Yeah...once she dropped the flaming archive on him his anger started fueling his power. Even in the fight he got WAY more aggressive, chaining together rapid combos and unblockables. Playing it on grandmaster was SO fun. One mistake and it was back to the start.
Indeed, even he had to admit he hadn’t had that kind of resistance in while. Also, it’s the perfect opportunity for him to learn from that experience out of many Sith.
Honestly I saw it as Vader admitting to himself that he was nearly bested. Normally he would talk mad shit to someone as they died or after. He just took his ass beating and went home with a hard fought W lol
Possibly the first real contest Vader has had since his rebirth. Cere's mastery of her fear makes her so much stronger than the terrified scattered Jedi he's used to hunting.
@@hello-gy6xk there was a master in the comics that dog piled him when he was still getting used to his suit, but still those are the only ones that gave prime vader a run for his money.
This whole sequence was peak Star Wars storytelling for me. From beginning to end. I mean. I can truly and honestly say I saw absolutely none of this coming.
I liked the fight but why is Darth Vader getting bitched by everyone now? First obi now cere. Vader is supposed to be that guy and they did him well in the last game but kinda bitched him here
@@_Papitobi_ and Vader is a sith Lord who beats Jedi masters before even having his morning coffee. Jedi master doesn't carry the weight you think it does. Not to mention he's the chosen one and had more raw power than anyone especially at this time. Dude spends 20 years hunting and killing multiple Jedi masters. The fight was amazing till the end. It would have been a good way to show cere was super powerful but still keep Vader as the oppressor he is.
Fanboys that are crying about Vader having to actually fight aren’t giving Cere any respect. She is clearly an extremely powerful Jedi Master and probably one of the few who would give Vader a decent fight. She isn’t some Padawan from the clone wars, she was a full fledged master before Order 66.
They be acting like he's a god, he's still Anakin burnt in a suit, the emperor nerfed him in purpose, even the grand inquisitor gave him a good fight If he was feared, it was for killing especially random Jedis, who also gave him a good duel in the comics, he rarely killed Jedis like Cere or Obi Wan
Not to mention, he still won. Showing Cere to have grown significantly and still loose makes Vader scarier than had he just shown up and killed her like it was nothing. Star Wars can't win sometimes.
@@Dan1el7493 Just saying: the emperor nerfing him is Legends and the Grand Inquisitor did not gave him a good fight. Vader was just testing his new suit (which was literally said during the duel) and ended it quickly after that.
I do agree, Cere is obviously immensely powerful, especially taking into consideration her Jedi master rank, but there are a few things about the fight that bothered me from a lore perspective. The first is that vader's suit is fireproof, so him being damaged by the eruption of flame doesn't make much sense. The second is that in the Kenobi series, Vader is shown to be equal at least to obi wan kenobi in power, if not stronger. He lasts much less long against Cere than against Obi Wan, and I personally think that that doesn't really make sense. Vader is more skilled and has more raw power than Cere, and I personally choose to believe the headcanon that he just underestimated her because she was so weak last time they fought. Cere is certainly a powerful Jedi though, don't get me wrong.
After this fight, I updated my lightsaber: Half Junda, half Tapal. Honoring the two masters who gave their lives to ensure that Cal and the future Jedi could survive.

Vader walked away from that fight L I M P I N G This duel was an instant favorite for me. Cere was an amazing character, and she will be missed. She really gave Vader the work, and I’m glad it was done so well.
Yeah I love Cere as well, she already got humiliated and owned by him in the Previous game, I was so relieved she wasn't disrespected here and died like a champ
Don’t get the love for this fight. The decision to have us play as cere was so bad should’ve been cal fighting vader. I mean we’ve grown with this character for 2 whole games and we have to fight vader as cere? Either way the fight shouldn’t have lasted long. Vader defeated multiple masters at once in the temple and he walks away limping from this? Stupid asf
@@Floydtimbdujbk_ Vader defeating multiple masters at once in the temple is exactly why it wouldn't make sense to face him with Cal. He's not remotely close to strong enough. But Cere shouldn't be strong enough either, and this fight makes it seem like Vader avoided her stab by sheer luck.
@@bard6184 you missed my point entirely I didn’t want a long fight if even a fight at all but if they really wanted a fight it should’ve been cal and it should’ve been 1 phase of Vader toying and coming out on top easily
I just... The fight. The cinematography of it. The music. Damn. And the subtle warning from his Master: "Tirila". She knew he would be devastated from this loss. She tried to give him a last lecture. Don't go the same way her Padawan did. Stay good. Face your pain and the darkness. Don't let it consume you. What a perfect star wars character. She will be missed.
I think what I love the most about this fight is how they did Vader’s lightsaber combat. Very rarely is the actual moves so eye catching that it actually draws my attention to them and not just when and how to react. Every movement and action of Vader’s feels immaculate, purposeful, each swing and strike leading into the next. On phase 3 it shifts into double time, he never stops except for brief moments, he mixes in force enhanced strikes with his normal ones without even changing the stance which if we didn’t have the red shift we’d be hit with something we wouldn’t be able to block completely unexpectedly. They truly make him a master lightsaber combatant and his lightsaber fighting actually looks like a true master of sword fighting.
and to be honest we can see his Djem So that is mix of slow and fast FCKN BIG swings in the most part but in the phase 3 he mixes it with some great riposte's and remises
Vader struggled imo, because he underestimated Cere. He wanted cere to use Cere's fear against her, yet she tamed the darkside, meaning she conqured her fears because of vader torturing her. We see in the beginning he used one hand to fight, then when he got annoyed, he switched to two hands, and outsmarted cere because she got too confident which lead to her demise.
It's interesting that Cere outsmarted Vader too by luring Vader into a position where she can drop a flaming bookcase on him. That weakened him so that even if he fought seriously, Cere would still have a serious chance of winning. And then Vader used Cere's overconfidence against her.
I don't think it was her confidence. Her last word was Trilla and her last words were "Avenge me." Cere saw what she thought was an opening and chance to do just that for her former student and jumped the gun
Was a good fight, Cere really didnt stand a chance until she surprised him with that bookcase explosion. Very well played. Since she couldn't over power him she had to play smart. Without the bookcase moment vader would have toyed with her until he eventually killed her
Ayy I’m a heavy vader fan too but you gotta give credit when it’s due. Cere never did stop fighting and got farther then most. Remember last game he swiped left on her like a 3 on tinder and she was bout gone. 🤣
@@MaajidM yup. In fallen order she only got good hit on him under anger. She tamed that in this game and had a good battle with vader. Vader is that guy ofc he doesn’t die here but few Jedi put him that close to defeat like that
A small but awesome detail about him. When he stops using a single hand and uses both with this lightsaber, that's when you know he's taking things seriously. That and of course doing incredibly heavy single handed swings like the move he opened up his second duel against Obi-Wan with.
There will be those who will say that they nerfed Darth Vader, but remember that Cere was a Jedi Master who had already overcome her traumas, the strange thing would have been that she did not put up a decent fight
@@xshandy5812 he was definitely more so underestimating her but at the same time the fact that he come for her speaks a lot about how powerful she had become. Vader never personally shows up unless someone is worthy of a fight. If u notice in the fight he starts using the two hand grip when he respects cere. And also even after he implies her he doesn’t do anything after that.
This was definitely the highlight of the game imo. I spent the entire game getting my ass beat on Jedi Master, so having the power trip as Cere was sick, and then having that power trip come to a screeching halt was even cooler.
I love this moment. She knows she cant beat Vader, but shes going to give every breath to slowing him down. He doesnt hold back either, his second and third phases are relentless. Absolutely incredible.
Yeah, i see a lot of people complaining when vader struggles in a fight, but i think because of vader always toying with his opponents, he gives them too much time to eventually get a lucky shot and get the upper hand on him. If he wasn't being such a dramatic show off the fights would probably end a lot quicker, but that wouldn't be very entertaining.
I love this game, at first I questioned Cere’s ability to face Vader, but recognising how powerful of a Jedi master she was, it made a lot of sense, and even after all she did, Vader was only wounded.
Actually, within the game you get him literally to within an inch of his life. If Cal had turned up at that point even he could have beaten him. However, under SW canon we know that Vader doesnt die fighting Cere, which is why he doesnt get killed because as the player playing the char Cere could easily have killed him. Sucks when a game follows canon like that.
Anyone who complains about how much damage Vader took in the fight clearly haven’t read comics, plenty of people have done decent damage to Vader and he often comes out of fight heavily battle damaged, he may he a force to reckoned with but he isn’t absolutely unstoppable, but he always wins the fight

Maybe reminds him of the mustafar incident EDIT: Vader uses his 2 handed grip ONLY if he wants to put an end to a fight and is in rage. Great detail from Respawn.
3:46 Vader stumbles. Cere made him actually dual properly. He had a lot of respect for Cere by the end of the fight. It's why he didn't do a disrespectful blow in the end after landing the initial final shot.
Vader somewhat struggling and beating a skilled opponent is way more badass than him steamrolling everyone he faces. Most fights should be easy yes, but Cere is a Jedi master. You guys want him to be like Saitama beating everyone or what? Thank god you don't write stories if you think that's the right choice for a character like Vader.
Jedi masters or Force users thats LITERALLY training and waiting for vader to come ,theyre either one of the hardest he ever faced in his Jedi purging but at the end of the day he will succeed
Exactly! Leave it to Star Wars fans to find anything to complain about. It’ll be our own fandom that’ll doom us from getting actual good star wars like this.
He didn't exactly struggle, considering the cutscenes are only canon. He pushed her around with the force and toyed with her. Then Cere dropped the debris on him which we know from Rebels that he doesn't really care. She got a hit on him them dived in and got stabbed.

This is right after or before Kenobi, so Vader at this point has grown complacent because he hunted most of the Jedi down. The guy is arrogant and he really almost paid for it in both Kenobi and Jedi: Survivor. It's a miracle he is still alive after being so naive.
Fight was nice but it could've ended better, felt like it was a cop out ending in order to portray Vader winning while showing Cere to have an upper hand. There was a way to make Cere shine while still maintaining that oppressiveness that Vader usually brings and this wasn't the way to do it.
Palpatine casually dismantled multiple Jedi Masters in seconds on his own. Being a Jedi Master isn't the label you think it is. That being said I didn't have too many problems with this fight, but I do feel that Vader did underperform a little. Still cool though.
@@chriscage669 oh I know, I think it's a brilliant fight from a narrative standpoint. To Vader lovers (not derogatory): he toyed with her at the beginning and got hurt after she outsmarted him and dropped a few tons of rubble on him. Had he come out swinging right from the get go, Cere would have lost rather quickly. Cere is exceptionally powerful but she knew even she couldn’t take him head on. She worked a plan together while fighting Vader and it hurt him. After that moment we see a big difference in the fight where it’s equal between the two. Vader won (obviously) but he seems to toy with people before actually fighting them. He did the same thing with Obi Wan in the series as well. A few stumbles and Vader still walked away from Cere. It’s ok if Vader takes a hit every now and then. He’s still the most menacing figure in Star Wars lol.
I love how he doesn't gloat after the killing blow or go out of his way to do any further damage. He just goes "aight lol bye" and walks away like he just clocked out of a dishwashing shift
I love how the game showed how Cere’s strength grew along with Cal. She went from failing to hit Vader at all with an inquisitor saber to almost beating him in a fight and only losing because she missed and Vader didnt.
You really get a sense of how big vader is once the fight is over. It looks like vader is sitting down which he's the height of cere before standing up
I love when anyone puts up a decent fight against Vader all the fan boys come out saying Vader was nerfed lmao. In my opinion it’s actually nice seeing people challenge and truly test Vader. It makes him scarier as we have only seen him fight against untrained Jedi for most of the lore.
Agree, but I can't blame them either, since the whole thing with vader is that he vipes jedi masters like is easy because he was supposed to be the strongest force sensitive person to have ever existed
Challenge? bro Cere was no challenge to Vader, Vader was toying with her like he does with all his other opponents, he has underestimated a few like Cere But overall Cere was no where close to his level or even giving him a challenge. Damn to see cere fight as a true jedi and challange vader was awesome. Goodbye cere we will miss you and hopefully well see more of you in pre jedi survivor content. Disney, are you taking notes? This is how to write a character.
Idk why anyone is mad that Vader struggled here. Cere is a jedi master pre-order 66. She also fought Vader once before so she had time to prepare. Ofcourse cere would never beat Vader, but injuring him is valid. Vader gets injured a lot, especially in the books. The scary thing about him isn’t just that he’s powerful, it’s that he’ll always come back even from the brink. He can get chopped into pieces, burned alive, stabbed, shot, etc. but he’ll just walk back up to you ready for more. Cere exploded an entire wall on him, and he just pushed it all away. She slams him to the ground as he’s burning, and he still was able to expertly move to stab her to death. Vader is a monster who won’t stop until he’s dead. You can’t let your guard down for even a second. He’ll see any form of weakness, and if you have any fear you might as well run.
I knew Cere was going to die the moment he appeared. After playing as her for this entire sequence, I simply knew it was it. But you bet yourself, I fought like there was another option.
I really mourned Ceres death she was a great mentor to Cal and a great Jedi who dealt with her darkness and did not give in to hatred and fear she will be missed 😔
I felt at the first moment that I played as Cere that she was a more powerful Jedi than Cal. I was not surprised that she held a decent fight. But damn after Vader was burned, he became a monster, I felt each heavy of his strike. Wonderful scene
Yk Vader took Cere serious when he had two hands on that lightsaber during the clash. This hit me right in the feels I loved cere, I knew the outcome was going to happen but denial had me in delusion until she went for the "kill." When he was stuck she should've ran man!
I love how they portray Vader throughout the fight, at first he is confident in his one handed saber style and slowly transitions to his 2 handed style showing how truly powerful cere is as a dualist. The final part where Vader is towering over cere is a nice touch too, in other portrayals of Vader he is show as a slightly above average size man but in reality he’s a staggering 6’2-6’3 Adonis in a black cybernetic suit
You got to put some respect on Cere's name. She made Vader LIMP AWAY, you know how skilled and good you need to be to make Anakin/Vader of all people limp and stumble from a saber fight. RIP Cere, you gave him one HELL OF a fight 😢😭❤️❤️
vader is literally him, I dont understand why they made cere get this close to winning. Movie wise, game wise or comic wise it makes absolutely no sense
First his suit is supposed to be fire proof yet in this game it just got fire damaged second somehow vader didn't protect himself from the falling book shelf even though vader has that force shield ability and that was the only thing that apparently gave cere an edge even though if he wasn't nerfed none of that would've hurt him
Because she’s a former Jedi master who cut herself off from the force, and she eventually learned to let go of her fear. Canonically, this fits with the established lore. The Dark Side is a quick and addictive way of reaching power, while the light side is slower and non-addictive, but the same results can be achieved. She’s just as powerful as Vader, but Vader’s conviction (and plot armor), allows him to always win. Doesn’t mean he’s invincible, just ask Obi-Wan.
3:32 i love the long look Vader gives Cere here. It's clearly entitely a non-verbal way of him saying he's bested her but at the same time this guy is clearly spent. He's absolutely knackered but i feel enjoyed the fight. It's more rewarding for him to crush a Jedi when they fight back. He clearly had fun and i feel like it was a look of "good fight. But i won"
I've honestly never seen a game capture the essence of Darth Vader better than this. His slow, deliberate yet limited movements, the fact that while limited in mobility, you can tell just how much force is behind them, the way he is forced to slowly clamber up after dealing the finishing blow because he's in such an awkward position. Fucking love this game.
I spent the entire game OBSESSED but unable to decide which one was my favourite (1st or 2nd) purely because of how good the Vader cameo in game 1 was then all of a sudden he showed up and it was just the icing on the cake 🎂 😍
After the archives coming down on him Vader started to use his real potential. For anyone saying he was inch from defeat, they are force users he was fully aware of where the lightsaber would hit. It isn't just random luck and even after that vader might look he has no energy but the truth is if they spawned a another cere right there that fight would even be shorter (because he is taking cere seriously this time) and end in absolute victory
Watching Vader stumble and stuggle to stand up and walk off is absolutely masterful. You're so used to him being this absolute unit that when you see him actually struggle its almost surreal.
They say fanboys crying but only thing i see is a man catching a lightsaber between his fucking arms while stabbing the person if thats not a example of skill idk what is
My favorite thing about Vader is how he always starts his fights with only one hand holding the saber. He's holding back at first but after Cere damaged him, he began fighting more aggressively with two hands on the saber. This is exactly why I love his fight with Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back. He did the exact same thing. This fight was amazing! Peak Star Wars Moment for sure!!
I dont remember Vader using 1 hand ever during Empire. I think mainly in due to the limited technology of the 80s and the clunky suit David Prowess had to wear. But Vader used 2 hands the entire fight during Empire and Jedi
@@callumrangan1061 he used one hand in Empire when he and Luke first started duelling. He went two hands after the point where Luke Force jumped out of the freezing chamber.
A very honorable achievment, to have got Vader a bit damaged like that, even if it was sure he'd have killed her anyway. A life bar above Vader in a game isn't actually his life bar but rather the remaining time before he murders your @ss off.
There's this one line he can say during the fight and I think it's "I will be your death, Master Junda" or something along those lines, and idk why, but that line always gives me chills 😂😂
Amazing sequence. And people are exaggerating on Vader being nerfed. Cere is a jedi master and already had experience fighting him. Anakin is the strongest, sure, but he's not infallible. She put up a decent fight, and that is just about what it should have been.
Even tho cere is powerful I do think the only reason the fight lasted as long as it did was because Vader wasn’t trying at first not saying she wouldn’t have still put up a fight I just do see it going as long as it did
The scariest thing about Vader is he doesn’t fear death. If anything he just DGAF about anything anymore. Just taking his pain out on everyone and everything, using the emperors “law and justice” as an excuse
Knowing this is the same year as the kenobi show I’d say the reason why Vader struggled so much in this fight is probably related to being so freshly mentally/emotionally unbalanced against a balanced focused and experienced Jedi
Halfway through fight Vader did the fighting equivalent of a gamer leaning forward when shits getting tense, ironically like me playing as Cere, when shit got tense.
I think it's good to see that while Vader & his inquisitors were hunting jedi they encountered some ppl that actually put up a good fight. Vader might have insane force skills & combat skill but there are without a doubt other Jedi & force users out there who have enough battle experience & their own skill to put up a fight.
I personally am not a fan of people claiming Vader should just easily win every single fight he is in. He was still badass here and walked away before she even fell down.
I like everything about this fight from the beginning were he toyed with her and after the books were the Game showed that cere is underrated and a very strong jedi master who is smart after that even Vader noticed he has to fight real that was awesome. And I know there are going to be some Vader fanboys who say Vader was nerfed but idc I love the fact that she put up a decent fight which shows her as a respectful Jedi master . Vader is a beast anyway , like it was so badass that he walked away before she even fall on the ground. The music was epic, the effect were epic, the fight scenes were epic ,everything was epic.
Cere vs Vader is already in my top five duels. She and Obi Wan overcame their fears and the light reached both again. The Dark Side only got advantage using your fears against you. Overcame it and becomes determination against hate. This was beautiful ❤.
I don’t get people that finally get to see Vader in action putting in effort to fight a foe and get to see an entertaining back and forth then fucking complain anyway. She’s been a Jedi master since before the clone wars and has only been getting stronger since then. It’s nice seeing Vader not cut someone down in 2 strikes again for once.
Because the fight wouldn't be soo close to him losing unless they heavily nerfed him I would be fine if he put some effort into fighting his foe but making him almost lose thats bs

This is a great take

But i won"
I really love Vader's fighting style
When the Imperial March hits just right🤌 2:11
I've honestly never seen a game capture the essence of Darth Vader better than this.
Stood 10 toes until he left. That ish gave me chills.
1:33 that music though
Ceres biggest flaw was, that she isn't in a Disney+ series. "It is delussional to think a lightsaber through the stomach have had any consequences."
I love that you can feel the weight and impact of powerful force users.
When facing Darth Vader as Cere in Jedi Survivor, I played the Mustafar Duel Theme from ROTS for this Boss Battle.
Cere going down in a blaze of glory and Vader LIMPING away from battle...what a duel that was!
Honestly seeing how powerful Cere has become ever since being tossed aside like a fly by Vader in the last game was awesome
I personally am not a fan of people claiming Vader should just easily win every single fight he is in. He was still badass here and walked away before she even fell down.
Same here. Darth Vader is a beast, but he’s not a god. Calm down, guys. 😂
bruh Cere is such a random ass Jedi and got vader limping with a few books, this shit makes no sense at all

Honestly top 10 Jedi fights for me, really loved this sequence
I like everything about this fight from the beginning were he toyed with her and after the books were the Game showed that cere is underrated and a very strong jedi master who is smart after that even Vader noticed he has to fight real that was awesome. And I know there are going to be some Vader fanboys who say Vader was nerfed but idc I love the fact that she put up a decent fight which shows her as a respectful Jedi master . Vader is a beast anyway , like it was so badass that he walked away before she even fall on the ground. The music was epic, the effect were epic, the fight scenes were epic ,everything was epic.

Cere: backed up against bookshelf thingy
> rolls
> somehow ends up 15 feet away from the bookshelf
Wha??
Cere vs Vader is already in my top five duels. She and Obi Wan overcame their fears and the light reached both again. The Dark Side only got advantage using your fears against you. Overcame it and becomes determination against hate. This was beautiful ❤.
Don't forget Kanan.
@@anti4107 Its a one time thing tbh, only people who ever almost beat him were 2 Jedi obi and her who basically mastered what it meant to be a jedi
