Good video! Starting with the Elmer Fudd moment at the beginning was great; glad you didn't edit it out. Appreciate the product tie-ins as well--for newcomers, it's helpful to see what's available.
I pulled the roof sunshades from my '23, which I also pulled from my '22, and they are a perfect fit to the new '24 Model 3 Performance that I have now.
When I've leased new cars before, I always did a $0 down term. As you pointed out, your down payment ("capital cost reduction" is the more correct term for a lease) will lower your lease payment and lower the total cost of the lease over the full term...but...only if you keep the vehicle over the full term. If you are unlucky enough to total the vehicle partially through the lease, insurance will pay off the lease, but you will not recover the down payment.
I realize that I am very fortunate. I bought my Y in December 2020. We bought it fully paid upfront from trading in my other car, some savings I had for my next car, and also sold some Tesla stock. I’ll keep my Y for as long as possible. I just took it in for service today, the first time in 2 years. Only cost me $245 for a new cabin air filter and some other minor stuff. They said my car looks fine and didn’t need any extra maintenance on it. I have solar panels on my house so charging costs are very minimal and we get a rebate for extra electricity generated. Our insurance bill is $300/month which includes the Tesla, my husband’s new car, and homeowners insurance all bundled together. Can’t complain about that.
Awesome video and transparency on your vehicles. Insurance in GA (and with two teenage boys in the house) is brutal. My Model Y LR was over $3800/year, and my wife’s Model 3 SR is $3200/year. We all have clean driving records and good student discounts for the boys. I do have higher levels of coverage than you because of my work and umbrella coverage requirements, but it’s getting crazy to insure cars nowadays.
I also own three EVs: a Tesla M3, Tesla MY, and Ford F150 Lightning, purchased new. I believe in putting 50% down, financing the other 50%- never upside down this way, no “gap insurance” required. I have the freedom to sell any car at any time, payoff its loan, and have cash left over. Sure, 50% down is a lot of $$, but I’d say if you can’t do that, don’t buy it, or you may find yourself in difficult straits when you want to replace the vehicle.
Hey Gjeebs I remember watching your content back when you had the focus ST. I had a 2016 ST and stumbled on your channel looking for some info about exhaust or something. I see youve transitioned to the EVs and that great as they are definitely the future of the automotive industry. Too broke to get a new EV right now but I have a used Nissan leaf and I love it. I'm a convert for sure (bye bye gas stations.) I just wanted to give you a shout out and glad you're still making interesting content.
Dawgggg you the real goat man. Always a pleasure watching your videos on here. How are you not living in Hollywood and have content on Netflix is beyond me.
Bro. Side note. Auto insurance is based on how many miles you drive on a vehicle. If one car is driven 500 miles a month and one is driven 5000 a month, there will be a night and day difference on your 6 month premium’s (never pay monthly). You need to lessen one of your cars mileage to the insurance company
I purchased a 2022 R1T used for 57.5k used and love it, happy I was able get a vehicle still under the original warranty which I still have 30k miles left on the warranty
Thanks for being transparent. My wife and I just received our model Y last month, we were going back and forth on a rivian r1s or model y. Model Y made sense because of the lower interest. Great video keep them coming.
I was told by a wise friend of a former liquor store owner, that when you lease, you have nothing at the end to show for your many many months of payments. You’re left with $0 in your pocket, no trade-in value, and no vehicle.
For normal people yes paying cars in cash, keeping it forever is the wisest move. For content creators, I do think they are better off leasing. They constantly have to refresh their fleets to get the interest going.
You need to increase your medical payout coverage by atleast double ($10,000). Average medical damage claims against insurers has skyrocketed and you will be required by state law to settle any outstanding balance directly from your personal assets, such as your savings, property, and or future earnings. Annual claims payed out by auto insurers averages $18,417, since 2019 at an annual increase of 3%-5% which includes medical and lost wages. For no-fault insurance programs, personal injury protection claims average $8,433 which covers the entirety of medical expenses regardless of who is at fault.
Nice to see some transparency, glad you're doing well man! Will you ever buy another ICE? I am an EV fan but a manual with a nice exhaust is too good. Miss your ST/M2 videos
Thanks for this video! My wife and I love your style of breaking all this information down. We just got our Tesla Model 3, anyone looking for a referral link let us know.
As an insurance broker I suggest getting your auto policy coverage for 1 year. It avoids the rate increases every 6 months. If you bundle with homeowners/renters insurance and have an umbrella policy your rates may be even better. Oh yeah - stop getting speeding tickets wouldn’t hurt😂
there's nothing wrong with financing a car, even $46,000. You can actually be ahead doing this if you manage it right. Write off the cars as expenses or if you aren't self employed you can instead defer income you'd use to pay down the loan into retirement accounts and save more money in taxes than you pay on the interest. I have 3 teslas and a house financed, I pay about $12,000 a year in interest but save over $35,000 a year in taxes. Every single year I am better off keeping those loans than trying to pay them off.
Liked the video 👍🏼… Thanks for being transparent with all the breakdown costs for your vehicles. Really enjoy your informative content and seeing your success in TH-cam! You deserve it! 🤙
I had an 23'modelX and a 22 model Y and the Y is like 20% more than the 90k model x... maybe people thay drive it are more careful since it's so expensive and the Y is cheaper and people drive it like it's cheaper...
Weird..... I only put $10,000 (including 7,500 rebate) and I'm only paying $740 /mo @ 3.99 % APR. But very nice! Also having the Model Y is redundant now that you also have the Rivian R1T
Love your stuff. Got a product idea for you that I've not seen available anywhere. Perhaps you know of something. I have a radar detector mounted above my screen, but there is no convenient power outlet for anything that is dash-mounted. Perhaps someone can come up with a replacement screen holder that incorporates some USB charging ports for the dash area. Right now I'm running an ugly power cord down to an accessory in the center console.
Jeebs: At around 9:27 or 9:28, in the video, is that a baloon flying from the top left screen to the right? Not sure if it is a balloon or another weird object.
I appreciate the straight shooter mentality. Keep it up. At first I thought you were annoying fk, now I find you hilarious. Your kinda like an ingrown hair…. It just grows on you 😅
I’ve got a new R1T coming next week. Was just quoted $300/month on insurance. What company are you with that gets you such a good rate? Obviously there’s tons of factors involved but I’d love to get a quote from your underwriter!

Think this guy is upfront and honest about everything? Think again! He failed to say that you get a brand new 2024 M3P in Quicksilver (or red like his) with the included FSD package practically free!! As of this writing, the official Tesla website's asking only $55,490.00, after subtracting $7,500 federal tax credit at point of sale, for said M3P; excluding destination/order fees.
I just bought a Fanttik car vacuum you peddled on your channel. It better work. Just kidding. But seriously, I will find you if it does not work. Just kidding. But seriously...😶

@@Gjeebs won’t that mean your insurance rates will go down because your a good driver since Tesla already records everything else you do in their cars inside and out. Isn’t Tesla insurance also cheaper in general
Whats the point of the Rivian? It's too small to be a useful truck and it's basically a dressed up mall crawler. You wan't to move something rent a trailer for the Y or just rent a 20 dollar uhual truck for that day. It's not like Gjeebs needs a small Ev truck, Just seems like a fashion item for people who want to lose all the money in their pockets.
Whew! $29xx a month against $7xxx (I'm ok at math ... really)! You making $4k a month. That's $48K a year. How many hours a month do you devote to TH-cam video production? Say 6hrs/day x 20days (weekends off) = 120hrs/mo div to $4k is ... hmm, not bad: $33.33 an hour. Better than flipping burgers for sure. Shorts and tees maybe $30 every 6 months at Costco, tennies one pair every 2 years. But! Those tee-time fees at say $500/mo club membership and $100 per 18 holes - ouch! Well, it still adds up to more fun than my retired old butt on SSA. Sigh.
That’s why most TH-camrs leases. They don’t have to come up with huge chunk of cash, these three EVs cost close to $200k. They just keep the content going, lease after lease for tax write benefits as well.
Insurance for the cheapest Model Y would cause my insurance rates to DOUBLE annually. And my registration would increase fivefold. And then there’s more frequent and expensive tire replacements, plus replacing the battery after ten years…
Actually, unless you have significant revenues elsewhere, you can’t technically afford those vehicles. Why do you feel the need to have nearly $3000 worth of car payments when your TH-cam channel is grossing about $7000 per month? Unless your combined net income exceeds $15K per month, you are being incredibly foolish. It would make much more sense for you and your wife to each have one car, keeping your combined monthly car and insurance payments at no more than 15-20% of your combined net monthly income, and invest as much as you can while you are still young letting that money grow considerably over the next 20 years. It’s fun having all sorts of toys, but with all of the money you are wasting you will be lucky to ever be able to retire. Good luck!!
