Hi mate, just found your channel and it's an absolute blast. I take apart, repair and refurbish ps1s as a side hustle and love to watch your videos whilst fixing them haha
The reason you check with diode polarity backwards to ground isn't to avoid injecting current, it's because most ICs have reverse-biased diodes to ground as negative-voltage protection. So with forward polarity you won't get a diode reading because there's no diode in that direction to ground. There's also usually a protection diode from the supply rail to the I/O that you can check, but it's harder to know what the supply rail for each I/O is.
Found my way to you're channel through Steve at TronicsFix, you have great content and my Ps4 has a Hdmi Issue so going to try and fix it myself thanks to you and Steve keep up the great work

Be careful with that kingbo flux as it can cause a lot of health issues I had to give up reworking due to dermatitis on my eyelid. Also have a look at upgrading your achi with an elstein shts4 . I still have some old vids under bird 8888 xbox 360.
Yeah I've been a bit more aware of that lately. I just need to get into a routine of using the fume extractor. I have the Elstein plates for the top plate, I do need to get around to doing the bottom heater eventually. Worth every penny even if they are expensive lol

I find cleaning flux it's pain in the ass. Best solution to do it in my opinion it's to spraying cleaned areas with alcohol and rub with soft tooth brush than just wipe it off. Try. Works really good. All the best. Take care. Can't wait for new videos.
I use 409 cleaner and the kitchen sink. be sure to rinse completely to not leave cleaner residue. Be very sure to dry completely and quickly to avoid shorts or more corrosion. Also works good on nicotine residue from nasty smokers. Probably not the best way to do things if you are properly equipped to repair things, but I am only fixing personal stuff and I am a cheap bastard.
Hi Jason. I've got an XBox One S of a friend that won't turn on. I've checked the powersupply it has 12V. The 12V rail doesn't have a shortage and if I plug in my Controller directly via USB it is getting power. If i plug it into the Hdmi of my TV it doesn't get recognised by the TV. Do you have any idea what it could be?

I use Allendale flux remover bud. I actually sell it on my online store cheaper than what Allendale sell it themselves (once you include shipping costs). I split bottles into 1l bottles and it works out around £3 cheaper for 1l of concentrated fluid 😉

When you ultrasonic clean do you use distilled water or iPa. I used to use 99.99%ipa but there is a fire risk associated with ipa in an ultrasonic cleaner

That usually happens when the electrolyte caps is flat as a pancake causing a fault start and shut off

You would need to run jumper wires to restore the traces mate. I have a few trace repair videos on the channel which you could use for an example
