Tyler is that friend you have that is really passionate about a certain subject. And if you get them on it, you can sit back and let them talk for hours if they want.
Just ask my wife, I’ll talk for HOURS😂
@@TylersReelFishing When someone is really passionate about a subject, it usually shows when they teach others about it. Thank you for that.
Happy fishing!
@@TylersReelFishingall I can say is thanks for the tips man you’ve made fishing more fun for me than I ever would’ve thought. I won’t lie as if I’ve been watching for years, but everything you say goes straight to the brain. It’s nice to have found someone who can articulate information the way you do. 🤙🏼
No shit!!!
I'm going to give my beginning tackle box to my granddaughter, Zoey. She is 11 and knows how to catch bluegill. She is now eager to learn to catch bass. I'm her 81 yr old grandma and fishing partner! She's so excited and passionate to learn. I hope we win!
That is awesome!
You are so smooth in your delivery and you make it so easy to learn. Thanks for all you do for bass fishing.
The quality of production and explanations of everything are top notch! Some vids are good to watch, but then there's those like this video we watch to actually learn.
I had a really hard time on my river. The learning curve was brutal. I watched one if your videos quite a while back and you said something to the idea that a drop shot wirks when nothing else will. And honestly that broke my curve and I fish the heck out of all three rivers in my town. God bless you sir and i truly feel blessed to have found you.
Let’s go!! Super sick
Bro you from Pittsburgh?
What ya targeting?
Just be careful! Check your local regulations. My state does not allow dropshot in rivers, but allows them in lakes. Never fun to have the DNR coming down on ya with a citation!
Lately, I been using the drop shot in pond fishing with a special hazard you did not mention. Catfish also love the drop shot presentation. In the last 2 weeks I am getting equal parts catfish and bass when using live bluegill (instead of lures) on a drop shot. Another variation is the use a slip bobber to keep the line somewhat vertical in the water column. The bobber gives an extra sensitive "feel" for what is going on. Good video, lots of useful information. 🎣🐟🐟🐟
Dang haha, I had no clue! Now, in reference to your bobber, I will be making a video about that sometime soon
I love using the slip bobber with a dropshot
Tyler is definately in the top 5% of TH-cam anglers/teachers that explain the topic where most anyone can learn from it and become a better angler.
Kudo's to this young man! appreciate
I really appreciate that, thank you!
He's like the micro machine man from the 80's. All the info at once as fast as possible. 😂 But he is definitely enthusiastic about teaching what he has learned over the yrs
I love my job!
Tyler I have to say you have a gift for teaching fishing. Don't give this up, you are doing a fantastic job. 🎣
I appreciate that!
This is as good of a dropshot video as I've seen. Thanks Tyler. 👊
Love the info & passion. Thank you sir!
Great info I started fishing a drip shot about 1 week ago. This will absolutely help me out. Thank you
You sir have given me a big confidence boost and now i am setting up 3 combo's for drop shot and going to give it a whirl later today. As a new bass youtube fisherman your tips help so much. Thank you Tyler.
I love that!
Thanks for the info! Your a good teacher!
Thanks for the info and all the videos! I have been binging your videos and you directly helped me have a great father's day weekend out on the lake with my dad. Keep it coming!
That is awesome! I’ll keep ‘em coming!
that's awesome
Thanks for the advice Tyler you're the man!👍
That's the best drop shot video i've found on youtube. You are going in deep with the techniques and all the beautiful stuff. Thank you for this
I appreciate the kind words!
Two seasons of trying without any success! Then i found your video!! 18 minutes of knowledge later and i got my first bass!! Thank you dude :)
Here is a tip, leave tag end say 6 inch long the attach a tippet ring to it and now you can attach your drop weight on a thinner mono or fluro line… this way you can adjust length of the tag as needed without re- rigging😉 …something I do alot while fly fishing 😉
What is a tippet ring?
@@dankjankings7339 Similar to a split ring but made for tying fly fishing tippet (equivalent to a bass fishing leader) to the end of your line.
Basically OP is saying this will save you having to retie the whole rig when you want to modify it. Also helps ensure just your weight breaks off if yoh get snagged! It’s a clever idea!
Great video! Thank you for the tips!
Yea this dude is a great teacher and shares alot of info other guys won't. Keep it up bro! I've watched several of your videos but just now subscribed because you haven't missed!!
I really appreciate that!
Awesome video. Really enjoyed the info you shared. I’m looking forward to drop shotting for bass.
Go for it! It’s one of the best all year round tactics
This is exactly the video I needed. Thank you Tyler!
Heck yeah!
Nice video and great information as always Tyler! Thanks for taking the time to share and help others become better anglers. You rock my friend! As always, #TylersReelFishing rocks!!!
Thank you so much, David!
You’re videos are so helpful I learned so many things from you
Glad you like them!
@@TylersReelFishing I have a tournament on Sunday so I hope this helps me win
Super helpful video!
Love your videos I’ve learned so much thank you Tyler!
Heck yeah! Glad to hear that
The dropshot is Def on my list for this summers technique checklist to learn .
Get on it son!
Incredible video. So informative. I need to go back and rewatch it because it is a ton of information and I have never fished the drop shot. My brother was in a tournament just recently where the guy he was fishing with was using a drop shot and caught eight fish. That got my attention. As neither of us have done one. Thank you Tyler for a great video.
Thanks for watching!!
What’s sad is I’ve watched for 2 years and I’ve learned so much from this channel that I don’t have to come back anymore 😢 but I seen this in my notifications today and had to drop a comment. I never subbed either until now don’t hate me haha
Honestly, your story is totally fine by me. Someone learning all they need to learn, then continuing the journey on their own. Stop by every once in a while though, I’d start to miss you!
Crazy how some techniques that work in your area work in central illinois. Although the fishing here is actually pretty good contrary to popular belief
New viewer. Excellent video and new technique for me. Gonna try this out tomorrow! Thumbs up & subscribed!
Thank you Jeff! Happy to have ya around!
I switched to the Texas rig style for about 90% of the time. I hook up and land quite a few more fish and you can throw that thing in a lot of nasty places even on 8-10lb line.
Tyler a great video and a lot to lean from you Thanks for great points
Thanks for watching!
Great insight here ! Thanks for a clear and concise breakdown 🤙🏼
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome videos Tyler! Much appreciated and I’m going to try the drop shot rig out here in OR
Great tips and information about the working of the drop shot
Glad you liked them!
Good video. I like that it’s relatively short and non-repetitive.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks 🎣 buddy appreciate you tips 👍
Great information, young man ! Helping this old dog learn new tricks !
Glad to help! Thanks for watching
Very well explained(and demonstrated) basics of dropshotting. Im gonna try out palomar knot some time, will be interesting to compare it in action with the current knots Im using.
Give it a shot!
Really nice, in depth vid here on the Drop shot. Good work!
Glad it was helpful!
Love your videos man thanks for teaching me so much!!
Glad you learn from them!
This was a beautiful video from start to finish. I’m just learning about drop shot and this was perfect. Thank you!!!!
Heck yeah!! Glad it helped you learn
this video should be named "the last instructor you'll ever have to listen to" because what is a good instructor do, answer all your questions, and you did that my friend.
Great video info. Helpful. Good teacher
Glad it was helpful!
Dropshot is a must have especially in hot summer days.I prefer the texas rig style the most. It works and you dont lose as many baits
For sure!
Bravo! This was a killer video. I learned so much. Thank you.
Love to hear that!
Good job! A lot of info thanks.
hey thanks for the video Ive learned a lot from watching your videos, I also fish NTX area not as much this year its just to hot this summer! drop shot is one thing Ive been wanting to learn, Im new this is only my second year fishing so there's a lot of room for improvement! thanks for the good clear explanation without making it sound like we need a $500 combo to go with it!
As usual another great video.. thanks for the tips..God bless ❤
You are so welcome!
Thanks for the video! Exactly what I needed!
Glad it helped!
Good video Tyler. Going to send it to my friend who's just starting out fishing. One addition, has to do with the Palomar knot. After tying the knot, pull the knot "wad" down through the hook eye towards the weight. Now, the wad is under the hook eye and supporting it. This will help keep the hook standing more horizontally and keep the bait more horizontal. ** If you're using a small hook with a small eye and/or a bigger diameter line, this wont work as you wont be able to pull the knot wad through the eye.
Definitely a good point to add! I would have talked about that, but I didn’t have a lens with me that could get close enough to show that
drop shot style works great. It will also work for perch with a smaller set up
This got me excited!!!!
Awesome!!
Its always a better day when tyler posts
It’s always a better video when MysteryOutdoors comments
Great stuff!! Informative and straight forward
Thanks for the comment!

I'm looking to get the rod you mentioned in the description and I'm wondering if the 'Shimano NASCI FC Spinning Reel' would be a good fit for a dropshot/nedrig setup?
But if you really think the 'Lew's Custom Lite Series' worth the 60$ difference I may consider it.. what do you think ?
So much great info here! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
What about rod specs is it medium fast or what ? And kind of reels you use it looks cool
Great video Tyler!
Thank you!
Fantastic video
Great video Tyler.
Thank you!
Great video. Had to watch a few times to absorb everything :) I went out with a local guide a few weeks ago, he had me using dropshot and it KILLED. Your video is giving me confidence to try it on my own. The link you provide for the "threading" hook goes to a VMC Wacky NEKO Weedless hook...doesn't look like the one you show in the video. I assume the threading hook is just the straight-up VMC Wacky NEKO?
Another great video from truly a”Bassmaster”
Thank you sir!
Great video. I like Texas rig style hooks spring, summer, fall. Winter is the only time I’ll go to nose or threading style hooks because most of the vegetation has died off. …. Drop shot for me is my first go to presentation. Drop shot, NED / shakey, and then weightless. I fishing primarily for largemouth in water that has mucky / black mud bottoms. So if my moving baits and a bouncing jig don’t work it’s drop shot next. Because I can TR a 3” paddle tail and slow slow retrieve as a finesse search bait. Reeling a drop shot has become my sneaky search bait.
Great stuff!
Thank you for the advice. I’m going to Cabela’s soon. I’m gonna get me a medium light rod and a drop shot kit.
Heck yeah love it! If you ever decide to do any tackle shopping online instead of at Cabelas, make sure you use the links in my video descriptions
i love your videos and as a begginer they have helped me so much i wanted to ask you what are the best baitcasting rod for under 60 dollars.
I have to say when I first saw your channel I thought "this kid doesn't kno jack".. after hours of watching later I have to say THANKS MAN!!! You have showed me tons and I appreciate the heck out of it!!
Haha I appreciate that! If I don’t know Jack, then my best friend who teaches me everything (Alton Jones Jr.) who is 2nd in world rankings right now, doesn’t know Jack either 😂
@TylersReelFishing wow!! Thanks for the response!! I've just stepped into the bass fishing scene got me a Lil older model ranger and am absolutely loving it!! Wish I would have gotten into.this earlier! Your channel is really helping me tho muchly appreciated
Great video thanks !
Glad you liked it!
Awesome video man.
Thanks Cory!
Awesome videos Tyler! Much appreciated and I’m going to try the drop shot rig out here in OR 18:32
Great job!!!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much man!! I’ve fished my whole life (21 years), but in a sort of, as some would say, “redneck” sort of way 😂 kinda just went out on the lake and threw some crankbaits around as well as some trolling. But now I’m experimenting and learning lots of new ways and finding there’s much more of an art to fishing. Thank you again, I can’t wait to get out there and try my first drop shot!
Give it a shot and let me know how you do!
Great Video. Gig'em class of '92
Gig Em!👍🏼
And about Great Lakes area what is your advice?
May I ask when you fish a spinner the next day with advantaged how do you do it with your hook do you loosen that or do you cut the wire.
Thank you for tip on using a Texas rig set up for the drop shot. I will definitely try it. I will say I caught a 4 and 8 pound largemouth on a drop shop using a Reaction Size 1 drop shot hook. Hook was in the side of mouth.
Over time, you’ll see a major difference with bigger hooks like the 1/0
Great video sir!
Thanks homie!
Awesome video young man
Glad you enjoyed!
Dropshot works well for summer crappie too. Same idea, smaller bait.
Simple and easy to understand, no fancy words or jargon. Love it!
Thanks so much!
Nice Job! Good Stuff.
Thanks for the visit
Great drop shot video
Thank you!
QUESTION: Newby rig for fishing rivers in Florida...What combination would be most recommended?
Thanks (Yes, a lot of information... but good stuff.)
I will also wacky rig a worm on a drop shot and it works great.
When using the Rebarb hook to Texas rig, do you use the light wire or medium wire version?
Lots of folks down here on the Louisiana Miss. gulf coast use this in deep water with soft plastics or live shrimp for speckled trout
For sure!
Very good explanation
Glad you liked it!
Ik I’m late but I just got into drop shots after only targeting striper…and gah dang is it fun! Thanks for the video pimp
Heck yeah!
Hey Tyler, what is your line setup for the dropshot?
1000th like 👍🏽 🎉
I recently got a medium moderate spinning setup I set up for small crank baits/jerk baits and finesse soft plastics, like a 2.5-3.5 inch finesse Swimbait or a Ned rig 👀 not tried a drop shot on it yet 🤔 but it’s pretty bendy so hopefully it works well for it🤞
Should!
@@TylersReelFishing broke my rod
Thank you
You're welcome!
@@TylersReelFishing do you think "drop shot" works in salt water fishing?
this was awesome, do you think you could do a hair jig masterclass!
Like Marabou or chicken?
Mosquito light #2 is my fav hook
good video only thing i really do different is i dont do the braid to flouro deal i use berkley flouroshield...flourocarbon coated copolymer 10lb saves some money and eliminates the extra knot. plus get the benefit of flouro invisibility that works well on your spinning reel. its tough line i fish lake michigan for smallies and it handles nicks and abrasions real well...
While that is a good list of positive positives, you are losing out on some main positives of braid to Flouro. Those being longer casting distance, longer line life, and increase sensitivity. If you learn to tie a good leader knot, you are at no disadvantage
The hook method you show works in a pinch, but i think its worth it to have a dedicated swivel hook combo so the line doesn't twist as much during the day which can mess-up presentation to the fish.
I have fished a drop shot for years. I promise the swivel hook does not really help you that much. If it does, you’re rigging something wrong
@@TylersReelFishing Well, with anything there is more depth to the discussion than just a drive-by comment like I made. I personally use fairly light line for invisibility (where I am water is gin-clear). My experience has been if I use 8-10lb line I better use a swivel hook or my line starts twisting badly after about an hr. I have used thicker line and i'd admit its less of an issue (but still present). I respect your videos and info a lot, but I know i'm not alone in this viewpoint/experience. It all but goes away with a swivel hook.
Any idea abt the light weigh minnows to throw long cast?! Cause I put weight in a line abt 4 to 5 ft long and the minnow gets tangle most of the time in the leader line.
Nice to know this works on bass, I’ve been doing this for a while with bluegill. Use a real worm instead and they can’t leave it alone.
Yeah it’s fantastic for bass
Do you need to go back further in time brother before the cylinders were out for the drop shots we used to use the split shots we didn’t tie it on tour lines and not even just on top. We left and tagging along and then we clipped it where we wanted it, giving extra tagging on the bottom of the split shot.
Thanks for the advice Bro! It's really helpful. BTW are you in sales? Your presentation is super articulated!
I am not, but could have been haha! I’ve been making TH-cam videos for over 10 years so I’ve had quite a bit of practice
