Last faire I went to I stupidly wore a Koolaid guy face shirt to the event. So for the entire day there, I was addressed as "Lord Koolaid" since the shirt was purple (purple being the color of royalty). Was pretty fun though since the "king" of that Faire played along when he saw me and was like "Lord Koolaid! So good to see you, my old friend! I hope you enjoy your visit here!" lmfao

At my fair we had this “Shakespeare approves” guy and he was hilarious and his cast was all viewers and he opened with little tea pot,Mary had a little lamb,twinkle twinkle little star,and for the finally the abcs ALL to the beat of “We will rock you”.You should try it by yourself

I had friends who worked at a fair in high school. One of them was the “garbage monger.” She would hide in trash cans and when people threw stuff away, she would throw it out of the trash can and insult them. Or sometimes she would grab their hands and try to pull them into the trash can.

I'm a bladesmith and blacksmith in real life so a guy stops by my shop and offers me a job being one at a ren fair and I accept, the first day of it I'm making a Knights sword and I can hear three drunks arguing which one of them could make a real sword when one of them pushes the "kings guard" to the ground and grabs the red hot steel blade I'm forging by the blade and screams "F&@K THAT'S HOT!" And passes out. He lost the hand
I remember in a fair 3 years ago when a staff employee told the children to get a trinket from the barbarian near the stables.
The little monsters just ravaged the guy and started clubbing him down with sticks and wooden weapons. Then shit got real and the barbarian started to grab kids and throw them away.

Getting lice at a renaissance fair just adds to the authenticity.
I remember going to a Renaissance Faire in Tennessee and seeing a guy dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow (pirates aren’t from the Renaissance but whatever). Anyways, I had seen him multiple times that day and he stayed in perfect character all day. Before I left, I heard him yelling “GET AWAY FOUL CREATURE!!!” And saw him running though a crowd while being chased by a lady in a really pretty fairy costume with her arms in front of her like she was trying to capture him to hug him. Funniest thing I had seen that day lol
There's always Jack Sparrows these days. The other weekend I was at a Detroit car show that had one.
Most of the popular depictions of pirates are from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, but piracy in the New World started in the early 16th century, and overlapped the last half of the Renaissance. Me and a couple buddies went to the Carolina renaissance festival last year. My friend walked up to some guy in a full suit of armor and yelled "praise the sun." The guy stopped and did the praise the sun gesture. We also met an ex skinhead who threw knives, a guy who played classic rock on the sitar and an angry Scottish man.
Is that from dark souls? Never played but sounds fun.

Fell on the floor laughing at Sgt Glitter! I used to bring my Greyhound to the Faire in MN and we always went on Wine and Romance Weekend. First year we went, people kept leaving glasses of wine and beer and it turns out my dog loved both. She was too schnockered to walk back to the car and I had to carry her about half a mile!

I know who this was, that brick of glitter cost 65 bucks and he ran out during the show loosing hundreds in sales. Took him a few years to not resent it.
Going back in time means lots of weird problems.
As I worked a California fair my guild was Minding a large Belgian horse for our Knight. We posted a sign do not get behind the horse A teen know it all stood behind the horse for a photo just as horse erupted with diarrhea. That is why we posted the sign.

Before I watch this I would like to answer. On the gross side it would be a toss up between the lady who dropped her phone in the privy :porta potty: and had to fish it out or the lady who complained that someone pissed in the purse holder in the privy. Thos are not purse holders those are urinals. On the cool side someone lost their hubby so we started yelling his name, the food venders near by started yelling his name along with all the people in line, the bar started yelling his name and on till he was found.
Lmao when I was little and I was at a renaissance fair and there was a ton of furries and they kept interacting with leprechauns😂

At the Minnesota Renaissance Festival I was wearing my black leather corseted bodice made by the Leather Rose. My early teen kids were by my side. My hubby was on my left.
I have a large set of girls to begin with, so in this leather they really make an appearance.
As we are walking, this woman dashes up to me with some guy in tow. She suddenly grabs both my breasts through the leather, shakes them and shouts “OMG DO THISE HURT??”
My kids, hubby and myself were completely stunned as she dashed away as fast as she had grabbed me- the smell of alcohol wafting away with her like a miasma.
Years later and we all still don’t quite understand what the hell happened.
The document fire rumor out of the MN Faire is almost certainly true, and honestly one of the more tame things that some members of the leadership had gotten up to.

10:19 I guess that ren faire doesn't do peace bonding? Or that guy just slipped through the cracks. (Peace bonding: tying a sword with a zip tie in a way that it can't be drawn. Ensures patrons can't use their weapons against other people.)
I think the comment said he bought it at the fair and the stabbing happened in the parking lot. Peace tying is usually done inside the fair only. I used to work front gate several years ago, and currently work at a fair now in Northern California. Besides, when you buy a weapon at fair, it may not be sold peace tied or you may not have the things to peace tie it or even put it on a belt. He might have just been carrying it around.

Ah yes, is it curious that we must peace tie our items for the possibility of someone else trying to take them? I agree though my crew Captain explained that though he trusts me that he does not trust children or eveb adults to not do something stupid and I respect that.
I've worked fair for 25 years, and most of these are pretty tame compared to what I've seen.

There were 4 people in full furries outfits. Not kinky ones, but ex: blue fox and a black wold, blue and purple...sphynx? And a green (can't remember) at the Arizona renfair. Parents and kids all took pictures of them, kids thought they were part of the show. They were not but they were awesome none the less, posing and all and the parents were laughing about it but shook hands with them after each person got pics.
I always go with my elementary friend and his family, past few years. There is a tournament with a knight from France, England, Spain, and Scotland. We always end up in the Scottish bleachers. France's cheering was ok, Spain's was loud, England's was pretty intense, but Scotland, we screamed our lungs off. A lot of times we would boo loudly at the other "countries". Once, half of us were standing, and the other half (myself included) were near the poles separating us from the fight, cheering our hearts out for the Scottish guy. If he fell, we yelled for him to stand up. When he knocked over someone, we cheered. There wasn't a moment we weren't cheering except when the Queen was introducing the countries, or giving another speech. Great times.

As someone who works at the Ren Faire with Clan MacColin and personally knows the Clan well, the sheep thing is utter bullshit that was made up as a joke.
A friend told me of a guy who would have a Star Trek Star Fleet badge under a lapel, and would go up to patrons not in costume, reveal it then pretend to accuse them of breaking the "Prime Directive" (for those unfamiliar, it's a policy on not interfering with pre-space faring planets.)
The Amazon sounds like a good time to me.
I work a ren faire and I think the only bad experiences I've had are from creepy older men who think that us females aren't real people. Can't count the number of times I've been catcalled while doing regular stuff. Gross. It was particularly bad my first year when some 50 something dude kept telling me to come by him and stuff, as I was literally a 17 yo minor. Thankfully, I work in an arena so gross men can't get close enough to grope me. That would be a whole other issue.
Just so you all know, SCA is NOT Renfaire plus it is 2000% more accurate to the Middle Ages then Renfaire is. Renfaire is more fantasy oreinted. Having said that, the hardcore Medieval types generally orient towards "blunt edge fighting" which is super popular in Europe.
I was at the Northern California Renaissance Faire in Gilroy yesterday. The most hilarious thing I saw yesterday was the Dirty Laundry show. My dad was wearing a tie-dye shirt (as he does to most of these events) and before the show he left to get some water for the three of us. The washer women were coming back to the stage and told him “this is why you separate your colors”. They later called him magical when it came time to select volunteers. Speaking of the volunteers, the group was really into it this year! No, my dad wasn’t one of the volunteers but we spoke with the washer women afterward and they said they were considering it when he raised his hand on mom’s prompt.
For a lot of furries it’s more of an expression of art/character. I haven’t been to one of these fairs before but there’s a lot of cool unicorn and dragon suits with a realistic appearance that will attend. It would be a shame to not see that kind of thing when they can be really pretty and cool to look at.
Black Point, Novato, Ca was my introduction to faires. My weirdest experience was being threatened with molestation by three girls for sitting too long in one place. Fun times.
Well I don't have any great stories of colorful things that happened at the fair but I always enjoyed Drench a Wench for obvious reasons. It was called the ......... ...... Shakespeare Company. I can't remember the full name but they did a marvelous hilarious low budget Hamlet where Hamlet's ghost was portrayed by a dirty gym sock on a string hung with a stick. And there was a great character hurling insults at the crowd in another dunking tank

I am a volunteer at ren and this past labor day i saved the life of a drunk woman who was seizing, while other stood around telling me she was drunk, and her husband went to get first aid.

If i was honest, In Slovakia we have lot of RFs per year. And also, i would like to point out this fact, Renaissance fairs in other countries arent "renaissance", because they show usually late medieval fashion/life style and weapons. I know because my parents are usually partaking in Renaissance fairs, and they know a lot of history.
If i had to say the worst experience i had. When i was in Poland, i was partaking in recreation of battle. I was supposed to be cannoner, and i really hated the fact that i had to hold my ears every time when cannon shot. If i had to point out good stuff was that i met a local Chechnyan partaking as a cannon crew member.
As a reenactor, I agree with people that most of these stories are rather tame. But don’t forget the platform.
Secondly, to the person that shared furry on a leash story: your bias is showing! It was actually my autistic teen that got me into furry costume making. It is estimated that as many as 10-12% of furries are non-neurotypical.

I have worked at faires for many years and yes... people really do ask if the camp fire is real fire or not. Full grown adults. It's happening enough times that I have lost my faith in humanity.

Seriously though, it's pretty much a medieval/fantasy festival. There is one in North Carolina that's REALLY awesome that my family and I go to every year. Just look up some pictures of Renaissance fairs and you'll get the picture (no pun intended)
Ok… Not the first comment I notice of people confusing the Middle Ages aka The dark ages and the Renaissance. Usually Renaissance Faires take place during the the reign of her majesty queen Liz #1 that passed on in 1603. These Faires usually happen during the warm months of the year on weekends.
