I think it made everyone tear up. Especially because it had Uncle Ben in the flesh. The only two other moments that come close are Spectacular Spider-Man when Peter fights the Symbiote in his mindscape and gets saved by Uncle Ben, and Ultimate Spider-Man when they team up with Dr. Strange to fight the demon nightmare who defeats Steven Iron Fist before attempting to torture Peter with his greatest loss. Unfortunately Nightmare's attempt to defeat Spidey through Ben Parker backfired. Instead Uncle Ben gave his nephew a confidence boost, and helped him remember that Nightmares only have power if you let them.

Yeah if anything this is why i think that Spider-Man TAS was the Marvel equivalent to Batman TAS only just subtle instead of blunt like the latter.

It really hits hard when a VA has such a genuine, heart breaking scream. Christopher Barnes definitely has one of those. Every time Peter was screaming like when the Mary Jane clone died, it just hits harder than it should, his performance is THAT good.

The ending to this show was amazing. Him meeting Stan Lee really brings the inner guilt and depression that Peter suffered throughout the series full circle. “For Once I love my life”, was Spider-Man embracing who he was and is something we can all inspire for inner peace and acceptance of who and what we have gone through.

As someone who grew up in the UK. This is my introduction to Spider-Man.
Comics were annoying to collect, you would get 1-4 then none for weeks then 6-8. Every comic book I collected I had gaps.
The cartoons were my real introduction to Spider-man, Batman, xmen, fantastic 4 and iron man. I feel like a lot of kids who grew up in the 90’s might be the same.

I can sorta relate. Not because of regional issues, but age. I LOVED the original Run of the Teen Titans. It was my favorite comic series ever since I received a big creepy trunk of comics from a family friend. The only problem? That original run took place in the 80's, one decade before comic collecting became a fad and all the comics were worthless due to there being so many in circulation. As a result, I could never find any of the books that left me with gaps in knowledge, because I didn't have internet, and my local comic book store employees would look at me like I had a third head when I'd walk in and say: "No thanks, I don't want to read One Piece. Can you point me in the direction of your multi-decade old rare-as-fuck comic books, please? By the way, my budget's ten bucks"

Kingpin is the big bad mostly
Hydro man was turned from a one note two bit thug to a genuine unhinged stalker (this was my favorite change. Hope comics adapt this again)

The show that got me into Spidey growing up, and as we saw made changes in a lot of characters that were so good that the comics and movies adopted them for good. It was also competing with the even more legendary Batman animated series, further cementing its place in history. The crazy meta ending we got was probably better than anything a sixth season could have produced. Easy enough to picture Madame Web just using her powers to reunite the two lost lovers immediately after Spidey's 'long, hard journey'.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series is not only important, but it is quite possibly on my honest opinion a more essential blueprint to writing Spider-Man than even how the comics have turned out to be, it knows that went is reaches boundaries, it halts before it ends up like what has been happening to 616 but doesn't restrict itself to strongly on other ideas either.

Spider Man TAS is indeed, a great show that I am glad I got a VHS of as a kid. Granted, said VHS was lost to time, but I still remember the 4 episodes (Framed, The Man Without Fear, The Ultimate Slayer, and Tombstone) that were on it quite vividly.

This show is a legend for numerous reasons, and the times Chris Barnes memed it up long before memes remains solid as a thing of beauty.
I like Unlimited, it's different and unique with a rocky start, but I think it had the potential to be better than Spectacular.

It’s the same exact thing as the Batman animated series. A lot of the origin stories we know and love came from the cartoons. Like Mr Freeze, Clay Face and introducing Harley Quinn.

Season 5 was kind of a mess tbh but a happy ending all in all. I hear they are doing an X-Men reboot so Spidey needs one too. We need to see him find his Mary Jane.
Also what happened to Venom and Carnage? We need more Venom and Carnage as they are without a doubt Spider-Mans greatest foes.
Nice review good job 👏 👍

Well I existed in the 90s. And this has always been MY Spidey. He's buff, he's an adult with a deep voice, he's a bit of a brawler with an irritable temper and a humorous wit, and he's not a skinny dandy-pandy "I'm feeling so much right now" sensitive flower which invariably he has been shown to be in the last decade and a half.

This was hilarious. But, tbf, Spidey in this show also had feelings and had to feel stuff. He was always in reflective thought. But yeah, I get you, it's different though.

I don't know what show you were watching but 90s Spider-Man was one of the most sensitive and emotional versions of the character outside of the comics.

@@teddybeer6206 yes he was, but he was manly as fukk while current Spidey is a flowerchild. 90s Spidey had agency, he went around and he pursued fulfillment in a classically male sense, and accepted consequences even if they weren't of his liking, while modern Spidey is a victim.

Modern Spidey a victim? Spectacular Spider-Man wasn't a victim. He did all he could to fix his mistakes and took accountability for his actions.
90s Spidey whined a whole lot too.
      Another extreme nostalgic.

@@teddybeer6206wrong 90s spider-man was by far. Better. More manly, adults took accountability, wanted to have a life but understood deep down he couldn’t. Even the emotional stuff he did was realistic. Many people doubt themselves with there gifts and responsibilities, and at times need reassurance. Where as your version of spider is some nut lame ass prankster who is borderline a child.

Honestly, as a kid when this aired, i thought Spider-man and madam web going to find Mary Jane was actually the LEGIT series finale. I remember saying to my friends "they probably ran out of ideas, or just wanted to end it on a high note" Obviously I was wrong, but much like Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, even though both shows were cancelled, they had final episodes that did feel like series finales.

This show was my introduction to Spider-Man and I will never get tired of it. Yeah shows like Spectacular Spider-Man did some things better than this show did, but this introduced so many different characters and villains from the comics that had never been seen before and told a great story. We didn't need to see his origin told or his high school era, he came fully formed but we still have a progression of the character to adulthood. Which is something that the comics are incapable of doing ever since one more day. When I read the comics, I always hear Christopher Barnes voice as Spider-Man.

Excellent work on this review. I don’t agree with your evaluation of every story arc but I can totally tell that we both strongly appreciate this show. It’s a very special piece of my childhood and it is indeed my favorite interpretation of spider-man. It’s got a lot of depth and great character development. You’re also right about many cool characters and your voice actor tributes are great too. Very good job. I’m so glad I watched this video today and I’m looking forward to seeing plenty more marvel cartoon reviews from you. On a side note I am one of the few people who actually likes the forgotten warriors arc. Maybe it’s just me but for me this story is a hidden treasure.

I was 16 when this series came out on television and i can remember the first day it was on on November 19, 1994, watching every episode and all seasons of the series is what made me love spider-man and watched every series since but this one is special to me like Batman TAS and Superman TAS will be. The actors, animation, stories are still the best unlike today with cheap childish garbage animation. My favorite episodes still are the spot, Carnage, Hydro-man, The Prowler, X-men, Blade, Daredevil episode, Secret Wars, final episode and many others. They could do a 5th season today for netflix or something like X-Men 97 that will be coming out and bring back Christopher D Barnes. This series still gets a big 👍👍👍👍.
