With your advice I rigged out an ultralight set up with your direction. I finally got on some fish on a beautiful Sunday evening yesterday. Deep water I was able to catch two nice crappie. But then I got on some bass that were 1.5 to 2.5 pounds on 4lb test Mono with a very small jig. It was so fun. Thank you for introducing me to ultralight.
Thank you for putting out an awesome video. You got me all fired up to go look for some open water right now as I’m laying in bed with a stomach bug. Thank you for cheering me up.
Nice job concealing your Profound Disappointment at not being ice fishing yet. 🙂 Those were some gorgeous fish; I wonder why their colors were so intense. Thanks for sharing this, Ethan, and Happy New Year!
We've certainly had a weird winter in the upper Midwest this season. Glad you got to take advantage of it. Minus a few dinks the Mule jig was on padonk a donk patrol buddy. I'm just as happy catching big gills and sunfish as I am 2 pound bass. Blessings in 2023 Ethan
Thanks Brian - same to you! Yeah, this winter has been insane. I don't love ice fishing so I am not that mad, but I just wish we would have a bit more consistency one way or the other haha
They can be insane in color but yeah more often than not they are a bit diluted in color vs the coloration of a lot of artificials. A good way to emulate that is to take a brightly painted lure and get it in the sun for a long period of time. Sun-fade it and make it a bit more toned down.
Weird water here in Mich since last spring. Normally fish rivers and they have been so low for almost a year until a couple weeks ago. Now that it’s up a bit, I don’t have the time all of a sudden to target steelhead of course…. Good stuff!
I just received a Doybn's for Christmas and boy is that tip super fast. Look forward to trying it beside my BPS Panfish elites later this year. Great pumpkinseeds!
Wow great winter day. Nice seeing you on Debo live. I’ve only been out once in the new year to my river. Flowing crazy fast and I did not catch anything and was committed two only bait on rod and pliers. Yep half hour later lure in tree on other side!! 😀
Yeah the weather's been acting weird lately, The same here in Pennsylvania. One time it's freezing cold, then it's raining, then it's warm then we have 60° weather and back to cold. Anyway that little jig you're using is totally like the coolest and it does have an impact on fish. I tell people all the time the most littlest or tiny baits do have an impact on fish. as long as you know how to work them, you will catch fish. The area is nice and a job well done on catching those fish. Great video too
It don’t get much better than that for January fishing!!! I found scent does help in the wintertime I usually tip the lure with a crappie nibble and it works great!
Great video I’m so glad no ice around here in Illinois so far I just can’t take the cold weather anymore I work out in it but hate the cold . Maybe I should try to wet a line 👍🇺🇸
I’m right here in yer area been trying like crazy to get the hang of winter steel but this gave me a great idea I might have to grab the UL and hit my favorite panfish lakes nice work great vid happy new year!
Another great video sir. I was planning on loading up the ultralight this week since I saw 45 in the forecast, but then life [read: covid] finally caught me after almost 3 years of dodging it. I'm laid up in bed for the next week and will just have to life and fish vicariously though my friends.
awesome video! what box were you using to hold all your pre-rigged mule lures? it sometimes takes me a while to get them rigged up perfectly so if i could do them ahead of time and store them like you have them, that would be awesome!
The minnow especially kicks my butt if I’m trying to rig on the water. Can’t get it straight to save my life if I’m already flustered from breaking off 😫
Sorry to hear that, Sly. Check out the "how to rig the mule minnow" video on the Mule channel. And RJ, that is just a basic fly box from Cabelas that I slapped a Mule sticker on. It works well for pre-rigged Mule stuff. Just make sure not to combine Mule plastics and standard plastisol baits.
You may remember me from the debo live. I'm planning on buying the dobyns Sierra. I was wondering if the rod would be good for hard baits as well? (Mini crank baits and mini poppers) Thank for the videos I've watched the entire pursuit of a ten and have really enjoyed.
It will work for hard baits, but I personally think it is best suited for jig fishing. I would look for something a bit less fast if I was planning to fish mostly hard baits. Something like the Temple Fork. And thanks so much for watching!!
Will 2023 be the year of the dinks or the year of the donks; both coming out strong! I'm curious to how you're going to keep the species velocity going - 730 species in a year is quite the tall order.
Sorry - I have been super busy and not able to keep up with comments as fast as I would like. Yes - you can absolutely use the Donkey Tails for trout. People send pictures often of their success. Follow Mule on IG to see more testimonials.
Went out on the 4th here in NY, it was 60 out. Crappie, blue gill, pumpkinseed and a 3 1/2 pound large mouth. Thank god for the camera on my phone cause everyone thought I was full of it!
Hey! You're not using the Tatula on the Dobyns. I have a 2500LT but I'm using the Daiwa Exceler 1000LT on 2 of my UL rods. Nice reel and half the price of the Tatula. Itchen to go fishin! PS, does Mule Tackle ship to Canada?
was curious if you ever fished with a shimano vanford I have a 3k vanford and it’s incredibly light and butter smooth 6.3 oz for a 3k reel is insane would like to see one on you’re channel and thoughts
@@FishAnything Was thinking about making a ultra light set up cause you’re vids kinda of between the tatula lt or a vanford , the tatula is cheaper found some for like 140 ish but don’t know how it’ll with stand the saltwater you have one what are you’re thoughts
Hey Ethan. I know you like that dobyns rod. But I met one of Gary dobyns old tournament partner and he said that Gary was such a jerk! He told him to stay in the back of the boat and stay out of his way. And he would just trash talk the other competitors the whole day. And wouldn’t let his partner cast past him. Haha I was quite surprised when he said if someone gave him a high end dobyns he’d snap it in half. 😅
Sad to hear that, but I tell you what... When it comes to tournament fishing or just people in general, I try not to draw a conclusion from one-off stories. I have heard lots of bad things about great people. Example - people have talked trash on Ike a lot and say he is rude/not nice in person. I met him and he was incredibly kind and willing to take time out of his day to chat. Moral of the story is we are all human so we may not come off as perfect in every moment. Until someone gives me a personal reason not to support them, I don't sweat it.
Went to Walmart they have ZOOM super salt plus C tail worm 20pk $3.50 I believe they are 4in but it's like a trout worm with ribbon tail super light perfect bfs
I can`t believe you are a fisherman and do not know what a minnow trap is. That is what the galvanized thing partially sticking out of the water is. The person that left it there like that, sure has faith in the trustworthiness of his fellow man. Me, not so much. I live in a crappy neighborhood, in a crappy county.
I tried to go out the same day for a quick trip during the kids nap time. 🦨 Ponds in western Mass had a thin spotty layer of ice on them and the streams I tried were running high and fast from rain so I struggled to get a DTJ and horsefly down in the water
Those pumpkinseed!! 😍😍
Some beauties :)
I just want to thank you for getting me into ultralight fishing. I'm catching fish in heavy fished places that I never could now
Congratulations on coming over to the dark side. It's pretty rewarding
Heck yeah, I love comments like that! Happy to help :)
Great video! Can't wait for spring
You and me both!
Those were some of the most beautiful panfish I’ve ever seen! Big ol’ honkers too.
Not really
Thank you Mel! Fun times :)
That procure is the real deal! 🔥🎣
Honestly it works really good.
Alright! That's a great jig and a great video! Thanks for sharing!
Truly appreciate it :)
Not very far into the video and I’m already jealous! I want open water SO bad!
Hope you get it soon!
Dude! That looked like a 9 incher almost certain. What a beautiful fish man
Just shy! Was a true beauty :)
Glad you had a good day of fishing fun, those fish were hungry, never seen those last ones you caught that had a orange belly! 🎣😎
Pumpkinseed can be some seriously beautiful fish!
What a day u had! Those colors on the pumpkins are indeed beautiful!
Heck yeah, thank you :)
U was burning them fish up awesome 👍👍👍✝️✝️✝️
Doing my best out there!
The pumpkinseed colors were amazing. Thanks for sharing!
They sure were. I love those fish! Thanks for watching :)
Just ordered some last week along with a dobyns rod and shimano nasci 1000 can’t wait to try it all out!
Thank you so much! Can't wait to hear what you get into. We have an identical setup, I just got a Nasci too :)
Got to love those Mule Fishing products! Need to order me some more jig hook soon.
Thank you for the support!
Nice! Tuesday and Wednesday will be near 50 degrees...I need to put a rod in my car.
Hope you snuck out and popped a few :)

That sounds like my kind of party! Keep up the good work, Chris!
I see you found some luck as well! I don't think we'll have long in Michigan until the ice comes back so take advantage of it while you can!
Not sure we will ever get consistent thick ice this winter. Odd season!
Looks like I might be busting out the Mule Fishing goodies on my first creek run of 2023! Beautiful pumpkinseeds!
HECK YEAH! Thanks for the support :)
Just placed my first Mule order today. Can’t wait. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks so much!!
Thank you for putting out an awesome video. You got me all fired up to go look for some open water right now as I’m laying in bed with a stomach bug. Thank you for cheering me up.
Sounds like we're having a crappy day 🤣
Hope that bug is gone by now. The amount of viruses going around this winter is so annoying!
I caught a 16inc rainbow here in PA and some gills the size of my hand 2023 so far so good God bless and please have a great new year my dude
Sounds like 2023 is going to be a good one :)
Nice job concealing your Profound Disappointment at not being ice fishing yet. 🙂 Those were some gorgeous fish; I wonder why their colors were so intense. Thanks for sharing this, Ethan, and Happy New Year!

I very rarely see pumpkin seeds that are as vibrrant as the baits that depict them but wow that little guy was absolutely gorgeous!

@@FishAnything I actually have heard that before from an old head in my local Dunn's Sporting Goods
Just great to see you doing you 🤠. Sorry I am commenting February 23third. Good is good content 😊. Thanks again for everything.
No need to apologize! Thanks for watching, Miguel :)

I just received a Doybn's for Christmas and boy is that tip super fast. Look forward to trying it beside my BPS Panfish elites later this year. Great pumpkinseeds!
Dude this rod is so awesome. Glad you got one as well. You will be spoiled with that setup :)

Thank you Zach!
That was awesome, beautiful fish!
Thank you CZ!

Where were you fishing, that place is awesome, you didn't even move..

Awesome early January bluegills. At this point I’ve got my fingers crossed for a mild winter and early spring!
Yeah I think you will get that. We still don't have ice. I don't think I will ice fish at all this year. Crazy!
I am absolutely amazed! This made my day.
Heck yeah, JP! Thanks for the ongoing support.
What a great fishing session on a cold day!

Biggest Pumpkinseed I've ever seen 😆
Heck yeah! They can get up there in the 10-11" class but that is hard to come by haha
Going out with the fly rod today
Go get them!
Do you think the major craft finetail rod could be used for some trout applications?
Oh absolutely. I think that is what it was designed for primarily.
Will 2023 be the year of the dinks or the year of the donks; both coming out strong! I'm curious to how you're going to keep the species velocity going - 730 species in a year is quite the tall order.
That won't happen haha
But to answer your question, it will be the year of both!
Do you like the spro braid better than the jbraid?
I do. I think it is the best braid I have personally used, although it is pretty pricey.
Is that a lake or an aquarium? They are some nice looking fosh
Haha seriously dude! Thanks :)
does the donkey tails work on trout too?
i guess not?

Temple Fork for versatility!

I do when the water is cold. Pro Cure is the best I’ve found.
It's a good weekend. 2 pflueger 500 presidents for 35$ each. Waiting for more 4# line to come. 60° tomorrow in Feb bank time calling.

Yes Mule ships to Canada! And yeah I swap reels a lot. I love anything shimano or Daiwa
There is a stream of cold air with storms in the west and a warm stream to the east. That’s why it’s warmer than normal in the east.
This science is beyond my IQ and makes my head hurt. All I know is that it is weird!
