When we got done I started walking back to my car just to immediately get pulled back right as an 18 wheeler goes flying past me.

I came out of the shower to find that my cats had knocked a lamp onto the couch the bulb was touching it and the couch was starting to smoke if i had stayed in the shower any longer the couch would of been in flames
this is one of the many reasons why i don't want a cat
Also you should have a stern talking to with your couch about the dangers of nicotine. My couch is only six, but if I found him doing that...boy, there’d be hell to pay.

my grandma once put a bunch of papers on an electric stove. (she blames me for it being on despite the fact I never entered the basement the entire time I was there) I did end up putting out the fire with the extinguisher. (the electric stove was toast, so it was thrown out and no we didn't call the fire department cause my grandma was against it and I would rather have dealt with a fire 3x the size then talk to someone on the phone)

Scuba diving around 5 Star wreck off Akrotiri, I went down 40 feet to the edge of the wreck and saw a Stone Fish. As I swam over it, it shot up with fins raised, I screamed underwater, and my mouthpiece dropped onto the fish and knocked it back down to the sand. I swam up slowly, trying not to beat my bubbles of scream up to the surface.

Heard this one third-hand. I work for a company that provides cab service for major railroads around the US. Last month's safety meeting, we heard this story from one of our other terminals. A freight train is entering a yard, doing about 15-20 mph. Vehicle tries to beat the train at a crossing. They slam the air brakes into emergency, but no conceivable way they can stop in time. Any train crew will tell you that, so far, this is depressingly familiar. The first thing that makes this stand out is... this vehicle happens to be a propane tanker. A very full propane tanker. Crew just has time to throw themselves down on the floor of the cab and wait to die in the fireball. But the tanker gets just far enough across that the engine only hits the rear edge of the chassis and misses the actual tank.Spins the truck ninety degrees, but that's all. A fraction of a second earlier, everyone and everything within a hundred yards is vaporized. But wait! There's more!
The second thing that makes this stand out is... wait for it... one of the things within a hundred yards happened to be an extremely large gasoline storage tank. On the edge of a tank farm. A fucking tank farm. That one tank would have lit the whole farm off like a nuke, and a chunk of a large city would have been burned to the ground. As of writing the train crew are off work and receiving counseling for a near-death experience. Near-disaster on so many levels...
I was flying home from vacation in Florida. I fly all the time and am never nervous about being on planes. But this time, something felt off. I was anxious, sweating, clenching my jaw and fists. I kept looking at the people around me and thinking “everyone is going to get sucked out of the plane”. I told myself to get that thought out of my head, but it persisted. The plane began to take off. As it went faster and faster down the runway, my grip on the armrests grew tighter. At the moment when the plane was about to lift off the ground, it came to a screeching halt. I had never been so relieved in my life. Shortly after, the pilot said that they stopped because one of the doors wasn’t closed all the way. My hunch was right. I was so close to death, and at the very last second, the plane stopped.
Was a 9 year old playing with my friend who's 3 years younger in her bedroom which is shared with her brother who was 12 or 13. Her brother and brother's friend were there and I accidentally stepped on her leg, hurting her and I cried over it. Her Brother's Friend said something like "You think that hurts? This would hurt more" and I look away, when I look back he has *picked up a gun, points it at me and pulls the trigger* as I'm trying to get out of the room. I'm pretty sure it was pointed at my head or chest but I was panicking a bit.

I was once using the bathroom and the door actually broke and started to fall. Suprisingly, instead of falling on me it just swade to the side

Horrific
One day I was driving my 23 year old car on the highway when the brakes went out and to top it off my turbo leaked oil and since it was a diesel the engine was acelarating on his own. I reached 230 kmh or 140ish mph and I tought I was done when suddenly 4 cop cars were right behind me and I turned on the hazard lights and waved my arms in distress. One of the cops overtakes me and told me on is PA to shift to neutral. The cop then slows just enough for my car to gently touch his and then slowly stops my car. I didn't get charged for criminal speeding because of the smoke my car did while consuming engine oil as fuel and one of the cops imediately figured out my car was broken. I still have that car and I repaired it. Lesson here: If you buy a turbo diesel car do not forget to service the turbo because if oil leaks there the engine will rev on his own and even if you switch the ignition off the car will rev still.
PS. The engine and transmission and the brake master cylinder had to be replaced wich cost me about 2 times the cars value but I have sentimental value for that car since I was born in it and the other thing I love about that car was in 23 years it was the first time the car has had any malfunction

@@Jake-gz6pw when a turbo diesel starts to leak oil into the cylinders even if you switch the ignition off the engine will not. Its called runaway diesels

@@Jake-gz6pw Diesel engines don't have spark plugs, instead relying on sheer force of compression to detonate the fuel/air mixture. If oil begins to leak into the cylinder, as in this case, a diesel can 'runaway' on its own oil, revving to its mechanical limits uncontrollably unless it is starved of literally all air.

About a year ago, I moved into my first apartment. I had recently bought a dryer for $50 from a friend at work. I wasn't sure if the prongs on the plug fit the outlet, so I was going to just line it up and make sure it'd fit. I didn't intend on making contact with the outlet, but I did by mistake. Suddenly, a sound not dissimilar to a gunshot goes off, and a flash of light quickly flickers in my face. All of the power goes out as quickly as the gunshot sound.
Me: o.o
I call the apartments maintenance guy, and he fixes it. After he asks how it happened and I've explained, he tells me that I'm lucky to be alive. Turns out if I had held on to that cord in the wrong place, that electricity would've ran through my body and killed me. Or if it didn't kill me, it would've at least caused my heart to beat irregularly and my organs to fail, killing me over a longer period of time.
So yeah, Darwinism almost took me to work that day.

More than a couple years ago, I went in for a routine medical checkup and they found that I had high blood pressure. They did some tests and they all went back normal. I went in for an ultrasound on my kidneys since they thought it was maybe something in my kidneys that was causing the high blood pressure. Well, the kidneys looked normal... but they found something else on accident that was wrong. It was a whopping 9in long tumor on my liver. It was a hepatocellular adenoma, which is a rare benign tumor that grew because of the birth control pills I was taking for several years. Since it was so big, it could rupture at anytime and cause internal bleeding. So I stopped taking the birth control pills and my tumor started to shrink, and I stopped taking Adderall which was what may have cause my blood pressure to go up. In all, if I didn’t have high blood pressure at the check up, my tumor would have been undetected, I would have still been taking the birth control and it would have kept growing until it ruptured and I would have bled to death.
I was at a waterpark when I was a kid. The wave pool was my favorite. Every so often you would hear a beep and there would be a larger than average wave.
My mom told me we were getting ready to leave and i asked if we could stay for 1 more large wave and she agreed. I was so determined to get as deep into the water as i could in preparation for it.
When it hit i remember jumping with the wave but it just crashed into me.
I i dont remember anything after until my sister pulled me up from the water by my hair. She just glared at me and snapped "Mom says its time to go!"
I was still in a haze and didnt realize what had nearly happened, so i just got ready and left.
i had a similar experience when i went to the part where the waves would hit the biggest. i was eight at the time. it was a crowded waterpark in korea and i was the only child amongst adults so i was buried under people and underwater... i thought to myself this was it. thankfully someone pulled me by my hair and live to tell the tale so to say
had a 91 Blazer back in 07 heading to work, on the entrance loop to the interstate, halfway through the turn it stops turning and darts straight out onto the interstate in front of an 18 wheeler, I still had wheel turned to the right like I was getting on the interstate but the truck refused, 18 wheeler barely missed me. Once I got it turned in the correction direction on the interstate the truck remained fine to and from work. Several months later pulling out of a Blockbuster lot, yeah they were still around, I turn to pull up to the the traffic light and my whole steering column snapped and complete spun around, luckily I was only doing like 5 MPH and was able to stop easily.

Driving on the highway there was a car crash up a hill on the service road, I avoided a light poll that almost fell on my car, a split second later a car hit the back of my car and my van did a 180, no one else hit me somehow, car only received minor cosmetic damage
That fibreglass testing lab has to either be in a poorly regulated country or violated health and safety guidelines. All the labs I have worked in have had far, far stricter containment guidelines with special storage for flammables and explosives.
I could seriously write a book of all the times this kind of thing has happened to me.
The Death Valley story : People you need to bring supplies, a day extra gas!
I never understand how people are dumb enough to have a vehicle that can easily be refueled when travelling and yet don't bring fuel along. (I remember considering this as one of the big benefits of gas powered cars when comparing them to electric) I never am more then a gallon of fuel away from a gas station but that doesn't change the fact I have a 3 gallon tank for spare gas for if I am going on a trip. (I leave it empty and honestly have yet to use it once cause work never gives me time to travel that far away for vacation)
Once was on the lawn tractor with the blades off, trying to pull another tractor that was seized. You might guess the rest: the tractor I was on was RWD so when the load behind didn't move, the tractor I was on started to flip over. I fell backwards, realized what was happening and moved out of the way before the tractor could fall on me.
So, we were heading to Florida to visit family. We're on one of the Interstates, I believe, and it had been raining for quite a while. So the roads were nice and slippery. We're chugging along when traffic slowed down, but the rest of the road didn't get the memo. So, we've got cars coming at us and not enough road for them to stop in time. My father proceeds to whip my mom's Kia Sorento to the left, putting us next to the cars in front of us with about six inches from the door and the guard rail. I had to stick my head out and look down to see it.
We literally avoided the thumbnail lol. So we went skiing and for some reason our batteries stopped(my mom couldn’t steer the car any more), it was a bmw btw. not some shitty old car, and we would‘ve died if we hadn‘t crashed into this other car.

That guy talking about fixing the brakes is lucky they were drum brakes and not disc. Cuz as long as you can get the lugs off the car you can pretty much rebuild the whole drum assembly by hand with the parts (tools make it much easier, though).

Not a life-or-death situation, but it kinda scared me nonetheless. I was driving on a portion of a highway where there was a traffic light (terrible set-up, I know). We were in the middle of winter so the road was pretty icy. As I near the traffic light, I see it turn yellow. At the speed I'm at, I figure that if I hit the gas I might just make it... then suddenly realise I won't and will clearly burn the red light. Road is icy, if I brake it might be even worse; I could very well not stop in time and crash in a car coming the other way. Frigg it I'll pass the red. As soon as I do, I see a police car coming the other way. Not only was I burning a red light but I was clearly above the speed limit. "Allright I'm f*cked" I thought, and I gently brake well below the speed limit. The police car catches up to me... passes me and continues its merry way. No police lights or anything, it just... passed me. Just like that. To this day I still don't understand how that police officer could just pass me without arresting me or something.

One time I fell down the hatch on a Navy ship and I flipped I was gonna hit my neck I knew I was gonna die until plunk I was on the floor and fine except for a broken leg.
Football game going on my sophomore year of HS. I’m standing on the sideline, waiting for a chance to play, haven’t been put in at all so far and it was at least half way through 3rd quarter, our starting QB (6ft and 210 lbs) scrambles on a pass play and runs outta bounds, would’ve been straight into and over me (5ft 8in, 135 lbs) if I didn’t side step literally as he took his first step over the sideline. Saved myself from a pretty embarrassing and painful collision there! The remainder of the night got a lot more exciting after that! Adrenaline pumping even though I didn’t play lol
I grew up in Nowhere, Texas. Being young and stupid, a friend and I were almost struck and killed by the passing train.
Doing a historic trail. In a seen where i was playing a native American warrior. Reenacting a colonial solder raid on the village. One of the soldier came around a bend in the trail and shoots a musket at me. We had done this 25 times that week. It was supposed to be only powder and no ball. I slip in some sand and fall on my ass justcas he shoots and the tree behind me exploded. A 6 inch thich oak sapling turned to tooth picks. He had picked up the wrong musket. The one he was useing in a sharp shooting demonstration earlier. The one with the .75 caliber round lead ball.
I was about to be caught in a fishnet, but I escaped!
When my oldest sister was on her L plates, we were leaving her home town to take her to mine and she was driving and it’s a quite place so people obviously would speed and as we turned a corner a truck was speeding and almost hit us but she managed to keep her cool and swerve to avoid it

Not really related but last cristmas we were at my grandmas watching polar express and the scene where the train is shaking the house? We turned up the volume way to loud and the house shook....a lot my cousin said "this is so realistic
When I was 13 I was climbing a huge tree just for fun but when I was on the top I fell when I was falling my eyes open and said angrily NO! and fell in between to branches that saved me from death.
Firework thrown in my wheelie bin. Went to take the bins out, as soon as I opened to door, F U C K I N G L O U D B A N G!
Luckily, the door shielded me from most of the blast, but it damn near gave me a heart attack. A few more seconds and I'd have wheelie bin shrapnel thrown into me.
When I was much younger, I was cut off by someone on the interstate. I swerved to avoid them and lost control of the car, swerving over all three lanes, up the embankment and rolled twice. In a Ford Pinto. Yeah. Universe laughed at me at that moment.
Almost head on with a semi because another 1(semi) pushed me into the opposite lane.

I was on a bike, a regular bike not a motorbike, now because I have central balance issues (we didn't know that at the time) I sucked at riding bikes, I was trailing behind my family when suddenly I lose control and spin out into the road, I guess the oncoming car could tell I was having trouble or something cause they had slowed down before I spun out and because of that stopped before they ran me over. But yeah, haven't been on a bike since

While it is scary and unpleasent, it is not dangerous at all, to "drop out of the sky". Planes are designed to withstand the forces and can handle much more. Still, I'm shitting my pants every time it happens.

My mom parked the truck in a sloped parking lot of a computer store and left me and my brother there while she quickly went in to grab something. The parking brake failed and we rolled down the slope until we hit another car parked at the bottom. We were scared and crying, but luckily, not hurt.
