  • This video goes over the steps I took to install 370Z sport brakes on to my R32 Skyline GTR. This isn't difficult, but it definitely requires a steady hand and patience. Below are all of the parts that I used.

    I've been asked by a number of people why I chose to go with the Concept Z brackets over Z1, I chose the CZP brackets because they are all billet aluminum and I liked the design quite a bit more than the Z1 design.

    I miss my GTR very much! I used to own R32 GTR around 1990 to 1996 in Japan. When I moved to the U.S.A, I wanted to bring mine but dmv required proof of crash tests for 3 GTRs. So I gave up. I am glad now many people talks about GTR in the world! I put some pictures in my channel.

      thanks for watching. The R32 is a very iconic car and loved by many. Maybe it's not too late for you to get another R32 GTR now here in the U.S.A.

    How much power are you pushing? Would love to hear more, still have this kit set up? I have a R34 Sedan that will be pushing +700HP. Trying to research my beat big brake kit options. Just not sure with that much power how big of rotors should I go with. Aiming for 18 inch wheels

      Lots of big brake options for the R chassis, can't go wrong with any of them.
      My car makes 550 awhp.

    I like that they still say Nissan on them like the Sumitomo calipers on the standard R32, looks very subtle.

    Thanks for another interesting video, it's refreshing to watch an R32 vlog that's not mega budget 1xxx bhp build.
    As you are a DIY home builder I was wondering if you'd be interested in one of my R32 Cold Air Intake kits I have recently started selling over on Ebay in the UK?

    It is a good and informative video. I really like the brakes. I have R32 brakes all around on my pickup truck, with 17" wheels. There's one information what I missed or didn't hear: what kind and size wheels do you use?

      @@PlatoonGarage I like these calipers too. I was afraid you would say 18". Now I am figuring out if I can swap them with my R32 calipers. I use 340mm discs.

    Dumb question but do you have a video that shows your Jack mount locations? I’ve been using the frame rails but your spot in the front and rear looks more stable.

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry I Don't have a video of where the jacks are placed. The next time I jack the car I'll do a video showing where I place them.
      But here's an explanation. For the front I put the jack stands under the front subframe on either side, my jackstands use rubber inserts that prevent slipping/marring.
      The rear stands go under the subframe connector brackets (for lack of a better description). The 'L' shaped brackets

    I was really hoping you’d go with the amg brakes. Did you ever happen to test fit them on the car with those brackets?

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I had them on the car everything fits perfectly. I had issues with the calipers, the rebuild I had done must not have been done correctly and they leaked, which ruined the powder coating.
      So I decided to buy everything brand new and go with the 370z kit since it is actually a lot lighter

    Do you think button headed bolts would eliminate the need to grind the rear calipers? Really like the 370Z upgrade other than having to hit the calipers with a grinder!

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      No avoiding grinding unfortunately, it's really straight forward, just need to take your time and go slowly

    Nice job did you change your brake master to BM57 by the way i did bought the same kit for my GTR R32 but I didn’t have time to install it.

      Yep my car has a BM57. It was actually one of the very first mods on my car.

    Hi mate do you know how these compare to the common Evo brake upgrade for the GTR? Which would be better?

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the evo brembo upgrade, but the fronts are roughly equivalent in size, I believe the rear akebono calipers are slightly larger.
      I think whatever you can source for cheaper will be the way to go

    I'm curious if the 300zx kit they offer uses different adapter brackets than the 370z kit. I was looking at their website and it seems like there's a slight price difference between the two kits. Was there a reason why you went with the 370z instead of the 300zx (Z32) version? I called the guys at Z1 and he can't give me a definitive answer as to whether the Z32 one is a direct fit. He said the brakes between the R32 GTR (non-vspec) and Z32 brakes should be identical, but he's not 100% sure.

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The z32 and R32 (non vspec) brakes are very similar. The kit installed on my car is for the z32 but needs to be modified to work because the R32 GTR is all wheel drive and has a lower ball joint on the front knuckle (z32 doesn't).
      If you have a rear wheel drive R32 it will have a knuckle similar to the z32

    What is the minimum rim size needed? can you go as low as 17" or is 18" the min?

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have 2 sets of 18s that I have run over these brakes but haven't tried 17s so I can't verify. I don't think you would be able to fit 17s since the caliper is already really close to the inner barrel
