The calm before the storm -- that pumpkin scene always gets me because it starts so wholesome and then there's that Banana Fish injection of PAIN. Next episode is one of my favorites in the show, though, so...fun times, ahead, right? When they asked about why they didn't send the picture through the cell phone -- it's one of those rare moments when the "update" on the series is to its detriment. The series is set in the late 80's, but the anime updates things -- for the most part, you'd never know, but there's a few tiny details that make you head-scratch, this being one of them. But again, it's so minute, and I applaud the adaptation for making the "modern" updates seamless in their integration.
I also feel like you guys are missing the point. The reason why Ash thinks Eiji is going to hate him is because Ash hates himself. He sees blood on his own hands. He calls himself a murderer and he refuses to give Eiji a gun because he doesn't want Eiji to get corrupted by him. Ash knows that no matter what happens, he is going to have to kill people more and more and more and he believes that it's a matter of time before Eiji starts despising him the way he despises himself

The author refers to Ash and Eiji as soulmates in the manga "who loved each other maybe like lovers do" basically they had feelings for each other but couldn't act on them bcs of their situation 😔
to be fair she said a lot of contradictory things! she said she wanted a story to show the love of friendship could be as strong as romance.. YOSHIDA: Yes, and that's why I never considered making the relationship between the two of them a romantic one.
I feel like having a label on Eiji’s and Ash’s relationship doesn’t matter. They both have a bond and fondness for one another that is special to them. They love each other very much and that’s a canonical fact. It is romantic, but I imagine the author didn’t mean it in a lovers way. It’s more poetic, considering they enjoy literature. Who knows? Maybe author has/will change their mind, but that doesn’t change the dynamic between Eiji and Ash any more or any less.

Honestly the part of this show that stresses me out the most is how the good moments always end in immense PAIN. For the life of me I can't bring myself to rewatch the show on my own TvT. The pumpkin party is both very sweet and very anxiety-inducing TT.TT (Reccomending the bros to react to Link Click again. And also Hyouka)

Eiji was actually supposed to be a girl but the author made him a guy instead bc asheiji’s relationship would be too “predictable” if you know what I mean 👀💞💞(despite it all plenty of people interpret their relationship as romantic regardless, me included)
I mean...Their relationship IS romantic, it's just not depicted in a conventional way. It's not sexual because Ash has been overly sexualized his whole life and right now he just needs love and affection. With Eiji, Ash feels like it's the first time he actually receives love without giving something first. Eiji just wants to stay by Ash's side, he doesn't ask for anything else and it's very new for Ash. The author did say that their relationship would end up being sexual with time but it would be built entirely on love and trust. In Garden of Light, everyone refers to Ash and Eiji's relationship as more than just friendship, they are soulmates. I think there's a misconception that Ash and Eiji's relationship is aromantic when it's in fact asexual.
@@camilledumeige3 I feel as if the author is forever contradicting herself bc she will say they are soulmates one minute and then say “ash isn’t actually gay” in one of her interviews so 🤡 I too find asheiji to be romantic but I feel as if soulmates can again be interpreted as something as platonic and/or romantic so you can look at asheiji however you want because that’s what a soulmate is, and yoshida (or sing) describes their relationship perfectly by saying “they were more than that” when akira asks if ash is eiji’s lover, I feel as if their relationship is so layered that simply calling them “lovers” falls flat, their relationship is so much *more* (but yeah to simplify it they are gay and in love) I think this is the sort of feel the author was going for when writing their relationship
