Most people might not need bigger brakes, but both the M Sport and M Performance brakes make the car look sooo much better than the standard brakes with floating calipers.
If you have the CCB setup, you can also swap out the friction hardware for "iron" components, instead of keeping the CC bits. So you'll have the CCB look, but instead, run 2 piece iron rotors and the necessary pads. 9 sets for the same price as the CCB replacement. You can also upgrade from the stock CCB pads, which aren't that great, to the pagid CCB pads, with the OE CCB rotors for real track worthy stopping power. 👍
Man outstanding video you just made me realize that I will Never drive my BMW on the track so purely for esthetics that's not worth the money to put nice calipers and break kits on these cars . Thank You Soo much you just saved me a lot of dineros.
C- or J hook is to have grooves to clean the pad off and remove glaze quickly if you overheat it... but at the same time not introduce a linear/radial weakness. Ultimately for track use you should not use steel disks more than 2 years and replace them at the signs of any crazing.
Sometimes big brake kits are necessary for reliability on track or on race cars. For example the M2, M240i, and M235i I have seen in the past have caliper failures where the bolts holding the calipers together yield under heavy braking causing the brake fluid passage to open up
More brake torque from bigger calipers do matter and do shorten brake disrance when the tire is high grip. At high speeds, a small caliper would not be able to get near locking with high grip tires because the small caliper lacks brake torque necessary to utilize the grip available. At low speeds however, a small caliper would get to locking as much as a big caliper would. With lower grip tires, a small caliper would be sufficient perhaps even at high speed braking
It might also have been worth noting that the carbon ceramic rotors chip easily if you accidentally hit your wheels against them when mounting and dismounting your wheels
I feel like the biggest lagger in my m4 is the brakes. On the track they just don’t hold up. Before buying a bbk, I will try out performance pads first though.
I have a BMW F30 that had OEM brakes approaching near the end of its life. The dealership wanted to charge my exorbitantly. My friend who has a workshop offered to replace my brakes with BBK and re-code the ECU for the same price. It was a no brainer to switch to BBK at that time.
You cannot reason with people on this. They want to drive to the shops and back and genuinely believe that dropping 2 grand on brakes will make them stop faster. You can demo stopping distances over and over but you get the same glazed look and "but they're bigger so they're better"
mine f80 use AP competition kit run on the track with great response and no fade, however the noise and the dust is crazy... plus, competition has no dust boots and so you have to clean the piston more often
$9000 on a big brake kit? Most will say nope, that is a turbo or supercharger or heads, cam, intake and full exhaust money. I’m all in at $2200 on a big brake kit on my 2004 GTO, using CTSv, C6 Corvette and 5th gen Camaro SS parts. The custom caliper brackets were about 20% of the cost. 14” front rotors, 13.6” rear rotors and 4 piston Brembos all around. Best braking car I have ever owned and is still one of my favorite mods I have done to my GTO, for both performance and looks. The same full on kit from Wilwood, Brembo or Harrop is easily $5000 or more depending on parts selection. Brakes are one of those modifications people don’t like to do because it can cost a lot of money that they would rather put elsewhere.
Do big brake kits mess up the ABS+stability control at all? It seems that it might stop the wheels differently and then turn on the ABS/stability service lights.
Bryan, a very good extension of the brake system 👌, but I want to ask you something else. Keyless is good, but it makes it easier to steal (on a suitcase) a thief. Will you ever show how to protect a car against theft, e.g. how to cut the ignition off with a hidden switch? ✌️🇵🇱
No they are not necessary unless you track your car. Brake pad and tires are what does the stopping work. Big brake kits allows you to full brake multiple times without overheating.
Now that the big brake kit is dispersing the heat really well could you not "upgrade" the brake master cylinder to increase the clamping power of the calipers? Or am i barking up the wrong tree? Many thanks, good video.
Brian great video, love the channel but I need advice. I got a 2020 F36 430i xDrive and want to upgrade my brakes and rotors. BMW tells me there is no option to do this, any thoughts or suggestions.
good video. If I track 1-2times a year I can't justify dropping 2.5k~ for a BBK for the fronts knowing that it may at most maybe shave off 1-1.5s off my lap times?
I was drag racing my m340i LCI with M3 a few times and I noticed that my brakes are a disaster… I have M Sport 348 mm front brakes which are 4-pistons. Would it make a difference in braking performance if I change them to M Performance brakes with 374mm rotors? Unfortunately they are also 4-pistons… or should I put non standard X5M 6-piston brakes for my car ? xD please advise
so, no way to improve distance brake? for example highway emergency brake! because i bought bmw 230i 2022 and i don't like the brake! my old honda accord way better, it was smooth and short distance. bmw's brake not comfort. i feel in my foot like a bone feeling from abs. so any advice ?
Any recommended big brakes for 4 series coupe, w 19’. Have a Melbourne Red Metallic, something to start off with, didn’t come w m brakes; trying to be reasonable if possible
I'm not a car expert, but I love cars I'm going to take a generalized stab at it, (and I paused it, before watching the video to comment). and I know I may be criticized harshly by all the TH-cam experts, but if I'm on the right track, please, just add to it, don't tear me apart. OK. My guess is that the reason you don't need a bug brake kit is because big brakes cool much faster on race cars. That's because race cars are put under significantly higher stress, obviously, than a typical car on the street. And 99.9% don't drive a race car on the steers, therefore we don't need a big brake kit. Stock is just fine. A good tire with good tread or high performance tire.... (as everyone has heard before,) is what is keeping you from hitting the person in front of you... That old saying when you see someone driving on tires that are bald as an eagle. That's what stops you fast(er). So let me watch the video now as you guys either make my comment better with your input or tear me apart for trying.
big brake kit or racing brakes does not help you stop faster if your stock brake can actully break friction on your tires when breaking those are mostly down to tire grip and contact pacth in combination with approriate spring rate that dictates your actual stoping distance what big brake kit or performance pads and brake fluid does is that it has more thermal and cooling capacity then your oem brakes that means its able to stop again and again and again which is usefull on the track.
Question, how comparable is it if you upgraded the rotors and pads instead of going to a bigger brake kit? Also if you get new pads, upgraded pads, would you have to resurface the stock rotors if you were to just swap out the pads?
Upgraded pads and rotors and my stock brakes still only last so long before they start getting too hot. Big brake kits are for stopping more times and way harder and not giving up they don’t decrease your stopping distance. Suspension and tires do that. That’s true for low speeds. At high speeds most stock brakes can’t really stop the car that fast so a big brake kit would help high speed stopping distance like maybe your 120-0 time
Great video! What if you're upgrading from "regular stock" brakes to either OEM M Sport or AP Racing, like those found in the lower-specced F30s? The stopping distance would probably be different then, right?
As someone who has one of the heaviest f3x variants (f31 diesel) that comes stock with the smallest factory brakes (312/300) I can confirm that 340/330 (335) brakes upgrades do have shorter distance. Enough to not rear end your average Nissan Toyota econobox in an emergency brake scenario. No real reason to go to 370/345 except looks.
Most people might not need bigger brakes, but both the M Sport and M Performance brakes make the car look sooo much better than the standard brakes with floating calipers.
How much performance do I gain if i paint my stock calipers red? 🙃
If red you gain about 2HP. Ferrari Red additional 3HP.
25hp man. Didn’t you do your research?
😂😅👌
4 to 5 per caliper painted...so your looking at 14 to 20 whp
About 10 whp
I love how Bryan explain things he would been a good high school teacher
If you have the CCB setup, you can also swap out the friction hardware for "iron" components, instead of keeping the CC bits. So you'll have the CCB look, but instead, run 2 piece iron rotors and the necessary pads. 9 sets for the same price as the CCB replacement.

You forgot to mention the most important thing about big brake kits: great conversation starter when you go to car shows :)
Man outstanding video you just made me realize that I will Never drive my BMW on the track so purely for esthetics that's not worth the money to put nice calipers and break kits on these cars . Thank You Soo much you just saved me a lot of dineros.
Very clear and concise presentation, while I have not watch all vid's on brakes this made the most sense out of any I have watched.. Thanks
C- or J hook is to have grooves to clean the pad off and remove glaze quickly if you overheat it... but at the same time not introduce a linear/radial weakness.
Ultimately for track use you should not use steel disks more than 2 years and replace them at the signs of any crazing.
The only and best channel for BMWs
Sometimes big brake kits are necessary for reliability on track or on race cars. For example the M2, M240i, and M235i I have seen in the past have caliper failures where the bolts holding the calipers together yield under heavy braking causing the brake fluid passage to open up
I have those Janoskis as well. Best colorway ever for that shoe IMO

Buy a brake cooling kitt…
I'm guessing you mean brakefade. Get better brakefluid with performance pads.
I have a BMW F30 that had OEM brakes approaching near the end of its life. The dealership wanted to charge my exorbitantly. My friend who has a workshop offered to replace my brakes with BBK and re-code the ECU for the same price. It was a no brainer to switch to BBK at that time.
The large majority of ppl do not need a big brake kit on M3/M4 but they look great!

dope video brotha! especially melting the butter part.

Kudos on making your own parts bin kit. I’m torn on what upgrade to go with on my 1M, a m4 kit or APs.
Good option is to install brake kit from bmw m2 cs. Cheaper + oem + nice. ;)
Do big brake kits mess up the ABS+stability control at all? It seems that it might stop the wheels differently and then turn on the ABS/stability service lights.
Sick top down view of the braking
Can you do a xenon to LED Icon headlight retrofit?
Yes. Yes you do need a big brake kit. And I need your old brakes!!
What are your thoughts on only running a front kit since most braking is done up front?
Wow incredible experiment
you guys don’t miss with content
Bryan, a very good extension of the brake system 👌, but I want to ask you something else.
Keyless is good, but it makes it easier to steal (on a suitcase) a thief. Will you ever show how to protect a car against theft, e.g. how to cut the ignition off with a hidden switch? ✌️🇵🇱
People that actually go to the drag strip are the ones who truly understand the importance of big brakes
Huh?
I'm saying people don't realize how important brakes are unless they actually drive them on a track
@@SgHawk144 I miss spelled brakes lol
No they are not necessary unless you track your car. Brake pad and tires are what does the stopping work. Big brake kits allows you to full brake multiple times without overheating.
if im running the 6 pots upfront, do i need to upgrade the rear to maybe 2 or 4 pots?
Can you put those calipers on the standard rotors the M3 comes with?
I'm fifteen my pops bought me a 320i and I'm so interested for the future
Do the brakes squeal while doing regular driving and after it heats up etc?
Awesome video, thanks!
Great video, very informative 👍
Now that the big brake kit is dispersing the heat really well could you not "upgrade" the brake master cylinder to increase the clamping power of the calipers? Or am i barking up the wrong tree?
Many thanks, good video.
im looking to down size my stock big brake from 410mm to 380mm so i can run 18" wheels instead of 20" wheels. get more better tires for the track...
Hol up, is your front right rotor disc on backwards? Shouldn't the slots be going the other way?
They worth it my stock brakes smoke when Ever im braking to hard.
Brian great video, love the channel but I need advice. I got a 2020 F36 430i xDrive and want to upgrade my brakes and rotors. BMW tells me there is no option to do this, any thoughts or suggestions.
9:45 Laguna Seca Turn 2 Blue!!
so there's performance benefit at braking from 65mph about 1/4 of car length shorter?
good video. If I track 1-2times a year I can't justify dropping 2.5k~ for a BBK for the fronts knowing that it may at most maybe shave off 1-1.5s off my lap times?
I'm in the same boat. The only reason I would like to get some is so I can consistently brake with no fade and enjoy the track weekend.
Excellent video! Well explained.

Great insight, loved it!
Can you run 18s on these brakes or have to be 20s
Any recommended big brakes for 4 series coupe, w 19’. Have a Melbourne Red Metallic, something to start off with, didn’t come w m brakes; trying to be reasonable if possible

How about the option to maintain the m performance calipers matched to aftermarket 2 piece disc or even upsized disc with matching caliper adapters?
Where did John get that front lip
Im going for the m performance brakes on my 440i just because my m sport brakes look tiny on my 20" wheels 🤣
Yes thats the one a d only reason
Bro I met you today at six flags lol 😎😂
How do you get live cockpit in an f80
nice Video like always
Big brake kits just like fancy phone cases, not everyone needs them, but still a good trade
Do y’all make msport kits for a f34 335i?
Was there any reason why you chose AP racing over brembo
And here i am with a Brembo BBK on my CRV. LOL.
big brake kit or racing brakes does not help you stop faster if your stock brake can actully break friction on your tires when breaking those are mostly down to tire grip and contact pacth in combination with approriate spring rate that dictates your actual stoping distance what big brake kit or performance pads and brake fluid does is that it has more thermal and cooling capacity then your oem brakes that means its able to stop again and again and again which is usefull on the track.
It’s the feel on the brembo 4 pots. They are terrible.

Nice!
This is awesome
I guess the answer is:
when I sell you the brakes: of course you need it
The editing on this one made me feel like I was in a fever dream lol
Why do you fit the 9562 instead of the 9560 calipers?
My guess is that you want the same brake torque to not mess up the ABS.
Great video! What if you're upgrading from "regular stock" brakes to either OEM M Sport or AP Racing, like those found in the lower-specced F30s? The stopping distance would probably be different then, right?
It should be the same, otherwise you'll mess up the ABS.

Brakes don’t equal the majority of stopping distance. Upgrading to stickier tires will be a more dramatic difference.
What rims are these ?
The deer skit 😂😂😂😂
THOUGHTS ON A 328D MODEL?
If it has 312/300 , go to 340/330 take offs from someone who went m performance. They are undersized.
🔥 video
Bryan trying to get that Starbucks sponsorship
Nice setup but way over priced for me
I love BMW
Turkish subtitle please
English language teacher please
Water cooled disks 🤯
Save weight by removing breaks all together. Who needs breaks to go fast
You mean 900$ right?
$9000!?!
Buy a new 7 series
9000???
Put some eggs on that disc, mmm
You paid 9k usd for that? 😂
I hurt my heart to see that 🧈 wasted. 😂 Good demonstration tho
