      I have a 4.7 V8 and I had to replace the motor at 87K. I have read others had this problem too. Have you seen many of these motor failures?

      +Sa Ra Thanks for checking us out! We personally have not seen much of this issue but as you stated it can and does happen, not specifically with this generation but overall there are some engines that aren't quite perfect. Unfortunately with issues like this the only thing that can be done is to be on top of your maintenance and change your fluids often to avoid any increase in the chance of issues happening.

      As far as the issues around moisture getting into the fuse box, is there anything I can do to actively prevent moisture from getting in there or is it just something I can’t prevent and have to deal with if it goes bad?

    Im a ford guy. But i have a have a 2015 ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 5.7.
    Honestly every brand has issues, no truck is perfect. I work in concrete but I cant afford a bigger truck. I load up mine with up to 2500 lbs in the bed at times. ive pulled close to 12000lbs with a trailer. No issues with the truck so far. Running strong. Its all about maintenance and some tlc. Yeah there might be a few lemons here and there but if you take care of your truck it will last regardless of the brand.👍

      The 2014-15 models were rated the least reliable model years for Ram trucks and you aren't having many issues so I should be fine with a used 2009 then.

    Well I have a 2013 Ram with the Hemi and have had two of the problems. I had a radiator hose clamp break and also had the manifold bolts break. The truck has 110,000 miles and those are the only problems I have had. As far as oil consumption I change oil at 5000 miles and the oil level has never been down, it does not use any oil. I love this truck.

    I just bought a 2014 1500 SLT with the 5.7L Hemi, 97,500 miles. I've only had it two weeks - so far, so good. It was a Canadian truck so more rust than normal underneath; that's what I'm targeting first - shocks/struts on all four wheels and the oil pan. Otherwise the engine runs and sounds good, transmission is good. I haven't noticed any coolant issues, my buddy already advised me to keep up the oil changes rigorously.Thanks for the tips, I wasn't aware of the coolant/radiator/water pump stuff. I'll keep an eye on them.

    I have had 2 of them. Never done nothing to the first one 120k miles on the 13 ram still had factory breaks on it when I traded in for a 17 . Excellent truck. I drive them hard and hot rod it every where. My 17 same deal pull a trailer 3 and 4 times a week and drive it fast and hard every day. I have had f150 titan and Silverado all new in last 10 years. None can touch the ram for the abuse I have given these trucks. Ram makes a great truck.

      I own a 2010. I left a comment going into details about this, but it’s starting to seem like (after viewing these types of videos on our 4th gens) 90% of these problems are for the 2013 and after trucks (the ones with all the digital things like the 8 speed automatic transmission) the 2009-2012s are very mechanical trucks and very strong, those are the ones I have experience with and the only issues I’ve ever had were wheel bearings on the front and exhaust manifold bolts. That’s it.

    I noticed you did not mention the "Hemi tick". This has been acknowledged by even FCA engineers. The thing is, this occurs without any mechanical issues. Even the engineers and designers can find no real issue, this could very well be the ticking some people hear. I should mention that this causes no type of misfire and does not show a check engine light.

    • @terryperez2299
      @terryperez2299 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I'm not an engineer but I can tell you it's because the exhaust has too play. It bounces around a little too much and it eventually breaks the back bolts. They need to either make the rubber brackets more stiff or make em a few millimeters shorter

    I just got a 2012 ram 1500 sport 5.7L Hemi with 96k miles on it.
    Within a couple weeks I started noticing the tick down low on passenger side that goes away when the engine warms up signaling it is probably time for exhaust manifold bolts to be replaced. Luckily this doesn't need done immediately so I can save up to replace the exhaust manifold with some headers.
    I've also replace my entire fuse box (or as I've now learned it to be called the TIPM) Because my shut down relay was not being held in tight enough and any little bump caused my truck to shut down. Could put something under the lid to keep it pinned down but wanted a more permanent fix. A used Grade A box was $350. Brand new is around $800+ I think. And it took my shop literally 20 minutes to fix so if you have this problem just do it yourself.
    My radiator is also slightly noisy so if I ever have some extra money to blow I'll get some new fans or do whatever necessary to quiet it down.
    But that's all. Otherwise it runs beautifully and I love my truck.

      The 2003 hemi and dodge in general had more occurring issues back then. The only thing that the new ram really struggles with is cam and lifters because they don’t get properly lubricated from the crank shaft while sitting at idle. If you don’t sit at idle too often. Then they make great trucks.

    Also a major issue with the TIPM: if your fuel pump relay goes (which is common with all cars), you can’t just replace the relay, because it’s integrated into the board. You either need a new TIPM ($500+) or get a third party bypass.

    Had a 2017 2500 as a rail yard shop truck. After 1 year, it started to refuse to start with the fob/key, then auto start. Was corrosion in the starter fuse contacts. A good cleaning and dielectric grease solved that. Not like the earlier boxes in the town and country that would have solder joint failures.

    TY Lin for giving me the courage to work on my own truck, I recently swapped out my first set of plugs (16 pl; 4hrs) and it made a huge difference and reduced a huge amount of shake. Now it only shake a little but my next course of action is to swap out the O2 sensors and the manifolds, hopefully that irons it out.

    Replace your MDS system and delete it. It will need a non MDS lifters and new head gasket, also remove the MDS 4 solenoids on top and plug them correctly with the wires disconnected. Then get a tuner to reprogram the MDS system and have it shut off. It will remove any engine lights from appearing. That's the headache if you hear a slight ticking. Hope that your cam didn't get chewed up and have miss fires if you wait too long for replacement.

    • @gatewaysolo104
      @gatewaysolo104 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've read that there have been failures on the non mds lifters as well. It's ridiculous that the auto industry hasn't figured out how to design a lifter after decades on push rod motors

  • @reggiedaniels6920
    @reggiedaniels6920 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My truck started the lifter tapping about a year & a half ago. I thought that it was something that I had done wrong or forgot to do. Then there is the AC system that stops working when it's hot outside. Work fine otherwise. I had to replace the blower, and the relay for the AC. The trailer circuit is registering a trailer when their isn't one. The park sense circuit on the front of the truck for no discernible reason. The ABS system has started malfunctioning. The code says that it's the front right sensor. So I've order some replacement parts to see if I can remedy some of these issues. I'm happy that I stumbled onto your website and others, because the things that are happening should be happening I've just now after 10 years of driving gone over 161K miles. It should be just in the break-in period.

    Took my 2013 Ram 1500 to my dealer to have my U-connect/Stereo problem diagnosed. I was told the unit had to be replaced and paid for ($600) before it could be ordered. I was told it would be available in 5 - 8 days. It's now been a month and the unit is still on order. Has Chrysler/Ram discontinued the U-connect/stereo? At this point, with all of the problems I have paid to have fixed, I will probably NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER product.

Only issues I ever had are, Exhaust manifold bolts broke under warranty at 34k miles and a shift solonoid in the transmission, both were fixed by dealer at 34k miles, since then Zero issues, been super reliable. My truck has really high oil pressure, more than most I seen from friends etc, zero tick. I drove friends Ram with same setup and did not feel as powerful and ticked, but oil pressure was 1/2 of mine. At start my trucks oil pressure is high 60s, at fully warm parked idle sits at 43, seems like hemi tick may have something to do with oil pressure.

    I had a used 2015 RAM. I got no help with annoying issues. Traded it back after nine months. It had the electrical issues so the TIPM was possibly the issue. The main issue was water and humidity inside the cab. During rain storms water leaked in from front grab handles and windshield. Every afternoon the inside windows were covered in condensation. Then every morning during the winter I had to scrape ice from outside and inside windows. That's when I traded back in because the dealership couldn't figure out why. Very disappointed.

    I have a 2016 ram 1500 express and only issues I’ve had after 5 years and driving 140,000 miles is Water pump, radiator, two batteries, exhaust bolts came loose on passenger side, and tailgate not closing because the inside latches were gunked up so they wouldn’t lock when I would close it. I only use amsoil, or mobile one for 10,000 mile oil changes. Also start it and let the rpms get below 1000 before I start driving. I always take the eco off so I’m not ever running on 4 cylinders with the MDS too. Also installed an oil catch. I drive hard consistently going over 100 mph and push it hard just getting up to speed. Truck has been awesome not one complaint.

    I have a 2017 Ram bighorn. I have noticed that they all have what sounds like a knock or a tick. That's normal. But when it starts to misfire, or stall. Then you need to look further. Also maintaining oil changes is important and using a good filter. Also through the dash menu you can check oil pressure at idle. When cold and when the engine is up to operating temperature. One more thing use a vacuum gauge on these engines. That will tell you what's going on inside the motor. The tailgate is under warranty.

    Never once have I seen a TIPM failure on any dodge or Chrysler lol. The first problem is only on the 6 speed. Every vehicle can suffer the 3rd issue lol. The hemi is notorious for light ticking. I've heard them tick from 30k all the way to 300k lol. The 5.7 is a tried and true motor. Rarely anything that goes wrong as its had about 15 years to figure itt out.
    Big issue is deff those clamps. Especially on the 200s. They're such cheap garbage clamps on the rad hoses. There's 2 at the bottom to.

      I've owned a lot of Dodge Rams before. They aren't bad trucks its just sometimes its a hit or miss when it comes to reliability just like any other vehicle. I had GM and Ford trucks and they weren't any better than Rams. The Ford had tons of electrical issues and the Chevys had transmission and engine failure, frame rust, lines rotting, fuel pumps, etc.
