Hi Ethan. I'm a happily retired U.P.S. guy (8 yrs.) and would often toss a travel rig in the back of the big brown truck for lunch break (when I got a lunch) explorations. I was a cover driver for the most part, so never quite knew where I'd be on any given day :) Best of the season to you and yours. Cheers!
I do both! I hit the Subway drive thru and order a simple sandwich on a pita with no sauce and eat it on the way to the pond. (No sauce means no mess in the truck)
I love fishing on my lunch hour with the ultralight. (I usually eat lunch on the drive there ). I haven't tried the micro dropshot - I don't do a dropshot much because everywhere I fish has tons of weeds. But now that the weeds are gone...
Light is right for the cold water,I like using a 3 in bps stiko with either a number 4 octopus hook for open bottom or a number 1ewg hook if I'm fishing around cover
Nice - sounds like a good setup! For bass, I love running a Texas rigged drop shot when I fish around brush. In this case, a little size 8 mosquito hook works wonderful for ultralight.
@FishAnything Went out fri/sat and caught my personal best crappies on a 1/80th oz mule jig with a chartreuse donkey tail jr. I also caught tons of 6-8 inch crappie, some big bluegills, warmouths and dink bass. I've been wanting to transition from live bait to jigs and artificials and your videos and products have definitely made it alot easier. So much so, that I didn't use 1 wax worm on both trips. Thanks for all you do my friend. You opened up my mind to the fun of ultralight fishing.
Great video! I try to get out whenever I can. Just fishing somewhere, even if I don't catch anything, is relaxing and healing for me. This video and the comments I read below is why I started my channel. Your channel is one of a few that inspired me to want to share fishing moments with others who can't get out themselves but could access TH-cam! Once again, great content and thank you for sharing!
Ethan: I discovered ultra light over 30 years ago now. I started with a really cheep outfit to try to catch some blue gill and crappie because the bass fishing was soooo slooow. I've been upgrading rods and reels over the years ever since. Just retired in July and the pond I fish the most is horrible! Using ultra light makes it bearable. Thanks for sharing. Have a great Christmas! Blessings!
Been sacrificing my lunch break 2-3 times a week since October to make it to the water! Usually with a Mule Jig or a micro Drop shot! It's the only time I can get the line wet these days.
I work in Washington DC at the US Capitol, and I go over to the Tidal Basin to fish every chance I can. Dirty city water but monster large and smallmouth bass among many other species.
There's a rod that might be cool to do a video take on. Kastking zephyr sfs. You can't get it from kastking directly in the states. But they have allowed Bait finesse empire to sell them. They look and sound cool. Your take would be good being a ultra light specialist.
Super informative and great to watch. I like that you always have links for whatever you use! It makes it super easy and convenient to find exactly the spot to get it from!
I'm going to have to try that micro drop shot that looks like it'd be a good crappy set up. Love catching them yellow perch though probably one of the prettiest fish there is.
Heck yeah man! I have never put it to use on Crappie but I imagine it could be really effective if they are sitting near the bottom. Or if you could vertically jig them with it, that could be excellent.
I hope I can get out and make a few more throughout the cold season. Honestly, with a young'n in daycare, I have been sick way too much haha No matter what, tons more videos to come. Just takes time :)
Great video Ethan. I've got to add that drop shot rig to the ultralight arsenal. I use jigs, float and jigs, ice jigs in open water, tiny crankbaits but haven't tried this. Blessings brother to you and your family for Christmas 🎄.
Those rods are listed as extra light, is that just Dobyns way of saying ultra light? I really want one of them because I have a Dobyns fury 661 lite that I absolutely love as a multi purpose rod.
Yeah I consider it an ultralight. It is definitely a really fast rod (because it has a solid tip) but it still bends over on the right type of fish. I love this rod.
What are your top 5 mule jighead+bait+rig combos? Looking to get started in your gear but I want to start off on the best foot I can! Fishing PA lakes and creeks multispecies w/ a typical UL setup.
Enjoy watching your videos here in Minnesota but sadly all of our 10,000 lakes are frozen. Ha! I get so confused watching you reel with your right hand though, I don't know how people do that.... Spinning Reel I work the pole with my right & reel with my left. Baitcaster the same thing. 🎣
HERE, HERE! I also fish on my lunch break. The move is to pack a sandwich to go, or get some of those gas station taquitos or chicken rollers and eat while you drive to your spot. You know you're a fishing degenerate when you keep a Dock runner and a poncho in your trunk at all times.

What a beauty those perch were! Also, I've been using the scent a lot lately now that the water is cold and it's made a difference in my hook up ratio. When the water gets too cold the fish around here just want to nibble and don't stay on for long, with the scent they seem to stay on just long enough to set the hook. Today I dipped the boot tail of a karma colored Donkey Tail Jr in some Dip-N-Glo chartreuse and got into some slab bluegills!
Nice! Yeah I am definitely a believer in scent, but mostly when the water is sub-50. Anything above that seems like it doesn't really matter much. No matter what though, I don't think it can ever hurt. And the Pro Cure is cheap enough to where it is worthwhile to have a bottle of. It lasts forever.
