The XBOX one 1540 i have keeps showing short to ground on a bunch of capacitors by the top where the ram is and some under the CPU. Would that indicate CPU/RAM shorted or is it possible its something else. I'm very new, so i'm still learning as I go and had that curiosity. I'm testing for short with continuity mode, black lead in common ground and red lead touching caps to see if both pads are grounded. Currently the xbox turns on for like 2 seconds and back off. Thank you!
I am testing the same thing on a regular xbox one motherboard, all the mosfets are apparently okay, but when I test voltage the mosfets are only receiving/outputting 0.2V!
Any clues what the problem might be?
Hi TheCod3r! Big fan of your videos, specially the long ones such as this. From your previous videos (and this one) I first tried the short to ground test on 12v rail, but got something very odd. I get a short bip (about 2 seconds) indicating a short and afterwards the short is gone. I test again and nothing... Then, if I attempt to turn on the console (it requires about four or five attempts) it stays on for about 7 seconds and shuts down again. Testing once more, the "short short" comes back...
Have you ever encontered something like this? Maybe one of your videos I missed?

Hey quick question my xbox one s had a short to ground changed all three mosfets doesn't read short anymore but now turns on then right back off. Before I changed moafets it would do anything at all the fan turns 1/2 a turn or so when I plug it up then it turns a couple turns when I power it on the light comes on the whole xbox powers off what do I check now
You really need an x-clamp tool Or you could use a fork to easily remove the x-clamps. You've injured yourself and may damage something using a scew driver.

I can do this myself as well but I can't seem to find the flask and the alcohol liquid you use. I've pretty much foundost on ebay and amazon but these two, I can't seem to find them. Is any chance that you could tell me their name and where to find them...
What does it mean when the 12v port left side you say in your video is positive and the other (right) side is ground, when I go and test it normally it shows nothing and makes no sound but if i reverse it it makes sound? Same issue where it beeps and the power led shows for maximum 5 secounds then shuts off no spin from the fan

Thanks for the video had 2 xboxes that were frustrating me to know end I have fixed every console that I have worked on that was fixable over 20 only 2 ps4's that I'm still messing with and haven't given up on. Hi, Can somebody help me? I got 3ohm short between Sorce and Drain on all 3 GFXCORE MOSFETS 4C55N. I removed all 4C50 and NCP5901B and there is still 3ohm Short. On CPUCORE everything is OK.
Where would you look next if those 3 mosfets gave you an ok reading?

Hi, it's q little hard to explain in a comment but I would say your first step would be to check the diode mode measurements on the mosfets. Second port of call would be the power management IC. Trying to remove a mosfet. Using flux a temp of 480 degrees, low fan. Yours came off at 23 seconds or so. The one I have won't budge at 60 seconds. Also tried chip- quick. Same result. I know there is a large pad underneath the chip. Any suggestions?
You need more heat. Try heating it from the bottom as well. These are a thick board that sap the heat.

I honestly don't know the value mate unfortunately, I generally use donor boards
Don know if you can help, bud. when I plug in any power brick the xbox shorts up and disables the power brick with a red light. any pointers where else one can troubleshoot the short. when I ground to 12v rail i get a 2 sec beep then it stops for a while.
Hey bud. To be honest the power brick shorting out could be a number of things. Without testing components it's hard to say but I'd say start by testing the mosfets. If they are all ok test the mosfet driver ICs just below the mosfets (small 8 pin QFN IC on the power rails. If those are all fine or may be the NCP4204 power management IC. If you go through my no power videos I have a stack of methods for testing different components and identifying different no power causes. Hope this helps
earned a sub. question got an xbox one original. i can see the 12v rail but i dont know to test it. i checked the mosfets and all showing 0.01 ohms. where would i test 12v rail on the xbox mate?

@@xiMoshyx hey thanks for subbing. Is it the original xbox one you have or the slim? If it's the slim you can check for shorts in continuity mode on either the 12v connector or on the top left pin of the small mosfets and the left side of the resistor above. If it's the original xbox one you can test in continuity mode between ground and one of the coils just after the power brick connector and also on the same small mosfets. You can also check diode mode measurements on the mosfets and with the common lead on the mosfet and hot lead on the resistor expect numbers in the 550 to 680 range, with the leads flipped expect numbers between 1800 and 1950. Diode mode is the same as continuity mode on most multimeters. If you still can't pinpoint a short use a bench power supply and inject 12v at either the connector (slim) or the coils (original) and feel for heat to find the short. A short on mosfets will draw a substantial amount of current and will be easily detected with heat. I have a video coming out tomorrow where I use all those methods to repair an original xbox one console belonging to a paramedic :)

Hey, absolutely. Any component related to power management can be replaced on these as long as you can find the correct components. The only things that can't be replaced would be the APU, disc drive controller and the flash memory

Thank you. This particular repair would've been done with a cheap Chinese hot air station which was the Yihua 853D. These days I use an Atten ST-862D

Hey so I tested the mosfets, the test points, and the 12v rail. Everything is testing fine. I even replaced the PSU. Still no power, not even a light or a twitch in the fan.
It's making a weird electric noise when I plug it in and thats the only anomaly I notice
had the same short same mosfet i replaced it now short is gone but xbox starts and shuts off instantly, fan does not spin up, tried new PSU still same thing, any idea what else could be wrong ?
Hard to say as a beep on beep off can be one of hundreds of things unfortunately. The most common are ram, ram driver, pmic (ncp4205), apu and the disc drive/ hard drive circuits

@@restechrepairs2793 good luck mate. Check the test points just above the southbridge and make sure you have 1.1v, 1.8v, 3.3v and 5v when the psu is connected and plugged in to the wall

Digikey would be your best option. They're based in the US but have 2 day worldwide shipping. The part number for the power regulation mosfets is TPN8R903NL. I buy them in spools of 100 and they work out to around 32cents each 😃

@@melvinpervis6678 some of them won't be fixable but you just need to go through the diagnosis process and try and eliminate the possibilities. Try using the different methods such as injecting power into the board using a bench power supply and then figure out what gets hot. I may do a voltage injection tutorial as soon as I get a job in which requires it :)

Actually the things you said about Indian scammers is a real truth...as an Indian i accept it and I've got same power problem but in different way...my xbox turns on and they blinks and shuts off after 10 sec and can you say what is the problem there coz I checked with a new power supply box and the results is same...and im really scared of giving my xbox for service to my Indian technicians because they literally take every original parts there and replace it with duplicate
