    Excellent tutorial. You saved the day. The dealerships want you to replace the whole vehicle for a new one. And you get a free battery for your new key fob.

    ProTip: To help retain the screw by keeping it from bouncing into another dimension, work over a towel.

    Thank you so much for your video. For anyone who did this and it didn't fix functionality, i discovered that 2 of the 3 button discs were dislodged from the rubber button strip. I cleaned them and the rubber and super glued them back on. I wouldnt have even noticed them if it hadn't been for the PANIC button one still being attached. Thanks again for your video!

    I thought my problem was just battery... the fob would lock the truck, but not unlock. I had to remove the actual key and use that. When I opened the fob to replace the battery I discovered that on the other side of the circuit board the little round disc that contacts the pads on the circuit board was displaced to the side. I pushed it back into position... it will stick in place by dielectric grease on the board... put the board back in that half of the fob, new battery, reassembled, and voila! Worked like new.

    Thanks a bunch. Mine had no screw. A new fob around here costs $200 roughly with an all day trip to the dealership. Read the comments too. Very good discoveries and ideas shared.

      Do you just pull it apart considering there's no screw? Mine has no screw either but I don't want to just pull it apart and risk breaking it? TIA

    good to know about that little screw otherwise I would have broken the fob and its the only one I have, so with tow charges and obtaining 2 more fobs plus waiting time you prolly saved me 1000 dollars or so---all because I would have missed that little itty bitty screw. Man, do I miss the days when you could just cut a key for 3 dollars.

      Still can, just get the key that slides in the fob cut, that way you’ll always have a back up physical key

    Thanks for the video. Mine was pretty dirty. I washed all the parts except for the circuit board. On the back side of the circuit board I took a Qtip and dipped it in alcohol to clean the circuit board points on the back.

    When I change these button batteries and such, I ALWAYS use cotton gloves or a clean paper towel. Anything to keep the oils from my skin contacting the battery or internal components. Fingerprints can generate corrosion and that is the last thing needed in delicate electronics. So, don't touch the battery removing it from packaging or installing, with the bare fingers. Thanks for the very good clip.

    It might be in your best interest to wear a latex glove if possible when changing your battery, as to avoid putting corrosive oils from your fingers into the battery compartment of your key fob. You might notice many watchmakers do the same for similar reasons.

    • @luisbarillas7768

      No, you don't have to. Works great right after!

    • @wendygerrish4964
      @wendygerrish4964 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I didn't have to. It could happen but it sounds highly unlikely that the loss of working power for fob would wipe out its program or code or whatever.

    If they battery gets weak, will it start causing the horn to chirp a few times?.. I’m pretty sure the buttons are more sensitive than when it was new…. I came out of a store one time and the truck was running with the doors locked… must have hit the button twice while in my pocket

  • @crispyapple3053

    Does anyone else have this same problem? I keep my fob attached with my house keys and (used to be) in my pockets at all times, pant pockets in summer or coat pockets in winter, no differrence with the problem. In the past year, my car has autostarted at least 3 times that I remember, probably more, unlocked or locked countless times. Compared to my previous fob where I had to be with 50 feet, this fob works for several hundred feet away and so is much more dangerous, I am afraid I might accidentally unlock my truck with valuables left inside. Its only a year and half and my fob no longer works, battery dead I suppose which brought me here. My last vehicle's fobs are almost 20 years old and both still work never changed the battery. To add insult to injury, when my fob failed, I tried to use the key and the alarm goes off, I had to jump in quick to restart the car just to stop the alarm. I'm afraid to carry my RAM fob in my pocket which was my regular habit with my last vehicle that I had for 17 years, I now have to leave my keys laying around somewhere and then have to remember where.

      Crispy Apple , if it’s the only thing in your pocket (and not attached to anything else), you can face the buttons towards your leg so that there will never be any focused pressure on any single button, even if you’re leaning against something.

    • @misterl1668
      @misterl1668 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had this problem but in my case the alarm would just trigger with the slightest touch on the fob. No matter the angle in side the pocket. I even started keeping it on a carabiner clip outside my pockets. I'm not sure what the problem is so I just started using my other fob, took the battery out of the sensitive one and gave it to my wife as a spare. You can still use it to crank it up, and use the key inside the fob to unlock the door.

    Came.hwre because I couldn't get the right size driver. While it wasn't listed here it was still a helpful video, so take my updoot.
    For those wondering how much smaller you need to go because your triple zero Phillips isn't working, it's because you went too small.
    Ph00 or double zero Phillips is the right size.
