  • Let's call this episode: "Ash, Eiji, and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad [Indiscriminate Period of Time]."
Ash spirals into madness and despair, Eiji makes bold decision, Dragon Moon makes some diva demands and alliances, and NONE of this looks promising for a happy fate for our protagonists...
...Uhm...Banana Fish, if you want to give me back some of those happy moments, I'll take them now, please! *nervous laugh*

This episode is hard to watch. Ash suffers so much. I was thinking about Ash's breakdown and I realized that since the manga came out in the early nineties gay marriage wasn't legal. If a couple wanted to get married one of them "adopted" the other. If you look at it that way you realize that Golzine is basically marrying Ash as well as adopting him, hence his comment about making Ash a "chasted wife". It's basically just gross on sooo many levels.
Thanks for the reaction. Can wait for next week's episode!

This episode WAS HARD, I agree. We've seen Ash suffer and know he's been through hell, but it all comes to a head here and to see just how cruel Golzine can be to him...and ooooooooooh, DAMN. I didn't realize that "adoption" aspect with Golzine and Ash and the "chaste wife" line. Oh my GOD, that adds a whole other disgusting layer to the situation. WOW. Thank you for tat information and the comment! Next week....hoo boy.

Episodes 9 and 19 are the hardest episodes for me to rewatch. Both of them display Golzine's true depravity.
I think he reacted to Ash's breakdown like that because he doesn't want to be reminded that the child that he spent years abusing (and letting other people abuse) is an actual PERSON, with feelings. Ash's usual reaction to Golzine is defiance or feigned indifference; Golzine isn't used to seeing him vulnerable or losing control.
Yuuma Uchida deserves every award available for his job with Ash's breakdown. I can't imagine how difficult it was to deliver those lines.
Blanca's condition for helping Yut-Lung is interesting; I think he said it because he knows that Ash wouldn't go after Yut-Lung unprovoked, therefore he would have no real reason to have to kill Ash. Yut-Lung has deluded himself into thinking that Ash sees him as a threat; poor thing.
And props to Eiji for uniting THREE different gangs together to save Ash! I'm glad he stopped blaming himself for Ash's decisions. Yut-Lung wanted Eiji to fall apart with guilt, and, as usual, Yut-Lung didn't get what he wants.🤦‍♀️
I really look forward to your reviews! They're very interesting and thorough.

YES! We truly see Golzine's god complex and cruelty on display in both, but especially this episode! Yes, he and other abusers demoralize and dehumanize their victims and he's in such stark denial of the reality of the situation of how Ash has been treated...it's insane, and when Ash finally cracks and spits it in his face the truth of the situation, Golzine snaps, too. UGH.
Uchida is just STELLAR in this role, but that "breaking point," I don't know if I could have been in the studio with him acting those lines....that was just a MASTERFUL performance!
And that's a really good way of saying it: "Yut-Lung has deluded himself into thinking that Ash sees him as a threat..." he thinks he matters to Ash, but really...not really. I find his conditions with Blanca interesting, if not nerve-wracking, because Blanca's neutrality makes him SO threatening.
And wow, YEAH, Eiji really did bring everyone together; of course, they all came together for Ash, so that says a lot for both Ash and Eiji! Eijij finally stands up for himself, and yes -- another plan foiled for Dragon Moon. It'll be interesting when Yut-Lung gets to HIS breaking point...hmmm...
Thank you so much for the kind words! I have a feeling these last several episodes are going to be long ones. This has been the longest so far! @_@

  • @Anita_Tiraganda

I think what makes Ash's breakdown worse is that, when you think about it, Ash hasn't had a proper father figure in his life (apart from Max). His own dad didn't really seem to care much about what happened to him as a kid, and was hostile to him when he returned to cape cod. His little league coach was a rapist and a murderer. Blanca was only really a "teacher" to him, and even then, I feel like being an assassin implies that he didn't care much for Ash. And Golzine, as we know, is absolute trash, and is by far the worst out of all of them. So for him to suddenly be like "hey, you're going to call me DAD", I can't imagine how much trauma is added on to however much trauma Ash has already accumulated from this man.
While I know Blanca and the coach aren't neccesarily father figures, they're notable enough for me.
Max is really the only one who has been consistently decent with Ash, and even considers him as his own son. But idk, watching the breakdown is always really sad.
Anyways, love the reaction, as always!
Also sidenote: and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Ash's voice actor got an award for this role (can't remember if it was for the breakdown scene itself or the role in general) but I thought I'd point that out.

    • @Sonjay718
      @Sonjay718 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Also, Ash must've felt some sense of betrayal when Blanca returned. He may be a terrible role model, but at least he wasn't a creep, yet he came back just to send Ash back to his abuser. That had to hurt Ash's feelings a bit.

YES! And even Max hasn't been the "best" -- though he's the best out of all of them, haha! -- he's went from an apathetic and neglecting father who made bad decisions to Golzine, who is the WORST, to having a professional assassin as a teacher and potential father figure, though (like you said) he seems pretty distant. Yeah, that part was so shocking! It's like all the trauma came to a head and Ash just couldn't take it anymore. Ugh, it's SO SAD.

Oooooh damn, this episode!!! 🙊🙉🙈 desperation and despair, INDEED!
Blanca and Yut-Lung, damn. I still wonder if the "Yut-Lung knows my past" reason to accept the deal isn't just an excuse for Blanca. After all, he doesn't accept right away when Yut-Lung tells him that, so I don't think he feels entirely threatened by it. Why would he? He's not married, doesn't seem to have a family, doesn't work in this field anymore... What harm could the leaking of this info do? But he accepts the deal just after Yut-Lung's attack, he says " u have too many ennemies for someone ur age", and I wonder if his change of heart isn't about that : he sees Yut-Lung, a kid who lives in this terribly dangerous world and can never be free of this life, and it reminds him of a blond kid he knows. A blond kid he can't protect. Idk, I don't get Blanca's character very well, but it seems to me that he choses to help Yut-Lung essentially because of how Ash-like he is.
I love ur "Yut-Lung 's big scheme" theory, him orchestrating the attack to make Blanca change his mind, and to let Eiji's team know about this. But I'm not sure : Yut-Lung wanted to hire Blanca to kill Eiji, not to be a bodyguard, so wouldn't have he pointed Eiji as the ennemi, when Blanca asked him? Well, he's a snake though, so yeah, maybe the scheme is that much more elaborate, he would have known that Blanca would only accept a bodyguard job, so he'd have to make Blanca kill Eiji, as a bodyguard, but Idk, that would mean Yut-Lung is still totally unaware of who Eiji is : my baby has shown us more than once that he's probably unable to kill, and even if he was somehow forced to, he wouldn't :
    1 shoot a disarmed Yut-Lung,
2 shoot someone who isn't an immediate threat to Ash's life. Ash is Dino's prisonner, not Yut-Lung's, so if Eiji chose to ever fire on someone during this event, it would more likely be Dino, right?
But one could argue that Yut-Lung is basically unable to understand the motivations of a person like Eiji, and therefore predict his actions, so it's a great theory, I think.
I love how Eiji called him in this episode, it seems so child vocabulary right? But if u think about it, Yut-Lung kinda is the gang equivalent of schoolyard bullies : he has a harsh back story that made him sad-to-bad, and made him go intimidate and attack people unprovoked, before people could have a chance to harm him. At this point in the story, neither Ash of Eiji are a direct threat to him. But he's still attacking, still villain-ploting, for no other reason than pettiness ? ... Yut-Lung, you bully!
The breakdown scene, oh my fucking god, I still vomit a little in my head when I hear Golzine says those things. His God complex is at his peak in this scene : he wants to own everything that is Ash : his body, his soul, his identity, his past without him, he wants to make him a son and a wife at the same time, build him at his image (to succeed him he says, but I think it's more than legacy in Dino's crazy mind), and if he can't have him entirely, he want to be the master of Ash's death. Wtf Dino, the fusion of every single shrink in the USA is not a good enough therapist for what's inside ur brain...
I'm not sure Ash is knowingly trying to kill himself by starving. He can't break this rule because it would be too dangerous for his Eiji, and that's the only thing that matters to him rn. But I think that Ash already feels kinda dead at this point (remember that last episode, he shot himself in the head). Not entirely dead since he still bites and roars a little, but I really think that the only life force he has at this point isn't used to make himself function and be protected, but only used to protect Eiji by his merely existence in Dino's world. He doesn't really lives, in this episode. He only exists. Dead people don't need to process food, so Ash won't. Ugh,I could do an entire Ted Talk about Ash's eating disorders in this show BTW but this commentary is already too long 😂
Thanks for ur reaction, see u next week ! (a valentine's day on stage four, let's see how this works out 😂)

Yea, the anorexia thing threw me off, because, from what I know, anorexia is about starvation in order to lose weight. I think Ash just literally could not stomach any food.

    • @miniglub
      @miniglub 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@Sonjay718 I think anorexia is a little bit more complex than that, it isn't about weight in itself, but it's often about gaining/increasing control. A lot of abused people are understandably craving for control over some elements of their life, and this craving is the perfect nest for eating disorders. One could argue that Ash being blackmailed into Dino's prison is a perfect example of a deep lack of control, but I agree with you : I don't think Ash seeks control here, he just feels dead and therefore his eating and digestive system doesn't function properly. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have ED. There's other hints of it in other episodes.
I think they call it anorexia in this episode to point the fact that the problem comes from his mental state, not from a disease.

Ever since Episode 14, I've been like -- desperation and despair, eh? -- but this episode CEMENTED IT. @_@
I don't give much thought to my theories with this show, because it's all been proven so wrong before! But it all seems soooo coincidental with Sing just being there to hear the date. It all feels like a lure to get Eiji there, but you bring up some great points, especially about Blanca. For as neutral as he is, and as much as he claims to get no "emotions" involved, he definitely seems to have found a slight soft spot for Yut-Lung...for now at least. I LOVE Eiji's reference of him as a "bully," because it's so true and fits Eiji's innocent personality well. Plus, Dragon Moon just doesn't know when to stop -- he antagonizes and drags things out when they don't need to be. He can be his own worse enemy, and I wonder how long Blanca is going to go along with him...we shall see, right?!
And Mannn, that breakdown scene was SO HARD. Golzine is so sickening and we finally see his cruelty on full display. And yes, he is so high on his god complex that he cannot see the reality of the situation...like Blanca said, we need psychiatrists in this, not therapists. @_@
I had honestly not considered the part about Ash and his eating disorders until you brought it up, but that is SUCH a good point! Until Blanca noted in the warehouse that Ash hadn't kept his body "in shape," I hadn't thought about it, but Ash really hasn't been good with his body and health...and now that he's in this pit of despair, it's just amplified. Please do a Ted Talk on Ash's eating disorders and this show! I swear, we'll listen!! :D
Thank you for the kind words and the comment! Yes! Valentine's Day and Banana Fish! What a great combo, right?!

    • @miniglub
      @miniglub 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@RomaniaBlack Oh dear lawd, asking me to ted talk, don't you have any survival instincts ? 😂 Ok, Ash and ED then. Short Ted talk.
First, the diner scene in Dino's mansion, 9th episode I think. Dino asks Ash to recognize the wine, and burps with misplaced pride when Ash delivers the show : it tells us that Ash had a serious training on his eating, among all the things he was taught under Dino. He learned how to eat properly to look like an aristocrat, and to maintain his body a pretty thing and an efficient weapon.
That learning only, at a young age, is already ED material.
And that training shows even out of Dino's grip : a scene with Max at the restaurant, shows that Ash is still watching very closely what he eats. Every time he's in front of food with someone, the other is eating but Ash isn't. He drinks, but we never see him chew something, unless it's with Eiji (because everything with Eiji seems to happen out of this world, because soulmaty luuuuuv). But even with Eiji, he doesn't always eat, there's a scene, I don't remember when, where Ash wanna stop a conversation or smt, and he says to Eiji, let's eat, I'm starving. And the scene right after, both of them are sitting at the table, Eiji is eating while talking, but Ash no, he doesn't even have his chopsticks in his hands.
We also learn that he hates burgers, and that his favorite breakfast is avocado & shrimp salad. An american kid's favorite meal is salad, for 🦊 sake !
And then, there's the fight scene with Blanca, when Ash says something like "I don't want to be a big pile of muscle like you", and it had me thinking : why doesn't he want to be more muscular : his fight skills would be more efficient, he would protect himself and others better with more muscles, right ? But improving his body in that way would create a big physical change, and therefore would undermine his other deadly weapon : seduction. He got up higher than low prostitute with his brain, but also with his looks. Becoming more muscular would mean looking like an adult, not a child anymore, and he would loose his influence over every pedo-piece of shit who rules a certain world. So, the only way to keep both seduction and deadly skill would be improving fighting techniques + keeping a perfectly controled alimentation.
Hence the likely anorexia and/or orthorexia.
It's probably not a coincidence that his desperation in this episode expresses itself through alimentation. It's ingrained in his body, that his survival partly depends on the way he eats.
Ok Imma stop there, cause bedtime.
So, yeah, this was (almost) short, right?
      ...
      right?
      ...
      sorry ...

The chaotic last bit of Banana fish is really underway, get ready for non-stop assaults and escapes and new major characters too, even this late in the game. Definitely the most difficult part of the show to keep track on everyone's actions and motivations. But since you've done so well until this i'm sure you'll be able to react and discuss fine :D Exited to see what the fifth stage will be :0 Ash breaking down this episode really highlight the desperation and despair the show is no longer shying away from. By the way, it's hard to catch in the anime but Sing says Yut Lung spread rumors about the Vietnamese killing his brothers to cover up the murders. The cook was likely taking vengeance for those accusations.

Ok I know i'm late but i recently rewatched Banana Fish for the second time but this episode was hard for me to watch since I knew what was going to happen to Ash. I sobbed the entire episode non-stop like I couldn’t stop crying at this episode and another 5 minutes after because I just couldn’t produce anymore tears. Ash's breakdown made it even worse. I literally felt so sick that I even felt like throwing up. Lmao idk if Im overreacting but this episode was so sad I hate that he had to go through all of this :(

I'm a bit late this week but better than never.XD
Yuma is one of my fav seiyuu's and I've watched a lot of anime with him and he's always awesome but Yuma voiced this breakdown scene so good that it still gives me goosebumps.
Ash is strong but he's also just a kid. I'm still really suprised that he didn't break before all of this. Almost every character said/thought that Ash is a wild beast or lynx but Eiji was one of the only ones who said that he's not, that he's a human like everbody else. That's a contrast that I really like.
I never really thought about ,that Yut-lung could have set this whole situation up. That's really interesting.
In this show it's really hard to predict what's gonna happen next.XD

You're never too late to the Banana Fish party! XD
Yeah, his voice acting was just CHILLING this entire episode -- it's been amazing throughout the entire series, but he takes it to another level with scenes from this episode.
And Yut-Lung is SUCH a snake, I don't put anything past him at this point -- he may not be a 200 IQ like Ash, but he's crafty and smart, and driven by hate -- which is a deadly combination. Thank you so much for the comment! I NEVER know what's going to happen at the end of these episodes! It definitely keeps us on our toes, right?!

First of all, I really don't like that they translated it into "You bully" because Eiji actually called him a fool/idiot in the scene, but that's fine I guess XD
Also, I've watched Banana Fish so many times that I can actually tell who are Dino's men, mainly because of the clothes they are wearing (the look of them, the color scheme...), which just shows how much detail is put into this show and I love it XD
I think Ash just couldn't eat. Not that he wanted to kill himself, I think that he felt sick while eating or something like that. I'm pretty sure you already watched the next episode, so I'm gonna say it (in case you haven't, skip to the next part below), food just didn't taste good for him, even though it was probably all expensive, fancy and tasty, he just didn't have the appetite to eat it. Then later, the cheapest food tasted so good when he was with Eiji, because he was happy at the moment. It's very sad, but beautiful in my eyes because of how beautiful Ash's and Eiji's relationship is.
I think that Dino loves Ash in his own, twisted way. It makes me sick just saying it, but I feel like he does genuinely want Ash to be happy with him like he is with Eiji. He tries to help him, gives him the best clothes, food, goes to his favorite opera, etc. He is very possessive and sees himself as his creator, but at the same time, he does all these disgusting things because he wants him to be by his side. He wants to kill Ash HIMSELF because he feels like "I created him, so I'll choose when to end his life", which again, is disgusting, but that's love in his eyes. When Ash started saying those things it hurt him, because Ash was literally like "My life was terrible with you, I don't love you, I want to be away from you" which is everything that Dino doesn't want to hear. He started to hit Ash because he was angry and hurt at his words and didn't want to hear them. He had this image of having this perfect, happy relationship with Ash and it was broken by Ash's words, which triggered him...
Also, Ash just breaking down like that hurt me so much... It's like literally locking a wild beast into a small cage. He lost everything, the only thing that made him happy (Eiji), his freedom... Also, a + to all that is that he did the same things every day. Just writing (documents?), going on meetings, and the same thing over and over again. That's what most people fall into depression for (aka their life being monotone and boring). So a monotone life without freedom and happiness, where you're forced to do what you don't want to do all the time is just terrible... :'(

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Ooooh!! Fool/Idiot makes more sense, but there's just something so wholesome and adorable about Eiji saying "You bully!" That just cracked me up! XD
Ahhh, that is true! I think on re-watching this series, so many more things are going to stand out! The detail in adapting this show has been SO SO good -- it's one of the reasons I love it so much! And yesss, I have seen Episode 20 (**Screams**) so I know what you're talking about!
Ash has really had a hard time with eating disorders, now that you mention it -- Blanca calls him out on that, but yeah, the show's been really subtle about it but we see it in full force this episode; I'm glad you bring all that up. I just want him to be with Eiji and be happy. Is that so much to ask?
And yes, Dino has SUCH a twisted, god-complex love of Ash and wanting to control him and his "existence." It's disgusting and disturbing, but the show does such a good job of portraying their dysfunctional, toxic relationship, and it all comes to a head here! I agree with all your reasonings in that comment!
And YES, the symbolism of the birds flying away outside the mansion while Ash is trapped inside is so powerful. This episode was HARD to watch! Thank you so much for the comment and info, though! ^^

Ahhh I can't wait for you to watch the next episode (you already have, right?) because your grand scheme is...well, you know :) I agree Yut-Long set up the "attack" to gain Blanca's trust or sympathy or whatever. I thought at the time that Blanca had his own reasons for agreeing - I was mostly right in what I guessed (for a change, lol). Oh, if Blanca went AWOL from the Spetsnaz, then there's a good chance they would come for him if they discovered he was still alive and kicking - I think that's the main hold Yut-Long has after researching Blanca's background. I think Sing just happened to be there - he wanted to find out the date of the party.
I love Blanca's character. For such a late addition to the cast, he just takes over the scenes. So mysterious and dangerous and yet...kind as well. I think Golzine is reminding himself (and not listening, ha) not to let his emotions get in the way. Blanca...well, has emotions but never lets them stop him from thinking logically and rationally - that's why he's so scary. And I think he has a soft spot for young guys like Ash and Yut-Long. Maybe they remind him of himself at that age - the manga does give us a little more background on him.
Anyways...loved your reaction, as always. And tomorrow - Mo Dao Zu Shi, yay!

Wellll, yes, I have watched Episode 20. Hoo boy.
Blanca is such a surprise, especially this late in the game! He has SUCH presence and I agree; he owns whatever scene he's in! His neutrality is probably what's most scary -- he uses it to his advantage a lot and it makes him dangerous. I definitely think he has a soft spot for those younger and impressionable -- like Ash and Dragon Moon -- which the latter looks ALL the more ready to exploit. And that's scary.
Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! Poor Sing and Eiji, caught up in all this...and YESSSSS, MDZS tomorrow! So ready!!

It is Episode19 very tension increases!!
Since the last episode had a very sad ending, I don't think this episode was reassuring and I think it was watched with anxiety😢
I was curious about what your reaction would be like this time...
Let's look back on the anime with my comments while holding down various points👐 【There is no spoiler, so don't worry👍】
    👇
This time, as you feel, it was a very sad episode.
The title "Ice Palace" seemed to show Ash's feelings and current situation, which made me feel more sad.
It further disturbed our emotions and caused a storm of sorrow.
Ash...I can't find the words to give him. So much sadness and suffering fell on Ash😭
In the opening scene, Yut Lung continued to show intense jealousy towards Eiji.
He tried to make a "contract" with Blanca, but Blanca refused. I was a little relieved, but...hmm, How will become...?💦
In the quarrel between Eiji and Yut Lung, it was very well expressed how much Eiji values Ash.
It was a very nice scene.
➡ Originally Eiji is a mentally strong person.
Since he is a former athlete, he will be learning mental control and strengthening, and he is mentally much stronger than Ash.
    (=Sometimes Eiji show a stubborn side😅)
Eiji does not have anything of the forces at the battle, but he has been enough to support Ash in terms of spirit and has helped Ash many times👍
Yut Lung utters harsh words to hurt Eiji's heart, but Yut Lung is defeated without affecting Eiji😅
➡ Eiji, who was not afraid of Yut Lung and expressed his opinion firmly, felt that his spirit was really mature.
Due to Eiji's words and deeds, Yut Lung is getting more and more jealous💦
Yut Lung, who throws a cup at Sing and complains, looks a little cute like a child.
➡ However, because of his terrible behavior so far, I felt that way with "momentary emotions"...😅
And I once again thought of Sing's as a really nice boy. Although he is only 15 years old, he is a very calm, tolerant and kind boy.
He is, as indeed, a boy recognized by Shorter.
➡ However, I am concerned that if even the same Chinese Sing moves away from Yut Lung, the spirit of Yut Lung may become even more unstable😰
(=Personally, I don't see Yut Lung as "completely evil" and I don't really hate him.)
And when Ash learned about the "work" he was doing at Dino's mansion, I was angry with Dino😡
Dino's way of taking Eiji as a hostage and hunting down Ash's spirit only created disgust.
➡ Dino forcibly imposes brain labor on Ash and tells him to sell his soul instead of his body.
Again, I had only the words "worst!😣".
Even when Dino forcibly kissed Ash, he shouted in his heart, "No!! Don't touch him!!!".
In addition, Dino uses medicine to deprive Ash of his eyesight so that he cannot escape. Dino chooses a cruel method thoroughly.
Ash is trapped in a mansion, forced to do work he doesn't want to do every day, and loses his vitality.
The brilliance of his eyes is also lost, and Ash's expression is hollow.
At last, Ash collapses in front of Blanca without.
I could feel the harshness of the current situation that Ash is facing, and all the scenes were really painful to watch😥
➡ The work forced by Dino is also a factor, but first of all, I think that not being able to meet Eiji is undermining Ash's spirit.
Meanwhile, the scene has changed, and Eiji is discussing the Ash rescue operation with members of "Chinatown Street Gang Team" such as Sing and "Team:Lynx" such as Alex.
Sing, who has information on the "party" held by Dino, says he will look into details such as the date and time.
He is a really reliable boy.
    It is reassuring.
This time, Sing advises that you shouldn't rely on Ash, who will be taken to the party.
Lynx members are wondering, but Dino will never hold a "party" without any "countermeasures"!!
I fully agree with Sing's opinion.
After hearing Sing's advice, Eiji decides, "I will definitely protect Ash!!".
This Eiji was also reliable, cool and nice😉
Eiji made up his mind and asked Alex to lend him a gun.
Eiji-! Please do not do anything reckless!!😣 I prayed in my heart🙏
Blanca whispers sweet words to a woman in the hotel bathroom😚
This seeing the scene, the jealousy Yut Lung gets in the way again.
    ➡ Only here was a comical scene, so I laughed a little😅
However, Blanca's "past/career" revealed by Yut Lung after that was very shocking.
Details about his wife "Natasha" will be revealed in the future, so please look forward to it♪
And now the secret of Blanca's strength is revealed.
It is surprising that he was a special agent (=lieutenant colonel) belonging to "Spetsnaz".
I understood that he should be strong.
Because, "Spetsnaz" is a "powerful combat corps" competing for 1.2 in the world!!
Blanca's expression, which seemed to feel "guilty" towards Ash, was sad...😥
And! Episode 19 "The Greatest Highlights".
It gave us the greatest "shock".
It is a scene of a conversation (=fierce quarrel) between Ash and Dino in the bedroom.
Each word that Dino utters becomes a knife, which deeply hurt Ash's heart. It was exactly "verbal violence"😰
Dino decides to adopt him in order to completely restrain Ash.
When Ash hears the words, he feels hopeless, imagining that he will be completely deprived of his freedom.
➡ As Ash said, this was a "grotesque joke"...😫 Ash's heart breaks, he abandons himself, and spits out a lot of words that hurt himself😭
Ash's words and laughter here only convey pain, exposing the misery and deep heart scars of sexual abuse he has suffered since childhood, and I wanted to cover my eyes...
➡ This scene was too shocking and tearful when I read it in manga too😢
And, It left a scar on my heart...
"Stop! Don't hurt Ash anymore!!"...I screamed in my heart. At that time, I couldn't help but hate Dino.
※In anime Mr. Uchida's wonderful acting was a realistic expression of Ash's sad psychology, so the spiciness was doubled.
Of Japan the acting ability of the voice actor is really wonderful and commendable.
The scene changes, and Blanca and Sing meet for the first time.
These two people are also full of highlights in many ways, so please look forward to it👐
It may have been "lucky" that they happened to come to the scene where Yut Lung was targeted for life.
Eventually, the criminal committed suicide and Yut Lung was shot in shoulder...💦

And, finally...Blanca has signed a "contract" with Yut Lung. The anxiety I felt at the beginning scene has become a reality.

➡ However, the only “conditions” presented by Blanca was a fragment of hope.
Sing's hears "the date and time of the party" from the conversation between Blanca and Yut Lung.

➡ Only this was good information gathering. ➡ This saves me the trouble of getting information from Yut Lung👌
Blanca reports to Dino that he has "contracted" with Yut Lung.
There is an increasingly ominous atmosphere😫
And Eiji and others are steadily preparing for the rescue of Ash.
➡ Here, Cain reappears!! His cooperation is encouraging.
As I commented one day, Cain is a really nice person!
     I very like him too😘
Dino's last word, "Come, my son".
And the blind Ash's in a wheelchair... Everything was an ending that filled my heart with anxiety.
The anime "Banana Fish" with 5 episodes left...🍌🐟
It may stir up a storm in your heart...🤔
See you in the comments of Episode 20~👋
Thank you for reading this far. Cheers to Episode 20🥂✨

Yesss, I like that these titles not only connect to pieces of literature, but also the mood/emotions of the episode and "Ice Palace" was a perfect choice for this episode to represent the mansion Ash was "stuck" in as well as connect to the literature.
I was relieved that Blanca didn't just instant go along with Dragon Moon -- he had to create a "contract." And yessss, Eiji has always been a mentally strong person! He's not experienced in "Ash's world" and how it works, but he's always been a strong presence, which I love, and he finally gets to show it off here! I am really hopeful he makes good decisions, though, moving forward!
And the Ash/Golzine scene was terrifying! It was disgusting seeing how cruel Golzine can truly be and how delusional he is as well. The tension in that scene with Ash and the scene between Blanca and Dragon Moon was palpable! Again, Mr. Uchida should be praised because that voice acting in his breakdown with Golzine was INCREDIBLE. Possibly his best acting so far this series, and my heart BROKE for his character!
Now it's all a matter of the rescue of Ash! I am nervous, but I guess we'll see how it plays out! Thanks for the comment!!

      Thank you for your reply💞
Yes! As you say, "Banana Fish" reflects the titles and words that appear in the novels of real-life world-famous novelists.
I think this is because the original author "Akimi Yoshida-Sensei" is inspired by J.D. Salinger's background and novels.
As you know, the novel that appeared in conversations with Ash and others, became the source of the title "Banana Fish", and reflects the world view a little.
It is a story called "A Perfect day for Banana fish" recorded in the short story "Nine Stories" by J.D. Salinger.
Ernest Hemingway's "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" also appeared during the conversation between Ash and Eiji.
In addition, Ernest Hemingway's "Islands in the Stream" has also appeared as a favorite book by Blanca.
There are other connections with various novels.
The "titles" of the anime (Episode 1 to 24) are all connected to the novels of these novelists, and sometimes reflect the titles of the novels as they are.
Various things such as the world view, setting, and historical background of these novels are reflected in "Banana Fish" and have an influence.
      I think it's a very nice connection.
※By the way, Hemingway's novel is guess to be Blanca's "favorite", so Ash may have been influenced by Blanca and read her novel "The Snows of Kilimanjaro"🤔
The title of Episode 19 "Ice Palace", as you say, seems to show Dino's mansion where Ash is really trapped, and it also expresses the psychological state of being cold and closed like Ash's ice.
It's the best choice, but I thought it was a very sad title😢
Like the Episode 9 title "Save Me the Waltz", which said goodbye to Shorter, it created a sad atmosphere.
I'm curious about what Blanca and Yut Lung will do through the "contract", and at the same time I'm worried💦
And yes! I want Eiji to rescue Ash as soon as possible and heal Ash's heart wounds with he warm and strong heart.
I want Eiji to make the best choice as much as possible.
Also, the scenes of Ash and Dino were really scary.
Along with fear, great sorrow struck me.
Dino's "madness love" towards Ash is really scary.
Mr. Uchida's acting (Ash's cry) was really real.
※You say that you should be praised for Ash's performance, but in fact, Mr. Uchida, has won the "Best Actor Award" in the "2019's Voice Actor Award"🤗
This is the result of many people recognizing the acting of Ash, who played in 2018.
After receiving this award, Mr. Uchida became one of the famous voice actors who have both popularity and ability.
Mr. Uchida rarely played the main character until he played Ash.
However, he became famous for Ash, and after that, he became in charge of many main characters such as Kyo of "Fruit Basket", Uenoyama of "Given", and Fushiguro of "Jujutsu Kaisen".
Mr. Uchida himself responded in an interview with a magazine, saying, "By playing Ash, I've grown a lot as a voice actor. I'm really grateful to have met Ash!".
The power and popularity of the work "Banana Fish" is so strong.
I think the original author, Yoshida-Sensei, created a tremendous "manga".
I am fortunate to meet this manga, and I am grateful to Yoshida-Sensei😊
Eiji and others finally start to rescue Ash😆
Let's pay attention to episode 20 where tension continues to rise~👋

Yes! The Ash that Mr. Uchida acted with "heart and soul" was really wonderful, and I thought that Mr. Uchida was able to grow up with Ash🤗
➡ I think that the wonderfulness is transmitted to all the viewers.
What is the "Voice Actor Award🏆" that Mr. Uchida also participated in and won...
This is the biggest award ceremony in the voice actor industry, which has been held every March since 2007.
The "15th Voice Actor Award🏆" will be held in March this year, but it is estimated that it will be held "online distribution" in consideration of the influence of the coronavirus as in last year.
➡ Normally, the prizewinners will meet at the venue and receive the awards on stage.
As introduced in the previous comment, Mr. Uchida won the "Best Actor Award🏅" at the award ceremony in March 2019 in recognition of Ash's achievements in 2018.
In this way, the prizewinners (voice actors) are selected based on the achievements of the previous year.
(=Participation in the blockbuster anime of the previous year/Percentage of the leading role...etc.)
      It's like Hollywood's "Academy Awards🏆".
Since it has been held since 2007, all the award prizewinners (voice actors) are famous people😊
      👇
By the way, in 2007 (first held),
◎ Mr. Fukuyama won the Best Actor Award🏅
(He is in charge of "Code Geass" Lelouch, "Banana Fish" Yut Lung, etc.)
◎ Romi Paku won the Best Actress Award🏅
(She is in charge of "Attack on Titan" Hanji etc.)
      Also,
◎ Mr. Miyano. (He is in charge of "Free!" Rin, "Haikyuu" Atsumu Miya, etc.)
◎ Mr. Kamiya. (He is in charge of "Attack on Titan" Levi, "Haikyuu" Takeda-Sensei, etc.)
◎ Mr. Hirata. (He is in charge of "Banana Fish" Max, "ONE PIECE " Sanji, etc.)
◎ Mr. Kaji. (He is in charge of "Attack on Titan" Ellen, "Haikyuu" Kenma, etc.)
◎ Mr. Toyonaga. (He is in charge of "Yuri on Ice" Yuuri, "Run with the Wind" Haiji, etc.)
◎ Mr. Hanae. (He is in charge of "Kimetsu no Yaiba" Tanjirou, "Haikyuu" Hoshiumi, etc.)
...Many other voice actors such as is, and has won "the prize".
By the way, the voice actors who will be selected for the "15th Voice Actor Award (held in March)" predicted by voice actor fans are...,
◎ Mr. Hanae. (The movie "Kimetsu no Yaiba", which was released in theaters at the end of last year, became the No.1 box office revenue and was a big hit! He is in charge of the main character, Tanjirou.)
◎ Mr. Hino. (The reason is the same as Mr. Hanae. Also, he is in charge of one of the main characters in the movie, Rengoku.)
◎ Akari Kitou. (The reason is the same as Mr. Hanae. She is in charge of Nezuko.)
◎ Mr. Enoki. (Because he played the leading role in many anime, including Yuuji from "Jujutsu Kaisen".)
➡ It's just a "guess", so I'll check the results at the awards ceremony held in March♪
Return the comment to "Banana Fish"😅
Wow!! Did you buy some of the original manga "Banana Fish (English translation)"?? Very nice👐
And, you the 6th and 7th volumes have already been read, which is also wonderful.

Whether Ash was influenced by Blanca and read Hemingway's novel is just a my "prediction", so I don't know the "truth".
But, as you say! I thought, "It would be nice if that was the case♪"🤗
       Hahaha😁
I'm glad you like this "prediction"♪
       Yes! Cheers for Episode 20🥂✨

@@KA_7788 Thank you for all this information! That is so cool about the voice acting awards! I am also so impressed and shocked that Mr. Hanae is BOTH Hoshiumi and Tanjiro! That is hilarious because their characters are SO different! :) And Enoki is killing it as Yuuji! I love his voice acting!!
And yes, I managed to find Volumes 1-13, 15, 17-19 to buy -- I'll just need to find volumes 14 and 16. :) I'm excited -- it's definitely an amazing series! Hopefully, I'll be all caught up by the end! Cheers to Episode 20!
