It's pretty depressing that Marvel's decision to not cast anyone else as T'challa as a way of honoring Boseman's legacy is in truth doing the opposite by allowing the character he defined to fade from prominence. Even the comics can't escape it.

This should be a joke in the X-books like clones in Spider-Man and Ironman's alcoholism.

I have more interest in Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes continuing than Spider-Man, because there’s still so much more they shoulda done with that series
Marvel prohibiting the appearance of Tchalla outside of the MCU is honestly disrespectful and not what the legacy of Chadwick Boseman should be- obviously I understand the character passing away in the MCU but outside of that he should be allowed to continue, I doubt Boseman would’ve wanted the character as a whole to die with him
I like to think that X-men 97 used the father T'Chaka cause its a 90s timeline and having T'Chaka as Black Panther with the the Dora Milaje (invented by MCU) helps mesh with the lore most viewers are familiar with. I personally watched the 90s X-Men and Fantastic Four cartoons decades ago as a kid, but I honesty forgot that T'Chaka was killed by Claw in Fantastic Four. Also emphasis on how T'Chaka was killed in Fantastic Four cartoon not the X-men show continuity itself. Factors like that should give the X-men 97 showrunners more slack to adapt details for modern audiences IMHO.
You need to accept that the opportunity to shift to a strong black QUEEN of wakanda being a marvel main stay is far more important than tchalla’s legacy
Wasn't T'challa supposed to be Black Panther at this point. His father was murdered by The Klaw, and even challenge the Fantastic Four of his training ep "Prey of the Black Panther".
Mutants did overthrow the old Genosha government so the new Genosha would be treated as a new country. Also X-Men 97 episodes are much longer than than the original show. So the 10 episodes is more like the equivalent of 15 episodes of the original show in terms of run time.
I specifically think that Tchalla was not allowed to be in Xmen 97 because it's SPECIFICALLY a Marvel Studios affiliated production still. The showrunner was bound to NDA to not talk about it either.
I don't understand on how removing or not including Tchalla as the Black Panther is them paying respect to Chadwick Bosamen. I kinda find it to be disrespectful to him by not having the character he played not appearing in anything after he died.
@damienlarson4145 likely a legal safeguard to prevent *any* potential misuse of the character that would possibly make people uncomfortable (Ala Thor being 99 percent goofy in Love and Thunder)
Kinda fucked up if Marvel actually has a clause preventing T'challa from appearing in any media (outside of the comics), it's really disrespectful to the character and his fans.
I've never watched the original series and I can say that X-Man 97 works well as an entry point and as its own story, with the context of what came before being welcome but not required.
12:36 What has Keith David not done?!?! My goodness, every time I learn of a new role of his, my pride for his performance as the Arbiter increases tenfold
Don't expect the second season to go unaltered. I'm pretty sure Beau was fired because he didn't make changes he was supposed to. He defied directives. This is why he got fired shortly before release. Disney hasn't released something as sincere as Xmen 97 for a reason. It's not because they can't.
@@PopCasts-ky2cb Bruh, he probably got fired for toning it DOWN... Disney hasn't released a product this sincere in years for a reason. He rocked the boat, and went against the mouse. The woke is going to get turned way up in S2, not down.
Another awesome video. Just want to mention that the story board artist of this show has stated that the animation is NOT 3D. A majority of the show is hand drawn animation. It just looks 3D cell shaded because of the lack of frames and the VHS transfer filter placed over it. The animators did this deliberately to make it look like it was made in the 90s and stay in line with the original series. Its very much a classical 2D animated series with occasional 3D elements. Also another fun fact. The director and storyboard artist of the original intro Larry Houston was also the storyboard artist for the new sequences in X-Men 97's intro. So anytime you see new sequences and character titles such as Magneto, Morph, Bishop, and Nightcrawler its Larry doing them :D
I think you pointing out that they condensed Inferno while keeping its point & made Cable’s backstory easy to follow and emotionally engaging proves that talented enough writers can make pretty much any idea work.
What I find so fascinating is 2024 is kinda the year of animated superhero shows. We had Invincible Season 2 part 2 and X-Men ‘97 both debut in March, My Adventures with Superman season 2 recently premiered, and then you have Tales of the TMNT, Batman: Caped Crusader, Creature Commandos, Kite-Man: Hell Yeah!, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and Eyes of Wakanda all set to release sometime later this year. Like, this is kinda a lot, but it’s cool to see more attention being given to superheroes in animation.
Yeah I notice is too, frankly it's a breath of fresh air compare to the 2010's who have few super heroes animated show, with none of Marvel one being good (outside the anime), and most of the studio being focus of live action. I hope this is the sign of a more focus on cartoon adaption from all the studio. But something tell me, they will find a way to blow it up.
In the Neutral Spanish dub Cap was voiced by the same VA who voiced him in Super Hero Squad, and also voice James Marsden as Cyclops in the X-Men movies
@@TitularHeroine yeah, while all of the X-Men characters were recasted in that dub, despite the majority of the original VAs being active, some other Marvel characters were voiced by VAs who dubbed then in previous occasions, like Zemo who is voiced by the same VA from Earth Mightiest Heroes (and who also voices Loki in the MCU) and T'Chaka by the VA who voiced Chadwick as T'Challa
7:48: That's a major misconception about X-Men 97's animation. The show is primarily a 2D animated series, done by Studio Mir and Tiger Animation. Animation Supervisor Jeremy Polgar admits that Episode 1-3 had some 3DCG models and layouts to work from, but this stopped after 3.
The original TAS was impressive for how mature it could be with all the restrictions placed on it as was customary for network television aimed at younger audiences at that time that weren't Batman, but the fifth episode here with Genosha really puts into perspective what this show can achieve when the gloves are completely off. I'm in awe that this revival turned out as incredibly as it did. A textbook example of how to bring back a show and have it feel like it aged up with its audience
I dont know if I can truly put into words how much I adore this phenomenal series. As a long-time X-Men fan and fan of the original series, even though I wasn't born when the show was around, HOLY S*** , THIS SERIES IS EXCEPTIONAL (pun intended). Now this is how you do a tv show revival successfully! No joke, this series is so masterfully well written, with absolutely phenomenal animation and truly compelling characters and complex, deep, dark themes that genuinely make you question the inherent societal bigotry and how to process internal thoughts of fighting for equality and how to do so in a way to help society grow from the status quo of discrimination and to do more than allow yourself to become numb to a neverending struggle that you feel like isn't your responsibility. Truthfully, this series is some of the *BEST MARVEL MEDIA WE'VE EVER SEEN SINCE ENDGAME* (except No Way Home, GOTG3 and Loki)! Compared to how phenomenal this series was, Fox movies seem like amateur student films with such a bare-bones understanding of how truly incredible and insane the X-Men stories can be when you truly hire people who care about these amazing characters. After watching this show and its epic finale, Bastion became one of my favourite X-Men/Marvel villains. Theo James especially gave a superb performance as Bastion; now, whenever I read a comic featuring Bastion, I'll hear his voice. Not only him but the entire voice cast, especially for Cyclops, Magneto, Storm, Jean, Charles, Gambit, Rogue, Jubilee, Wolverine, Morph, and Nightcrawler, all did a tremendous job. This show's take on Cyclops and Magneto especially are pitch perfect and truly did both of them justice by finally putting respect on my man Scott Summers, whereas the movies butchered him everytime, and this take on Magneto is probably one of the most complex and deloped takes on the character I have ever seen. Bro; the number of cameos in this series is insane! Cyclops and Jean saying goodbye to Cable/Nathan had me in tears🥺. 10/10 SEASON 1 I NEED A SEASON 2 NOW!!! Hell I would love to see more Marvel 90's show revivals for other shows like the Iron Man, Hulk and especially Spiderman 90's series since they just gave us Peter reunited with MJ and a lot of us want to know how?
It feels so weird witnessing all these comic storylines interwoven with each other so perfectly compared to what the MCU is doing right now. And with the new stories coming in with Apocalypse, I’ve never been so excited for anything like this since No Way Home
Maybe the issue regarding Genosha is simply recognising the mutant state as the legitimate government. The UN took forever to acknowledge the PRC as China.
Had to binge five episodes and finish the show in order to watch this video (was in the middle of episode 5 when this posted) and man, what a treat this is to follow up such a great show
if spider-man ‘98 or ‘97 or whatever happens eventually, i’d love love love to see an adaptation of the clone saga. ik it kind of happened already but id like to see a version of it happen to the peter we all followed for years, as if its a multiverse constant with a lot of spider-men
I grew up on all 5 of the 90s Marvel cartoons. X-men, Fantastic 4, Spider-Man, IronMan, and Hulk. And even my little brain knew that all these shows take place in the same universe, especially after watching the last few episodes of Spider-Man 94. It really is amazing that they were able to pull an MCU before the MCU was even a thing. Also, I'm blown away when you said they're 3D models. 😮 Not even Spiderverse could pull that off, it still looks CG. I am really impressed.
I just found this channel and subscribed so I could eventually see a timeline video on the cartoon universe. Sounds like a lotta time and work, I can’t wait to see it.
Just to give even more credit to the voice cast, i binged X-Men 92 AND 97 in the span of a few months and i genuinely had no idea they sounded different
I grew up with the x-men cartoon (I'm a 35yo man) and each episode brought me back to what I felt watching that series. I don't watch much TV these days, as it's hard for me to find things I can sit through with my severe ADD, but MY GOD! I can't remember the last time I've been as hyped as I was for each new episode. I still get goosebumps thinking of the "remember it" scene. This has taken the spot as my favorite X-Men story. Wolverine has always been my favorite character, but this show managed to make me fall in love with every single character on screen. God I love this.
I haven't watched it myself since X-Men was never really my thing but I love that this series is using actual veteran voice actors as well as new ones instead of everyone being voiced by a celebrity. Now don't get me wrong, sometimes a celebrity can do a good job, but it's refreshing to not have a cast full of them.
An absolute phenomenal achievement that maintained the spirit of classic x-men and old school non mcu marvel, and i couldn't have been happier with it!
X-Men 97 and Beavis and Butthead do be going up to the less than stelar revivals like Clone High season 2 and going “This is how it’s done!” by being great. While it’s understandable why the showrunner, Beau DeMayo got fired, I do worry for the quality of Season 3 and beyond. Still, I would trust him and the writers to try do a conflict involving the mutants and Inhumans and make it better that what happened in the comics. Would be cool if rather than have Magneto turn evil again, we had the X-Men straight up fight an alternate version of Magneto based off his viler Ultimate universe version. Kinda like how Transformers Cyberverse had Megatron X. Maybe as like the final boss.
>implying Clone High Season 2 isn’t great >implying there haven’t been any other great revivals before the two like Animaniacs, Beavis & Butthead, and Star Wars The Clone Wars
I got to meet Cal Dodd at c2e2, Just an amazing dude, and true veteran of the industry. I also found out that he voiced Slappy the dummy from the original goosebumps when I was there.
I haven't really been watching this show beyond whatever shows up on my twitter feed because of the disney boycott, but god damn does it really feel like a breath of Fresh air to have Marvel Content that has NOTHING TO DO WITH and/or trying to be like the MCU.
It's strange, I was born in 99 but I didn't really watch any of the 2000s marvel shows. I LOVED Spiderman TAS bc I had a bunch of the VHS, and I definitely remember watching Hulk when it aired too. I didn't really get into X-Men at all until I was a teenager.
Kind of wild Cal Dodd is just my definitive Wolverine now. I'm collecting and reading Claremont X-Men now and I just imagine his voice from Wolverine now.
As somebosy born after the year 2000, I absolutely loved and adored this masterpiece of a show even if I didnt watch and grow up with the original show, and honestly, X men 97 makes me want to watch the original show so, uh, im going to go do that now.
Honestly the look of this show is amazing and so unique, the comic shading (especially on magneto’s hero suit) looks spectacular nothing like I’ve seen before…genuinely if they make a new spidey revival I would love if they incorporated the same style
I always get mad at TH-cam when it doesn't put Xavier's videos in the subscriptions box because then people comment something like" Finally you post after 17 years!" not knowing he's posted like 3 other videos in the past month
You’re mention of how the cameos work in this show are something I’ve been thinking about for a while. If every marvel show had like one episode that had another MCU character in it those shows would be so much better
3:16 in the Latin American Spanish version all of the voice cast from the '92 series was recast, which is kind of weird since despite some of them being in their '50s or 60's they're still active, only Logan and Xavier's original VAs passed away a couple of years ago. Scott is voiced by Arturo Mercado Jr., who is well know for being Mickey Mouse's current VA and Woody from Toy Story 3 onwards, but he does a great job, though I wish Cyclop's original VA, Gerardo Reyero, still voiced the character. Though interestingly, Magneto is now voiced by Octavio Rojas, who in the original X-Men '92 voiced Bishop and Xavier is voiced by Salvador Delgado, who used to voice Omega Red in that show as well
I'd like to see an animated Spider-Man series based on the works of JMS and Paul Jenkins, a Deadpool animated series, a Ninja Turtles animated series based on the IDW comics, a Hellboy animated series, a Kick-Ass animated series, and Animated Marvel movies based on various stories from the comics like they used to do.
@GodzillaMendoza While I agree with your list of the Marvel animated shows being within the same universe rather than separating Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Hulk into their own universe. One big issue is the Scarlet Witch in the X Men Animated series vs the Scarlet Witch in Iron Man.
So glad there's discussion of the continuity issue of the Black Panthor. Hopefully these issues along with everything else gets cleaned up before season 2.
I love it when you make small comparisons between 2D & 3D. This makes me feel a little less bias towards hand drawn animation now and less harsh with 3D.
I honestly think this is the best cel-shaded 3D animation has consistently looked. It’s been kinda fascinating watching that evolve over the… decades!?
@@AthanMcNeal Oh, for sure, it’s a combination. I just meant that when it was used, it looked really good in my opinion. At least compared to the average!

I'm really excited to see this timeline breakdown. That's my bread & butter right there... I've been watching the shows recently, since catching up on X-Men for the new series, and trying to connect the dots. So far, I've of course finished X-Men, and then The Fantastic Four, and now I'm slogging through Iron Man before moving onto Spider-Man, Hulk, Silver Surfer, and The Avengers: United They Stand. But because I'm watching them with my kid, and in so far increments between viewings, I know there's details I'm missing and things I'm forgetting as I go along. So, really interested in how you guys tackle it!
Now that you brought it up... would be cool to see you give one of these big retrospective videos for X-men Evolution & Avengers EMH since the precedent for revisiting classic Marvel cartoons is on the table. Maybe it's beating a dead bush, but it would be fun to hear what you have to say about those whenever you're feeling up to it (plus the click through rate would probably be pretty decent since it's caped stuff --- & 98% not Spider-man to further beat the old SM channel allegations)

I want the 90s Hulk show back. The last word on Hulk in animation right now is Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and...that needs fixing, stat.
Marvel prohibiting the appearance of Tchalla outside of the MCU is honestly disrespectful and not what the legacy of Chadwick Boseman should be- obviously I understand the character passing away in the MCU but outside of that he should be allowed to continue, I doubt Boseman would’ve wanted the character as a whole to die with him
That and he existed before he even took the role. Black Panther shouldn’t be exclusive or trade mark to someone who played him.
@@blueonihiro4885The Dora Milaje exist in the cómics, they debut in 1998.
You need to accept that the opportunity to shift to a strong black QUEEN of wakanda being a marvel main stay is far more important than tchalla’s legacy

T'challa not being in especially when he's voiced by Keith David is robbery

Also X-Men 97 episodes are much longer than than the original show. So the 10 episodes is more like the equivalent of 15 episodes of the original show in terms of run time.
I'm like, 47% sure Xavier making that Spider-Man 1994 video somehow pipelined Marvel into making this
I specifically think that Tchalla was not allowed to be in Xmen 97 because it's SPECIFICALLY a Marvel Studios affiliated production still.
The showrunner was bound to NDA to not talk about it either.
I don't understand on how removing or not including Tchalla as the Black Panther is them paying respect to Chadwick Bosamen. I kinda find it to be disrespectful to him by not having the character he played not appearing in anything after he died.

Didn’t they reverse the decision though? That’s what I heard if you look into it.
He is confirmed to have done both seasons before being fired.
Don't expect the second season to go unaltered. I'm pretty sure Beau was fired because he didn't make changes he was supposed to. He defied directives. This is why he got fired shortly before release. Disney hasn't released something as sincere as Xmen 97 for a reason. It's not because they can't.

Being able to watch 97 week to week and talk about it with friends after was the biggest we're so back of the year
I think you pointing out that they condensed Inferno while keeping its point & made Cable’s backstory easy to follow and emotionally engaging proves that talented enough writers can make pretty much any idea work.

The only outlier is Megamind Rules if you want to count it as a superhero show. Btw that show was bad.
Agreed most definitely 100%.

6:47 Cap is voiced by Spectacular Spider-Man/Josh Keaton!

Hopefully Cyclops gets the same amount of respect in the upcoming movies that he got here.
A Marvel animated universe timeline video is coming!
YUSSSSSS!!!!!!

I NEED A SEASON 2 NOW!!!
Hell I would love to see more Marvel 90's show revivals for other shows like the Iron Man, Hulk and especially Spiderman 90's series since they just gave us Peter reunited with MJ and a lot of us want to know how?
Marvel need to get somebody like this guy to be their Dave Filoney, making sure they get all of the references and time lines right!
Gotta say, as someone who didn't watch a whole lot of the OG show, this show was excellent. Really lookimg forward to season 2 whenever that happens
I got a job now, so I will now give you a dollar a month
Rad!
I'm just so happy that this show exists and that Marvel has finally left their "Animation is just for 8 year olds" mentality behind for good.
It feels so weird witnessing all these comic storylines interwoven with each other so perfectly compared to what the MCU is doing right now. And with the new stories coming in with Apocalypse, I’ve never been so excited for anything like this since No Way Home
1. The way the 94 theme blasted in my head when I saw Spidey in EP 8.
2. That MAU timeline series sounds awesome.
The love and care that has gone into this show is so amazing
Maybe the issue regarding Genosha is simply recognising the mutant state as the legitimate government. The UN took forever to acknowledge the PRC as China.
Had to binge five episodes and finish the show in order to watch this video (was in the middle of episode 5 when this posted) and man, what a treat this is to follow up such a great show
I think this is the earliest I’ve seen one of these vids
Marvel should hire you to keep all the series consistent in terms of the point in time.
Your point at the end about them extending a hand to Bastion was spot on.
Nice to have a truly great marvel cartoon again(even if it is a revival), wild to believe we haven't had one of those since earth's mightiest heroes .

Xavier you've been killing it with the uploads lately. Keep up the good work man.
Right? It's been banger after banger recently, it's amazing!
I would absolutely love to see the timeline video.
