I am glad you mentioned the airpods 4. I got mine just 2 days back and I am stunned! Because the noise cancellation and the easy switch between devices is so mindblowing! When I put that on, the world is silent!!!
I think the thing about camera control is that it’s not a feature aimed at the general average user. It’s a feature aimed squarely at photo/video/film professionals or enthusiasts, so in that regard most users would find it dumb, but it’s anything but for the intended demographic.

I hardly use split screen on my samsung but now I have an iphone and I really need it, I would have been able to write while I am listening to an instrumental on TH-cam (not on premium and not in US). Now I have to convert the video to mp3 and play with a media player before I can write on a beat. One of the reasons why I am considering to switch back to Samsung when s25 series comes out

And oh man, I do miss split screen (and a volume mixer!) back when I used to have a Samsung too, I feel the same as you on those fringe occasions I happen to find a use for it. Phones at the end of the day are tools that are meant to fulfil as many of our needs as it can, and none of them can possibly fulfil every want and need, so we just live with what we have and make do and workaround them when we have to.
We all were there, and now we all are here with this amazing burger of a nothing phone. it's only selling point in the camera button and the placement of it SUCKS.
I dunno, man, I think people just got used to phones being amazing. It’s not a big upgrade at all this time around, but if you told me in the iPhone 4 days that I’d be running re7, 8, call of duty, assasssins creed, etc., all on my phone with higher resolution than almost any handheld gaming console, on a screen that borders tablet sized, I wouldn’t have even believed you.
Yeah, I remember in the old days with my 1st gen iPhone that had 128mb RAM, 4GB Storage, and a 2 Megapixel camera. Truly things have in fact not changed. The problem with people saying there's "no changes" is that there objectively is changes. They just tend to get more noticeable if you skip a handful of generations. Personally my upgrade cycle is 5-6 years so I notice an absolute ton of changes when I upgrade. My next planned upgrade is 2-3 years from now and I'm sure I'll notice a big difference then.

I‘m coming from the regular iPhone 11 and need an upgrade. A great battery life and camera are the most important things for me. But I’m on a budget. What would you recommend? Buying the 16 or 16 pro?

Welcome to the pro video world, that’s how it works in the field. Whatever higher end camera you buy, 4K 120 is crazy heavy. I would just get 256 go and invest in a thunderbolt 4 cable + Samsung 1to ssd to record that kind of footage( else stay with 60 fps ).

A lot faster and more enrgy efficiant chip so better battery life, camera imporvements(now recording in 4k 120fps,etc), new button, and apple intelligence,etc Its not a lot but phones are so great now that what do you want them to add? The pausing video feature was long overdue. My parents had Samsung phones where they could record and pause the video and I was hoping the iPhone would get that because I don't like having multiple short videos on my phone that can run up the storage and isn't organized.

You made a 21 minute video, which feels like a lot of things has been added in 16 series, but in reality all the actual new things should take around 5 minutes
What I don’t think people realize is how far we’ve come in smartphones. The reason why yearly upgrades were such an improvement 10 years ago was because phones kinda sucked back then. The tech was new, and phone manufacturers didn’t know how to make these phones efficient and reliable. Now the design has been perfected and we’ve kinda hit the “peak” of smartphone technology. All that’s being improved is the 16s are camera, chip, and battery upgrades because that’s all that NEEDS to be improved. People also complain that the design of the 16 LOOKS the same as previous phones. But let me ask you this, If the design of the previous gen works, why would they change it? If it an’t broke, don’t fix it. At this point, it’s just become the norm to release new phones every year, that’s just what they’re gunna do, and we should be proud of how far we’ve come in this industry instead of bashing new phones for improving little over the previous gen.

Phones at the end of the day are tools that are meant to fulfil as many of our needs as it can, and none of them can possibly fulfil every want and need, so we just live with what we have and make do and workaround them when we have to.

It’s not a big upgrade at all this time around, but if you told me in the iPhone 4 days that I’d be running re7, 8, call of duty, assasssins creed, etc., all on my phone with higher resolution than almost any handheld gaming console, on a screen that borders tablet sized, I wouldn’t have even believed you.
Yeah, I remember in the old days with my 1st gen iPhone that had 128mb RAM, 4GB Storage, and a 2 Megapixel camera. Truly things have in fact not changed.
The problem with people saying there's "no changes" is that there objectively is changes. They just tend to get more noticeable if you skip a handful of generations. Personally my upgrade cycle is 5-6 years so I notice an absolute ton of changes when I upgrade. My next planned upgrade is 2-3 years from now and I'm sure I'll notice a big difference then.

Welcome to the pro video world, that’s how it works in the field. Whatever higher end camera you buy, 4K 120 is crazy heavy. I would just get 256 go and invest in a thunderbolt 4 cable + Samsung 1to ssd to record that kind of footage( else stay with 60 fps ).

A lot faster and more enrgy efficiant chip so better battery life, camera imporvements(now recording in 4k 120fps,etc), new button, and apple intelligence,etc Its not a lot but phones are so great now that what do you want them to add? So phones arent made to be upgraded every year anymore since there are only mostly minor changes.

The pausing video feature was long overdue. My parents had Samsung phones where they could record and pause the video and I was hoping the iPhone would get that because I don't like having multiple short videos on my phone that can run up the storage and isn't organized.

What I don’t think people realize is how far we’ve come in smartphones. The reason why yearly upgrades were such an improvement 10 years ago was because phones kinda sucked back then. The tech was new, and phone manufacturers didn’t know how to make these phones efficient and reliable. Now the design has been perfected and we’ve kinda hit the “peak” of smartphone technology. All that’s being improved is the 16s are camera, chip, and battery upgrades because that’s all that NEEDS to be improved. People also complain that the design of the 16 LOOKS the same as previous phones. But let me ask you this, If the design of the previous gen works, why would they change it? If it an’t broke, don’t fix it. At this point, it’s just become the norm to release new phones every year, that’s just what they’re gunna do, and we should be proud of how far we’ve come in this industry instead of bashing new phones for improving little over the previous gen.

They never leaved it. I have friends that can’t tel differences between 30 fps and 60 fps gaming, basically 90% of people I know see no differences between 60hz and 120 fps. The real world is this one not the nerdy one. If you mind this then you might be the target demographic of the pro model. Tho, you’re prob not because pro models are mainly aim at photographers and video makers.
