My son and I have been fishing some local ponds around our area. Neither of us know what we are doing so we watch all your videos to get some help! He’s 6 years old. He and I finally found something to bond over. Thanks man! Keep up the great stuff!
The fact that this comment is getting so many likes is just another reason why I absolutely love the folks watching my videos. Talk about a supportive, fun group of anglers who have their values in check. You rock, Rory. I am so so happy to hear that your son and you enjoy watching the videos together. Feel free to DM me on instagram or email me personally. I would be happy to make a short personal fishing video for you and your son as a fun little surprise.
After you posted this video I decided to give this a shot. This is now one of my top confidence setups. My daughters and I have been having really good luck with this setup. Two separate times people have packed up and left because my daughter was out fishing them. Not gonna lie it was a very proud dad moment to have my 9 year old daughter make grown men get jealous of her fishing skills and pack up and leave. Thanks for all of the tips and advice. It has landed me more fish than I can count at this point.
Dude that was hilarious and amazing that you had THREE of them bite a micro drop shot. Thanks for the family-friendly channel too. It was fun watching your catches with my son and not worrying about what you'd say. Cheers!
I'm a Michigan angler, new subscriber, and new to UL (used to be more of an MH bass guy). Love your channel! Thanks for the great content. Just wanted to add that anglers should consult their local regulations fishing drop shot. I know that in MI it is against regulations to have the weight below the bait in many Michigan river systems. Keep the vids coming! Thanks!
It is crazy how many certain bass fishing technique's can be down sized to target the panfish species. I just recently got my first kayak and taking it out to a local lake for the first time. I'm looking to rig it for primarily to target bluegills, crappies and yellow perch here in Jersey. Can't wait to finally get off the bank and target new areas around different lakes.
Growing up, I was always a hardcore bass fisherman. As I have gotten older and more pressed for time, I go more the ultralight route. I personally like to take bass techniques and make them micro. That is a huge part of how Mule Fishing was born.
That very different. I have yet to use any of the horse flies I bought awhile back but ya definitely will this spring. Thank for the examples Ethan. Mike from Canada 🇨🇦
Pike are in spawning mode now. Likely aggressive toward anything moving near their beds. I have experienced the same thing with 4 lb test and small hair jigs in spring. Pike are my favorite fish for catching and eating. I'll be after them on the 29th.
I also like to ultra-light drop-shot fish, but I use the VMC Spin Shot hooks. They have built in tiny swivels top and bottom to prevent or greatly reduce line twist. I tie the terminal end of the line (usually 2 or 4-lb.) to the top swivel, then I pack a fly fishing leader wheel with me and use 12-lb, about 18 inches or so. The reason I use the heavier line is that in cinches up snugly in the drop-shot weight and you don't have to tie a knot. That way if you want to adjust the depth of your weight or change the weight, you don't have to fuss with tying knots every time. I also prefer the round drop-shot weights. They seem to bounce along the bottom better - balls bounce, right?
Awesome points John! I actually prefer the long skinny weights because I fish a lot of grass and they seem to come through better. The ball seems to work better on harder bottoms like rock and pea gravel. I love the idea of those swivel hooks and higher lb test line on the bottom. Thank you!
I've been using some Eurotackle 2" micro finesse B-Vibe swim baits on 1/32 jig heads. Pretty killer. I'm quite impressed with the quality. Very similar to Mule Donkey Tail Jr.'s. Heven't tried their line though. Been fishing 8lb. J-Braid tyo a 4 lb. Spider Wire Mono leader and love it.
@@FishAnything I'd expect nothing less! You did an awesome job on the design of the plastics! ... Having said that, I'd also love to see you do a side by side review of their line vs j-braid. I began using the J-Braid line because of one of your videos. I was nervous about using braid on the Dobyns ultra lite, but your take on J-Braid convinced me to give it a try. I'm now using it in two sizes and plan on replacing all of my other braid with J-Braid when the time comes. My biggest problem (with all line, really, but especially the really light stuff) is the wind! 1/64 oz jigs on 6 lb braid with 2 - 6 lb / 6-24 inch leaders. I've had a cast go 20 ft sideways into trees and bushes. Lost many a lure in the wind! 😟
Just received a few mule jig heads, horse flies, and mule minnows as part of an order from Discount Tackle but looking to get more direct from you as their Mule stock was a little low. Stoked to use some of your gear!
Awesome video as always Ethan i definitely need to try a drop shot rig one day looks fun i caught my first crappie ever this weekend thanks to a lot of your recommendations so thank you for that can’t wait to see the new mule fishing products coming soon aswell❤
Well there's a new early season pike setup. Never crossed my mind lol 😆 🤣. Usually we catch them bass fishing in northern WI..apparently Chug Bugs are their jam when they get bored with Yum Dinger baits. Blessings Ethan, loved it my guy
My most producing bait for pike last year was definitely a micro white drop shot bait haha even had a few eat the weight while bouncing it around and somehow didn't get snapped off
Got some 1/32oz. and 1/16oz cylindrical drop shot weights. Tried the 1/32 in a shallow trout crick. Used a #8 straight shank hook. Used TM's, large waxies and Butterworms as bait. Fished the small pools and C&R about 18 trout. Nothing swallowed the hook, none hooked in the gills. Now 1/32 weight is pretty light. Oh yes 2lb main line with a 2lb flouro leader. I like micro drop shot.
I have to learn how to fillet those… a little payback for the lead I’ve left in the bottom of a lake. I think they’re fun to catch though I’m not targeting them.
Haha yeah I heard Pike taste really good but they are a pain. My cousin told me that pickling them is the best way to do it. Dissolves the pesky bones apparently.
Tomorrow I’m going to be trying out the ultralight dropshot. Would the jackeorm work well on a dropshot? Maybe cut it down a little and give it a cut tail? Like a minnow
Do you think the extra sensitivity from using a tungsten dropshot weight is worth the cost? I have some tungsten ds weights but primarily use lead. I get the lead weights cheap and 1/8 isn’t that big so don’t worry about tungsten that much.
Micah, it is definitely a fair point. I don't think the added sensitivity is super beneficial honestly. Can't hurt, but I doubt you are going to catch a ton more fish because of it. I personally get the tungsten to reduce the weight size and avoid putting lead weights in the water. As many weights as I used to lose, I find that I am starting to reduce that by physically tying the weight to my line as opposed to pinching it.
