom you provide that lift we all need each day. Bless you man.
Tom! Love your channel, great stories, education, humor and music! I had a blast working with you at CRC on the Van Ghost record w/Justin & Timm. Thanks for helping the world!
Tom, I have relatively recently discovered you homeschooling videos, and I love them. Your playing is sublime and as a relativel newbie it is so far over the line I cannot even see the line, but everything I watch one it makes me want to go and play. Don't stop making the videos. Little Ian.
I had that moment with U2 streets have no name. I always said I heard it a MILLION times but one day I actually LISTENED to it. Maybe you’re right Tom maybe it was my mood that day but wow what a song.
Man I agree with that comment about you being passionate when you were recording. I was thinking how you really were playing like every note was the most awesome thing you ever played, and how great the performance was as a result, and it hit me: THAT"S what people are paying for when they hire you. It seemed like everyone else was loving it too, at least Bryan said "this aint fun at all". It was a beautiful thing.
These videos never cease to just let me fall right off the cliff and get stuck here. You got an incredible ear from melody man. You're playing a Lennon song and it totally has your style written all over it
Pedal Empire shirt. Bring on the Aussies! I just loved that session clip you posted with you and Bryan. It really did feel like a privilege to watch that.
Plenty of phenomenal guitarists on utube, but very very few phenomenal musicians playing guitar.. If there is only take from your work, ........its that. Truly inspiring.
Hey Tom... My band endorsed Sunn back in the '60's. They literally gave us a wall of amps. The guitar player played a sunburst Les Paul (for which he paid $250.00) thru a Sunn PA head and a couple of different speaker cabinets. At least one of the cabinets was a PA speaker cab with a 15"JBL and a horn. There was a 3 position knob on the back to eq the horn. Everything weighed a ton, but it sure sounded good. Those were the days.
Elliot Smith is a total legend. A real crazy mix of Lennon, Macca and Harrison melodies over a obvious Ringo grooves. That kind of thing hit hard when I was younger too. I still refer to them from time to time.
JUst watched the video of you, Vince Gill and Pierce Avenue. Pierce took a lead break then Gill did and then you kick some ass and they panned over and Gill had this HUGE smile on his face. DUDE. LOVE it when I see amazing guitarist jamming and you can just tell when one LOVES what the other guy just did. SWEET MOMENT. LOVE you channel here, just AWESOME. Thank you!
Tom, I am grateful that you started sharing your experience and knowledge of music with the world. I spent YEARS listening to Elliott Smith. I was so sad when he died. (wrote a song about it in my 20s). His music was beautifully honest and his voice was so fragile and unaffected that there was no mistaking his intent.
Hey Tom, I play guitar every day but the best thing to come from you and this pandemic has been the music I've visited and revisited...Bowie, Skynyrd, STP, Thin Lizzy, The Cars and on and on...lots of those 'joyful' moments CHEERS!
...played golf with Steve Cropper a few years back ...i remember him telling me his favorite ground zero amp was a Sunn combo ...that was installed within a Fender chassis ...cheers Tom
Hey Tom. Huge fan here. Have been for years. Thank you for these insights over the last few months. I’m hoping I can be like you one day when I grow up. I love any musician that can totally make technique disappear only leaving music behind. Something I strive for. Anyway , thank you for taking the time to share x
Hey Tom, you speak of hearing the perfect song at the perfect time and it gives you a moment of transcendence, and that 'Mind Games' did that for you recently. You did that today by reflecting that back to us. Your playing of the vocal is beautiful. For me it was just one of those moments when it hit me and it was perfect. Thanks.
Hey man, you know how in some churches people get overtaken by the spirit and they close their eyes and their hands go up? As soon as you started the opening “vocal” melody the spirit overtook me! So, so moving… one of my favorite tunes. BTW, you kicked some serious ass at the Puyallup Fair a couple weeks back!!
Years ago, I co-owned a music store and someone brought in an old Sun amp with a 2 x 15 cabinet for service. When we cranked it up, we heard a bad rattle but couldn’t figure out if it was from the cabinet, or from the walls of the shop because the thing was so damn loud.
Aloha from Honolulu, Tom. Thanks for all the knowledge and inspiration. If you and the family ever make it to Hawaii, an island tour and Rolling Rocks are on me!
Multiple thoughts: Re: Transcendent music: You not only gave me that moment at the top of “class” but also sent me rocketing back to being 12 years old. I heard EVERY word as you played. Thanks for the lovely gift! Also, thanks for the tip on the cups being back in stock. Doin what I can to “collect em all!” In the Bük swag universe!! Final thought: As much deep dive twang data you present, the thing I’m coming away with the most is being inspired to play and practice again. That’s no small feat for a recovering jazzbo/jaded TV/Film guy that’s mostly played with the band in his head for the past 20 years. THANK you Maestro.
Kind of spooky the way you tlaked about mind games. Not listened to it for years but I killed for years. Whever I told people it was my favourite Lennon song they just shrugged thier shoulders and they quote his more famous stuff. Its haunting and he got so much emotion in the vocals without screaming his head of . Evoked the exact feeling you get when a woman messes with your head. genius as you said
Always blown away by your timing. I have been down that road as well, getting obsessed trying to play fast and it’s only later that I am trying to squeeze music out of every note. And it’s far more difficult but so worth it.
Elliot Smith, Either/Or! I love that record so much. The guitar solo on Cupid's Trick is one of my favorites ever. Super heavy buildup and a cathartic release. Thanks for all these videos, Tom. I'm picking up all kinds of weird great stuff and it's motivating me to improve.
I've never listened to "Mind games" and was kinda hearing "A Whiter Shade of Pale" but without a resolution! ... Will definitely check it out now. Thanks for the video. ✌
Keltner’s drumming, man I’ve been listening to Lennons solo album after Beatles. What a mind, what music, what a message. As a songwriter I remember back when I first realized how important a title was. “MindGames” it sounds like a hit movie. But my 2:30am guy tells me the song “Imagine” is probably the greatest song ever written. Only because songs have a responsibility and noble duty of containing lyrical content and purpose. His song “Imagine” is cleverly designed to invite the world to simply “imagine” a world where all are one. The most high. God bless.
I got to see Skyline Motel a few years back. They were really good, and of course Buk was killing it. One of the members of the band mentioned that Buk was about to go on tour with Joe Walsh. The shell pink Strat was soundin' great that night!
Thanks for the great content! The minimalist in me would love to see a video with you desert island picks: one guitar, one amp, one pedal, one record. Greetings from Sweden, Pablo

Hey Tom, intermediate guitarist here with a bit of a knack to create songs, though don’t know a whole lot on the theory side. When I watch your videos, not only do I get impressed by your playing but also your ability to know what you’re doing. I was wondering if you could give an overview of what your must know or most useful music theory/guitar concepts are, and if you were to learn it all over again in what order or sequence would you learn things in? Thx for making these videos and breathing some fresh air into the online guitar world... always know it’s gonna be a great day when lil tommy bukovacs got a new vid out
When you were playing the Lennon song I kept thinking Whiter Shade of Pale. Same chord progression I Believe. Also one of my favorite songs of all time. I found the not-too-distant past Procol Harum concert on TH-cam where they played Whiter Shade of Pale in & Outdoor Concert. Blew my mind how great that song was and by Far and Away better performance than I've ever seen of that song.

Hey Tommy! Just picked up a phaser pedal and I love it! Ever use them? Maybe it would be a good idea to teach the kids about how too much of a cool effect can ruin your tone and how less is more.I recently learned this on my own guitar journey and I've been focusing on dynamics. Goosebumps on that opening!! Wow!! You and that Les Paul are a match!!

Elliot Smith was a beast of a lyricist. 2:45 am is one of my favorite tracks off either/or.

Bill Fiora that was the building’s foundation you heard. Showed up on some seismograph reports as well.
Loosing yourself in what you're playing is totally the best feeling ever. The come back to reality is like waking up from a mesmerizing dream
Absolutely love them. Love - Feel Like Singing
Beautiful 🙏
That's a beautiful description of the perfect time/perfect song.

John Lennon's mind games...no words to say how out of this world Lennon's songwriting is and will always be.

Great reflection on the way music hits us so differently at different times. Such a powerful and elusive art form. Keep on doing what you do Tom.
The "Mind Games" chord changes remind me a lot of "Bell Bottom Blues".
The bass movement reminds me of Air on the G String by Bach
Yes, good comparison!
Whiter Shade of Pale too
🙏

Thank God on high, that after "working" all day, you can still take time and enjoy blessing us with your sweet skills.
I've never listened to "Mind games" and was kinda hearing "A Whiter Shade of Pale" but without a resolution! ... Will definitely check it out now. Thanks for the video. ✌

Ok, so Language of Love by Skyline Motel is phenomenal. Buk, you’re changing my life, man.

Uncle Larry you're doing great! Thanks for the knowledge transfer! Challenge: Let's see you and Sarah do something from the 80's hair metal style!
just brilliant. thanks
Had a mind games moment with my girlfriend earlier today, we were listening to Godspeed you! black emperors dead flag blues while walking through a thunderstorm, it was beautiful!
Tom!!! Can you PLLLEEEAASE demonstrate your use of the looper pedal?! And what you use! It's flawless how you use it.
Excellent start 👍🏻
beautiful
Letting go is everything.
Mind Games a la Ronson. Love it!
Hey Tom, love your videos. You are an amazing guitarist. Every episode you post is motivation for me to keep learning on this guitar journey. Just wondering what your favorite guitar is and why? God bless you and keep up the great work.
TOMMY! Those are some pretty tasty tones coming from that 🌞.
Mind Games- Lennon- Thank you!

Hey Mr B. Love Mind Games (and all The Beatles stuff, but who doesn't). These explanations of what makes a sing work so well, the little bits of music theory, are invaluable. What would you say are essential albums to check out to make you a more rounded musician? Thanks for all these great videos.

I would do that. If he doesn’t deserve one, who does?
I would definitely be in. The thought of him having to return this Burst to Gruhn breaks my heart.
Im in too he deserves it and this LP fits him
I am in too!
I’m in!
Listened to "Language of love" and surprise surprised I loved it.
Man these really are tasty guitars.
Even though you can cover different styles so well your own stuff doesn't fall into any category except that new style that's coming up the "Burkovac style" it's affecting a lot of us
I was just checking out Sunn, because of Leslie West.
