Ilja Gray Well, another band that I find kind of similar to Alvvays, perhaps just because I found it at around the same time, is a band called "Tops". I would listen to their entire album "Picture You Staring" on TH-cam over and over. Also, another band that I really like is called "Twin Sister" (although they have actually since changed their name to "Mr. Twin Sister"). They only really have one LP but they have a bunch of short albums.

Returning to this after taking a break because I listened to them so much I got burnt out. I think I could listen to this so many times again that I could get burnt out again. So freakin pleasing. I love the lyrics so much too

Their music is simply too good to be only known by Indie rock-adjacent folks. I think they truly are the best rock band in North America and their albums are incredibly consistent and good. This isnt subjective: I have friends that absolutely detest indie rock. They hate its pretentiousness they hate the angularness of the songs they hate the snarky lyrics.... When I slip in an always song, say, " not my baby " I just sit and wait for the inevitable point where they turn to me and go who's this? And what KIND of music is this?I really dig this. And usually your music sucks!" Sadly that question is never a satisfying one, bc Alvvays is so unique that there is no other band that sounds anything like them. Even if you melted down every Smiths, My bloody Valentine Cocteau Twins, and Lush album ever produced and melted it into one record, you'd still never have another Alvvays. In this case the sum is much greater than the parts. They're that good. By the way hearing this version of their self-titled album, without the lo fi, muffled production aesthetic reminds me of how incredible their ballads are , and how much I miss hearing the slow hypnotic pull of her voice and the repetitive licks thar Alex lays down when they write ballads. There are none on Blue Rev, and I miss them. Still an astonishing record!

honestly its a shame that none of their studio recordings capture how magical their sound truly is. sounds so dull in comparison to these live performances.

Aaron Atkins The best song on the album is probably Adult Diversion. Archie, Marry Me is a great song, but its greatest attribute is the fact that it's catchy.
