Ash tries to distance himself from Eiji...but (as the theme of this show goes) "at what cost?"
The deterioration of his morality, the tension of his friendship with Eiji in conflict with his current affairs, and the inevitable final fight with Arthur on the horizon...man...I was getting used to this breathing room and Banana Fish, you just fly us back into the frying pan, right?!

Ash underestimated how much Eiji cares about/loves him. He thought Eiji would be horrified by him and see him as the wild animal/devil that everyone else sees him as. He didn't realize that Eiji knew him well enough to know that his actions in this episode weren't "him"; the Ash we know shoots to defend himself and others, not as a preemptive strike.
I think that's why Max (#1 Ash x Eiji shipper 😁) made the comment about Ash not thinking clearly when it comes to Eiji. He knows that Eiji is safer in Japan, but can't really bear to part with him either. Moments like this are a reminder that Ash is just a really hurt and lonely kid.
YES! That part from Episode 10 where he asked if Eiji was afraid of him, and Eiji says "never." Ash is finally seeing just how true that is. And ahhh, yes, the idea of Max as the #1 Ash x Eiji shipper is SENDING me! XD That's so perfect!! Yes, he knows that Ash is weak to Eiji and that it's going to be an issue down the road with as deep as Ash is in all of this...ugh....it's so tense and stressful watching this play out...especially with characters as complex, easy to relate and empathize with as Ash and Eiji. I don't think he was killing the gang members to make Eiji hate him. He was killing gang members and he knew Eiji would figure it out and hate him. Eiji and Ash are sooooo cute. I love the parallel of so many of the scenes like you have cold Ash then with Eiji he acts younger and more open (like when he was eating Natto or with the pumpkins) Thanks for another reaction. That is a VERY good point -- Ash is really down on himself, especially since Shorter's death, and he doesn't think Eiji can accept this side of him like he does the softer side with the Natto and pumpkins. What we the audience sees is that Eiji can and does accept this part of Ash, as unhappy as it makes him. UGH, this show.... **shakes fist** Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm pretty sure that Sing is 14 years old, so yeah, he is young.
Also, Yut-Lung is 16 years old. It showed on the card in the 8th episode I think? (maybe 7th), when Shorter found out that Yut-Lung is one of their enemies.
Oh snap!! I remember Sing being 14...which is INSANE...he's basically a few years older than Skip! @__@ But I completely forgot that Yut-Lung was only 16....GEEEZZZZ...these are barely adolescents dealing with this insanity....

From here on out, i have zero idea of where the story’s going, so this will be fun hahah

New OP starts on ep 14 if I remember correctly and I love it just as much as the first one. 10:29 is a bit of a signature move and I can't wait for you to see where it came from. You should also consider watching 91 Days if Mafia stuff set in prohibition-era interests you. It's kind of a slow burn and it's not as good as Banana Fish but I thought I'd throw that out there.

This episode really seems like a turn, in Ash's behaviour. Kind of like if Ash told himself that in order to fight fuckin' Arthur and fuckin' Dino, he has to become like them in some way. After Shorter's death, we saw how Ash was starting to talk very negatively about himself, because he's disgusted by the part of him that had to aim and shoot at Shorter. And it seems like he's following the role, the character he thinks he is : a cold blooded killer. He's not though, 'cause I think human life still has the same importance to him : he knows and feels the blood on his hands. And bless Eiji for noticing and telling him that he's not acting like himself, even if it's hard to hear. By the way, the dubbing is so good in this scene, when Ash tries to "justify" his actions, you can hear in his voice how much he is disgusted with himself. 😭
And it's probably another reason why Ash plans to send Eiji away : he thinks he's disgusting, he knows he has to do more horrific things, and he doesn't want Eiji to see this. Because Eiji loves him, and for his health I'm pretty sure he needs Eiji to keep loving him, in some measure.
I agree with u on the post pumpkin scene : I feel like Ash brings the girlfriend's subject to Eiji on purpose : by telling the tale of this poor 14yo girl, he can illustrate his point : boss' wives are indeed in big danger especially when a big civil war is coming, so it's not a coincidence that this story is shared the day before he planned to send Eiji back to Japan. Will it work ? Dum dum duuum !!

I like your analysis of Ash's character in all this -- I'm thinking too that the gravity of how deep he's in this whole deal is starting to sink in and in getting to know Eiji more and caring more about him, he's realizing the lengths he's going to have to go to keep him and Eiji safe...but it's not a length that he is sure Eiji will want to see him go to. And right?! The voice acting in this show is just...SO on point. I love it, so!
Yeah, that whole scene just cemented that he cares for Eiji, and this is not going to end well if he doesn't find a way to keep Eiji away from harm....Ahhh, Banana Fish, WHY?!

ngl i love banana fish and they are RIGHT but it is sometimes a little annoying to me how every time they want ash to understand something they kinda guiltrip (?) him by mentioning skipper/shorter. Its like their trump card, is Ash not listening? Mention the thing he has nightmares about!!! They aren't WRONG when and how they mention them, sure he's gonna die in vain and not avenge skipper! Sure this isnt the Ash Shorter knew and loved! but it always makes me feel a little off the way its mentioned --

But, now let's enjoy Episode 12 at this moment👐 The last scene of the Episode 11last time was shocking😲 When I was wondering if Arthur had begun to move, Ash took the initiative!! And the Episode 12 that started from the continuation as it is. Arthur, whose comrades are being killed one after another, expresses intense anger. From here, the conflict between Arthur and Ash will intensify...💦 And, of course, this situation now is recognized by Yut-Lung's Lee family and Sing, who leads Chinatown, and Sing was worried about the future. Ash and Eiji's "breakfast scene"...It was wonderful♪

(➡The law of exchanging things of equal value) However, this imposes a considerable mental burden. In fact, the current state of Ash shows its severity. His heart is exhausted...😥 Meanwhile, Eiji, who is worried about Ash, steps into the "core part" of his heart, which Ash thought "I don't want him to touch." The scene where Ash was afraid of pumpkins was cute...but...😰 And the story of Ash's "first love" that made me feel once again that I had a really painful experience since I was a child. It's no wonder Ash thinks, "I just want to protect Eiji!" His life was a repeat of the "aggression and deprivation"😢 Why is only Ash...I'm full of feelings that I can't handle the unfair of the world. And, finally Ash headed to the duel between Arthur... (It leads to the scene that appears a little in OP)

They are so intimidating like Sing's! @_@ And ahhhh, I can DEFINITELY see the VA similarities in his voice and All Might's, now that you've mentioned it! That's so cool!
Natto didn't exactly sound up my alley in terms of taste! Haha, but to be fair, I don't like hot dogs at all, either! :D I loved his scenes with Eiji, bonding over pumpkins and mackerel. It's a sad contrast to his inner demons coming out, in hating what he is in Golzine's world and you can tell he would just like to be with Eiji and be free from all the mafia business and Banana Fish, but sadly, here we are... I LOVE that Ash is so well-educated; you can tell he got that from his brother Griff, who Max and Ash have both said was a poet and a smart person. I can't believe how gutsy Ash was this episode in confronting Golzine, but wow...it added such tension!
And Max is ever the foreboding presence these last two episodes, reminding Ash what's at stake here. And the Halloween scene was sooooo cute, but so short, too. I needed more of that, and less of the Banana Fish angst coming back in. Ahhh, next episode is going to be a doozy. I'm ready for you all to see it, though!
