Power testing should be even more important with HX chips, which have fully(?) unlocked power restraints (hence simply marketed as "45W+").

That 5980HS is looking real nice. Just marginally lower performance for 22% less TDP.
I'm just waiting for Asus's TUF laptop reviews, those are going to be interesting.
Great Chopper look mate!!
Was gonna say he is looking like Uncle Chop Chop 😅
This mustache is 15% faster than the Intel counterpart.
5800H is the king, end of story
I find it odd how superior 5900hs is to 5800h in userbenchmark.
Could you add a mainstream desktop setup for comparison? Like Ryzen 5 3600 or i5-10600k...
Thanks for the video!
when you are too early that comments are not about the content but the great mustache.
Tim's mustache is in a power class of it's own. Above and beyond what anyone else has to offer. Unmatched performance in all workloads. Second to none technology with it's double handle bar layout.... All hail the 'stache of the century! :D
Can't wait for U series and HX series Ryzen 5000 mobile reviews. As well as more apples to apples and price/performance reviews of similar/identical mGPU setups.
That being said, CPU wattage monitoring is something I see lacking from these tests, yet again. I don't trust bios settings of x watts too much, especially when it comes to CPUs like the 10980HK, which technically is a 45-65W CPU, not a 45W by default. Power testing should be even more important with HX chips, which have fully(?) unlocked power restraints (hence simply marketed as "45W+").
Im interested in total System power draw measured at the wall outlet.
Love these Ryzen 5000 mobile soc's but a bit disappointed that they didn't include USB4, more PCIX lanes or AVI codec. They clearly have the better CPU cores and process node than Intel but the rest of the SOC a bit behind Intel
I'm coming from my 6yo Asus ROG G751JT with an Intel i7-4720HQ to one with the Ryzen 5800H... It's going to be beautiful!
Did the 4000 series even come to the mainstream properly...? I bought a 10th gen intel because I couldn't get a 4000 series.
I know I'm a bit late, but these days there is a massive selling-out of stocks with 4800H, and the prices are insane! I myself bought one laptop with 4800H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and dGPU GeForce GTX 1650 for only ~900 USD here in EU! I mean, obviously 5800H is the newer and flashier product these days, but it costs close to $2000 for comparable laptop and more if you demand proper dGPU as well! Meaning for those who are interested in high-performance laptop as a workstation rather than gaming station the 4800H laptops these days do deliver almost unbeatable performance/dollar ratio, the 4800H is still very much capable of pretty much anthing you want to do with it and it won't ruin your wallet!
I catch myself more and more, focusing on that amazing mustahce acrobatics, than the headline 0.o...
I do appreciate all your work guys, i really do!! But thats the only moving part in your videos.
Im not hating, just observing.
really solid review, thanks
5800H Yoga Slim Pro @ black friday €977,- with1TB SSD and 2800x1800 90Hz display running win10. Not a gamer, some photoshop use so i guess.. See you over 10 years! Comming from a still decent T440P 4300H on linux mint.
same laptop but with 512ssd, and 2,2k display (could get 2,8k 90hz u have but I hate glossy displays and i use laptop in light envirnoment so need something mate) for 720euro :D Could get same spec as u have for around 830-50
what about idle power consumption? did AMD improve or is intel still way better?
I did not expect the cinebench scores to be that much lower than ryzen 5 3xxx series desktop cpus.
Nice to see my 4900hs towards the top of charts still.
Good review as always!
Where are these laptops anyways. Nowhere to be found
I wish you started to include music production applications when doing benchmarks
Hey Tim and Steve, love your work, woould you consider reviewing the Sapphire rx 6800 Pulse, its the closest to MSRP here in NZ.. Still overpriced though but its cheaper than the nitro+ and the red devil. Thanks!
When will the flow x13 video come out ?
Bro I lost the silicon lottery on this one, my 5800H is underperforming even with all the tuning I did and the ppt I gave it was over 60 watts. Trust me, it performed 15% slower at 45 watts but still 10% slower than average even with 60 watts ppt.
Are you going to do a review on the Flow X13 as a laptop?
Not just the CPU.
Crazy that this is faster then my overclocked 1700 at almost the 1/3 of the power draw.
A future 5400G or 5200G APU mediacenter might even be faster then my main gaming system.
Great review
My words: insane cpu
My brain: insane stache
Is it worth waiting for Gen 3 architecture ? I almost bought a Lenovo Flex 14 with the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U, 16gb, 512gb at Costco due to the extra year of warranty and $200 cheaper than elsewhere online. But I then found other Lenovo models with better battery life 10+ . Looking at one particular model on MobileMark 2014 managed 17hrs. What do you recommend? Getting something now with AMD Ryzen 4700, 4750 or 4800U ? or wait for the 5000 series?
Good naming scheme, really well thought out, especially the zen 2 into 5000 series to confuse people and reuse unsold silicon
But its same with intel and nVidia.
@@fulldnbboy not really their old stuff is on sale 10600k for 220. 180 for 9600k. 9900k for 300, meanwhile amd stuff is out of stock, no midstream availability, and keep ryzen prices
@@theflemsterbflemming4088 you stated only naming scheme, not stock and sells. Given only names, then its same across all of them for some time.
How does AMD prioritize their product lineup? Is it CPU > Console > Laptops> Gpu ?
When will we have navi integrated graphics?
Didn't age well though. No undervolting, no memory tweaking, not even XMP in most cases. Microsoft didn't even implement that faster optimus thingy on 5000 series CPUs.
The comments are only about the mustache.
And that's fine.
Mustache. Also Intel is getting his arse kicked. So overall nothing unusual here, move along citizen.
I can't wait for 5800U laptops to come out!!! ...then never be restocked.
I really like your channel :)
Any data in regards to power scaling between 5600H, and 5800H? In my scenario, max power is less important, than efficiency?
A pricing error brought me here. I just happen to buy 2 of these laptops for $101 each. It’s currently in transit. I’m quite impressed. I know nothing about computers but that’s some pretty darn good graphics.
Do you have any Ultrawide monitor reviews on the way that might beat out the 34GN850?
As fast as a desktop...or are desktop chips now as slow as a laptop?
Nope a laptop with r20 single core 595 multi 5200 is faster than my old 3800x (516/5300). 2021 laptops are very fast now
How does it perform in a musicdaw? Fine demo thnx.
The Timestamp Guy is not here yett...
Where do you get the XMG in Australia?
That dirt squirrel on the face got me like 😳
How did Jarrod get 5k in cinebench R20 with this CPU?
is it the same with r7 5800HS?
I weep at these benchmarks owning a top of range 10980hk. If only there could be a top range amd laptop
I really wanted to see it in comparison to a Desktop PC with equivalent parts.
Dave's video y'day showed how the 5900HX performs
@Anime Sayian exactly, the 5900HX in that Zephyrus outperformed all Intel 8-core desktop CPUs (acc. to Dave's testing)
So the 5980HX would be even faster, even if slightly.
@Anime Sayian No clue, anyway I'm holding out this year, bcoz hopefully by next year DDR5 should land into consumer space.
Btw my brother really wants to buy the Lenovo Slim 7, but can't find the 16GB ram model, and it isn't even upgradable.
You have any clue from where the 16GB model could be bought?
@@sushimshah2896 coulldnt wait any longer pulled the trigger on a asus rog strix G17 5900hx 3070 115-130w and 85w for cpu fclk ram overclocking my old lenovo with amd 7300p getting tired
@@hannahtimson2526 Way to go girl! 👍🏻
How much did you get it for?? Hope you got the QHD spec unless you are an eSports player.
It should easily beat most 2080S laptops from last year.
5800H laptops are gonna be great....
For the scalpers that take all the supply and mark these up on Ebay.
Again, there is no APEX 17 in XMG line, only an APEX 15, with desktop CPU and GPU.
OK, found the relevant information on XMG's Reddit. It seems there will be 2 variants of the Apex in the future, one with mobile parts and one with Desktop parts (APEX 15 XL).
