He sounds really bored in those and Jameson is barely a character in the show. I’d rather get an imitator with actual energy and if Jameson actually interacted with characters.
Yeah me too they don't even have a reason to be villans in spiderman ps4 they had good reasons vulture got spinal cancer and doc oc made deal with him to create a serum to cure his cancer and rhino whats to be out of his suit and so is scorpion so marvels spiderman needs to have a better reason for villans and make the story better
I get that this show is kind off the edge but it isn't really as bad as ultimate spiderman because of different villain appearances in the show. But even so I still love rewatching spectacular spiderman and I hope they continue the season sometime maybe this year.
The fact that Disney made two Spider-Man shows with multiple seasons just to try and live up to the hype of Spectacular Spider-Man which only had two seasons really speaks volume.
I can’t believe you went the whole review without referencing the fact that instead of just saying the phrase, Uncle Ben gives Peter the formula “Great power is equivalent to great responsibility” on a paper written as “GP = GR”, and that they actually have Doc Ock write it on a white board and treat it like a real equation during the Superior Spider-Man arc
Peter in this show feels like fucking Jimmy Neutron, he has to say everything in scientifical terms and basically cause half the problems in this show. It's not the voice actors fault, he did great for what he was given, it's just the writing bad
Yeah, and what hurts more is that Peter Parker deserves to have his intellectual side shown more, but with this show, they literally fumbled the ball harder than I even thought possible. You want a show where Peter deals with scientific ideas in a way that isn't cringey and terrible? Literally just write Dr. Stone with Peter Parker. Peter Parker (ESPECIALLY Ditko era Peter) has a lot of similarities to Senku anyway, so if it were handled like that, you'd have an original Spidey show that does something different yet takes itself seriously and respects the source material. When Dr. Stone is a better Spidey show than the one labeled "Spider-Man", you know you fucked up lmao
Exactly! This show had so much potential but threw it out the window. Not to mention the weird and cringey diversity. Like why is Electro a little black girl (I'm black btw and think it's weird same with how L from death note was black in the n-film) and Doc Oc is this chubby 19 year old that is SO annoying to listen to.
Not gonna lie I actually really enjoyed ultimate Spider-Man, until I rewatched Spectacular Spider-Man and seen how much of a downgrade it really was. But it was definitely better than this show imo
I grew up with ultimate so like u guys with spectacular or even the other OG shows its got a kind of nostalgic place in my heart. Despite me going back and watching the older shows which tend to be better in a lot of ways especially spectacular Spidey. I can still see why I liked ultimate Spidey mostly due to it existing in the same shared universe as the avengers show. But the new one is absolutely trash.
The biggest turn off for me with this show is the animation it looks so cheap, say what you want about ultimate but at least it looks good, spectacular was both beautifully animated and the storytelling was top notch.
Honestly...They Need to Stop Making the Shows Advertisements for the Movies. As Someone Who Likes To Draw, The designs Are Either Hit or Miss or absolutely Terrible. I wish The Shows Had a More classic Look But Modified a Bit To Look Good. Designs Can Mean A Lot In Any forms. Look At Someone Like Dr. Doom. Someone Who clearly Sees Them Self as Royalty, Can be Deadly Scary when his presents Shown, And doesn't care who he kills And Why. Another Example The Green Goblin. Just a glimpse Can Easily Tell You That this Guy is Psychopathic Maniac, That He Take Pleasure In other People's Suffer, But Can Also Tell he's Somewhat of a Genius. In short: A Character designs Is the biggest part of the Character These designs Don't Do Any Of the Things I Just Said. These Designs Have No character At All. they're Just The Generic Ones You See in The Movies. And If You Think I'm Being to Hard On The Animators Who made The Designs, Willem dafoe's green goblin Looks Nothing Like The Green Goblin But Still Has A Good Design.
@@alihankerson7766 I agree, but don't capitalize the first letter of words for no reason. It makes it hard to read for some and looks awful. No offense. Also its grammatically incorrect.
12:34 One thing I'm bothered by when it comes to other people getting spider powers is that they all seem to be as capable as Spider-Man, or at least effective enough far too quickly. Spider-Man isn't just a strong guy that crawls on walls and has a danger sense. He's a genius that had to make his own webs, his own costume, and through formal means or otherwise learn how to fight and use his abilities effectively to be a hero. Maybe I'm missing context here, but simply being bitten doesn't give you acrobatic skills without any training and practice. Not sure about the comics, but I suppose it works here since Miles is also a smart guy that goes to the same tech school as Peter. However, with that said it makes him feel more redundant and less distinct, especially in a world where Spider-Man is still very much alive. Yeah, he has invisibility and electrical powers that are unique to him, but those feel tacked on considering they go outside of the spider motif. War Machine having a similar suit to Iron Man but with a higher focus on rapid fire bullet artillery makes sense since there's multiple ways to equip and weaponize a flying suit of metal armour. However, I just can't say the same for giving Spider-Man electricity and invisibility powers since they don't fit as well with the rest of the original powerset. Yes, I know Miles is a comic book creation that existed before this show, and I'll admit I'm not too familiar with his initial run, but these are just the general feelings I have on the character and all these different spider people. And the fact that this show shoves all that in so soon makes it feel like a Marvel show with Spider-Man as the lead instead of a Spider-Man show, if that makes sense.
In the 2017 series it's a little more reasonable that the skill gap is closer, I think when the spider island arc happens near the end of season 1 peter has been spider man for around half a year. With miles being kid arachnid for a few months with Peter sharing his still rookie wisdom. With ghost spider and spider girl then learning from spider man and miles as well.
@@captainswagger2838 Doesn't mean the characters aren't any more pointless than they already are. Miles barely does anything, and Gwen and Anya are just terrible as superheroes in the show.
To me the way i would do other people getting spider-powers is show how there are other web warriors around the world and how the spider-god Anansi would pick those who are worthy to have the spider-powes and be linked to the spider-force
I think making a story with 3-4 spider people in the same universe can actually work really well, and it'd sell a lot of merch. HOWEVER It would be pretty hard to do correctly since there's 3-4 characters with the same powers, motives, etc. They could have easily made Peter a leader/mentor to the others, like how peter is to miles in the ps4 game, but instead, they are all equally skilled, which is just lazy and boring. Also the only relatively likeable spider person is Peter only. Anya and Gwen are just stuck up and annoying, and Miles basically NEVER moves out of his "learning phase" and got sidelined so many times. It's honestly easy to make all of these characters their own person, with their own motives, story, emotions, etc, but they don't do that. This show was such a miss when it had the potential to hit so hard. It's baffling.
I don't like ultimate Spiderman, but I can appreciate the fact they went in a new direction to try and keep the spider formula fresh. The 2017 series though, is just atrocious to look at
@@willhicks7027 it had some interesting ideas yeah. I liked how Spiderman interacted with more members of the MCU. That's about it though XD spectacular and 90's are may faves
going on to become a good friend and fighting in the army doesn't have much to do with having an intelligence. Plus, this Flash Thompson is still in high school, and back then he was definitely not a smart guy
I think that the biggest problem with this iteration of Spider-Man is that they throw every other Spider-themed character into the mix way too fast. Especially Miles Morales. When Miles Morales gets spider-powers, it is distinctly stated that Peter has had powers for about 3 months. That’s problematic because Peter is supposed to have way more experience than Miles. Their relationship just works better. I mean, just look at Into the Spiderverse. Or Spider-Man PS4/ Miles Morales. In both instances you have a Miles who is far less experienced than Peter. In my opinion, if Peter is going to be alive at the same time that Miles is Spider-Man, they need to have a Master and Apprentice relationship. This mainly has to do with Peter being a super COMPETENT hero (not perfect, but competent), and Miles looking up to him because of that. In 2017 Spider-Man, nobody respects Peter’s Spidey. The only thing that makes him stand out against everyone else, besides the fact that he’s there main character so he’s obligated to be in every episode, is that he was the fist to get spider themed powers. That’s it. Everyone else is smarter than him and almost definitely more qualified. Well. There’s my rant on this show and kinda Spider-Man as a whole. I wonder how many people will get to the bottom of this comment.
I believe the show could have been significantly more captivating if it showed an older Peter Parker, exactly because of your reasons. i think the closest we got to see peter become an adult in the animation media is spider-verse and the 90s cartoon
I grew up with this show, it kind of hurts realizing how bad it is. The good thing of having been a child when I watched this show is that critics and opinions of others weren't my problem, I just watched the screen and be like "Hell yeah it's Spiderman"
@@Waashoe I think you're right, this was the only superhero show I had when I was a kid, so I can't let others destroy my memories Here in Italy it's also pretty uncommon for superhero shows to air, so yeah
@Kevin Green Even at the time it was considered incredibly cheap. They had to stretch such a tight budget incredibly thin to even get episodes made. Not only did they re use a lot of animation but they also used assets from other cartoons to save time and money
@Kevin Green I know, I love the 60s spiderman I said that in response to the people saying 60s Spider-mans animation is bad Yeah sure someone can say 60s spidey is bad but at least it had charm unlike this abonataion lol
I'm not an art expert but my god that shading looked BEAUTIFUL. It reminded me of a 90s anime. The lights and reflections in the air and on the street was just a beautiful sight. Disgusting how Disney is too greedy to throw in chump change to add shading to a cartoon
Ikr. If they actually bother with putting in the effort and time into this series regarding animators, storytellers, and actors. But no, they what to play it safe and marketable.
The worst thing about this show is how inaccurate they got peter , he isn't much of a team player and mostly works alone but here there are too many spider people .
@@ernestinaofori9976 The latest Spider-Man show was made to capitalize on the release of the MCU Spider-Man movie. every scene has excessive dialogue, so much you can't even breathe. The foreground and background are smudges, there's no depth perception or shadows. All the heroes and villains are super smart stereotypical teenagers who get powers or turn evil because that's supposed to happen. They don't offer proper explanations. The heroes are unbearable, obnoxious, stupid despite how intelligent they are supposed be, constantly pointing out how smart they are, unlikable and unrelatable. We know Peter Parker is a genius, but they don't have to remind us by portraying him and the other spider heroes like stereotypical 90s geniuses who are incapable of using simpler nonscientific words or don't grasp the concept of humor, slang or just common sense. The show is a lazy mess from start to finish and the list of reasons why is too long to summarize in a single comment. This one hour video explains why. Watch the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, watch Spectacular Spider-Man, even Ultimate Spider-Man. Anything is far better that the hot garbage lazily titled as Marvel Spider-Man.
Also doesn't help that Peter in this series has been Spider-Man for only a few months. He barely had time to grow and develop as a hero before they started shoving sidekicks onto him in the form of wannabe Spiders.
Yep that’s what butchered both the Ultimate and the 2017 show. I always prefer Spidey to be a lone wolf since he has too much things up his sleeves and he doesn’t want his identity to be revealed since anyone would take advantage of it and hunt down his life.
The 3D environments always took me out of it. The nonexistent shading on the environments felt lacking and make the characters look like they were gliding in their environment rather than actually walking in it. I’m okay with the anime-esque aesthetic but it was pretty janky at times.
I remember the hype around this show but when it finally came out, so many people were disappointed. I wasn't expecting much because it was a Disney Marvel cartoon but I can't lie when I say I was also disappointed. I fell asleep during the first episode.
I thought Disney might've gotten Spiderman right, but I liked Ultimate Spiderman, not as much as Spectacular or 1994, but I liked it, but it doesn't feel like the Spiderman to me, I thought this would be good and yikes, this was garbage
Marvel's Spiderman may not be a good show to all the Spiderman fans out there, but it does show physical and mental barriers being broken by friendship. What I love about this show is even though Harry was cold to Peter in the beginning after finding out he was the "menace" he hated, even after all that, their friendship remained strong, just like in Ultimate Spiderman. The previous Harry Osborns didn't have strong bonds with their Peters like the two new characters mentioned. In the 90's tv show, Harry starts out as a nice kid, but after his father supposedly dies, he literally gets sent to a mental hospital, reliving the trauma over and over again then crashes his best friend's wedding with MJ for nothing short of revenge. In Spectacular Spiderman, Harry was even more cold to Peter when he saw his best friend hanging out with the popular kids, then stealing all his glory, and took a bottle of goblin infused green liquid inside of it. And he kept drinking it, considering the consequences but not abiding by them. Gwen even noticed it happening and tried to stop him, but he pushed her away and did it over again. Keep in mind that it seemed like they had something when the prom happened. Sadly, that didn't work out. Ultimate Spiderman Harry got the brunt of it, but even after bonding with the symbiote, he still stuck by Peter's side. This one definitely hits the nail on the head for the Parker-Osborn friendship as well. Like I explained, Harry and Peter started out as being friends since they were kids, but after Spider Island and the so-called "death" of his father, they broke it off for a while. And yes, Harry did shut Peter out while he tried healing his father, while Peter tried his best to be there for him. But after Hobgoblin Part 2, when Norman orders him to kill Spiderman, their bond strengthens to the point that Harry doesn't even hesitate to throw down the sword and stay by Peter's side. What makes me smile also is that despite Anya and Gwen's irritation with Peter, they eventually come to respect him, while Miles just trusts him immediately. Battle after battle, including Ock's death, these six have shown they are friends until the end. I do hope that in the future, if we do get a new Spiderman show, it shows more friendship moments like this one, and Ultimate does.❤💙 Thank you for listening to my TED TALK about Spider-Man.🕸
You know what, I agree with this. It really is the only good thing that this iteration of Spider-Man has going for it. The rest of the show has its problems (and they are many of them), but the friendship between Peter and Harry is really good.
They tried too hard to make Peter seem nerdy. In the MCU, he mentions wanting to try out for football, but he knows he can't because of his powers. In the Ultimate comics, he was on the basketball team for a short time. In THIS SHOW, Peter thinks "touchdown" is a baseball term, and says "tossing rings" instead of "shooting hoops".
It’s so disappointing that this past decade lacked even a decent Spider-Man animated series. The closest to one would be Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, which is a spiritual successor that shares a lot of crew from Spectacular Spider-Man.
When i did cover and review the marvel action 2021 Spider-man comics i found those a improvement over the marvel spider-man cartoon as the comics had Chrather more likeable they don't inforce gwen miles and the spider team in plus you had doc ock as the principal of Peter school than having Horizon high as a fancy school for smart kids
@@comicbookreviewer4856 Yeah, I read that. I didn't like the first issue too much since it recycled the art a lot, but I could give it a second chance.
Well tbh…marvel didn’t know what the hell they wanted to do, it’s like it was ultimate Spider-Man back to the normal animation, now I can see why marvel tv shows to a break and they need to get their sh!t together.
@@angryjack7963 it wasnt marvels fault, disney was forcing their agenda onto them. Making them drop everything so that their characters had an MCU counterpart infact this is how Spectacular Spiderman and Avengers: EMH got cancelled because disney wanted a cash cow
@@ashender823 they still could have put effort into them. Being MCU aesthetically isn’t the reason it’s bad, because they were still pulling countless characters from the comics to make appearances. Where they F’d up was not putting effort into the storylines and animation
I actually liked Ultimate as it's own iteration because it at least showed consequences and sure wasn't the Comics version. I liked how they added and introduced more of the comic characters to the series it did have problems but that was more of missed opportunities.
I'm honestly just sick and tired of techie genius characters. They are becoming increasingly unrelatable. I much prefer it when Peter is the only person in his peer group who's a nerd, and that he really has to claw and scrape his way towards finding like-minded people who, unfortunately, often become villains who eventually have to fight him without knowing it.
That "change" to Norman and Harry's relationship, isn't a change, it was like that in the og comics, Norman actually treats Harry as a son (unless he's the goblin) and never favored peter, he offered him a job but he still clearly loved his son
Not gonna lie this is honestly the most boring Spider-Man ever, sure Ultimate Spider-Man was kinda bad, but nothing compared to this. Ultimate Spider-Man at its worst is Marvel Spider-Man at its best. There were just so many unnecessary scientific facts, and the fact that everyone just happens to go to a special gifted school or the fact that how Peter goes back in forth from Midtown to Horizon High every time he has money problems. Or the fact that the core 4 characters just suddenly become superheroes.
Ultimate Spiderman wasn't boring, Ultimate Spiderman wasn't constantly painfully unfunny (it had a few bad jokes that I hate but at least most of them land and aren't annoying) Ultimate Spiderman USED SHADING (but not perfectly)
@@shararrahman154 I know, I’m just saying that Ultimate Spider-Man was a decent Spider-Man show compared to all the other ones (1994 and Spectacular) so like a c tier, but it’s legions better then the garbage from 2017, it was unfunny all the time, not one joke landed
What bothered me the most about Ultimate personally was that all of his companions were heros, and I gave credit the new one for not doing that. Until they all turned into spiders. Which I knew would happen based on the characters themselves, but it's still annoying.
There are so many stupid ways they justify the goblin name but this might be my favorite. A wise man once said, "A pile of loose laundry is the hobgoblin of any clean room."
Miles was made to replace a dead peter and should have continued to have his own separate universe with occasional spiderverse team ups etc. The spider verse movie got it right. The fact they brought him into main continuity was a weird choice.
My two favorites are spectacular Spider-Man and kind of the ultimate Spider-Man mainly bc I grew up with both of them. And the only reason I kinda like 2017 spidey was bc, well it’s Spider-Man, and me being a huge Spider-Man fan I watched it.
I believe the show could have been significantly more captivating if it showed an older Peter Parker, around the age of 20 or so, akin to the PS4 game. Personally, this shift would bring a unique perspective as it delves deeper into Peter's struggles and witness his growth as he faces the realities of adulthood. Also would make the "mentor" role he has to the other spider-people ( i don't mind Miles in the same universe as peter, however, the other spider-people work more as clones or spider-verse shenanigans) much more natural and it could be used to explore his character developmente, you know?
AS A MEXICAIN, I ALWAYS HATED THAT IN ALL SHOWS THE LATINO CHARACTER *ALWAYS* HAVE BROWN SKIN, & THIS SHOW WAS SPECIALLY INSULTING WHEN ANYA CORAZON WHEN FROM REDHEAD TO BROWN SKIN JUST 'CAUSE SHE'S LATINA
Ya they all act like mexicans are all brown which is not further from the truth, they are brown, light skinned, red head, blonde hispanos and hispanas all across the board a language, culture, paternal root and maternal root and logos is what usually combines it all together skin colour or racial background hardly matters, but of course disney doesn't understand that like at all.
@@vaderkurt7848 it's almost like they want to pander all that "break stereotypes" while feeding said stereotypes... Oh wait And not only that, is either make their skin brown or make them speak English poorly, like if they were thinking we aren't anything but stupid people that can't even speak English properly, disgusting and insulting
I'm shocked with the dubbing in the scene at 4:20 (lol) You can literally tint Peter's jacket to green and he would be Ben 10 (his dubbing fits perfectly with Ben's voice, even more when he says "Heatblast")
There's a storyline with a character named chat that does it phenomenally, but that's the only case that Peter being on a team has ever worked for me tbh. He works a lot better as an underdog imo
What I hate about this series is sometimes, out of nowhere, you'll hear some guy saying "menace" when Spider-Man either fights with or loses to a bad guy. Urg!!!
The origin clips were pretty nice and entertaining. Quick and to the point at establishing Peter's beginning, while also showing how much of a brainy geek he can be. Then you get to the show proper, and it's just him being a tool that needs to be helped all the time instead of showing his genius and dealing with the consequences of always doing the right thing at his own expense. Really is a shame that Ultimate and this show just seem to have no faith in Peter being able to be a hero on his own, even if it were just for a single season, and then go all hog wild with the other Spiders for toys and "hey look, you like this character, right?"
@@ArcTrooper269 Ok and, that story fits within the context of the overall plot. You cant just randomly have things going on without a purpose, and Flash losing his legs doesnt make him a better character automatically.
that doc ock, rhino, shocker, both vulure desings, electro and sandman desings are all sacrilegious to spiderman lore, the spectacular and 90’s desings were FANTASTIC
46:15 I hated how hypocritical the girls were cause all they did was judge for keeping his identity from them when they did the same thing to him, and also you’re not even giving him a chance to explain himself just to validate their own justification
Aside from the bland animation, lack of shading and sometimes stiff animation...the show was just bad. Even Peter annoys me as he's so quick to point out how incorrect things are to others (because SCIENCE!!!)but will get choked up when he's called out on it.
Thank you! Finally someone covering one of Distink's Marvel shows in its entirety instead of just 1 or 2 episodes. Also, the reason why the animation & design is so flat is because the Marvel animation studio didn't animate this show. Over the last 8 years the studio has been getting lazier & lazier with how they make the animated shows & this is confirmed from a former employee who quit & was interviewed by another youtuber. He also stated that the studio had set-up a pipeline to an animation studio in South Korea, sending half finished storyboards, telling them to figure out the designs on their own & animate it for them.
All spiderman shows before this one had something. 90s one had the classic comic book charm Spectacular had a more emotional run Ultimate was great with its animation and it was more kid friendly but it was fun This one is just...bland.It wants to be MCU Spiderman the cartoon.Spectacular had Raimi nods, but it wasn't Raimi Spiderman the cartoon.
I honestly thought Ultimate was ok. I even like a few of the episodes. Now, it's not as good as some of the others, but it's ok. Marvel's Spider-Man 2017 show however, is just bad. Also, I disagree with this voice actor being a better Spidey voice than Bell. I thought Bell was decent. I think this guy is a decent voice actor, but he doesn't fit Spider-Man imo. I mean, having Yuri Lowenthal and Josh Keaton doesn't help his case, but his delivery on the brain freeze thing was just..ugh. Honestly, I think that scene could have worked if he had said it more jokingly instead of in that matter-of-fact tone. It would've fit Spider-Man. But that's probably more on the director than the actor himself. But his voice actually sounds similar to Bell's Spidey voice. We've been spoiled by Yuri and Josh.
I remember I first watched this back in like 2020 on Disney plus, and this show was a rollercoaster. I was partially interested, but once I finished season 2 I was like “that…that was a mess.”
I like how they got the actors from Cloak and Dagger to voice the characters. But I’m still pissed that the show got cancelled. Cloak and Dagger and the Party of Five reboot were the only shows I’d watched on Freeform but got cancelled. Although I’m currently watching the show Cruel Summer, although that probably the actress Olivia Holt, who played Dagger, is one of the main characters in that show.
In the ultimate marvel universe Peter Parker die and miles became spider man the ultimate comics were a flesh take on spider man that what I love about it but Disney grind it all up and made into something it not with the ultimate spider man show
I'd replace the "kid" part with something else so that the name works into adulthood, and so that Miles doesn't look like a Spider-Man sidekick. Something-arachnid definitely feels like it would be a good name though. And with that said, I wish Miles and the other spider people had completely unique names from the start. There's a reason why no calls Miles Spider-Man, and despite having the names Spider-Woman and Ghost Spider people still call Spider Gwen by the name Spider Gwen.
Also, funny thing about Knull: He is technically part of the show's lore, but just as a bonus video on TH-cam explaining the show's history of the symbiote lore. None of that info is in the show itself.
And it's better off that way. Knull's deserves better than to make his first animated appearance in this poor excuse of a "Spider-Man" show. I prefer him showing in a newly rebooted show, a first ever "Venom" focused cartoon series, or a new continued seasons of Spectacular Spiderman. Assuming if that ever happens in the remaining lifespan of human history.
@@johnathangrey2003 I know. I think it's just the over confidence on the animators like they'd say "animation is so easy now" it's so sad. Even people gave more depth in animation in 40's Tom and Jerry.
38:40. I can honestly answer that during mid-2019 they were rumblings of Marvel Animation coming to a close along with the rest of the television production led by Jeph Loeb since the powers at being on the top decided to fold television with studios together. With Kevin Feige being named the man in charge of all future projects for both film, and television. But in the process, he shut down most of the ongoing productions that Loeb supervised including Spider-man 2017, cutting the episodes down to 12 as they were forced to wrap it up early. Honestly, I shed no tears once figuring that out as of 2021. We have no news of this show's fate, giving the idea that they are moving away from this show altogether with the announcement of Spidey and his amazing friends in Disney Junior. But I would like to add another reason why the show fails on a fundamental level as if you want to know why a lot of the characters are so poorly developed, or even rushed then look no further than how it treats Peter Parker, and it's civilian life. I've never seen a Spider-man show have such a clear contempt against Peter. Whenever it focused on matters outside of the superhero stuff, the show wanted to move away from it as quickly as possible. Or flat out not acknowledge it to go back to the superhero stuff. Nearly every single thing has to be connected to Spider-man. Peter's friendship with Harry? It's connected to Horizon which in turn it's connected to Spidey. His classmates? Spider-man. His focus? Spider-man. The only aspects that are connected to PETER are May, and MJ, but even those are downplayed by Spider-man rather than integrated to serve as a consequence of his double life. This was a problem from the very beginning, and the show did NOT care to fix it. This is yet another show that was ruined by Loeb's lack of care toward the animation medium. I'm hoping Moon girl, and What if serves as a good step for a much better Spider-man animated show. But overall, I really liked your video. I'm hoping more of these come in the future, man!
tbh its less the lack of shading, than how absolutely muddy and low contrast the values are that really bothers me about the art style, a more competent team and director could stick with flats and still make that work too
I don't think Peter Parker in high school works anymore because he's been rebooted and reworked so many times and we keep seeing his origin story with Uncle Ben and all every single time. But does anybody nowadays go into any kind of Spider-man media not knowing his origin story?
I love that you mentioned my favorite animated show, X Men TAS!!! And Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Spectacular Spider Man are awesome as well!
Yeah It's true Marvel's Spiderman is bad why I say that 1.)Gwen-Her characteristics in this show she seems disrespectful and terrible person 2.)Mary Jane-She's only appearing in season 4 3.)Shashan Nguyen, Sally Avril, Glory Grant, Kenneth Kong and other characters from Spectacular Spiderman they are not appearing in this show
Can we please get a live action spider show shot similarly to Daredevils live action show? I feel like a 45 minute show with 20 episodes a season would be the perfect way to tell the story of spiderman. It'd be great if it loosely followed the Ultimate comic storyline or if it just did its own thing and gave us a bunch of great moments from the comics.
@mayotango1317 if they make a show about what seems to be many people's favorite fictional character and they make it like the Flash, I think I'm going to cry
I must correct you on something, the big thing you have a problem with is the art style, not the animation. Art style is how it looks, animation is how it moves, considering this is on an actual tv network, the animation is good, that’s why you like the fight scenes
I love Spectacular Spider-Man. When you first see the character design you won't like it very much, but it grows on you. But, they actually put the budget on character design low on purpose, so they could put most of the funding into animation.
"Hey, my name is Peter Parker. I go to Midtown High, except the principal is Phil Colson, and it's secretly linked to a high tech SHIELD facility within the premises. And when I'm not there, I'm training in the Triskelion with my superhero peers." "Hey, my name is Peter Parker. I go to Midtown High, except when I'm not. Except when I'm going to a school for Gifted Youngsters that only a select few can go to. Money is no issue, and I talk like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory." If you don't see the problem with those two situations from Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man, respectively, you will once you've read enough Spider-Men. Heck, even if you've consumed enough Spider-Man media everywhere.
I don't know. You made both sound like fanfiction plots for Spiderman which isn't Spiderman, but one actually makes more sense than the other given that it takes place in the Marvel Universe. The other sounds like if you just made a fanfiction about Sheldon with no superpowers whatsoever. Ultimate sounds more like Spiderman than Marvel's Spiderman. The main problem people have with both shows is characterization. Ultimate works as an AU Spiderman, while Marvel's Spiderman is Jimmy Neutron but worse because his voice is deeper and the show tries to take itself seriously.
The most frustrating thing for me is that like you said, Spider-Man needs help WAY too many times. Then, weirdly enough, when the big event stuff like Spider Island and the Symbiote Invasion happen, he’s the most important character??? It feels like it should be the other ay around, where in most episodes, Spidey can handle things on his own, but needs assistance with the big stuff. Another nitpick I have is that Spider Island has this stupid excuse as to why Peter and Miles don’t mutate: because they were bitten by… baby experimental spiders??? That doesn’t make any sense! Like, imagine if instead of Norman becoming the Spider King, it was Peter because he was the FIRST spider, and the main conflict was him struggling against Jackal’s control or something; a mental battle rather than a physical one. Then again, considering how… interesting… the spider monster designs are, turning Spider-Man into what is essentially a moldy potato might not look good. God, this show needed better designs…
Seriously, it felt Disney forced Marvel Animation developers wanted to have each series to be like the MCU, which is extremely gosh darn stupid! It really grind my gears to see any Marvel Comics-related cartoon series try to be like the MCU and not being akin to the comics. I really want to see any future Marvel Comics-based cartoon shows to try be more like the comics and instead of trying to be like an poor-man, bootleg version of the MCU! Heck, people are getting tired of having each Marvel cartoons being like discounted version of the MCU, it felt extremely unnecessary and forced. I get it, kids like the MCU movies and people thought it would be a good idea to try make cartoon of their cartoons be like the MCU in some ways, but really aren't and really, really, REALLY shouldn't been. And yeah, i'm sound like one of those people who be like: "I wanna shows like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Spectacular Spider-Man, Iron Man: Armored Adventures and Wolverine and the X-Men returned rather than shows that are bootleg version of the MCU itself!" You know, those tyle of people out there. Just saying, folks. Anyway, there are good Marvel cartoon shows like X-Men' 97 and some others i never watched before... So yeah, i really hope that Marvel really need to realize that it an dumb of try to be like the MCU and should've instead be more akin to the comics.
The problem seems to be that its too bloated......it ain't just your freindly neighborhood Spiderman. It has to be connected to Space Aliens, Super Geniuses and The Avengers etc. It would be better if they kept it small and told a story.
Honestly i really like ultimate spiderman, idk, its cool to me and I like it just found it generally at least entertaining, but if you didnt enjoy it its okay
Honestly this is be one of them best-looking shows out of the time if it just had some good shading it makes the animation look better than it actually is
I liked how ambitious the show was, tackling comic book arcs that haven't appeared anywhere else, specially the Spider Island and the Superior Spider-man saga. They might not have been executed the best, but at least they tried. However, I did not like Peter Parker/Spider-man in this one. He was so annoying. Also, I think this version of Mary Jane was the best. She was cool and chill and much more interesting than usual. Admittedly, she had less screen time than most other Mary Janes, but I think this version was better than the 90s Mary Jane and is on par with the Spectacular Spider-Man MJ. Also, Gwen was just annoying. Just so bad.
I completely agree with you 100%, this show should’ve been better, without cramming everyone or thing in it. The show should’ve have followed Peter from start to finish in College to his entry into the daily bugle, every season should’ve had him growing as a person and a hero, while learning some lesson. The costume should’ve changed somewhat every season as well. We should’ve had cameos from different characters, but not the same usual ones who have movies, X-men, Fantastic Four, Blade, etc, all of which with Great character design and Development. I really wanted to see the whole Vampire saga with Morbius, Blade, Black Cat, then add a twist, and have Deacon Frost/ Dracula behind it all. We should’ve gotten a great Goblin War with both the Hobb and Green Goblin fighting for control of the city. Hopefully they’ll come back with better animated series with better quality. You’re definitely right.
Exactly! It goes to show that Disney isn’t Disney anymore. They used to be the company famous for producing the first animated feature in English and Technicolor. Osamu Tezuka, the godfather of anime, was famously inspired by Disney's animation, and drew comics and later anime in a similar style. Disney hasn’t done a traditionally animated feature since Winnie the Pooh (2011). I miss the days of Adventures of the Gummi Bears, Goof Troop, Quack Pack, Little Mermaid The Series, Aladdin The Series, Hercules The Series, Legend of Tarzan The Series, Lilo & Stitch The Series, Gargoyles, Recess, The Weekenders, House of Mouse, Kim Possible, Filmore!, Dave the Barbarian and American Dragon: Jake Long.

the Ultimate Spiderman's animation and art style suits the show because of it's sometimes goofy aesthetic, and I for some reason enjoyed it and like to this day
3:22 I'm sorry to be that guy but I think we should clear out the misconception of "animation" and "art style". The art style, refers to how it looks, which yes could be fixed with shading. Animation refers to how the characters move, which could not be solved, with shading. Great video though, didnt meant to nitpick
Was honestly expecting to tune out after a few minutes, but I ended up watching the entire vid in one sitting. It's just great to see the amount of passion you have for the series, and it really helps to highlight how disappointing this last series really was. The use of Spidey video game music was also greatly appreciated.
Out of all the Harry Osborns that they could’ve made, they had to make THIS one annoying and hate Spiderman for some reason. Ok, before you try to justify it by saying that he hated Spiderman in the comics and shows, but it’s only because he believed that he killed his dad and Norman jammed into his head the idea of great power comes with great opportunity. Also he spent his whole life trying to please his dad that he would be the Goblin or Hobgoblin to avenge his death and honor his legacy. But he grew out of his own dad’s views and become a better person.

It's not the voice actors fault, he did great for what he was given, it's just the writing bad
Even Dexter had more subtltey.
Redundancy is Miles' biggest flaw. There's just not much of a reason why he exists

I do hope that in the future, if we do get a new Spiderman show, it shows more friendship moments like this one, and Ultimate does.❤💙

Miles was made to replace a dead peter and should have continued to have his own separate universe with occasional spiderverse team ups etc. The spider verse movie got it right.
The fact they brought him into main continuity was a weird choice.
But we get two Spidermen in universe 616 and they a great due, also comic fans can be really mad when there boy gets hate.
How about ps4 though?
Even Ultimate Spiderman got it right.
The Miles in that show comes from an alternate reality and occasionally teams up with the main one.

My two favorites are spectacular Spider-Man and kind of the ultimate Spider-Man mainly bc I grew up with both of them.

I couldn't stomach one episode of the 2017 spidey
I believe the show could have been significantly more captivating if it showed an older Peter Parker, around the age of 20 or so, akin to the PS4 game. Personally, this shift would bring a unique perspective as it delves deeper into Peter's struggles and witness his growth as he faces the realities of adulthood. Also would make the "mentor" role he has to the other spider-people ( i don't mind Miles in the same universe as peter, however, the other spider-people work more as clones or spider-verse shenanigans) much more natural and it could be used to explore his character developmente, you know?
This choice would also "fix" the problem with the spider-island arc and superior spider-man, ykn?
i’ve never seen a show so devoid of love or dedication
AS A MEXICAIN, I ALWAYS HATED THAT IN ALL SHOWS THE LATINO CHARACTER *ALWAYS* HAVE BROWN SKIN, & THIS SHOW WAS SPECIALLY INSULTING WHEN ANYA CORAZON WHEN FROM REDHEAD TO BROWN SKIN JUST 'CAUSE SHE'S LATINA

woah... it really fits!
Yeah this Peter’s design seriously looks like Ben’s from Omniverse, just give him a white hoodie with a bit of green on it and you’ll see what I mean.

Gwen and Anya aren’t friends with Peter, they are merely annoying co worksrs
The idea of a younger Peter getting help from friends with similar intellect actually sounds like something I'd like to see if done right.
There's a storyline with a character named chat that does it phenomenally, but that's the only case that Peter being on a team has ever worked for me tbh. He works a lot better as an underdog imo

What is the song at the start of the video?
I've never wanted to punch peter in his face but that brain freeze joke was too much
The origin clips were pretty nice and entertaining.

Could you link the interview?

When they accused Peter of being the goblin, I really wanted him to take off his mask and say, "Are you so certain, now?"
Thank god I'm not the only one. I might make a video about them one day
I remember I first watched this back in like 2020 on Disney plus, and this show was a rollercoaster.
I think Kid Arachnid works better. Imagine Ultimate doing something right lol
ultimate is better at shading (cause it has shaders), character disighne and apearenses of a lot of different marvel characters
At least ultimate didn’t look like ass
@@flarestorm9417 Just stick with Arachnid, if not that then Black Arachnid
Also, funny thing about Knull: He is technically part of the show's lore, but just as a bonus video on TH-cam explaining the show's history of the symbiote lore. None of that info is in the show itself.
And it's better off that way. Knull's deserves better than to make his first animated appearance in this poor excuse of a "Spider-Man" show. I prefer him showing in a newly rebooted show, a first ever "Venom" focused cartoon series, or a new continued seasons of Spectacular Spiderman. Assuming if that ever happens in the remaining lifespan of human history.
Somehow the Bonus video is actually better than the show it's supposed to promote!!

3.)Shashan Nguyen, Sally Avril, Glory Grant, Kenneth Kong and other characters from Spectacular Spiderman they are not appearing in this show
I kinda like the name “The Arachnid” for Miles’ Spider-Man, if its a universe where Peter doesn’t die so he doesn’t take the mantle of Spider-Man.

@@elcucuy493 Why not? Spider-Man always had romantic subplot.
And when I'm not there, I'm training in the Triskelion with my superhero peers."
"Hey, my name is Peter Parker. I go to Midtown High, except when I'm not. Except when I'm going to a school for Gifted Youngsters that only a select few can go to. Money is no issue, and I talk like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory."
If you don't see the problem with those two situations from Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man, respectively, you will once you've read enough Spider-Men. Heck, even if you've consumed enough Spider-Man media everywhere.
True.
@@billymccrary2246 Agreed, making the series close to the MCU was a stupid move, JUST STICK TO THE COMICS, that's more accurate.

This show just reeks of laziness.
And this is from Disney for god sake!
Agreed.

3:22 I'm sorry to be that guy but I think we should clear out the misconception of "animation" and "art style". The art style, refers to how it looks, which yes could be fixed with shading. Funny because they are both getting a new game later this year.
