I’m running Castrol Edge OW-40 in my F32. I like the extremely thin viscosity on the cold end for easy pumpability and a little heavier on the other end since these engines tend to run hot anyway.
I run castro edge 5w40 or Liqui moly 5w40 which ever i can get my hands on in my 2011 bmw 328i that has over a120,000 miles and i have no oil consumption or burning with 5000 to 6000 mile oil changes here in Florida. So far so good.
Providing the oil is synthetic and to the BMW spec it is not an issue to be concerned about. All oils must be labelled with the relative information and specifications. I have used the cheapest oils and filters on my last 6 BMWs without the slightest problem !
For normal use I would recommend the Castrol Edge ll04 5w30 or 5w40 For a car that occasionally goes to track days I was thinking about , Motul 300v 5w40 because it has a good HTHS of 4.1. I’ve also seen the Ravenol vst usvo 5w40 with a 3.9 which looks good on paper but it’s 2 times cheaper so probably not as good as Motul.
I find video useless and too simple. There are a lot more important facts about oil formulations... You just promote those oil brands. People pay too much atention to oil bottle designs and names... BMW LL-01 and LL-04 are just a stamps that say that oil is tested by BMW and suited for long oil intervals. Nothing more. You can use 10w-40 for sure if you change it max. at 10.000 km. Btw, most BMW enthusiasts do not follow long intervals...and modern "more fuel economy=less wear protection" oil marketing.
I was using 5w30 original bmw twin turbo oil in my M54 E46. It consumed around 0.5 liter in 10k km. I changed it to Liqui Moly 5w30 and no oil has disappeared in 10k km! I am now using 5w40 Liqui Moly in my N54 335i.

Yeah use Pennzoil BMW dropped Castrol years ago and liqui molly is ok didn’t do so good during testing for wear resistance. Pennzoil ultra platinum or Pennzoil platinum euro.

Same, took a 1000 mile trip only fuel stops, after the 1000 mile road trip checked the oil, that m54 ate it all! 1000 mile road trip back with Castrol 5w - 40, didn't eat much at all I was still max. - M54b30 - x5.

BMW dropped Castrol and now buys oil from Shell. Shell makes Pennzoil so when you buy BMW oil in the BMW bottle it’s really Pennzoil. Walmart five quart jug is about $23.00.
I do this mistake, i used castrol edge 5w30 LL, not LO4 in my 530d e61 around 2500km, did I make any damage to the engine? BMW doesn’t make /blend oil. They buy from large company’s. The large company will blend the oil. BMW recommends Castrol Valvoline Syn Power and Mobil One. Use the weight oil that is in your manual.

BMW Ditched Castrol for a reason! BMW oil is made by Shell using the same GTL process as their Helix Ultra Pro ECT brand. BMW oil is the best, for your BMW of course
BMW was supplied by Castrol few years ago (at least in USA), but change to Pennzoil now. Even Oil cap says "Castrol" on it. I don't know if current model has oil caps with "Pennzoil" logo on them.

According to Autodata, you should use 5W20 or 5W30 or 10W40 semi-synthetic oil. Lubrication requirement - ACEA A2/A3. I would use Castrol Edge 5W30 which satisfies ACEA A3 which is good.
